Top Rank Issues Statement On Mayweather/Pacquiao

To bleed, or not to bleed — is that really the question? “More like Team Mayweather doth protest too much, methinks,” said Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank, the promoter of seven-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. In response to the release sent out Tuesday by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions which stated that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao was “in jeopardy,” Arum had the following to say:
“Let’s be very clear on the real issues we differ on. It’s not about being tested. Manny is onboard with that since it’s such a major concern of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. It’s about who does the testing and the scheduling of the procedures. Manny will submit to as many random urine tests requested. Regarding the blood tests, he will subject himself to three tests; one given in January during the week the fight is formally announced, one thirty days from the fight, no later than February 13, and the final one immediately following the fight, in Manny’s locker room.. The major issue related to the testing rests with which independent agency will administer these tests. The United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) cannot do it because they will not amend its procedures to accommodate the blood testing schedule we have outlined. USADA, under its guidelines, would have the right to administer random blood tests as many times as they want up to weigh-in day and that is ludicrous.
“Our suggestion is to utilize any of the independent agencies that work with the National Football League, the National Basketball Association or Major League Baseball, since they administer drug testing for their professional athletes.”
New York-based athletic physician, Dr. Keith Pyne, a private injury consultant for NFL athletes and those who participate in running and combat sports, told AOL Fanhouse, “I have more than 800 guys who are special athletes who are all drug-tested. And the urine testing is sufficient that you won’t miss anything, especially with performance-enhancing drugs. So, yes, I believe that the urine testing is more than sufficient for boxing. If you’re using steroids, it’s going to come up for sure in urine. There’s no way it’s going to get through the liver and the kidney without being detected.”

“If Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions are sincere in creating “a level playing field,” as they stated in their release, our recommendations should put their minds at ease,” said Arum. “If not, one has to wonder if their motives are more about leveling the fight.”

Pacquiao should be very careful about this ludicrous tests because somebody might put something on his needles and could poison and weaken him before the fight.
Floyd had fought the best there is but he never asked for them to take this test could it be cause he is too scared to fight.. other fighters might have been doing dope but it never scared him before… pacquiao is so much smaller and yet he worries so much… Floyed might not be scared but the people that trains and promotes him are.

What Mayweather’s camp is doing greatly diminishes not only Pacquiao but also all active boxers and the Nevada Commission itself. Mayweather’s camp is insinuating unbelief in the Nevada Commission’s ability to perform effective drug tests. If that is so then it has lost it’s purpose which should lead to probably scraping it out completely and form an absolutely reliable drug testing agency. This also means the boxers especially the champions then and now could be tainted. So De la Hoya, Malignaggi, Cintron, Mayweather, and others could be guilty parties as well. Of course the undefeated Mayweather, by insisting on additional drug tests is showing to the world he was steroid free in all his unblemished 40-win record. How can I believe that now when the Nevada Commission is questionable. The Nevada Commission should realize that Mayweather’s camp is unwittingly as it may undermining it’s purpose. All boxers around the world should recognize that what Mayweather’s camp is doing as regards this issue is a smack on their own faces. You are all posibbly juiced up too not just Pacquiao. Boxers say something if you well. Nevada Commission officials, can you just stand by as the circus goes on? Why did you not question Mayweather’s distrust? Do you not see that your “unreliability” as purported by the Floyd’s camp is the reason why the fight of the century may never push through?
For Mayweather he’ll do all his best to avoid this fight to protect his perfect record. If this fight will not go through it will hunt his record forever. To not fight the best P4P fighter in your division and with all the advantage that you have with Pacman and to walk away from it with that much $$$ involve. It will hunt you… But i think with his EGO he’ll fight.

Pacman won’t take a drug test for 30 DAYS before the fight?!? 30 DAYS!!! He could use steroids for over a week, which would make him a lot stronger and improve his endurance on fight day but still be out of his system. If he said no testing the day of the fight i could understand that, but turning down a $30- $40 million dollar payday because of a superstition is a more than a little hard to believe. 30 DAYS!!!

Good article. This is what is wrong with all sports today. No honor. Every person who has ever had to submit to any form of upper level drug testing knows that you cant mask a masking agent. If you have an elevated creatinin level in you urine(the waste products created when you are metabolizing protein to create muscle)it raises a flag. Either way, you will get caught. The problem is people, who is qualified to monitor the samples? With this much money on the line and the absurd egos involved, how can anyone trust any results? If Mayweather was willing to take an unfair advantage into the ring against Marquez, why not one outside of the ring? Do you understand that there aren’t any professional athletes that are willing to take as many urine tests as the Pacquiao camp is willing to undergo, because as everyone in the medical field knows, the body must expel any and all substances that are ingested. You cant mask any substances if a urinalysis is administered every 48 hours, because the masking agent will give a positive test. The big problem is what can be ingested that wont look like a masking agent in the urine? This testing with the blood is garbage, its unwarranted, and plain hitting below the belt fighting and as a very popular half black individual said(Malcolm X) “by any means necessary”, but is this means really that necessary?
I think the reason that Mayweather Jr. return to boxing is to reclaim his OLD title for the best P4P. (with his trash talk of course)

Last time manny lost is when he took the blood test before the morales fight and i bet you guys mayweather knows that. Its just one of his tactics before the fight. The real fight start in the ring but mental fight starts months before the fight . How do you think manny would train if he feels like that tese. people can take blood away from him any day of the fight. Its just to keep him in distration so he wont train a 100 percent
The blood testing immediately after the fight should be enough to erase Mayweather’s fears that Pacquiao “may be using performance-enhancing drugs”. If, right after the fight, Manny wins and such drugs are found in his blood, he can be reaped off the title (and the money) and will be regarded as shameful. Hell, Manny can even be disowned by the Filipinos as the country’s hero. I, for one, will be the first among the millions of Filipino fans to disown him.
However, i think, Mayweather is really just looking for a way out of the fight. He’s really afraid of our man (Pacquiao). This stupid blood testing is not a big issue, but the Mayweather camp is making a big fuss about it because they know this is their chance to save their face, especially Mayweather jr., and get out of the fight. Man, that’s simply cowardice, not a mind game.

Let’s also test the whole HBO team and also all of the advisers of these two fighters. Pacquiao should demand these suggestions. Besides blood and urine samples, use the hair sample too. Oops excuse me, Mayweather doesn’t have any hair. I forgot, he has other hair in his body. After the fight and Manny is found clean, I suggest that he hire the best lawyer in town. Let the lawyer decide on what to charge the Mayweather. A multimillion dollar suit will be enough to compensate that Manny, Freddie and Bob Arum are getting right now. I think its better if mayweather and pacquiao should be tested for steroids. Pacquiao is not afraid of blood tests only n the right people who will do the procedure.
