The Golden Age of British Boxing? You Better Believe it

haye343By Eamon McDonald: After reading a certain writer’s article on this site, I have decided to counter with an article that is not biased and petty. I’m going to do the evaluations in the same order:

Amir Khan – First of all, this guy is immensely talented. No-one can argue that. He destroyed a B-list opponent in the 1st round and looked great doing it. It’s probably even kind calling Salita a B-list opponent but none the less the speed and power Khan used was terrific and he is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming months and years. He will seek a rematch with Prescott eventually i am sure! And even if he didn’t, how would that affect anything? Styles make fights as we know and Prescott could well be Khan’s kryptonite. So Maidana loses to Kotelnik but it’s ok for him to fight Khan before he avenges that defeat? Khan will beat Prescott in my opinion and i think Maidana would go through Kotelnik for a shortcut in a rematch. I don’t care what biased writers have said, Prescott is not in the same class as Timothy Bradley, Victor Ortiz or Marcos Maidana. To sum up, Khan will have a terrific boxing career with probably a few loses along the way but this guy definitely is capable of beating anyone on his day. He just keeps getting better. As The Ring Magazine says’ He’s the real deal’.

Carl Froch – A warrior. Without a doubt an absolute warrior, i look forward to his future fights with talented boxers. This guy makes fights so exciting, even though he doesn’t possess any raw talent like Andre Ward or S.C’s boyfriend Andre Dirrell. Froch scored an impressive victory over Jermain Taylor in a great fight and what more needs to be said about the Pascal fight? One of the best slugfests you could hope to see! Froch beat Andre Direll via a controversial split decision although it would’ve been a controversial win for Dirrell had he been awarded the fight as no fighter clearly won and it won’t do anything to affect either fighter’s career. Froch will get beat eventually, i’ve no doubt about that as his chin won’t save him forever! However, he will always make fights interesting and that’s what everyone wants to see! Froch vs Kessler will be one to watch! I personally can’t wait for that one. I’ll end this one by saying, how funny would it be if Andre Ward lost to Froch, (not that he will) but the article a certain writer would put up on this website would be the funniest thing ever.

David Haye – This guy is some character and he does have alot of talent and is in supreme condition unlike nearly every other heavyweight in the division. Don’t be surprised if he sweeps up all the titles, Vitali will be a year older when they do meet and he is so injury prone and looking slower these days. Wladimir has a questionable chin, as does Haye, and either fighter could win this one. That will be such an interesting fight. On the other hand Haye probably will get beat by both because these guys are great fighters, they could last in any great heavyweight era. To sum up, Haye’s a breath of fresh air and he could well become the undisputed champion of the heavyweight division.

Thanks for reading.

  • NWJ says:

  • Ash says:

Also Scott Gillman what ever he’s called can suck my balls

  • Ash says:

Josh the Scots don’t run Britain, the English do, considering we conquered Ireland, Scotland & Wales. The only thing Scotland contributes to Great Britain now days is soldiers. Everything else comes from England, except sheep, they come from Wales, naturally.

  • Watch Out says:

You guys need sort it out when I fight I represent britian when I smash peoples faces in, in another country I do it for Britain.

  • josh says:

wales is a joke, us scots rule britain just like jim watt ruled the world.

  • matt w says:

truth is we english r hated by all, wish i was welsh, scottish or irish. i agree with u wales rule that calzaghe is the greatest british boxer of all time and cleverly the next best boxer 2 come out of britain. im so jealous of u welsh, our greatest boxer was bruno. and ur sheep r better looking than our women.

  • josh says:

  • Matt W says:

the future is defo bright!! England Baby!!

  • motownhitman says:

This guy sure does like to contradict himself…in one sentence he talks about Haye beating the K. brothers but then goes on to say he will probably lose to both of them. Go figure!!

  • gULFOIRD says:

Great counter article, SCOTTY GUILFOID you just got OWNED

  • stephen a says:

    splendid article there eamonn

  • adamfillingham says:

Of and i forgot one of the best Rendall Munroe

  • adamfillingham says:

amir khan if not handled with care will lose his title quickly, do not over hype him due to his win over a mandetory no.1.

Froch will most likely get into the semis of the super six but much further i doubt.

David Haye could beat anyone in the divsion in my honest opinion other than the klitchkos. Watch out for him when they retire.

The main men to look out for are, Nathen Cleverly, Matthew Macklin, John Murray, Kevin Mitchell, Ryan Rhodes, Darren Barker, John O’donnell, and of course Herbie Hide.

Tyson Fury wont get higher than european honors.

  • Dringo says:

Very Very good article, it is looking good for british boxing.

  • Eamon McDonald says:

I’m not saying the 1990s wasn’t a golden age in British boxing, i am merely saying that this could well be the best 5-10 years of boxing Britain has seen. John Murray and Kevin Mitchell are also ones to watch but i didn’t put them in there because they are not on the map just yet.

  • Andrew Evans says:

I agree and also already mentione Nathan Cleverly is going places and will also lead to SG crying in his beer.

  • Rich says:

How could this be the Golden Age of British boxing when in the 1990s you had guys like Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Naseem Hamed and Lennox Lewis in business?

  • mickeymarley1 says:

Around 60% of visitors to the site are British, and about 50% of those probably just come on to reads Scotts artcles, penny dropping yet?

  • Anonymous says:

Dimitry Salita was a D-list opponent.

  • Anonymous says:

Amir Con is a fake. However, the rest are the real deal.

  • THE HITMAN says:

By any chance is this article aimed at Scot Gilfoid? the man who clearly knows nothing about boxing. Enjoyed reading this article, Looking forward to the new year to see what is in store…

  • dan says:

i think the 90′s when we had benn, eubank & collins (all of whom were avoided like the plague by the big us names) as well as lewis in the hw’s would be the true “golden age” of british boxing. you also had calzaghe & hatton coming through…& don’t forget prince naz.

haye is just herbie hide with a better publicist, khan is prince naz with an even worse chin & froch is steve collins without the skill.

  • james says:

I agree mate. Nice to see an article on here that dnt just put british boxing down

  • Hendrasz says:

Let the fist do the talking, only if they beat the best opponent in their division then they deserve it

  • ross says:

i agree bud as well as these three there are alot of good up and coming fighters in britain right now. And i just ignore all the articles by that guy now and if everyone does the same he will stop writing them.

  • tes says:

    Your talking rubbish, as usual.

If you follow Nostradamus, he’ll tell you:

The Klitschco’s will both get knocked out by Haye. They are both too old and slow to fight him. Looking to the future, Tyson Fury will be a champ in 2-3 years.

Herbie Hide will beat anyone in the cruiserweight division – they are all s**t scared of fighting him.

Nathan Cleverly will be champ at light heavy in 2011, by knocking out either Chad Dawson (if he passes the drugs test) or Tavoris Cloud, who is a bum.

Froch will win the super six, the go for a big payday against Hopkins, who will be far too old, and get knocked out a’la roy jones/danny green.

Darren Barker and Matthew Macklin will both be middleweight world champs in 2010.

At light middle, Ryan Rhodes deserves a shot, and will be champ in 2010. Along with Gavin Rees, John Murray, Kevin Mitchell etc etc etc

I reckon the UK could have ten world champs by 2011. More than the US anyway.
