Soto wants Marquez, but Juan Manuel wants Hatton

By Peter Wells: According to news from the Boxing scene.com, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has announced that Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez will return to the ring on May 1st, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There is no word of an opponent yet but both Marquez and Schaefer want Ricky Hatton. Unfortunately Ricky will have to make up his mind soon as Richard is tired of waiting for Hatton to announce whether or not he’ll be making a return.

So other opponents will be looked for if Ricky doesn’t make a decision soon, and last nights new Lightweight Humberto Soto is after Marquez’s WBO and WBA Lightweight titles, and if Marquez doesn’t come down and defend them soon he could have them stripped from him.

There is no clue to what weight division he’ll defend them at but if they can get Hatton then it will defiantly be at Light Welterweight. Now that Marquez has announced when he’ll be returning it shouldn’t be long before Ricky steps out and agrees to this super fight. Ricky would love one more crack at the big time and one more chance at the MGM, maybe it could be third time lucky.

This is very big news to the boxing world as Marquez is still one of the best fighters in the world and could prove that the Mayweather defeat wasn’t anything to do with him fading, and just like his two other Golden Boy team mates he just gets better with age. So we’ll have to wait and see for any comments from Ricky, most likely we’ll have to wait till after Christmas but in the mean time we have plenty more great fights to get us going early next year.

If the fight happens I think Hatton will ask Marquez to move up in weight. I dont think Fatton can make 140 in a healthy way. I dont think marquez wants to move to WW anymore. I think Marquez is only 5’6 or something so JW is the limit. Marquez dont need Hatton there is a bunch of JW champs that would love to fight marquez to build their name

Marquez would be a very difficult opponent for Hatton, owing to Juan’s solid boxing skills. Juan is an excellent counterpuncher, who also possesses very good defensive skills. His straight right hand punch would be very effective against Ricky, who likes to rush in without using a good jab to protect himself.

Ricky is most effective against slow, offensive-minded fighters, whose defensive skills are poor. He will always have problems with quick defensive boxers like Mayweather and Marquez. In fact, I think that without Pacquiao’s extraordinary quickness, Ricky would have a better chance of beating him than he has of beating Marquez.

it can go either way for hatton vs. marquez. hatton drinks a lot of beer while JMM drinks his own pee (he shares it with Manuel Perez too).

I’m one of Ricky’s biggest fans…which is why i never want to see him box again. He’s had a great carer, nothing left to prove. If he can not compete at the top level anymore why should he go on?

Marquez is a fine boxer. Hatton is d.o.n.e. Hatton should not set foot in the ring again except as a promoter.
