Should Mayweather back down on the blood tests so that the fight with Pacquiao can be made?

By Chris Williams: Recently, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao put out a press release announcing that he plans on suing Floyd Mayweather Jr. , Floyd Sr. and Golden Boy Promotions for accusations pertaining to Manny using performance enhancing drugs. Before that announcement, the Mayweather’s had been trying without success to get Pacquao to take a random Olympic style drug test, which Pacquiao wanted no part of. The fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao has dissolved because of this one issue. However, if the Mayweather’s back off for their request for Pacquiao to take the blood tests, will Pacquiao forget about his lawsuit and then take the fight?
Pacquiao’s team has mentioned Paulie Malignaggi as a replacement for Mayweather for the March 13th fight. It’s hard to see that as a serious alternative to Mayweather, and it makes me think they’re just stringing this along until Mayweather finally drops his request for the Olympic style drug test. I doubt Pacquiao will change his mind about wanting to be testing by the drug testing agency, so Mayweather will have to be the one that takes the first step in backing down to get the fight made.
However, if Mayweather gives in about the blood tests, Pacquiao will also have to probably back down with his threat to sue the Mayweathers. I don’t know how a fight can go forward with the Mayweather’s being sued. That would create a lot of hostility and I can’t see the fight happening under those circumstances.

Here we go again with this ‘Drug test’ thing. The fight was to take place in the state of Nevada, and, all the fighters had to do, was follow the Nevada Boxing Commission rules on drug testing (which was actually what the Pac Man was going to do), but this was not good enough for Mayweather. He wanted additional tests that was NOT required by the Nevada Boxing Commission. Is Mayweather going to require Mosley to take additional drug tests before and after their fight?
What’s the difference anyway with having your blood test taken AFTER the fight? You’ll still see if the boxer used any performance-enhancing drug right? If they do find traces, by all means disqualify manny!

i think pacman should still sue floyd jr. floyd sr. and golden boy. that should teach them a lesson and should generate the same amount of money during out-of-court settlement.
since nevada sports commission clears manny for last 10 fights, this court battle would only mean floyd & golden boy against the whole sports commission.

The facts are though, that Manny must know ahead of time when the drug tests are to fight, and he’s totally ignored every boxer that wanted to fight him. I’m not making excuses for anyone, its Manny that has a different excuse everyday not to fight Floyd. juiced up or not Floyd will destroy him, he’s just brought to light Manny’s refusal to random testing. Every top fighter has claimed they think Manny is on the juice, even the fighter they are trying to get his next fight with Pauli M. Maybe Manny should just sue all the top boxers instead of fight them. I see Manny walking away from this fight and never fighting a top fighter again because they will all want adequate drug testing. Then he can go into politics in his third world country. Until the next coup anyway.
Hagler, look again. Unless numerous media outlets are lying he says on Dec. 27 “These are my specifications for this fight regarding blood testing. I have offered to give a blood sample the day of the announcement of the fight at the press [conference]. I have offered to give a blood sample 30 days before the fight. I am willing to give blood immediately after the fight is over inside my dressing room.” So as long as there is at least 30 days between testing and he knows ahead of time he will test. He is not open to random testing. He has never said he was. He has always stood by no random testing. Now whats your excuse for your dear superman??
Mayweather should just accept that he will be beaten by Pacquiao with or without any drugs…
Besides now that mayweather has agreed that the tests can be done by any agency (as long as it is random and is done as close to fight as to impede any opportunity to use PEDs to influence the outcome) it still appears that pacroid is relunctant to come to the table
@Hagler actually only PEOPLE WITH NOTHING TO HIDE WOULD AGREE TO RANDOM TESTS. Floyd has agreed to it plus it is the standard in most other sports like athletics and cycling (if you did more reading you would know this). If his opponent is cool with it so whats the problem with manny. Face it the man has something to hide and if you didnt have your head so far up his arse you would see it too

I thought the rules we’re and are only random multiple URINE testing. So I guess Mayweather wants to change how the boxing regulations works, wow! So he really thinks he is the best ever and ever. I haven’t read any news yet that Pacman issued a new statement refusing to take the tests. If you have read anything that says Pacman refused the tests, I am sure that it did not came from Pacman. He has passed all the tests given by NSAC & he came out clean. I don’t think he has to prove anything because the records already shows that he is clean. The burden of proof falls on Mayweather Sr.’s shoulders. After all, it was he who made such accusations in the first place. I believe that anyone who has the guts to make serious accusations, claims, and other pieces of information that could prove vital and add more validity to his argument must present evidences to support such claim.

Yet, he’s making plans to fight Pauli who has also said he thinks Manny is on steroids. I guess if you beat some washed up fighters you can take all the steroids you want. You earned it by beating opponents who didnt use the steroids you did. Bravo, Pacman, don’t fight Mayweather, you shouldn’t fight Pauli either, you should sue him. As a matter of fact all or GBP fighters are off limits to you , until you sue them, because they have all came out and said they think you are on steroids. Way to go, refuse any blood test. Remember you earned that right! And even if Mayweather caves and says no test for HGH and other PEDs you should still not fight him. How can you claim to be the #1 p4p fighter if you can’t win a single round against PBF?? Sue and ignore the top fighters and people in the Phillipines will still think you are superman. Rob the first excuse Manny gave was because he was afraid of needles. Yes, he’s since changed that since it was pointed out to him that he has tattooes, but that was the original excuse. And you make a good argument what Pacquiao should do, duck any boxer. He ducked JMM for a rubber match, he ducked Mosley, and if he wants to continue to win he should continue to only fight sluggers with no defense. roach has said that he advise manny not to have any blood taken from him 4 days before the fight as he says he as a trainer see that it weaken him and he cant allowed any of his fighter to fight less than 100%. this also will come out in court.

Floyd finally met his match. The Mayweathers and GBP underestimated the little Filipino. He is smarter than what they thought. This little guy is in control now and eventually he’s gonna get all his wishes and Floyd has no choice except to agree. if manny included in the contract, that both he and floyd should get a tattoo in their face or no fight. would floyd go along with it? NO! it is not necessary, the same as the blood test delima. the NSAC will provide the test in nevada as has always been for over 40+ yrs. what result of the test conducted by NSAC that would come out different by USADA from the same source of blood? not unless the USADA taints the sample.

Wow, I wish Barry Bonds would have gotten the same support that Manny has received. For the most part, everything in these prize fights are negotiable. Weight, glove size, ring size and yes drug testing are all fair game. If this is a condition that is important to Mayweather then he shouldn’t back down. I think we have to put this in perspective. Esentially, all Mayweather is asking is for safe guards to ensure that both fighters are clean. It’s not like he asked for a 10 million dollar penalty for every pound Manny comes in over 147. Given what we just experienced with baseball, I personally think that more testing should be done. I say press on Floyd.

Tommy, please read all news before you make a non sense comment. Pacman did not refuse to take the test. He just didn’t want his blood taken before or during the fight. He agrred to have his blood taken right AFTER the fight in his locker room. If he is taking any PEDs, it will surely show even if the blood sample was taken after the fight.

Pacquaio has done everything he can to make Mayweather not sign this fight and yet Mayweather has given up everything to get the oppurtunity to beat Pacman. 50/50 purse split, the weight to be fought at, the gloves to be used, a $10 million dollar penalty for every pound over weight, Pacman has used all these excuses to try and not fight Floyd. PBF has said alright you can have the money you want, we will fight at the weight you want, we will use the gloves you want, we will have an unprecented $10 million per pound penalty, hell you can even use your PEDs that you need so badly, just make this fight happen. I can’t believe all this nonsense. Everybody got reasons and it appears to me that Mayweather is making too much demands. Pacquiao has given his hand in all this and Mayweather is taking his whole arm. Pacquiao already agreed to the original 3 blood drug tests right? Why the need to demand more than that? That is what I don’t understand. I really want this fight to happen and I also want Pacquiao to take the drug test to just shut them up but you have to listen what Pacquiao’s camp has to say in all this. They have legitimate reasons and arguments why they don’t want to do all Mayweather’s demands and you have to respect them for that.

“James” yes it was already on the contract BUT it was not signed BECUASE Manny wanted a few changes to it AND one of them is the testing clause. Schaefer is backtracking, making look like Manny is at fault here. Schaefer and GBP WILL be libel for their actions. They are already backtracking with the UADA thing. I wonder what Nevada will do when a “Reputable” (LOL!) company like GBP is found libel in court. They may be stripped of promoting in Nevada. I’ll guarantee that you’ll see more new from GBP inthe next few days. Nevada is their bread and butter. Before Hatton got destroyed, they had control of Western Europe but that is gone. If they lose their license in NV, then they have to resort to other places.

Pacman has a case against GBP because according to Ronnie Nathanielz, a sports writer, he spoke with Shaefer in GBP office in LA. See yahoo news. Shaefer told him how pacman uses PED and a cheat. Of course we know about mayweather sr. he cannot dodge this one. PBF may be off the hook lucky for him if he gets away. But with insunuationsa and hints that he made, he may still be liable. I hope these guys get to pay millions for doing this injustice not just to pacman but to sports as a whole…

do you guys know how a court system works, pac has a little of a case maybee to floyd sr for comments made a long time ago but he has none against gold boy or floyd jr because they asked for blood testing..they didnt say we are doing it because hes on drugs they said we are both doing so we all can see we are clean..they never said hes dirt, and thats why arum statements have calm down and he even said this isnt floyds fought he hasnt done anything wrong they jsut want someone else to repersent him instead of the other promotor …n for the guy b4 said giving floyd a shot…is a favor to him they both are great cut it out…n catch weight wouldnt happen with floyd because he brings in hgue numbers so pac cant use the catch weight with him because hes a huge name to..n the 50-50 split was fair for both sides those 3 u stated wasnt a favor to floyd it wa fair to both sides

USADA really want to be a part of it. well put it this way u can schedule any bloodtest but not 5 days before the fight and 1 after the fight. That is fare, if they still say its not acceptable then we can always say that ALL the fight that happen that didnt use USADA is a fraud….

Tygert also added the schedule Arum is proposing won’t work, because a fighter would have the advantage of knowing when he’d be tested.
“That kind of window is totally unacceptable,” Tygart said. “It would provide a huge loophole for a cheater to step through and get away with cheating.”
