Roy Jones Jr. says he was hit on the back of the head by Green

By Sean McDaniel: In an article at Boxing Talk, Roy Jones Jr. (54-6, 40 KO’s) complained about the gauze that was used by IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green in his 1st round knockout victory over Jones on December 2nd. “I’d rather lose fair then win cheating,” Jones said about his loss to Green. In that fight, Green cornered Jones and dropped him with a looping right hand that hooked around to the side of Jones’ head.
“I’m a fighter, pound for pound, one of the best, but you can’t hit me in the back of the head with a baseball bat and think it won’t do something to me,” said the 41-year-old Jones. Besides the punch that landed on the side or back of Jones’ head, he was also upset about the gauze on Green’s hand wraps, saying “They allowed him [Green] to wrap his hands two hours earlier and they allow3ed him to use stuff they not supposed to use. The gauze that you use isn’t supposed to have no adhesive on it, you what I mean?”
It’s hard to imagine Green using anything but the normal gauze for his wrapping. Green just looked too strong for Jones and it might have been better than the fight only lasted one round rather than drag on longer and cause Jones to take even more punishment in the fight.
“They first try to get give me a pair of used gloves,” Jones said. “I said, ‘how am I going to fight in used gloves?’ “Then they gave me new gloves and by then we saw how they was wrapping his [Green] hands and were complaining because from what we’re used to this is illegal.”
As of now, there’s no talk of a rematch between Green and Jones, but it looks like they need to consider it. Jones was going to fight Bernard Hopkins next, but the sudden shocking loss to Green has put that bout up in the air. It looks like Green will now be fighting Hopkins next instead of Jones, which obviously is something that can’t be making Jones too happy.
Jones made a tactical mistake in the Green fight by retreating to the corner and covering up. Jones had been fighting that way in the past five years and it hadn’t served him too well in his fights with Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson. However, by making the mistake against an even bigger fighter like Green, it put Jones in a vulnerable position.

It is always a funny read watching americans speak their mind surely even you must look back and think what was i thinking. Firstly danny green did not stand a chance. Than he won. Than roy jones should retire cos he cant box as well any more, now green cheated. Get over yourselfs, roy jones jr is definitly not as good as he once was (we knew that going into the fight yet you all ‘knew’ he would win. You can all whing that the fight was stopped with Jones on his feat and recovered, but look back at the footage he never was there during the count and the fight should have been stopped than and there. The Ref gave Jones every chance and allowed the fight to continue (even though it should have been KO at the 10 count Roy still did not even know where he was. When the fight continued Jones still did not respond the ref seperated the boxers and he again went to the ropes and curled up in a little ball hoping the Ref had no choice but to stop the fight that he had aleady let go longer than it should have.
Bring on the Bernard and let the best boxer on the night win with no crying (i can gurrentee you wont get a bad sport if green lost, look at the first beyer fight which he domoniated and than was wrongly disqualified.
i think rj was ripped off u could clearly see that he was hit in the back of the head, look at the rj v calzaghkie fight he took one hell of a beating and got hit alot harder in that fight then the little love tap i think the fight was set up to boost australia boxin history really wat did roy have to lose he has done it all and to come over here make danny green look good and still walk away with 3 million. if there is a rematch rj will win hands down he just did aus boxin a favour thats it but if hopkins fight him i hope green cops a reel hidin might bring him back to reality…..

Roy Jones was ripped off downunder. Thats the only thunder there was. Bull. I was at the stadium and have watched the replays over and over. 1) Green delayed, which caused Jones to be cold and without sweat while Gree was nice and warm…hmmm dirty i think. 2) The punch was behind the ears. If you look search youtube there is a great video that shows every angle when the punch landed. 3) I’ve never seen a world title fight called off like that. Green got one knock down…then did not land much at all after that. Jones head movement showed nothing worry about. its when a fighters head really gets popped back is when you call a fight. 4) Roy did not complain or anything during the fight because the aussie corwd was so nationalistic that day at the stadium and there was an air of dislike towards the american, from when he came out. personally, i felt ashamed that day. and roy knoew the crowd would have erupted if he complained, so he showed good sportsmanship. i saw it on his face though. he was not happy and i couldn’t beleive what the f__ I just saw happen. ROY WAS RIPPED OFF.

come on guys it really fustrates me when you say roy jones jr should retire or his nothing. His still got it his quick and i think if there was a rematch jones would be more prepared. roy jones was cold and and was hardly raising a sweat even danny green said it thats why he went for it.roy jones has still got the speed i think he doesnt need to retire just wasnt his night. kind of disappointed with Australia because they wouldn’t let his crew come to australia and and just danny green crew trying to give him used gloves. but yeah rematch i think roy jones would take it for sure. Especially if it was at America. anthony mundine wants to rematch i would love to see that. Danny green said he had bigger fishes to fry which something is up. i think hopkins will give green a lesson. to be honest i think krazy kim could even beat danny green. anyways it was Australia lucky night. thanks for not letting roy jones crew coming to australia. couldnt even get himself ready for the fight. so people can you really shut up about this roy jones jr should hang the gloves up rap!! i bet you any money that would p@ss him off a lot. take care

Mundine outclassed Green. Roy Jones would knock the s*** out of Green in a re-match. He wouldn’t fall for his cap next time round. And Hopkins will make Green look like an amateur. Green lands one lucky punch and thinks he’s Ali. Watch Hopkins bring him back to earth big time.
Everyone should look at the actually quote Danny Green said. When asked did he use illegal wraps he said “No comment mate. I’m off to take care of Bernard Hopkins business” If someone asked you did you cheat and it wasn’t true, wouldn’t you say no?
i think RJ would win in a rematch. DG did hit him in back of the head and was tryin to hold RJ head in place and tryin to turn him around after RJ got up but ne waysz i think he should get a rematch by the time the ref stopped it RJ wasnt hurt ne more DG was jus throwin alot of punches that were missin and gettin blocked and he was gone end up tiring himself out. but RJ should face the winner of bhop vs DG

When asked if Green’s camp provided Jones used gloves, Green responded and said, “I must have hit Roy Jones harder than I thought, because Roy brought and wore his own gloves to the fight.” Then he was asked about the wrapping of hands and he just said no comment. I believe it’s possible that his gloves were loaded, but I also fault Jones for not taking the proper procedures to make sure things like that don’t happen. Also, before he got hit…he turned his head like the article said and he did nail him on the side of the head (slightly back). He should keep his left hand up!

Roy is a legend and 1 of the best boxers in the history of boxing but every boxer will start 2 lose there speed, power because of age i guess he made a mistake and should of retired when he was on top what ever happen he will be rememberd as a great boxer

Roy was always a fighter, he proved it many times. He felt like he got cheated then there must be something. He probably thought about all of it later and realised what happened.
I was there and fight was really really delayed, something was going on.
I’d rather believe Jones then Green who fought in his backyard.
