Povetkin stops Nolan

By Erik Schmidt: In a stay busy fight, heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin (18-0, 13 KO’s) defeated Leo Nolan (27-2, 10 KOs) by a 3rd round stoppage on the undercard of the WBO cruiserweight bout between champion Marco Huck and interim champion Ola Afolabi on Saturday night at Arena, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Povetkin, 30, outworked the limited Nolan pounding him with nonstop shots.

In the 3rd round, Povetkin dropped Nolan with series of hard shots to the head. Nolan got to his feet and was met with a several more hard shots before the bout was stopped at 2:33 by referee Josef Temml. Povetkin, the number #1 ranked International Boxing Federation contender, should get a title shot next year against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
