Pacquiao sues Mayweather: It looks as if the fight will never happen now

By Eric Thomas: Last night it was learned that World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao plans on suing Floyd Mayweather Jr., Floyd Sr. and Golden Boy Promotions for false accusations related to Pacquiao using performance enhancing drugs. Regardless of whether the suit is eventually thrown out or not or ends up sticking, this may be the final nail in the coffin for the proposed mega fight. It’s hard to imagine that the Mayweather and Pacquiao fight will take place now with a lawsuit weighing them down. If Pacquiao is dead certain on suing the Mayweathers, it’s highly unlikely the bout will be repairable.
In a press release from Pacquiao’s team, Manny says the following: “Now, I say to Floyd Mayweather Jr., don’t be a coward and face me in the ring, mano-a-mano and shut your big, pretty mouth, so we can show the world who is the true king of the ring.”
So on one half, Pacquiao is suing Mayweather and his father for defamation and on the other hand, Pacquiao still wants to fight Floyd. However, Pacquiao won’t agree to take the random Olympic style drug tests that Mayweather is asking for. That combination isn’t likely going to get Mayweather in the ring anytime soon unless I miss my guess.
This is all pretty silly if you ask me. With the huge amount of money that is on the line for the fight, Pacquiao, Mayweather and their promoters need to find an alternative to the drug testing so that the bout can be made. I wouldn’t advise Pacquiao to press the legal case if he’s serious about wanting to fight Mayweather because the two don’t go together.
If that’s really want Pacquiao wants to do, then so be go ahead. However, he may just be killing any chance of a fight Mayweather in doing so. This isn’t just money. This is about both fighters’ legacies. Pacquiao can continue to fight, but if there’s few fighters that can compare to Mayweather, that will hurt Pacquiao’s legacy by not fighting him.

Rick Hatton is encouraging anyone interested in making a killing to “empty the bank” and put it on him beating Manny Pacquiao next weekend when they fight for his IBO light-welterweight title in Las Vegas. The Hyde fighter, as every boxer must before stepping under the fight lights, continues to dismiss his opponent – highlighting Pacquiao’s three defeats and arguing that the pound-for-pound champion’s reputation has benefited from hype rather than measured analysis.
“Pacquiao has been stopped a couple of times by body shots and has been knocked out and I don’t think there’s anything you can do to improve your ribs or chin,” said Hatton, who is equally unimpressed by the four-weight world champion’s last bout.
“You can’t count the De La Hoya fight, Oscar was weight-drained – he left it all on the scales when he fought Manny,” he argued of Pacquiao’s eight-round massacre of the Golden Boy before Christmas.
That bout was at welterweight, in which the 147lb division Hatton suffered his one loss, finding Floyd Mayweather Jnr impossible to handle two years ago. Yet despite Pacquiao finding his outing against De La Hoya at the weight easy before now dropping down towards his more natural size, Hatton is unconcerned. “I don’t think he’s fought an idiot like me before who is 100 miles per hour, strong, fast and a real handful. I will be the biggest and strongest guy he has faced and with how I’m boxing more sensibly now I really think it’s going to be enough.”
Pacquiao is a 1-2 cert, according to the bookies. Is that fair? “I would expect Manny to be the favorite but I’m surprised his trainer Freddie Roach thinks I will get knocked out in three rounds. I’ve read some of the stuff and it’s like it’s not me Manny should be fighting but Godzilla. Suddenly, he’s turned into some power merchant who will knock me out in three rounds after beating De La Hoya. But I’ve beaten bigger guys than Manny has. I’m not discarding what Manny has but forgive me if I don’t share others’ enthusiasm.
“Re-mortgage the house and empty the bank and put it all on me. I’m not getting ahead of myself. It’s just the build of my opponent,” he said of Pacquiao, who is an inch shorter than Hatton, “and how I feel. That’s what I’m going on. Every day of the week I can beat this guy.”
Possibly of concern, though, is Hatton’s take on his previous fight. “I feel even better than I was last time which was the best I’ve been since I beat Kosta Tszyu [in 2005 to win the IBF light-welterweight belt]. This is the best shape I’ve been in my career. Before my last fight [in November] against Paulie Malignaggi people were saying I was showing signs of wear and tear and my stamina was showing going into the home straight. But I put all those doubts to rest.”
Hatton says that a full training camp immersed with Floyd Mayweather has him primed. “I’m so, so confident it’s unreal. People are getting carried away with Pacquiao’s speed, but don’t forget I’m a bit of a whippet myself. It has all gone really smoothly for this fight and this is the sharpest I’ve been.”
If he wins Hatton says he will not entertain Amir Khan, who challenges for his own world title at the weight in June. ”

You said that in a defamation case, the defendant does not have to prove his statements are true. It is precisely because it is the “malice” in saying such statements that is being tried in a defamation case. Clearly, the Mayweather camp is malicious in issuing such statements. Their insistence on their ridiculous demands shows malice. Manny is willing to undergo drug testing, he made that clear to everybody. He is even willing to undergo unlimited urines tests. The issue here is blood testing. Manny is superstitious and does not want his blood to be taken 30 days immediately preceding the fight, but is willing to do it immediately after the fight.
Thus, your analysis that: “(1) agree to the USADA tests, (2) pass them, and (3) Mayweather’s camp would then STILL need to accuse him of doping. If this were to occur, then Manny would likely win a defamation suit” is out of this world. There are many other credible agencies who can conduct such tests, not only USADA. Manny has always passed every drug test conducted on him. And your No. 3 point is irrelevant in the case. It is not the subsequent accusations that is necessary in the trial but the previous malicious accusations that defamed the image of Manny Pacquiao.

He has a family who knows how to invest for their future compare to Mayweather jr, where all his money went to gambling and Tax department. Accusations without proof is despicable. I am a huge fan of both fighters. I think Floyd and his camp are totally wrong in this issue and should back down. We know that won’t happen because PBF is all about the show and he can’t back down. The Pacquiao camp just needs to do what they are doing and follow the legal and boxing rules to a tee. You can’t argue with someone who plays by the rules. I think people are very ill informed to think that the drug has to be your system close to fight time for you have any performance gain.
I am not saying Manny is a cheater. I’m just stating how people use drugs to cheat.
You use EPO or blood doping during training camp to boost your recovery time therefore you can train harder and boost your endurance. You stop using the drugs 2 weeks before the fight, your system has no drugs in it however, you still have the endurance from using the drugs. Testing the day of the fight does absolutely nothing unless the fighters like to use amphetamines and are total morons because they know they’ll be tested.

Manny needs to make Floyd put his money where his mouth is. If the Mayweather camp is convinced that Manny cheats they should have no issue with agreeing to do this. The contract should be written that Manny will do a monthly blood test and a blood test 5 days prior to the fight (Mayweather has to do it also). If Manny comes out negative all the time, Mayweather MUST forfeit his purse to Manny win-lose-draw. Also, if Mayweather suffers any injury that has to delay the fight, he has to forfeit his share. If Mayweather doesn’t agree to this, it is obvious that he is just trying to run. The reason for the injury clause is Floyd will make sure the bout doesn’t happen as planned just to keep Manny having to take the blood tests. It appears that is the type of camp Mayweather runs.

Mayweather wants the USADA to conduct a blood test just on Manny alone during the fight one each in every round.
And he demanded to the USADA to draw at least 1 liter of blood per test.

A fighter should only do the required testing. What seems to be happening is that Floyd is running because he knows, the whole boxing public knows, that Manny does not like needles. I don’t think I can support Manny on this. This is a simple testing and I wiould rout for the USADA from now on to do all such tests. Why is the Pacman asking for specific time of the testing. I’m a healthcare worker and I surely know that some HGH last for just 6-8 hours. What does the Pacman loose if he does the test by the best standards? the whole world except the philipines are calling for the pacman to subject to the USADA testing. If Pacman doesn’t care about his reputation, family and his country, what about us, who had so much confidence in him.
