Pacquiao and Performing Enhancing Drugs:The “Birther Movement” of Boxing

by Jason Alcairo: It has recently been reported on boxingscene.com that 7-Division world champion Manny Pacquiao is holding up the proposed March 13th mega-fight between him and Floyd Mayweather,Jr. Top Rank president Todd DuBoef informed Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer that Pacquiao refuses to have his blood drawn as part of Olympic grade testing. Naturally, this will only fan the flames of the PED witch hunt initiated by Floyd Mayweather, Sr.

Mayweather Jr had this to offer: “I understand Pacquiao not liking having his blood taken, because quite frankly, I don’t know anyone who does.” He continued,”but in a fight of this magnitude, I think it is our responsibility to subject ourselves to sportsmanship of the highest level.”

The article further states that Manny’s unwillingness to be tested applies to within 30 days of the event, stemming from a personal superstition he has of being tested that close to a fight. Furthermore, it says that he is willing to be tested before the press conference and after the fight. I personally don’t see that to be a problem. After the fight is when he would be caught without a doubt should anything be present in his blood.

The basic problem is the mentality many people have in that if he has nothing to hide, he should allow the testing. But he isn’t holding up the testing, he just doesn’t want to be tested within a certain time. That isn’t an unreasonable stipulation. Hence, I have likened this entire situation to the fringe “Birther Movement” United States President Obama refused to really address earlier this year. Both the accusations lack any real merit. But enough people have been mentioning it while ignoring the assurances of authorities that would be in the know. Neither of them are addressing the accusations because of the total lack of solid evidence. No,”I know something is up with that guy”, doesn’t count.

Examining Pacquiao’s weight through the years,he would rehydrate to higher and higher weights on fight nights during his time coming up from the Super Featherweight division. That gradual increase in rehydrating weights are a clear indication that Pacquiao has merely been cramming his speed and power into smaller weight classes until he could no longer do so and remain an efficient fighter. Now that he is closer to his walking weight, he can begin training at higher intensities. Coupled with his rice and fish heavy diet, it is no longer a mystery to how he can train himself so hard to perform so well during fights.

Alas, these new developments will only spur on the naysayers who will use their selective reading abilities to accuse Pacquiao of ducking Mayweather, or stalling to prevent himself from being caught. This is unfortunate, as all this positioning from both the Mayweather and Pacquiao camps will further delay the fight that the entire boxing world is looking forward to. This author’s hope is that it Pacquiao will be allowed to test before the conference and after the fight.

Realistically? Expect more articles to keep the “Juicer Movement” alive and kicking. Especially should Mayweather lose.

only testing after the fight or before and after the fight is not enough most steroids take take months to leave youre system but with certain steroids they can leave youre system in as little as a week the issue isnt weather hes used drugs immediatly before the fight but if he is using them to condition himself wich i think impartial people will agree he has moved quite a few weight classes at no dissadvantage i dont know if he is on steroids or not but i think the only way to keep this thing fair is to have olympic regulation testing if there is nothing to hide then he will have nothing to worry about or if he is doping he will have to end his cycle well before the fight if he doesnt want to get caugt ensuring a fairer fight…

    javier,

pac does not decline any blood testing! it’s only the schedule (random testing) that he declined. read… read…read!

  • Agamemnon says:

Too many fools in the sting. My 6 cents worth:

    1. Remember that Paquiao is willing to have his blood tested (whether he liked it or not) scheduled before and after the fight, while Mayweather wanted the blood test to be randomly scheduled. That is the issue and not Manny completely refusing the blood tests. Anyone who wants to protect Floyd will naturally create a publicity stunt by making Manny appear not to agree to take the test.

    2. That Mayweather demanded another group to do the blood-testing should have been done in his previous fights. What about his recent fight with Marquez, who despite being beaten up by a bigger man, managed to stay in the ring until the end (I’m not accusing Marquez). Given the double-standard, Floyd Jr. is impliedly accusing Paquiao of taking drugs.

    3. It would be wise for Manny to sue the Mayweathers to restore his reputation, partly tarnished. Basically, any athlete can be accused of taking drugs. Someone might as well accuse your favorite all-American athletes like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, Brett Farve, Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, and the like.

    4. The “accusers” of Manny are threading in dangerous waters, regardless whether the Filipino boxer is taking drugs or not. It is likely that this hullabloo is nothing more than a publicity stunt – Satyr’s revenge: if Floyd goes down so does Manny.

    5. Regardless of what has transpired, Floyd Jr. and Sr. have succeeded in tarnishing the sport of boxing – all in the name of pride and the so-called “American Way.”

  • graham says:

No manny, they are not insisting that the test be done days before the fight. what they want is a random blood test, that means anytime. Those are two different things.

  • manny says:

Blood test can be taken after the fight why insist days before the fight? have common sense! it is a TRICK! He is just afraid that’s it! Mayweather should never be again be regarded as a good boxer but just a coward and a FRAUD!

  • ZKO says:

This is nothing more than “stirring up the pot” so boxing fans (and casual fans) can be engaged and make this fight the hightest money making PPV fight.

  • citrus says:

hey floy err fraud, is the pac that good that you make up these delusional demands? did watching those pac highlights made you pee on your pants? you’re a coward as history will judge you for that. 41-0 won’t matter unless you have hoigh regard for julio cesar chavez, jr.,

  • graham says:

Hmm, what’s your point? Both fighters will give blood and will be subjected to the same tests. There is no advantage for anyone.

  • Hmm says:

Have you guys ever given blood during training? I don’t see why it such a big deal he cant give it after the fight…

  • graham says:

When i heard mayweather snr. talking about steroid testing in boxing, i said to myself “shut up old man you are getting senile”. But then this comes out.
So manny pacquiao has never submitted to a blood test? and random blood testing is not done in boxing? This is shocking! so the old man was right all along.
I have always thought boxing was rubbish. with all the doggy scoring, and match making – including contentious title shots. Considering the amount of money involved in this sport one would have thought drug testing was as serious as in Athletics or even Cycling.

  • john says:

Pac is a fair fighter and should take the required test. He is behaving as though he wants to abuse illegal substances for training to build up his strenght and power before the fight. If he does not accept the conditions then his career would be put in doubt. Pac has nothing to loose as Mayweather is expected to win.

  • WeastCoast says:

HELLO BOXING FANS! fLOYD DOESN’T WANT TO FIGHT THE PACMAN. BY ASKING REDICULOUS REQUEST!! BY THE WAY, WHY THIS OLYMPIC STYLE TESTING? WHAT HAPPENED WHEN fLOYD FOUGHT MARQUEZ,DELA HOYA OR HATTON? PACMAN ALREADY AGREED TO TESTING, A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE AND RIGHT AFTER THE FIGHT DAY. NOT THE 30 DAYS OR MORE PRIOR TO THE FIGHT WHILE HE TRAINES. FLOYD CHERRY PICKS AGAIN, NOT A SURPRISE!

  • mike says:

    anon!!

you said some of the comment on here are retarded yet you post…. uz, wana, u, dnt, y!! the list goes on!!

dude, if thats not retarded then i dont know what is!

  • Hindsight 20/10 says:

Plus, Manny himself hasn’t said anything about taking a blood test. We should hear from Pacquiao himself.

  • Hindsight 20/10 says:

mayweather – “…This type of testing is common in sports these days so i can’t understand what the problem is and please stop making excuses…” – can you tell me when in professional boxing history did they ever do a Olympic Style Drug Testing to any fighter? To Ali, Foreman, Leonard,Duran…? Please, someone tell me when did a professional boxer ever take a Olympic Style random drug testing?

  • josh says:

this fight is just one big joke, im not even half as excited as i was a couple of months ago. these lot are business men not honorable boxers

  • Stewie says:

    Manny doesn’t fancy this fight……

  • anon says:

some of the comments are retarted..obviously mayweather wants a blood test before and after the fight.if it was only after the fight and pac wins hel still get credit for the win becos hes fighting 1 of the most disliked boxers.jus like shane mosley agaisnt oscar dlh, people still say he won that 2nd fight despite the fact that its proven that shane was on steroids.
whats the point testing only after a fight or before he starts training?u need to do it in the middle of training or when they dnt expect it.
and to all u idiots out there,if mayweather jus wants weaken pacman then y is he taking the same test?hel need to give blood aswell.
stop looking for a way out already,u wer so quick to defend pac and his weight demands and say people dnt wana give him credit for his wins…now look at uz.
boxing has alot of problems and 1 is the ignorant and bias fans who contradict themselves

  • anun says:

dont be fooled by this antics manny… remember what happened during pakmanvsmorales1? blood samples guys? da mayweathers see this as an advantage and capitalize this by running and running and circle inside the ring. MAAYO TA MA DAGMA CGE DAGAN….

  • Cubano says:

Nevada rules should apply. Otherwise, take your fight to the 2012 London Olympics.

  • Juan dela Cruz says:

This blood testing issue sucks. Not only does mayweather cherry picks his opponents, he even makes sure that the guy is blood drained to his advantage. Isn’t it enough already that Manny is the smaller guy and coming out from a 12 round fight just 3 months prior to the fight. Why should a smaller guy be made to exert more effort than the bigger guy.

It’s very clear that the mayweather camp is just either finding a clever way to back out from the fight or setting the stage for an excuse for an impending defeat due to this PED non-sense.

    Nice ploy floyd!

  • Unknown says:

Pacquiao is scared of needles? That is what Arum said and yet he has many tatoos .Mayweather, is willing to take the test, and if Manny doesn’t have anything to hide, he is only going to be raising suspicion by not agreeing.

  • Unknown says:

Pac is scared of needles? That is what Arum said and yet he has many tatoos .Mayweather, is willing to take the test, and if Manny doesn’t have anything to hide, he is only going to be raising suspicion by not agreeing.

  • Moneyweather says:

C’mon Floyd take his blood right after the fight test it if it turns out positive put in the contract that you are the winner and all money goes to you..fair?!? Seconds after the fight take his blood and test it…but don’t use this issue just to escape, we are now thinking that you are afraid of him. A true warrior fights…the hell about disadvantages..a warrior fights period!!!!

  • jesmedhytz says:

my advice to team pacquiao. . forget PBF because he does not want to fight pacman, that is why the steroids and drug-testing issue cropped-up for excusses, team PBF is trying to outsmart master Roach, you don’t need mayweather anyway, let him challenge you with your terms and not pbf terms. Manny, don’t allow yourself to be dictated by pbf as you are the undisputed P4P fighter.WHY NOT sHANE OR yURI,for sure its more interesting.

  • nice says:

the only up coming opponent of pacquiao who had many reasons is Floyd M. this coward bigger fighter covered with many reasons is not impressive attitude. now i agree of Mosley of what he said that Floyd pick-up fighter that easy in winning. Floyd u just like your father very talkative, its means you are scared to fight in Manny Pacman.

  • BoxOut says:

It is very obvious that the Pacman is very religious and supertistious. You guys can see it in every fight that he fought. He prays like 3 or 4 times before and after the fight. Don’t qoute me on this, but for Christians/Catholics,there’s this belief that if you get your blood taken out from you, it weakens you,not just physically but also mentally/spiritually. Blood equals life/strenght,specially to a person who is very superstitious. Perhaps Pacquio believes this will greatly affects he’s concentrations and training towards the mega fight. By the way, he did agreed on the Olympic style testing, but only 1 day before the match and after. Not randomly tested for 30 days prior to the fight, while he traines. I hope they can fixed this, since every boxing fans in the world wants to see this fight go through. However, cultures/religions and other beliefs can greatly jeopardize a negotiations just about anything, very unfortunate but must be respected!!

  • An Honest Pacman Fan says:

One Last Time Mayweather Fans… I’ll break this down in the simplest of terms… the Pacquiao camp wants 2 days before the fight of no test.. Thats all.. Test before that and after the fight, they are alright with it.. read up on Roach’s interview with 8count… Now tell me as you all think you’re all so smart… WHY IS THIS NOT ACCEPTABLE????

  • bobby says:

All of you Mayweather fans, you are all idiot!!! Did you not think why now that Mayweather wanted to make change in testing a boxer before the the fight,How many fighters he fought already?..more than 40 and he win…why only now? after so many years fighting in boxing….Did u not all think that he just wanted to escape from the fight becaues he’s afraid to lose….He’s just a beeping chicken who just like to talk….Did other legendary boxers like Ali,Sugar Ray Leonard ever change the testing the boxer before the fight?..NO…Just say Floyd that you dont wanna fight Pacquiao because you dont wanna lose.

  • Jay-z says:

Blood test before and after the fight would be enough. But 30 days prior to fight would be ridiculous, how can you concentrate n your training if evryday youre going to the clinic and have some blood test. Let say 10mls of blood per tests for 30 days, a total of 300mls for 30 days and it will take 28-30 days for your body to replenish it. They will dehydrate this fighter before the fight.

  • Bernd Stablus says:

    I really dont understand this.
You got the two best pound for pound fighters in the world, and you give both of them 50 million + for one fight and they dont want to fight because of a drug test taken before the fight instead of after the fight?
This sounds very creepy to me, I dont believe this.
If this is true, its a shame for the sport, both guys would be a shame for the sport.
Where are the heroes like frazier, foreman or ali, that would go to hell in a fight for some peanuts compared to the pays of today.

  • ricky says:

bloodtest can be tainted, golden boy promotions will conspire to ruin pacquaio by sabotaging the bloodtest. remember gbp wanted this fight at de la hoya turf, the staple center.

  • Amos says:

Not lost trust on nsac. Its just that there are some drugs that dont appear on nsac tests. Ask Mosely the Dopeman

  • Amos says:

Its so sick some pple here sound so stupid. If tested before and Pacman is found guilty then Maweather decides if he still goes on with the fight (and purse split differently, new terms). If done after, there’s so much money on the line and there will be so much litigation if Pacman found guilty.
I think this testing will help the sport of boxing.
I understand about the difference in cultures, and personal superstitions. Manny should fight only Filipinos in that case if he cannot put all that stuff aside. There are some pastors and aspiring Ribbi’s boxing….it’s a violent sport.

  • leghorn says:

floyd has fought many times in vegas, why suddenly lost trust of the NSAC.

  • James says:

When Floyd fights Marquez and win, did he ask Marquez camp to do the same thing? If not, why now?

  • Shiz says:

Some of you sound stupid the press confrence is jan 6 so what if he passes the fight isn’t until Mar 13. Then after the fight could be to late even if they find something and you get pounded by someone that doped up on something will that make you feel better about the beating? Ask Alexs Arguello if he had the chance to test Arron Pryor after the fight and they found something would the beating the took(that to me ended his career) have felt any better. This isn’t basketball or track roids can kill in boxing it can give you super human strenth and stamina and also help you to take a punch(ask Sugar Shane Mosley!). People like toe-to-toe boxing some like the sweet science I my self love boxing period so what ever way it goes down i’m cool. Put on a pair of gloves and take a hard punch to the head and tell me if you would want to stand and take it for 12 rounds if you don’t have to.

  • Peter Wells says:

If Pacman has nothing to hide, he should take the tests. What is the point in refusing them, it just makes people suspicious. If he is taking drugs it will be one of the biggest cons in recent years in boxing and will bring boxing in the spotlight for the wrong reason.

  • PacroidHGH says:

Also for the dumb pactards, when California added random tests 65 fighters were caught that wouldnt have been caught with nevada testing. Why not silence all your critics unless you are hiding something?

  • surfing says:

why fear the one dimensional boxer who is willing to take the bloodtest after the fight. i am now convince floyd is looking for the exit. one problem solve and floyd would make another one just he can hit the backdoor. and golden boy promotions is CORRUPT.

    the verdict, lilfloyd is afraid!

  • PacroidHGH says:

WOW how dumb pactards really are? THe nevada system is a horrible testing system. Shane Mosley was never caught and he later was implicated with the balco scandal. Pac afraid of needles? LOL, than why get so many tattoos?

Imbecils here dont understand why random tests are done, pac is cycling off drus and dosent want to be caught with a random test. so he wants before the press conference and a day after, so he can cycle off. Also blood tests can find more ban substances than Urine as HGH.

THey got 8 ounce gloves and $10 million penalty if Floyd dosent make weight, so why reject a test that both fighters will take? Why reject $40 million unless you are hiding something, F OFF to pactards.

  • James says:

Tanong ko lang po. Sino po ba ang responsable sa paggawa ng batas sa boxing ang boxer po ba?

  • ALON DY says:

fLOYD jR. is really afraid, he doesn’t not want the fight to happen! what is the difference of getting blood sample after the fight? It will stay on the blood if it has! I just see one reason now, he wants to talk and talk and telling everyone “he is the best?” I absolutely disagreed! the best fights for the best, no excuses! no more demands that are out-of-this- world! He is making more excuses as he knows that he will experience a lifetime beating from the powerful punches of PACMAN! C’mon, mayweather fight for the best fighter ever lived, MANNY PACQUIAO!

  • boxing greats says:

    from ALG united……

Ok you tell me, what’s the diffrence between a blood test a day before the fight and a blood test a day after the fight for a drug test? Roach clearly said that they are willing to subject manny to the blood test right after the fight because doing it a day before will only weaken manny, and manny, a brawler/puncher, needs that 100% strength for his power punches to be effective. And you will say, wtf they are both subjecting themselves to the same test so what’s the problem?! But the difference is, floyd is a deffensive fighter, he don’t need raw power to win his fights, he’s happy with a decision win.. And i said this before, floyd is a cheating ard. He did it with marquez, luring juan to come up 2divisions making marquez slow and fat while he weighed in at his comfortable weight of 146lbs. Now he’s doing it again with manny.

  • Mzee says:

phew!! floyd finally off the hook, now you can go permanently retire with your 100% record.

we will always contemplate on what could have been one of boxing’s greatest fights, too bad we will never get to see it.

he can’t fight mosley, can’t fight pacquiao, then whats the point of calling yourself a boxer, just go floyd.

  • Pacquiao said he would take a blood test after the fight.! So I dont understand what the problem is.?

  • Mzee says:

daryl savage, please get your english right bro and then you’ll make more sense. or just use your native language and we’ll get an intepreter for you.

  • curious_one says:

I hope Arum can arrange the winner of Berto-Mosley to fight manny instead for unification bout of Welterweight. I that fight will prove to be more worthy of $80 million potential income.

Forget Mayweather. Nobody’s looking for him during his 2 years off except the IRS.

  • curious_one says:

Arum is now virtually looking for another opponent. He said he agreed on blood test on press launch and after the fight but not during training. Same scenario in Olympics boxers. But Mayweather insists 48 hours before the fight. Thus, Top Rank perceive it as they Mayweather camp never really wanted the fight.

  • Mzee says:

this is all about respect, respect for the other fighter and the bodies that govern boxing. floyd must learn to do that. he must accept that there are bodies like commissions who make the rules, so reliably the do catchout cheaters. he must just prepare for the fight and let the boxing governing bodies do the rest.

  • Mzee says:

floyd mayweather is not invincible and he knows it too. before accept any fight every boxer fancies and calculates his chances of winning or losing. if your statisticians gives you a 70/30 chances of winning then you go ahead and take the fight. but when the probability is 50/50 then you start acting like floyd. yes floyd is undefeated but against manny, he knows there’s a great chance of kissing that record goodbye.

  • T-Dub says:

Damn I thought we had the fight, naw, Pac wants 10 mill for every pound over 147 but he can’t give any blood. We hope things get right so we can see this fight.

  • mally j says:

i dont understand this crab take the drug test before or after it dosent matter just get the fight on the rode.I think both sides are nerves and r lookin for any edge man if the do fight it better b great.

  • Mzee says:

just so we’re all on the same page, its not manny who doesn’t want the blood tests before the fight, it is freddie roach (same difference i guess) and he gives his reasons on 8countnews.com.

  • Robert says:

@Javier, Mayweather is obviously afraid of Pacquiao. If He really wants the fight then he should not demand this kind of test. If He thinks there’s a drug that could enchane their perfomance, then let Him(Mayweather take it!). This is a desperate, cowardly move.

pac man pls go get tested bro!!!ya won’t do’t alone man

  • Mzee says:

mayweathers’ just a bunch of bloopers. against marquez floyd paid $600 000 to get the weight advantage. it was very clear in the ring that it was 144lbs (jmm) vs 146lbs (floyd). and all you floyd fans conveniently forgot about that advantage and you talk of his win over jmm as though it was a fair fight, it was not. with both fighter at 144lbs, i believe jmm would have given a better account of himself. if you know anything about drawing blood, it makes weak, the same way as having sex before the fight. for some boxers it takes 3 to 4 days to recover from the effects. now floyd wants to fight a weaker pacquiao, just like he fought a lighter jmm, what a cow!!!

  • Roy Andrews says:

Mayweather maybe trying to have an excuse should he lose to a much smaller man, or he maybe trying to rattle Manny before the fight. In all fairness both should be tested after the fight, and Mayweather should be forced to made the weight (unlike the Marquez fight) and not merely fined, if he cannot make the weight the fight should be cancelled. The promoter should have another fight in place to take the place of this fight if it is cancelled.

  • lukie says:

let me break it down for you PBF fans and connect the dots for you since most of you cannot seem to comprehend what you’re reading in the article. read the article five times and even read it some more until you comprehend it. what the article is saying is that pac has no problem with the drug test. he is willing to have his blood drawn before the press conference and immediately after the fight. steroid and other performance enhancing drugs stay in your bloodstream for approximately 30 days. what this is saying is he has nothing to hide! pac refuses to be sucked in pbf’s games and excuses. no way is he hiding or refusing his blood drawn for the test but he does not want any further disruptions from his training.

so let me make the connection and connect this for you pbf fans since you just don’t seem to get it: pac will not play games and will take the blood test before the press conference and after the fight. if he has any performance enhancing drugs in his system, it certainly will be detected within this timeframe. do you really want your blood drawn three times in the week before the fight? it is very disruptive for training, and it only shows the team mayweather will stop at nothing and employ dirty tactics.

enough excuses! no more! you don’t proclaim yourself as the greatest. this is bestowed upon you by the masses. i highly think this fight is gonna happen in march 13. team mayweather just have zero class, and from the looks of many of the readers here, many are home schooled and fail to see the simple connection that team mayweather is simply stalling and is simply scared. grow some balls and some class. no more n excuses. team mayweather sure is upholding their reputation as being difficult to negotiate with… i’d be making tons of excuses too if i were fighting pac across the ring.

  • lol jokes says:

    what if floyd tests positive?

  • curious_one says:

Yahoo! News. Fight is virtually off as annoyed Arum hint on looking for another fighter.

Quoting Arum “Because Manny is not going to be subjected to blood testing while he’s in training and they (Mayweather camp) are going to insist on it because they never really wanted to do the fight.” He adds, “We’re willing to do all kinds of urine analysis. We’re willing to do blood testing before the press conference (scheduled early January) and after the fight. We’re not willing to do blood testing while he’s in training..”

But the blood testing clause now derailed the talks, a move that Team Pacquiao considers Mayweather’s psy-war tactics and possible way out of the much-anticipated fight.

  • Big A says:

Manny is tainted if he doesn’t get a blood test? Are you kidding me? How many boxers have taken a blood tests? Hell, you can accuse them all of doping and they’re all tainted. Seriously, the stupidity is astounding.

  • ares says:

@ elloco, your right on the money here, i just cant beleive people still blaming floyd for this, just downright stupid. there is zero excuse for not taking the olympic style testing, afraid of needles. give me a break, if he was so squemish he wouldnt have gotten any tattoos. And they dont wantt bucket loads of blood just a tablespoon which would regenerate within 36 hours..(same for Floyd) Get pacmans nut out ur mouths.

  • boxing fan says:

To all you pachaters out there saying pacman doesnt want to get tested: The PacMan did not refuse to take the test, He said he will subject to it on press-con and after the fight. Now, which one did you miss? He did not REFUSED to take the test. He will take the test. If im the PacMan, I will not take the fight, sue the Mayweathers to prove He’s on steroids..and when the Mayweathers are broke, cause they cant support their accusations, then Money will surely need some $$$$ and the fight progress. How’s that? Again, the PacMan DID NOT REFUSE to take the test.

  • An honest Pacman Fan says:

    @unbias:

If Mayweather wins the fight, I won’t be making any excuses. If Pacman wins the fight and passes the test after the fight, who will make excuses? Will they seriously use the drug doping excuse? Then it’s their problem. But I just don’t understand what the difference is with having the test after the fight?

  • BS_ says:

Mayweather himself and his camp are annoyingly whining about imposing a olympic style drug testing.

Pacquiao has no problem complying all the tests except for drawing blood close to the fight reportedly because of his typical Asian’s superstitions belief.

We don’t hear yet any response from Pac himself.

Anyway, Mayweather has find every little way to duck the fight.

It’s less than a teaspoon of blood, they do it all the time in Olympic competition. This has no effect on the athlete. After an hour the body replenishes the lost teaspoon of blood.

The tests are random and will be conducted by the United States Doping Association. They set the quantity of test for both fighters, date and time.

  • peplz says:

Pacquiao may really only be afraid of needles, but for a man who fights so fearlessly it doesn’t look good for that to be the reason why he won’t take tests. He really is in a no win situation here. The rumblings have begun. As many people that are ready to vouch for Pacquioa clean record, there will just as many raised eyebrows. This isn’t going to just go away with this fight negotiation especially after this turn of events.

Grrrr I can’t post the link for this article… So if you want go to 8countnews website and readup on the article “Roach BLASTS Mayweathers – “Mayweather is a coward!”" If you guys think you know better then there’s no point talking to you.

  • unbias says:

@honest pac fan I don’t know a lot about roids but if they had a agreement then just do it and when he win it will be on the end of the story point blan

  • scoobydoo says:

roids will show up in the ure-test, talking about scared paranoid more like it. even csi miami ks can discover that in the sample. i will not be surprise if floyd go ahead and fight mat hatton. with what he makes fighting pacman, he can easily make fighting three lesser fights.
floyd do not want to ruin his career he is the one who has alot to loose. whats with floyd sr. back then calling pacman a mule, now he does not want his son to fight a mule? even oscar stated pac does not hithard. so why scared of pacman’s power? just admit it lilfloyd you want to duck a mule.

  • curious_one says:

why let big mouth floyd bully pacquiao team. after this blood extract what’s next? sp extract?

it’s not about the tests. it’s about not giving in to bullying. look at what happened to Marquez? he was bullied from contract to weigh-in to fight night.

  • An honest Pacman Fan says:

    @elloco and unbias:

That’s why I said read all available articles, not just this one. Arum asked them if they can guarantee that money does not have to be tested 2 days before and they said no. For us normal people, a small amount of blood might not matter. But think about it, our blood is what carries oxygen to our body, when athletes train the way Pacquiao trains, he will need every single drop to be able to train the way he does. Aswer this, what’s the difference with getting tested after the fight? Is is just going to magically disappear after someone’s hand gets raised up for the win?

  • unbias says:

@stan manny want may to pay 10 million per pound over the limit so you saying manny can have it his way your point don’t make no sense @janeaki money may be afraid of manny but he can’t say he want this and that term but don’t want to follow the rules on what they agree to

  • peplz says:

The funniest thing I’ve heard all day is that “Pacquiao agreed to do the Olympic style random testing but only before the press conference and after the fight. IF YOU HAVE SCHEDULED DATES FOR TESTING THEN THEY AREN’T RANDOM. I hope that it didn’t really take me telling some of you guys this for you to see the huge oxymoron. And, I love how Bob Arum is involved with these negotiations but all the alleged foul play gets blamed on Mayweather. Bob Arum is the shadiest promoter in all of boxing. If Don King was involved at all I bet people would be jumping all over him for every little thing. And whats with these statements from Bob Arum. “Who is this ignorant kid without a high school diploma. Who does he think he is.” Basically he is saying “who does this little boy think he is trying to set the terms for this fight. I am the promoter and I am a white man and Pacquiao is an asian man so you ni are the lowest thing here and you shouldn’t have anything to say. Even though you are the one risking your life in the ring.” If he didn’t sound like a man who believed in his own entitlement, he sounded like an old slave master. Arum, Roach, and Alex Ariza (whom I don’t understand why anyone is supposed to care what he has to say) have behaved more unprofessionally with all of their disgustingly nasty verbal attacks than anyone in the whole negotiation. And Floyd is supposed to be the bad guy. Go figure.

  • elloco says:

Olympics testing involve multiple random tests at any time deemed reasonable by the testing authorities. They set the random dates and time not Floyd. It’s the same for both fighters.

This needle phobia is a lame excuse. If the phobia is greater than $30 millions than Pacman should move on and fight Yuri Foreman.

  • unbias says:

I read all the comments and the only 1 making sense is pacmanfan if you can take a punch you can take a needle if manny lose a lot of people going to be hurt if money lose a lot of people going to be hurt but since a lot of people think manny can’t lose they feel like he can’t get tested bs

  • An honest Pacman Fan says:

    Amen STAN.

  • juneaki says:

I do believe that mayweather just want this fight not to happen. Manny already agreed to be tested 30 days before and immediately after the fight and think that’s reasonable enough and he has given his reason. But maycheater err mayweather wants another thing. Should Manny agrees on the test as Mayweather suggested, will he stop now demanding BS requirements and sigh the contract? Who will stop Mayweather on demanding anymore BS requisites?

  • An honest Pacman Fan says:

People I suggest you read all articles available. Pacquiao is no saying no to the test, they don’t want it 2 days befored the fight (48 hours). And he’s even agreed to be tested straight after the fight. Now if there is anyone out here who is so sure of their accusation against Pacman, tell me what drugs can they not find after the fight that they can find within that 48 hours?

  • Needle phobia says:

Hey think about this before jumping into conclusion. Pacquiao is brave but he is afraid of one thing — the needle! But, THAT is the reason why he’s not taking steroids! He’s afraid of needles!!! With that in mind, Pacquiao IS willing to take the blood test, it’s just a matter of schedule: not 30 days before the fight AND soon after the fight. That is just fair, correct? Considering he will need to overcome his fear twice!!! Whereas, Floyd is making a really big deal out of this so he WON’T have to face his fear which is Pacquiao!!!

  • pacmanfan says:

Big a so why he shouldn’t get tested??

  • Big A says:

Do you re-tards have reading comprehension issues? Anyone who says “Pac should get tested if he has nothing to hide” should go back to grade school and learn to effing read the article. But I guess it doesn’t fit your agenda.

  • Fighter Fan says:

Mayweather is just setting up an alibi in case he will be the loser on March 13th. He can say, “I was beaten because Pacquaio was on some performance-enhancement drugs.” Fighters like Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, are real boxers. Real men, who don’t give excuses for a match, heroes of their homeland. Alas, Mayweather couldn’t match with Hatton,Cotto and Pacquaio’s support from their country. Sorry, Mayweather nobody likes a cheat, a complainer and a big-mouth guy who has a lot of excuses!!

  • pacmanfan says:

Kid d I can co sign on that and I’m a pac fan everybody making excuses for manny if mayweather agree to pac terms then pac should agree to mayweather terms neither one have a advantage so get manny d!ck out y’all mouth in let it be a clean fight

  • sporty says:

if i’m brave and i’m not ducking i would fight anybody with or without steroids.

i know someone with college nemesis who’s taking steroids. they had a brawl. he gave his 1-2-3 combination. the guy on steroids ended up sleeping on the floor :)

if i were pacquiao, i’ll go fight mosley for unification bout. forget mayweather. boxing was alright w/o him for a couple of years.

  • pbf says:

manny you need to tak the tests. Its not like your the only one doing it. seems like hes hiding something.

  • kid d says:

Dam floyd gotta mess it up by asking for an outrageous demand like a drug test. He should have ask for something reasonable like having the fight at middleweight. Get pacman nuts out yall mouth people.

  • pacmanfan says:

I’m a pac man fan but if he don’t take the test then I lost respect for him can’t blame mayweather on this too much money at stake sorry but manny need to man up get label a pu$$y

  • blanche_boy says:

bob arum and roach are both right after all! so hard to negotiate with the mayweathers! another excuse to cover-up mayweather’s ducking of elite fighters. they are saying in the spirit of fairness and yet look at what happened to marquez fight! another thing, mayweather dont want to fight for pacman’s title? why? it’s because he plans to come into the fight above the 147 limit. ridiculous and very unacceptable!

  • o.j. says:

yeah floyd just want to save his face, he has no choice but to fight pac. the world demanded it, first it was the march 13 date he wanted, which was i think too soon, but pac accepted it. then 50/50, gloves, venues, etc. pac agreed to the blood test but not a bucket of blood? its transparent floyd do not want this fight.

stop running, hiding, and leading us floyd, we are already tired of you. we just want to see you fight a legit fighter, not your cherry pickn records.

  • Trey says:

You guys has to be kidding me right? All of you who just thought Mayweather was going to be the one causing the problems. PAC-MAN is hiding something, thats the only reason he do not want to do the drug testing. Everybody know there are drugs out there that a simple urine test don’t detect. I’ve lost all respect for PAC-MAN on this one. He’s a bum. And I clearly understand why Mayweather did not want to do business with PAC-MANs promoter. Garbage A@@ dude.

  • ready4fight says:

Ismellfear u don’t make any sense this whole site is bias but I’m not going to bash one fighter because I want to see them lose if floyd come overweight make him pay that huge fine if manny on roids then call the fight off its that simple

  • ready4fight says:

I really want to see this fight if they both agree to the terms then it shouldn’t bbe no problem I’m a fan of both fighters and I don’t care who win or lose as long it’s a good fight but the pac fans sound like some pu$$ies if he clean then take the test real talk there is no way pac can spin this

  • alex says:

I have been waiting for this match up for a long time but now i agree with Art.( Pac doesn’t need Mayweather). This will never end, even when pac wins, they will not own up to the loss. Let Mosley have him and when Mosley beats him, we will never have to hear about Mayweather again.

  • lol jokes says:

what a joke – bring back buck

  • Edge says:

Whats the big deal…take the test and fight! Its no game just want a clean fight from both sides. Mayweather will be tested too!

  • monty says:

@Clark Kent: Don’t give me that cp about Pacman being religious. What is he, the next Saint? According to the Philippines press, he is cheating on his wife. Isn’t he doing something outside of his faith?

  • Mayweather says:

Nonsense! if he has nothing to hide he should take the tests. There is a reason for them being random so the athlete does not know when a test will take place. This type of testing is common in sports these days so i can’t understand what the problem is and please stop making excuses. If pacman is not a lousy cheat then he should take the test, period. You say the tests should be after the fight, if he is using the stimulants to build up muscle and power he could stop using them long enough for them to be flushed out of the blood stream while still retaining the effects at fight night which is why they are insisting on the tests being in the periods before the press conference and then after the fight and not in between.

  • nelson says:

Mayweather wants to get out the ferocious spirit from Pac before he fights Pac by spilling Pac’s blood to weaken him.

  • nelson says:

Nice tactic by Mayweather. He wants to get ample blood from Pac before the fight to weaken Pac.

  • Fred_T says:

Pacquiao agrees to be tested before the conference and after the Fight. There is nothing wrong with that. US Olympic committee requires less than 150 days prior to the Games.

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

THIS IS B.S PACMAN SHOULDNT TAKE THE STUPID TEST, WHEN IS THE LAST TIME ANYONE TOOK THIS TEST? MAYWEATHER IS A COWARD , A BIG P**SY, SCARED, PAC DOES NOT NEED MAYWEATHER AND SHOULD NOT FIGHT THAT IDIOT!

  • Clark Kent says:

Pacman is a religious guy and as such he has some convictions based on his faith. Would you want to be forced to do something outside of your faith?

  • Javier says:

Give the fans the fight they want Pacquiao! If your clean get tested.
