Mayweather vs Pacquiao: It’s On!

By Frank Car: Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum had a smile on his face after his meeting with Manny Pacquio in Manila. Wonder why? Of course not, you already know. The meeting took place on Friday morning in the Philippines and what would be Thursday night in the U.S. largely concerning Pacquiao’s stance on the Mayweather vs Pacquiao bout and guess what.
“You guys can interpret that any way you want,” said Arum, speaking in vague terms because he and the Mayweather camp have agreed to be silent on details “until we’re ready to make an announcement.”
“My goal is that we can make a preliminary announcement sometime next week,” said Arum.
Arum will be leaving Manila on Sunday and said “Now my job is to go back to the United States, sit with Richard Schaefer (Who has been negotiating with Arum on behalf of Mayweather) and the Mayweather people, so that we can make an announcement in a short term.”
March 13th is the date. The where is still unknown and is said to be the last thing to be finalized, however you can bet on Vegas, no pun intended.
You most likely can expect the offical date announcement to be next week, and the location to be announced on the January 11th press conference meeting in New York. In the upcoming weeks representatives from both Top Rank and Golden Boy will be checking out the other possible venues, the stadium’s in Texas/Louisiana, and then they will probably be making their decision. “Vegas .. Vegas.. Vegas..” said Clark W. Griswold (Vegas Vacation).

Mayweather can not be beaten at this point in his career, he’s too good. Pacquiao is a great fighter, with explosive power. Good enough that he probably scares the undefeated champion a little. If Pacquiao were an unknown, a sleeper that could catch Mayweather by surprise, he might have a chance. But you can be sure Mayweather will take this fight for what it is, the toughest of his career. Pacman, being the quality fighter that he is, will keep it close for most of the fight, but Mayweather stays unbeaten.

the fight will be decided in the first few rounds. if Manny falls for Mayweather thiking game its all over. Marquez threw over a 100 punches a round against Manny and when he fought Floyd only 100 punches the entire fight. Marquez and Manny fought 24 rounds and it was a hard battle. Zab Judah or Joshua Clottely will beat manny easy, manny never fought a slick fighter before and will be outclassed by floyd. Floyd is probably the best in the fight game right now. On the real the fight may go the distance or late rounds but floyd will embarass pacman.

Is the fight confirmed? I live in the Uk and need to book the flight before the fares go sky high. My heart says the pacman should destroy Mayweather in 8, but you have to remember Mayweather only takes fights when he can see a weakness. I think the pacman is going to have trouble getting past Mayweather’s awesome defence, you have to admit he’s a great southpaw, although i would love the pacman to cut Mayweather to pieces, i would love to see him eat the canvas like Ricky Hatton…

I think FMJR is an awesome fighter/boxer. I don’t think he wants to be in the ring with a focused and determined MP. I think all this talks about blood tests and that MP is affraid of taking one is a strategic move from the FMJR camp. I don’t think its gonna be easy and I don’t think there will be a knockout. I think MP will win but, its gonna be really close. MP is strong, agile and really really fast but, so is FMJR. FMJR has proved that he can take a punch. He is a tremendous athlete. We’ll se what hapens.

For my man, manny to win, he will need to change his style by defending more. I have studied Mayweather’s previous fights and all I could say is that am scared. Boxing is not only about attacking and unless Manny could stop the constant jabs and occasional two to three Mayweather punches, he may lose even in the early rounds.

Hard to call but judging on last performances manny all the way he has beat every one mayweather has but easier apart from marques. Pacman has now hit his form and has carried his power through the weights. Mayweather will need to mix it up to win not just dodge shots like he can off slower opponents.

I am a pro Pacquiao fan and I love to dance and I also teach Salsa, all Ballroom, and all Latin since 1992. Even if Mayweather learned to dance from the “Dancing with the Stars” pros, Mayweather will have difficulty applying his dance moves to Pacquiao. Mayweather can Samba on the ring and escape Pacquiao for the first 2 rounds but after 2 rounds of dance performance, Pacquiao will finally cash in on the combinations and create big hurt on Mayweather which will cause Mayweather to slow Waltz or Ballad for the rest of the rounds. That will now be an opportunity for Pacquiao to go for the knock out.
My advice to Pacquiao is face or body block Mayweather’s punch/es while executing a left or right uppercut combination – an elegant hip hop boxing move that creates a scrumptuous knockout!
Seriously,Pacquiao has to be smart in this fight and fight with no mercy even if Mayweather pretends that he is not hurt.
If Mayweather wants to survive the 12 rounds, he has to perform the following dances:
1st 2 rounds, he has to Tango with the fast fans and maybe some ganchos and ochos LOL!
3rd thru 5th rounds, he has to Lambada for survival LOL!
6th and 7th round, he has to convince the
Dominicanos that he is fighting very well and still in the thick of things by dancing Merengue and Bachata LOL!

Finally in the 12th round, if he has energy left, he can Samba and convince the Brazilians that he can finish Pacquiao who at this time will be dancing the Tinikling with accurate punches LOL!
I will enjoy this fight and hopefully “Dancing with the Stars” dance performers will watch this great boxing match too! They will be disappointed though that dancing will not help too much against Philippines’ Folk dances.

of all the champions i have seen, mayweather is the MOST boring! having said that, if boxing fans can pray, most will pray that mayweather be crucified! they are both best fighters in this era but i guess the one loved most is manny! but its not really there being loved by the fans but their skills that matter. mayweather has the best defense and manny has the best offense. this fight would be like an ancient war where maywheather is like the solid entrance door (for his defence) and manny is like a ton of solid wood on a cart pushed through the door to break it off (for his high-caliber offense).

Great to see it’s in the works….probably won’t happen until sometime in May as they continue to work the details. Floyd looked the best I have seen him fight against Marquez and Pac-man made Cotto look like a golden gloves firghter. Both fighters are fast and throw solid combinations and counter-punches. My bet is on a split decision for Mayweather. Regardless of the outcome……let’s hope for a trilogy. Set your DVRs for this one.
Will be a very interesting fight, Pacman hasnt fought anyone that has the defensive skills of mayweather nor the speed of mayweatherm believe it or not but FMM is actually faster that Pacman, Manny may have more power but Floyds defence is just too good, plus FMM has a good chin aswell so even if Manny does connect cleanly it wont phase FMM too much. Three if you go back to the Jose Luis Castillo fight yes Mayweather lost but he learned from it so it wont happen again. If his opponent is aggresive like Corrales or Hatton, Mayweather adjusts and uses their agressiveness against them and wins. All of Mayweathers southpaw fights weren’t hard, they were methodical and guess who won! Pacquiao fights with alot of energy. Every fight is the same and typical. Can you win a fight when you know your opponents only fight plan? Floyd can change his methods/fightplan, can Manny?

Manny only knows one way to fight and can’t make adjustments. He will need to make adjustments! Floyd makes adjustments and does what is necessary to WIN, which isn’t always pretty to some. If Manny can’t chase and fight continuously, he loses. If Mayweather goes toe to toe, which is unlikely, it will be a closer fight and Pacquiao MAY win. We all want to see a toe toe fight but it aint happening! Mayweather has never been pressed when boxing because noone could. Pacquiao fights best when pressed. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather has the speed. The question is does Pacquiao has enough power to KO or to slow down or to intemidate Mayweather? And does Mayweather has enough power to hurt Pacquiao?
I think the only way Mayweather can survive for 12 rounds is to back away from Pacquiao with very minimum counters. Otherwise, one of Pacquiao’s punches may hit him. I think the best that he can do is to deliver a job while moving back (since he has longer reach). But he should be always on guard to run just incase Pacquiao suddenly rushes on him.
Mayweather is very talented and very slippery. But if he cannot KO Pacquiao, I’m not sure if he can keep his performance for 12 rounds of “storm” from Pacquiao.
I hope Mayweather wins because he is the true image of boxing – skill wise. Pacquiao, he just a fighter – not enough skill but lots of heart.

It’s going to be his toughest fight yet and he may find it hard to train at 100% with such a short break between both fights. He’s only going to have a few weeks off from training in total.
