Mayweather vs Pacquiao: It Could be March 13th or Never

By Frank Car: Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao’s promoter said if Pacquiao “let’s Mayweather off the hook now by not agreeing to the March 13th date because of the politics here in this country then we are never going to get him (Mayweather) in the ring. We will give him the excuse to say ‘Yeah I’ll fight anybody but look at this Pacquiao..” in an exclusive interview with Standard Today, Viva Sports and www.insidessports.ph at the New World Hotel in Makati (city in Manila, the national capital of the Philippines).
He went on to say “we have everything in place to get it done but we’ve got to start now.” Then in siting reasons for that he said “there is no reason why Pacquiao wouldn’t do the fight. He trains in the month of January and February and we are not doing a tour and only one press conference in New York at Madison Square Garden.” The press conference he speaks of would be held on January 11th, 2010.
In speaking about Mayweather Arum said that he is a “very, very good fighter. He is probably one of the best defensive fighters that I’ve seen. But I tell you that as far as Manny Pacquiao, he will destroy Maywather and that’s why I like the fight, my matchermaker Bruce Trampler who is about to enter the Hall of Fame and Freddie Roach like the fight and that’s why Mayweather has been reluctant to do the fight.”
However it’s worth to note that Mayweather is not the relucant one anymore if he ever was. He is seemingly the one ready to go. Who will destroy who is something we all want to find out, hopefully coming March 13th.

March is too early for Pacquiao to fight. But for Bob Arum the more fights mean more money. For him Pacquiao is just a cash cow. And another thing is the early the fight is the better for Mayweather. And they will try to make Mayweather win (he’s american). It’s not cool to loss to a third world country. And it’s not cool for an american boxing dynasty to loss to a nobody from nowhere. I think it’s best to just rig the fight.
I agree with #12 peter. Just one more fight this with Mayweather to seal the clamor. Pac, just finish this fight then you can concentrate with politics. It is good to have multi-tasking but with Mayweather its better to stay focused and good too for your camp. More power and bless you.

i got to agree with #12 peter. may 1 is the better date than march 13, pacquiao with all the distractions thats going on in his life needs to train longer, mayweather is good for mar 13th because his fight was done in sept 19.
i think pacman is getting greedy like bob arum, hes got lots of politician friends with lots of shady businesses. doing too much things thats got nothing to help but ruin his boxing career. pacman needs to make up his mind weather he wants to prioritize boxing or politics.
I think that Manny is getting some bad advice or that he is too naive to know better.
Politics is not a hobby. You have to do it 150% if you are going to make any real contributions in that arena.
Same with any pursuit. He should know better. Boxing is the same. Did Manny get to where he is in boxing by just dabbling in it. By all accounts, when he trains, he is an animal.
I think he needs to choose boxing or go into politics full time. He can’t do both. What’s going to happen if he wins the election?
How does a politician explain to his constituents that he is going to take 8-12 weeks off so he can train for a boxing match, even if it is going to be a mega-fight with Mayweather. What a ridiculous scenario he is going to put himself in.
I hope a couple of years from now, we won’t look back at this point in his career and say this is where his career “jumped the shark.”
He only has a couple of more fights left to cement his career and legacy. ATG is within grasp. If he can beat PBF, there will be no disputes. The haters will always hate, but any real fan of boxing will fully appreciate his career.
Why screw up what you’ve worked so hard to do with this tangent into the political arena?
Politics can wait.
I totally understand that he wants to help out his countrymen, but he can do so much more for them via boxing right now. He is only 30 years old. He is where he is because of boxing. Everything he has done for the poor in his country has come from his success in boxing.
I think March 13th is too soon. Make the fight for May 1 — enough time to heal, train, and promote the megafight.
Pacquiao, call off your political bid. Admit to your countrymen and fans that you have unfinished business in boxing before you devote your life to politics.
Trust me. Everyone will understand and will respect you for it.

Pacman take whatever time/vacation you need to recuperate/reset your mindset and ensure enough training before you fight again specially Floyd. Pls don’t listen too much w/ the greedy matchmaker whose main goal is to make money and not worry about your health/well being…
manny is not taking a vacation. that’s the problem with him. while arum is busy negotiating the deal and subsequently went to wait in New World Hotel, manny is busy shotting his “wapakman” movie.. hay
and now manny is worried that he’ll lose again in election…hay again.
he should focus his mood on boxing. showbiz and politics is not yet his time.
manny has been a consistence fighter,you know who going to show up.think if bob put the pressure on and his alleged girl friend problem and elections responsibility. the real pacman could not show up or a very off night.you need the hunger,the drive.or its possible to have a off night.manny need the mind reset. and that takes getting away for a fews weeks,
I think Manny will beat Floyd whenever – but I must admit, if this was the other way round, all the haters would be up in arms against Floyd!
dont think manny in the mood for fighting. sound silly,but to understand pac way of training its 4 x as hard as any fighters, you have to take a vacation,too get that hunger again,that feeling again I want to kick some butts. Its a mental things first, or you not going train hard enough.
manny hasnt taken that vacation yet as the election things has much to do too.dont let bob say it could not come about again, bob loves money any time or place.screw bob….fight later when you are ready is fine …..
May 09 – Roach says Mayweather would be an easier fight than Cotto/Mosley (after Mayweather signs for Marquez)
Sunday – Roach says he thinks manny needs a 10 week training camp rather than an 8 week camp to get used to Floyd’s style, as Floyd would be his most difficult fight.
Monday – Roach says Floyd is being difficult in negotiations and he doesn’t want to fight the March date and if he doesn’t take it, they’ll look to fight Foreman in March.
Tuesday – Floyd’s camp and Arum agree terms for a May date. Pacquiao’s camp says they got the elections in May. Floyd agrees march date, Arum flies to Phillippines.
Wednesday – Roach says March is too soon because of Manny’s burst eardrum (full recovery is 3 weeks for this injury) and fight should be after elections.
Thursday – Pacman fans say Floyd only wants the fight so soon as it’s close to the Cotto fight – though it’s 4 months??? more than he’s had on some of his previous fights???
excuses are coming – get the fight signed Manny ! you’ll probably win it anyway !!!!

Of course, Mayweather, Jr. wants to fight right now. Manny just came off a hard fight with Cotto. Then if he doesn’t answer right now, he’ll look like he’s avoiding again. But I don’t really care about this background BS. What I care about is the real fight and who would win, that’s all. The drama to get there, I’ll just maybe close my eyes and just wait for the real thing…
