By Giancarlo Malinconico: According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, Richard Schaefer, who is representing Floyd Mayweather in negotiations, has stated that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) conducted testing of both fighters is not a necessary condition any longer.Testing conducted by an independent agency would be sufficient. Perhaps members of Golden Boy Promotions and the Mayweather camp (whom I have heard are big fans of Boxing News 24.com) have smartened up and read my latest article, Mayweather versus Pacquiao: If the fight does not Happen, Floyd will have Blood on his Hand. Schaefer seems to be implying that Mayweather would agree to random urine and blood testing up until a certain cutoff date, but that the tests must be much closer to fight night than the original 30-day proposal from the Pacquiao camp, which is an understandable request. Somewhere between 3-5 days before the day of the fight seems appropriate.
The Mayweather/Golden Boy camps seem to have made a good faith proposal to work out this issue. Let’s just hope this press release is in good faith, and not just a way for Mayweather to avoid appearing as if he is avoiding the bout. Nevertheless, it is now up Pacquiao to accept the random blood tests up until a reasonable amount of time before the weigh-in. As long as the testing does not intrude on the competitors in an unreasonable manner such as random tests during sleep hours or the day of the weigh-in, there is no reason this fight should not happen. If he refuses to accept the fight under reasonable conditions, then the Pac Man’s legacy may be haunted by a black cloud.

BREAKING NEWS: Amid a looming legal battle over claims of steroids use and the other camp’s declaration that the mega-fight is dead, the side of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. appears ready to soften its stand on the disputed dope-testing item in the planned March 13 showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

Whoa!!! You can ask for anything you want in an offer! Hence the request of the Mayweather camp. It’s not a contract until both parties agree on all the terms. Soon uninformed boxing fans will be asking the boxing commission to have standardized contracts for all boxing matches……and then what?!

Floyd Mayweather Jr is so scared of the tiny little guy that he will do everything to get out of the fight. Next, he will demand that going to the bathroom within 24 hrs of the fight will be illegal and there will be a penalty of $1 million per bathroom visit.
Then he will demand that the ring should be as large as a football field so he can ran around and not get hit by the little guy.
Then he will require that they fight at 160 lbs which is his natural weight.
And if all else fails, he will demand that he goes inside the ring with a baseball bat.
GBP and Mayweather Team fired the first volley (i.e. accusing the MP camp of using steroids). MP Camp fired back threatening a lawsuit for libel and defamation against GBP and the Mayweathers for accusing MP of using steroids without proof or evidence. Based on presumption of innocence, all lawyers will agree MP will win this case 100% and the damages can amount to hundreds of millions of dollars (future earnings, legacy and name destroyed due to the accusation).
GBP backs down with the CEO saying he was just being instructed by his client and that they are willing to compromise.
MP camp now makes a counter-offer stating that they are willing to do a blood test even while walking into the ring AS LONG AS THE NEVADA COMMISSION will be the one to require it, and not the Mayweathers since they are not a Boxing Commission, nor should they (the Mayweathers) be allowed to mandate the procedures of any boxing match.
Now the ball is in GBP/Mayweather side…
Hmmm…this is going to be long long game for all the fans before the contract is signed. There might even be 2 fights — one inside the RING, and another inside the COURT.

and you pactards out there no one not even Nevada is saying urine tests (the only tests Nevada does) shows HGH and many other designer steroids. Holyfield got away with it for years. Baseball got away with it for years. Instead of admitting the testing is inadequate they claim its perfect. When this testing was put in place there was no such thing as HGH!! Theres always new drugs and new ways to beat urine tests. Why are all of Pacquiao’s fans afraid of testing that will show HGH and other newer PEDs?? This should be done for every fight!! Really I was pretty shocked when I found out boxing doesn’t test for HGH and theres about a 3 month period between the 2 urine tests they perform on set dates the fighters know of months before. this system is a joke and needs to be changed. How can anyone say Mayweather doesn’t want this fight?? Do any one saying this know whats been agreed?? The weight Manny wanted, the purse split Manny wanted, the gloves Manny wanted, a $10 million per pound penalty Manny wanted. Mayweather even agreed to testing done by Nevada and up to five days before fight, like Manny had proposed the day before. As soon as Manny heard Mayweather accepted his latest proposal he immediately backtracked! No random testing, nothing inside 30 days, and his promoter is telling everyone no blood test at all. Mayweather has agreed to his every demand and everytime Manny comes up with a new excuse! If Mayweather agrees to no testing, then Manny probably won’t fight above 140. If floyd agreed to that it would be something different. Manny has literally written this whole contract, Mayweather is agreeing to everything to get this fight and Manny comes up with a new excuse daily. And why is he so afraid of random testing??? His latest statement once again reitirates NO RANDOM TESTING.

From all my years of watching boxing, I’ve always noticed that good boxing beats good fighting. Ask Mike Tyson, about Buster Douglas, Lennox Lewis or Holyfield. None of these guys can punch like Tyson, but they used their boxing ability to frustrate Tyson and win. Oh and by the way, they all won by KO…One more example, Bernard Hopkins vs Felix Trinidad. We all knew about Trinidad’s punching power and his attacking style, however Hopkins neutralized it with his boxing ability. And one more thing, he also won by KO……..
Mayweather is a boxer, not a fighter……. He wins this fight easily….

Pacman is a true challange for Mayweather and he knows it. he believes that if he can impose his will upon Pacman it will give him the edge. This fight is for the fans. The fans wants this fight, not just in North America or Latin America but around the world. It involves the two pound for pound great boxers in the world right now. A lot of people from different walks of life are talking about this fight and the controversies leading to the fight. So it is a shame and it will give great frustrations for the fans to the sport of boxing, if this fight will not happen this March or perhaps May. Both sides should put aside Prides and Egos to finalize this deal, specially Bob Arum and Mayweather Jr. himself. Everyone knows of how great their relationship is, so forget about it and make the right decisions and fair proposals for both sides, for the sake of the fans around the world. The revenues that will be generated not just in Las Vegas or in the U.S. but also elsewhere in the world are enormous. From Sports Bars, Cinemas, Corner store t.v’s and of course people ordering ppv’s to watch this MEGA Fight live! So please move on and finalize the deal and no more trash talking to the point of insulting the integrity of the fighters. Perhaps resume trash talking once everything is finally official! Wow, I knew it would be something. After already agreeing to blood tests, up to five days before the fight, Mayweather has said alright, you choose who does the testing and the schedule you already agreed to. Now, Pacqiao backtracks and says only what the Nevada commission requires, which everyone knows is only urine tests that won’t show HGH. Pacquiao keeps looking for ways out of this fight that Mayweather and the public are demanding. First he wanted a 50/50 split which no one ever thought floyd would agree to. He did. Then 147 instead of 154, Floyd said okay Manny whatever you want. Floyd called for 10 oz. gloves, Manny threatened to call off the fight, ok,ok 8 oz gloves are fine manny. Then Manny demanded a $10 million per pound penalty. No argument there, whatever you say Manny. Now no USADA testing but we will do blood testing up to 5 days before the fight. OK, lets do that then Manny. Now, no never mind what I said, lets just stick to the Nevada rules. We wont be pushed around, we want everything according to the Nevada policy. And if that doesn’t include testing for HGH, then we wont do it. Only what the commission protocol is. Oh and a $10 million per pound penalty, which is unprecedented and not according to Nevada protocol. Which is it, they want everything done according to Nevada’s past or they are willing to change it to include a $10 million penalty. They never thought Floyd would agree to half of this, and thought they got out of the fight for sure with the $10 million clause. Two years ago, i would favor Mayweather with a UD victory . . however, now, with momentum on Pac’s side (KO or TKOs in his last 4 fights against bigger opponents), i now look forward to him winning either by split decision or by KO.
Keys will be: (1)Power shots from awkward angles (not the straight line shots that defensive specialists pick on) . . both right and left hand i.e. Mayweather has never been dazed with his excellent defense, however, it only takes a couple of good power shots (Pac will get his moments) and we may finally know the extent of Floyd’s brilliance or his downfall; (2) Pac Monster has already been in wars that will serve him well when the going gets tough e.g. future hall of famers Barrera, Marquez, Morales, Cotto (including common opponents Hatton and Oscar . . both of which were blasted by Pac! Interestingly, Hatton gave a couple of difficult rounds against Mayweather and past-prime Oscar almost having a win. Granted that Mayweather easily beat Marquez – the betting odds were correct “4:1 favorite” from the slow moving/bulk up Mexican fighter who was unsuccessful moving up two weight classes); (3) Mayweather camp potentially under-estimate the Pac-man (e.g. one dimensional fighter, no skills, has been beaten/ko’d, can be cut, pick your potential excuses, etc) – they will get a suprise. The hubris of “0″ defeat may prove an illusion. Just like we see in basketball, football, some teams go “0 losses” during elimination and then meeting up with a team with a few defeats early on but won the last 4 games. “Boom” – the team with immaculate record during elimination got beat on the play-offs or finals against a hungry/focused/determined foe with momentum on his side.
Its good to have strong views from either side. That will ensure this fight will be a tremendous commercial success.
Will Mayweather’s defensive wizardry be too much for the Pac Man? Some info on HGH (from online medical sources): HGH taken alone is actually ineffective in enhancing performance. What the studies show is that HGH can only be effective when it is taken in conjunction with anabolic steroids (i.e. steriods can be detected by urine testing). This means that in order to get the maximum effect an athlete must take both at the same time. The trouble with this fact is that as mentioned earlier anabolic steroids can easily be detected, and with a simple urine test you can already get caught. The information campaign could also lay some emphasis on the possible risks and side effects that can result from too much intake of HGH. Some of these are acromelagy, which in layman’s terms is gigantism, increased risk of diabetes, swelling of joints, edema, being more prone to different types of cancer and many others. If this can be done then it would probably dissuade athletes from even thinking about taking HGH.
Bottom line: Some boxing writers right now are trying to say a “one way street” on HGH, however, if you look at the medical facts . . its not “conclusive” and likely much is to be learned and studied about these drugs. However, No amount of drugs will (1) improve your skills and strategy in the ring e.g. if this drug made everybody smarter or gave them a new fountain of skills, everybody will be using it!; (2) the idea of bulking up, c’mon – PacMan is known and recognize for his “speed”, not his bulk body or armor muscles. If you ask me, bulking up, would actually sacrifice your speed . . so isn’t this an anti-thesis of the Pacquiao fast machine; (3) in this high stakes negotiation where each side attempts to get the better deal i.e. Mayweather’s request was answered “half-way” by Pacquiao – 3 blood tests (after fight announcement, before 30 days and just after the fight), these blood tests are not required for professional/competitive boxing in Nevada (Las Vegas), but Pacquiao offered this. The test just after the fight, should provide conclusive and reliable evidence that meet Olympic standards if Pac took anything! (these drugs stay in the body at least a week, depending of quantity taken); (4) Let’s take a look at the messenger of this “unsubstantiated allegations” – Mayweathers camp – goodness! these guys are not the bastion of honesty and purity, heck, they could produce a reality series with their numerous court cases, run-ins with the law, tax problems, what have you.
We don’t know whether this fight will push through or not . . However, the ascent of Manny to the top of the boxing world was duly documented in 24/7/media outlets/stories that show: (a) Manny took long hours in the gym, working on a strategy, improving his right hand to be as good as the left hand i.e. if this guy was really on super-performance drugs – why waste too many hours in the gym when you have super strength? why improve your right hand, when with the aid of this wonder drug, all you need is an ultra-power left?; (b) Manny has not shown the behavior of a guy in super-drugs who is all “about me . . me . . i can do this easily”. Instead, if you ask Manny – he will just say – “I will try my best to do well, hopefully to win for the Filipino people” or “give God glory”. I have not heard any of those humble words from all the drug convicted top athletes; and (c) Finally, no amount of “Mayweather or his minions propaganda” nor articles from writers that quick to judge on unwarranted accusations – - Society and the fans (casual/hard-core) will collectively in its wisdom make their own decisions – and vote empathically with their wallets (e.g. PPV/gate attendance). That will be the definitive statement!.

Looking at the various polls – Manny is still very much supported e.g. between 60% – 80%. This article is misleading. Mayweather insists on olympic style of blood testing by USADA. This procedure is only for olympians and amateur athletes.
Not a single US professional athlete is following the USADA’s olympic rule. We are talking professional boxing where drug tests are according to commission rule. Kobe, Lebron follow’s NBA version of testing. And also with other professional sports. This is what Pacquiao is amenable with. Roach wants a cut-off before the fight and they don’t budge with random testing.

Before any other idiot gets on this post and says how now The Pacquiao camp can get to uses HGH and other drugs for a complete week or 2 before the fight, please dont post it. You need to cycle PED’s on and off for them to take effect. Breaking news: No more USADA test required as contract terms. This was expeccted not because this was just a ploy. When pacman said he will file suits and is ready to drop Mayweather, GBP, MP, ODLH and the Mayweather started infighting blaming each other for the fish that got away! Arum and Mayweather’s animosity is open book but 2 parties (Top Rank and MP) can come to terms easier. Make it 3 parties, 2 to 1 will make it difficult. This is a back and forth game of chess. Here’s a summary of just a little bit of what has gone on:
Pacquiao agrees to extra tests, Mayweather reveals late in the negations that the Olympic folks will be doing the blood tests at random which means blood could be drawn right before the fight. Pacquiao disagrees to this. Folks start saying, “Why did Pacquiao agree to the tests then change his mind?”. He didn’t. He didn’t know about the Olympic blood testing until recently. (More to come on why Pacquiao doesn’t want random blood testing)
Pacquiao says no blood tests and Mayweather has to pay 10 million dollars for every pound he’s over weight. Mayweather agrees to the weight penalty. (The ONLY honorable thing he’s done)
Pacquiao agrees to all the urine samples they want and to blood tests but not closer to the fight than 30 days, and he’s okay with letting them draw blood IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FIGHT (30 days isn’t enough time for anybody to get all doped up and it be out of his system by the time the fight is over. This is a key point that shows Pacquiao is innocent).
Mayweather has a “see I told you so” attitude with the press, Pacquiao gets hacked off. Freddie Roach says he’s okay with blood being drawn if it’s not closer than 72 hours before the fight. Pac disagrees. His last loss was to Morales. Blood was drawn before that fight. He thinks it weakened him. Pacquiao is superstitious about a lot of things. Glove style and size and blood withdrawals before a fight are important to him. He lost 2 fights when he wasn’t wearing his preferred gloves. He lost one fight when blood was drawn before the fight. There is no way that Pacquiao will ever agree to fighting without 8 ounce Cleto Reyes gloves, nor will he agree to blood withdrawals before a fight, ESPECIALLY if it’s done by the Olympic committee who has no business testing professional athletes, and can test AS OFTEN AS THEY CHOOSE.
“I got pretty upset two days ago because since I have been here, they have tested me four times. They’ve taken so much blood from us we’re going to be very weak before the final.”- Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell complained he was tested excessively during the 2008 Olympics
Arum proposes that the fight can still happen and random testing CAN BE DONE if they agree to a cutoff date for the blood testing and they get someone else to do it beside the Olympic organization. This is a professional sport. He wants an anti doping organization that tests pro athletes. Come to find out, Oscar De La Hoya, owner of Golden Boy Promotions, has close ties to the top dog with the Olympic U.S. Anti Dopers Association, (USADA). Arum and Pacquiao have enough sense not to make any direct accusations or insinuations as they refuse to be tested by this organization. Mayweather and his clan do not possess this type of intelligence and choose to engage in blatant defamation of character.
Mayweather keeps shooting off his mouth until Pac is furious. Arum talks to Michael Koncz who tells him to drop the fight negotiations. Arum tries to tell Koncz the fight can still be made, Pac takes the phone. Arum said he’s known Manny Pacquiao for a long time and he’s “…never seen him like that”. Pacquiao is livid; tells Arum not to even bother talking to the Mayweather camp and that he’s suing the Golden Boy Promotions, the Mayweathers, and Schaeffer for defamation and slander.
Today, Manny makes it official and writes a column verifying his intention to sue. He attributes the fruits of his labor to his dedication, hard work, and God. He once again ensures the public that he has never taken performance enhancing drugs of any kind.
Later today, after a few days of silence, Mayweather speaks. Suddenly, with a lawsuit impending, he’s willing to give a little. He says they can get another agency to do the random testing and they’ll negotiate a cutoff date. He basically agreed to what Arum previously proposed. This time Arum says “No”. He says they won’t do blood tests unless the Nevada State Athletic Commission wants them to.
Summary of the summary: Mayweather is a complete idiot who is now even more hated by boxing fans. 99% of the fans are blaming him for harming the sport. He’s making a mockery of boxing. He’s making it look like professional wrestling, a “sport” to which he is also affiliated. He’s creating a legacy for himself that is not flattering. Mayweather’s insecurities are now shining brightly.
Mayweather is once again willing to negotiate, as you can see in the article I’ve linked below. Other articles have made the point that it’s not the blood testing that bothers Pacquiao per say; It’s the relinquishing of control to Mayweather.
This fight isn’t dead yet. In a statement Pacquiao made to the press, he said that he is suing, but also told Mayweather to “…face me in the ring man to man”.
With all of this nonsense having taken place I’ll tell you this: If the fight does happen, Manny Pacquiao will absolutely destroy Floyd Mayweather Jr. It will be a supreme display of brutality and violence against Mayweather, which is now precisely what the world wants to see more than ever. I think Mayweather has been playing a game of psychological warfare all along. Whether the fight takes place in the ring or in the courtroom, it’s about to back-fire on him big-time. Traditionally, angry boxers lose fights. However, any fan of Manny Pacquiao knows that the opposite has always proven to be true of him and this time there’s more fuel for the fire than ever. He has never bad-mouthed an opponent outside the ring until recently.
If Pacquiao is guilty of cheating, and I don’t think he is, it will come out. In a case like this where accusations are made and the person is guilty, somebody always blows the whistle. Some are saying “Where there’s smoke there’s fire”. That’s usually true. However, that’s usually not the case when it’s Mayweather smoke. You have to consider the source.
If the fight happens, for a lot of boxing fans, it will be the LAST fight in which they’ll ever pay to see Mayweather. To casual boxing fans who don’t dig to get the real story, it will probably appear that Pacquiao is guilty. That makes me sick.
The best case scenario would be:
1. The details are agreed upon and the fight is set.
2. Manny drops the lawsuit.
3. Manny beats Mayweather to within an inch of his life.
4. Mayweather excuses the loss by saying Manny was on something and wouldn’t be tested close enough BEFORE the fight (a few, very stupid people believe it, even though blood tests DIRECTLY AFTER the fight reveal NOTHING).
5. Manny resumes the lawsuit and winds up with Mayweather’s newly “earned” 35 million dollars (If he sues, he will win).
6. Manny retires with a fresh 70 million dollars in the bank.
7. Mayweather loses what’s left of his fan base and never gets another million dollar purse, let alone 35 million.
Personally, I’m willing to pay a lot to see Manny Pacquiao knock Mayweather out of the ring. Then, if Mayweather-style propaganda is the future of the sport of boxing, I’m done with it. This used to be the “Sweet Science”. It’s not professional wrestling. It’s not Mixed Martial Arts. It’s Boxing. Perhaps Floyd Mayweather Jr. chose the wrong sport.
Fight Pacquiao, then go back to wrestling, Floyd. Nobody cares anymore.

Pacquiao has NEVER failed any form of drug test in his entire professional boxing career. Also, there are no indications in his body mass that suggests wrongdoing. Is it really because they think he is on steroids or because he is simply on top of the boxing world right now? A small man from a third-world country whom people said wasn’t supposed to reach this far high ever in his career.
Finally the Mayweather camp has opened their eyes and realized that they can’t run forever. Now, we just have to wait for Pacquiao to accept. If he refuses then there is sufficient reason to presume something is going on.
