mayweather4337464By Manuel Perez: ESPN writer Dan Rafael is reporting that Floyd Mayweather Jr. and World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao have signed a contract for the March 13th bout, and the purse split is going to be 50-50 for the $80 million. Gee, I wonder what happened to Pacquiao and his 60-40?

Thank god Pacquiao came back down to earth and agreed to the 50-50. I personally still think Mayweather should have gotten the most money, but whatever. Rafael says that no location for the bout has been selected yet. 8 oz gloves will be worn. That should benefit Mayweather, the quicker fighter. The best part of the deal is that the fight will be held at 147, rather than another catch weight. That’s good news.

Rafael says that for promotional purposes that the bout will be called “Mayweather-Pacquiao” with Mayweather’s name coming before Pacquiao. That makes sense, because Mayweather is the undefeated fighter and the one fighting in his home country. “M” comes before “P”, so Pacquiao should come after Mayweather in my view. But seriously, Mayweather has been a flawless performer in America for years now and has entertained audiences here for a decade.

I sure wish Pacquiao had fought someone like Timothy Bradley instead of Hatton, and Shane Mosley or Antonio Margarito instead of the recently beaten Cotto. And in place of De La Hoya, I would have liked to have seen Pacquiao fight Paul Williams. He and his management team have been great at match making until now, because he’s been kept out of fights against Bradley, Williams and Mosley for some reason.
