Manny Pacquiao vs Yuri Foreman…What?!

pac667By Eamon Mcdonald: I recently read an interview with Freddie Roach, the trainer for Manny Pacquiao, in which he said Manny might take on World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman. The majority of boxing fans will respond ‘who’s that?’ and that is exactly my response. Pacquaio would have to gain more weight to fight this unknown fighter which in turn could end up being a big talking point in the Mayweather-Pacquiao match next year (which is going to happen, I don’t know why people keep talking bout it being canceled because it will definitely happen).

If Pacquiao were to gain another 6-10 pounds to fight this guy and then drop down to welterweight to fight Mayweather im sure his body would disagree with all this weight fluctuation and it would in turn affect his performance against the only guy who stands in his way of being named fighter of the decade (even though Pacquiao pretty much has cemented himself as the fighter of the decade). It’s a smart idea of cherry picking the opponent to get pacquiao an 8th weight division title but not a smart idea if it has any chance of affecting his preparation for the Mayweather fight.

One fight I would love to see in the 1st half of next year, if the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight does happen next autumn, is Mayweather vs. Mosley. That fight excites me even more than Pacquiao against Mayweather because Mosley is a big welterweight with such power and speed that, if he doesn’t age in 2010, gives him every chance of defeating Pretty Boy Floyd. Although Andre Berto cannot be overlooked, I’m pretty sure we all secretly feel that Sugar Shane will defeat Berto.

Another fight which interests me is hatton vs JMM due to it being an all out war. Two offensive fighters who are both skilled and both hard as nails, just a pity it won’t be as good as advertised cause Hatton is so out of shape right now that if he did manage to lose the 40 pounds or so required then he would probably be knocked out by a smaller fighter and yet another loss to a smaller guy would appear on his resume.

Mayweather: Fight Sugar Shane Mosley while he’s still active, or Andre Berto if he manages to pull off the victory.

Pacquaio: Do not fight Yuri Foreman, there’s only so much your body can take and it would affect the Mayweather fight. It could even ruin it if you lost.

Manuel Perez: Stop talking about Marquez, yes he’s a world class fighter but so is Manny so give the guy some respect.

Yuri Foreman, if you want to be Pacquiao why not go up in weight and challenge the light heavyweight champion. you can even tell the light heavyweight champion to go down your desired weight and challenge him.
Come on, your way too far out in height for Pacquiao to reach you. That’s not an honorable challenge. GO UP IN weight and challenge your own size. STUPID!!!!!!

  • yopie says:

i think Mayweather is afraid for his record of 40-0-25 it’s obvious if he don,t face pacquiao. its something that cowardice. Mayweather is always hesitating on crucial fight, demanding, he is choosing who wants to beat. whatever he do, he’s behind manny, coz nothing yet recorded for 7 different title. be a man of honor niger…

Best defensive boxer vs Best offensive boxer. Lets make it happen!! 2010

  • Joker says:

Pacman is the one who put boxing alive again and people want to see who ever his opponent because of his spectacular action inside the ring, if he will fight Foreman, I can guarantee, million of viewer still want to see this fight, they want to see a second Delahoya. Pacquiao need to eat 5 times a day to gain weight and a lot of rice. On the other hand, If Mayweather fight other opponent, I don’t think people will interested to see, coz it will be boring fight.

I would like to share one the one story with you about

I think it will be very interesting for you to read…

  • john says:

Pacman filed his candidacy for congressman. Election is on May 2010. No fight for Pacman on March will happen. He would busy then to campaign for his candidacy. He will be introduce by Michael Buffer on his next fight Sept 2010.. ” Lets get ready to rumble.. introducing… The current WBO Welterweight champion of the world, Honorable Congressman Manny Pacman Pacquiao”.

  • nepster says:

Pacquiao Mayweather – March 13th…Mayweather accepted the terms…now it’s in Pac’s court, the ball that is.

  • jesmedhytz says:

pacman vs foremen. . interesting as foreman’s belt will be the 8th belt for pac if he wins

  • Kamal says:

I have a sneaky feeling that the Pacquiao vs Mayweather bout will be contested at 154lbs, hence the pacquiao Vs Foreman fight as a prep match for Manny. Lets not forget that Mayweather fought De La Hoya at 154lbs.

The Perez thingy was priceless dude!!

  • J Cruze says:

    yahoo sports.

Though there were reports that Arum was considering matching Pacquiao with new WBO super welterweight champion Yuri Foreman on March 13 in Dallas, that was a diversionary move and was never serious, the source said.

  • mally j says:

Manny will get his but kicked if he fought any 6″1 fighter the throws 100 punches around.I say this Paul Williams is a good fighter and him fighting Pac shows me nothing unless pac win and i doubt tht i will bet my whole check lol but Paul isn’t all that trust me I wouldn’t b surprised if Mayweather did fight him a beat him like he beat Diego.

  • NamCap says:

If both of them back out and try to set-up a fight which no one wants to see they are both to blame.

They have a responsibility to all boxing fans either they be Mayweather fan or Pamcman fan.

  • floyd mayweather says:

DONT THINK FLOYD WANT THIS FIGHT BADLY ,NEGOTIATION IS STILL GOING ON YET,WHAT ROACH IS DOING IS SHOWING FLOYD THAT WE DONT NEED YOU SO THINK TWICE ,AND TRYING TO GET A DATE AGREE ON ,NOTHING FINAL TILL ARUM SAY SO. ,BUT ITS A LAST SHOT EFFORT ,TO GET AT LEASE A DATE NEXT YEAR AGREE ON IF MARCH SHOT.

  • Kingo says:

And ye, Manuel Perez is a bum.

  • Kingo says:

The reason Mayweather and Manny wouldn’t fight is because the team Pacquiao are having trouble negotiating with Floyd. Floyd hasn’t officially mentioned that he wants to fight pacquiao.

  • hahahaha says:

mayweather will not fight mosley unless mosley loses to berto. mayweather will probably fight another lightweight or junior welterweight.

pacquiao does not “need” to fight mayweather as much as mayweather needs the fight with pacquiao. the only motivation to fight mayweather is monetary… mayweather is not even a current champion; pacquiao’s legacy is allready cemented, mayweather is on the verge of being dismissed by history, especially if he picks another safe fight.

pacquiao vs. williams is interesting but that would ruin any chance of pacquaio /mayweather. if pacquiao beats williams (especially by ko), mayweather will avoid pacquaio at all costs. if pacquiao loses, the pacquiao will lose much of his bargaining clout and mayweather will then ask for a lopsided split eventually pricing himself out of the fight.

  • Ginger Don says:

Pacman’s camp didn’t originally want the march date, as Freddie Roach wanted more time to prepare Manny for Mayweather – now May might be out? it’s all hype

  • STOP Perez! says:

    Matthew Hatton Vs Bobby Pacquiao!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nepster says:

James – elections are in May, they are allowed to start campaigning in March which is why Pacquiao wants to fight Mayweather in March, so afterwards he can campaign. Mayweather doesn’t want to fight in March…why? I don’t know. He’ll go to England and fight Matthew Hatton, Dimitry Salita, or Carlos Quintana.

  • James says:

[LISTEN TO PAUL WILLIAMS TALK ABOUT FIGHTING AS A WELTERWEIGHT ONCE AGAIN]

He’s coming for you Manny! Mayweather and Williams want you!

  • James says:

“The Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Boxing Betting Odds give Pacquiao a 39% chance of winning”.

That is the only chance I see for Pacquiao winning vs. Mayweather! He will get literally destroyed. That’s why we have all of this election crap discussion appear all of a sudden.

Even if campaigning begins May 10th, (Liars) he can fight May 1st!

  • James says:

    Author, I agree… Our 2010 HBO Lineup!!!

    Mayweather fight Shane Mosely

    Pacquiao fight Paul Williams

    Marquez fight Amir Khan

    Hopkins fight Roy Jones

  • Peter says:

For Pacquiao, the Foreman fight isn’t about ducking. It’s about pursuing his good intentions to be help his countrymen by going into politics.

The May date might be off the table if he has to run against someone. Apparently, Arum says that if he goes unopposed, then a May date still might be possible.

I can’t say I know much about politics in the Philippines, but I hope it doesn’t drag him down. I’d like see him finish his boxing career before going into politics.

    Like they say:
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

I think he can help his countrymen more by being the best boxer he can be … we’ll have to see.

  • danny says:

    an 8th title is fun.

    go for it, manny.

  • noysmaykr says:

Thank you for calling the attention of Perez.

  • Jah Kul says:

Reason why Foreman is next up is because Fraud wants to fight somebody in the UK, before Pacman.

Master Trainer Freddie will not wait for Fraud to agree to fight MONEY Pacman.

  • Onin says:

lolz at the Manuela Perez part

  • jku says:

Their tune up fights I reckon. Well not Mayweather, he’s not going to fight. Pac wants to fight early thats why they gonna take foreman for a tune up and a title before taking on mayweather. Calm down guys.

  • don@london says:

Yuri Foreman is a pretty impressive fighter guys, check him out on youtube!

  • Jessica Simplementico says:

Sorry guys but Foreman KO’s Pacman inside 3 rounds, easy!!

  • 33 says:

actually, this is just maneuvers of each camps for a bigger slice but eventually when they are running out of time both will come to their senses and will settle for a 50-50.
this is just a simple math. the split is REALLY huge and both camps know this. Choosing a different opponent will jeopardize the already build up situation or shall i say that ALL SETTINGS are set and just the 2 characters need to face each other for the PERFECT STORM in boxing.
RELAX FOLKS!! DONT PANIC> STARS are aligned and the clash between two Heavenly Bodies will be inevitable.

  • Kris says:

Pac-Foreman makes a lot more sense than Floyd-Hatton

  • Yates says:

The idea behind fighting Foreman is that he’s undefeated, has a title, and punches about as hard as Malignaggi. If this fight happens, I predict Manny will come in at around 148-149 and allow Foreman to come in at 154. The physical risk for Pac is low since Yuri is feather-fisted.

  • Anonymous says:

    nepster – “Matthew Hatton”…..you what??

  • Ninja says:

YES! thank you for agreeing that Perez bashes Mr. Pacman!

  • stephen a says:

eamon, do not worry, roach and manny have already said they wudnt be moving up another weight, as far as i remember manny said ‘ it would be too much’

  • nepster says:

Let’s not forget Floyd Mayweather Vs. Matthew Hatton. Why are these two pound for pound guys even THINKING about fighting two bums?

  • Ancient_Silence says:

I also find the Hatton vs JMM matchup rather interesting despite what the so called fans say.
About this story of Manny fighting Yuri Foreman, well if it does happen it would slightly upset me off.Why on earth fight this guy which means fluctuating in weight ( ahh weight another topic hardly any casual fan understands ) heavier then lighter again for Floyd.
Also, people make a huge fuss when ol’ Money may cherry picks his bouts but if this fight goes down, Manny will definitely drop a few rungs in my personal ratings, why Manny?why Freddie, why?
