Manny Pacquiao: Is there any need to criticise him

pac43432By Peter Wells: It’s a horrible thing to read all these articles on this website, targeting Pacquiao to be a cheat, and a poor fighter. This man should be respected, he deserves it, and the likes of Manuel Perez and Liam Santiago really get under my skin. If you don’t like the guy then just keep it to yourself instead of telling us every week why you think he’s so rubbish. But in the real world, we real boxing fans know he is the best boxing in the world, and we all give him credit for him.

I’ll be honest I expected both Oscar and Ricky to beat Manny, and at first I had my doubts that Pacquiao would beat Miguel Cotto, but thank the lord, I was proved wrong. He is no doubt he is one of the greatest boxers ever to live, and if you think he is the best ever, I don’t mind, he has a totally different style to other greats, so they all are great in their own little way. I respect people if they support Mayweather if he fights Pacman next year, because I was obviously supporting Hatton for the same reasons- he’s your man of course.

I’m not a biast writer and like to see the best man win whether it’s one of my favourites fighting, and almost all the time I don’t I just want to see a good fight. With Manny if you don’t like him that’s your choice, whether it’s because he beat one of your favourite fighters or you just don’t like me for some reason then there is no need to criticize where there is no criticism needed. If you want to go and tell him he’s a terrible fighter, and then go and say it to his face instead of putting it on a boxing website.

He is only the 2nd person to stop Oscar De La Hoya, the other being Bernard Hopkins whom fought him at Middleweight. People criticised him because Oscar hadn’t fought at Welterweight for years, and was totally drained. Well go ask Oscar I he was drained or totally outclassed. I really respect fighters who admit that they were outclassed and fair play to De La Hoya.

Then Pacquiao knocks out Ricky Hatton in just 2 rounds with 3 knockdowns, and people say Ricky was drained. He had been fighting as a Light Welterweight for his whole career, and it was Manny coming down in weight. Finally Pacquiao beats Miguel Cotto, and as per usual is criticised for bringing Cotto down 2 pounds, which made no difference whatsoever.

Well once again just ask Cotto if he was drained, because to me he looked in superb shape at the weigh in, and he did have over a month more training, so there you have it. If that’s still not enough to convince those Pacquiao haters then just watch his fights before that, against Diaz and Morales and Marquez, then you’ll see why Pacquiao is the best boxer on the planet.

Mr. Peter Wells, thank you for being an objective writer.

    More power to you.

  • noysmaykr says:

Manuel Perez is a laughing stock BIG TIME.

He can’t defend his articles like a learned writer on the subjects he himself try to raise against Pacquiao.

Pls. note that he even used “I heard…”, “They said…” and then manipulate them together to make his own conclusions way beyond the truth.

Again, Manuel Perez IS a laughing stock BIG TIME.

  • Jay-z says:

I agree with you Peter! To Manuela Perez and Leamie Santiago if you don’t like the guy then just keep it to yourself instead of telling us every week why you think he’s so rubbish.

  • Richard says:

    Great article.
Hey Pacquiao is a great fighter. At this point only an idiot would disagree. Some people were able to see it before others. Win or loose from here on out, he has proven himself to the doubters. The haters just come from a place most people don’t want to go.
It is so boring when those non-writers come up with the same dribble every time. It is like turning on the radio to listen to static. First they are going to print a lie about something that is going on with PacMan. Next they comment on the lie. The uninformed are their audience.
If you want the truth all you have to do is look in the archives at their previous postings and you see that Perez in particular is always picking the looser in almost every fight. Perez in the under 20% range, and he gets to write on this site? Why read anything he writes until he can at least pick 50% of the fights correct…or just take his pick and go the other way and make it a payday.

  • On Pacman says:

To anyone who don’t think Pacman is an ATG….

Bert Sugar, Larry Merchant, Emmanuel Steward, and Freddie Roach all see Manny Pacquiao as an All-Time Great. This is what matters.

    Period.

  • Joe torez says:

Awesome article man…. way better than that loser perez

  • jojo hlahla says:

I knew him when he dethroned my countryman Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, and I didn’t like it. Instead of hating him I followed his career, guess what, I am addicted to watching him fight. To me he ranks among the all time greats, but the most entertaining boxer of any era. VIVA PACMAN AMANDLA!

  • Pacman says:

That’s why GOD give us a “Free Will” to choose where we want, choose what we want, and Who would like to be. After darkness then follows brightness. Pessimistic vs Optimistic. Right vs Left. Good vs Bad. Bias vs unbias. Haters vs Pro., God vs Satan.
In the end, there is only one to choose.

Manuel Perez is simply an a*$%o!@, don’t waste your time reading his idiotic, non-sense article. He’s been getting professional help as of this time.

  • Michael P says:

Mr. Wells you are such a gentleman and got balls for admitting you were wrong and skeptic about the ability of Pacman. How come those 2 idiots Liam Santiago & Manuel Perez Hilton kept hiding on their pussies?

Thanks, Mr. Wells… You’re a great man, knows how to accept the truth… God bless!

  • Shaider says:

Awesome analysis! Manuel Perez and Liam Santiago are inferior to you in boxing knowledge and logicality. They present hate and jealousy on their articles why you present fairness and intelligence. You are a true writer. Perez and Santiago is a disgrace to boxingnews 24. If we can have a vote, I am sure most fans here would vote them off to get fired.

Liam Santiago & Manuel Perez are part of Juan Manuel Marquez urine flava of the month club. All three are contaminated with each others urine. Santiago & Perez are so in love with Master Pee didi Marquez that they are both going in great lengths to discredit Pacman for defeating Marquez. This writer can’t get over it like someone had stolen something from them and they can’t stop crying. Grow up you Mexican fools your only discrediting your race….

Not nearly as good as floyd

Manny and Floyd are both great fighters in their own ways and style.

No one could get close to Floyd if he didn’t duck all the great fighters that he supposed to fight.

Manny get so much credit doing the other way by fighting the top fighter within the division he fought in.

  • Singha1 says:

youre one of the better writers on this site, unlike Steve Lewis, Manuela Perez and Gilturd…..

i don’t know if oscar was drained, but consider paul williams is 6′2 and he can fight at 147

MANUEL PEREZ IS SO STUPID, HE THINKS TACO BELL IS A PHONE COMPANY!

  • sporty says:

    @caveman, very well said.

nice article (mentioning liam and perez).

liam and perez probably the same person living on the street now coz they lost everything betting against pacquiao. that’s why they are bitterly insane :)

  • George says:

THANK YOU FOR BEING UNBIASED, AND CIVILIZED. POINTING TO THE 2 DRUG ADDICTS, SANTIAGO AND PEREZ WHO ARE THE DIRT OF THE EARTH. BUT, THAT’S THE BEST COMPLIMENT I CAN GIVE THEM. IF MORE WRITERS DO POINT THE GOOD AND THE BAD OF ANY FIGHTERS, WE CAN ALL LIVE WITH THAT.

  • GrampaSmith says:

“stephen a: for all those who think size is gona matter forget it, de la hoya is BIGGER than floyd and manny destroyed him with ease.”

these are exactly the kind of stupid fans that make manny an easy target.

  • pacu says:

not nearly with floyd…tell you tommy they always say that to manny everytime he fight his next opponent.and what is the outcome?i guess you know the answer.wait till the two fighters meet inside the ring and clash…by the way well said peter.

  • Josh says:

    L. Santiago and M. Perez are nonesense combo, two foolish blindsided-narrow minded writers who probably graduated at Mayweather Sr. Academy of Bigmouths and Emptyheads. But there’s a place for these two desperate LOSERS,…’HALL of SHAME’, a place for mentally retarded writers.

  • JosephBTS says:

Nice words. But you cannot stop Perez and Santiago criticizing a grat fight like Manny Pacquiao, they’re like a couple of jilted lovers, they hate their man to the bones, no matter what. I also have my doubts, when Pacquiao faced dela Hoya, Hatton and Cotto, I never expected Manny to win it that easy, but he did it. I think the only 2 person who really knew that he could win those fights were Coach Freddie Roach and Manny himself. Lets just hope the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight could really happen next year, cause I also my doubts that it won’t.

  • roi says:

IM STILL WAITING FOR MR MANUEL PEREZ THE RACIST OF THE 3RD WORLD PEOPLE TO STEP DOWN AS PROMISED WHEN COTTO LOST FROM PACQUIAO. THIS MR MANUEL PEREZ DOESNT HAVE THE DECENCY AND WORD OF HONOR TO RESIGN.PLEASE MR MORON QUIT YOUR JOB AND JUST WRITE CARTOON CLIPS OR SOAP OPERA.. BE A MAN..
AS FOR MR LIAM SANTIAGO HIS PROBABLY ANOTHER PROTEGE OF MR MANUEL PEREZ WHO GOT THE MORON BRAIN. GOD BLESS YOU TO RESIGN…..

great article. not bias. thanks mr. wells

  • caveman says:

Remember, WW division is between 141 lbs and 147 lbs. If a champion cannot defend his title with these weights, then don’t fight at this weight level. Fighting beween those numbers is a legitimate fight. Also, Mayweather contracted Marquez @ 145 lbs, but he came in at 146 lbs and it was a legitimate fight, for it was between 141 and 147 lbs. Bottom line, Marquez do not belong in this division at all! If he wants a trilogy with Pacquiao, then he needs to move up to WW again. He cannot fight at this level. He will get hurt or even end his boxing career. Ask DLH and Hatton:)

  • Gambit922 says:

All these talks about who is ducking who and which fighter will outbox, outsmart, or outrun the other are all good and dandy. But, honestly, how do you determine what is the truth when half of the writers are in favor of one fighter while the other half are against. For me, I’ll skip all these so-called predictions and just simply wait for that bell to ring to signify the start of the first round.
By the way, when it comes to predictions, I’ll stick to the one made by the greatest prognosticator of all time, my man, Nostradamus. He said, “… and 2 stars will collide by mid 2010, the smaller one ripping thru the bigger one and the bigger star is no more while the smaller one continues its path to bring more destruction to other stars lingering on its path…”

  • DBeals says:

Manny is effective with his style. Floyd is effective with his style. Something has to give come March 13th. I can’t wait. I like watching both fighters. In this fight I can see lots of similarities with Leonard vs Duran I.

  • stephen a says:

    smashing article there peter, flawless

  • Swinger says:

Comes with fame and success, look at all the diatribe against Mayweather on this site…far worse!

  • dudessssss20 says:

what happen here is, people love boxers and not boxing! If there boxer beat by the other boxer there get mad and got suck! men learn to appriciate men.

  • LC says:

2 pounds is just another excuse. These are grown man. Cotto did not have to fight Pacquaio at 145, but he did. While Floyd have ducked him for years and why the reason he retired in the first place…..

  • ROY says:

dont think manny in the mood for fighting. sound silly, but to understand pac way of training its 4 x as hard as any fighters, you have to take a vacation, too get that hunger again, that feeling again I want to kick some butts. Its a mental things first, or you not going train hard enough.
manny hasnt taken that vacation yet as the election things has much to do too.dont let bob say it could not come about again, bob loves money any time or place.screw bob….fight later when you want is fine…..

  • FairBoxing says:

Better article compare to Liam and and Perez. I always wonder why Liam Perez always love to put down Manny and the Filipinos. I have read numerous article from Liam Perez on how they are ashame of Manny and his Filipino followers. Not knowing that all Manny’s followers are all Filipinos. Also, they criticise other nationality who are proud of Manny. They have so much hatred to Manny and all Manny’s followers.

    Rhys Says:
    “Not a great article.
2 pounds can be a BIG difference.
Oscar said he was weight drained. Even roach said he seen injections where he was struggling.” –> you’re talking like it so easy to do what he has done moving up. I don’t see any featherweight or even lightweight going up to fight the big boys. Even the great mexicans (barrera, morales, sotto, marquez) don’t just move up. Marquez tried but we all know what happened to that one. Just learn to appreciate and give credit to the Pacman. You won’t see one again coming from 106lbs. or even coming from 122-126. Boy got skills.

  • Orlando says:

Being objective when someone writes and admits that he previously doubt a fighter then accepts that that fighter is currently the best fighter on the planet after proving it by knocking out his opponents … for me, this is a good article.

  • Jerome says:

“If that’s still not enough to convince those Pacquiao haters then just watch his fights before that, against Diaz and Morales and Marquez, then you’ll see why Pacquiao is the best boxer on the planet.” –> Yup, there’s a lot of people who just started following the Pacman when he fought DeLaHoya. What haters don’t understand is that he’s been a great fighter already back then when he fought the division with all the great Mexicans (which is not even long ago). He became a household name when he fought DLH but he was already a hall of famer even before that. I remember watching him way back in 2001. He was like a mini Mike Tyson knocking fools out and just charging.

  • Gerry says:

Thanks for your writing. Coming from another writer like you, criticizing Mr. Perez and Mr. Santiago means a lot to the boxing readers. I agree that you can write about your predictions and that everybody is entitled to his own opinion but the way those 2 writers write is close to being a hate crime. It is really so bizarre to have that kind of criticism that people even suggested that it is racism because the main element is hate and not facts and logical reasoning. We do not need those kind of people anywhere. They do exist though and that is reality.

  • Rhys says:

    So meh…
He is a great fighter. One of best ever, no chance.
