Macklin defeats Pintos
By Sean McDaniel: European Boxing Union middleweight champion Matthew Macklin (26-2, 18 KO’s) easily defeated Rafael Sosa Pintos (34-5, 13 KO’s) by a 10 round decision on Saturday night at the National Stadium, in Dublin, Ireland. Referee Emile Tiedt scored the bout 99-88 in Macklin’s favor. Macklin, 27, knocked Pintos down four separate times in the one-sided bout.
In the 3rd and 4th round, Macklin hammered Pintos at will with hard punches to the head and midsection treating him like a sparring partner. In the 5th round, Macklin knocked Pintos down at the start of the round with a tremendous right hand to head. In the 7th, Macklin hit Pintos with a hard right to the midsection that put him down again. Late in the same round, Maclin knocked Pintos with a right to the head.
In rounds eight through ten, Macklin, now looking somewhat tired, dominated the fight with his jab and steady combinations. Pintos wasn’t able to offer up much resistance other than a shot here and there which did nothing to slow Macklin down.
