Khan-Campbell Is One Of Many Possibilities For Khan’s Future
By Peter Wells: After Amir Khan’s fantastic 1st round stoppage of Dmitriy Salita has now opened the doors to a new world of fights. I expected Amir to stop Salita after 7 rounds, not 1, and that was a spectacular display of power and speed, absolutely breath taking. I can say that Khan’s move up to Light Welterweight is the best move of his career, and now there are so many fighters he can chose from, the world is his oyster. But with so many challenges, he is sure to slip up somewhere, that’s why it’s not a good idea to put him in with the elite fighters of the 140lb division just yet.
The fight I think would be the best option is against veteran former Lightweight king Nate Campbell, the Galaxy Warrior is past his best and can be overwhelmed by speed and body shots as Timothy Bradley showed, who is another possibility for the future if he gets past Lamont Peterson. Nate Campbell has only had one fight at Light Welterweight were he had a no-contest with Timothy Bradley. Nate was under serious pressure before a head clash caused a nasty cut over Campbell’s left eye. The referee called the fight off at the end of the 3rd ruling it a TKO victory for Bradley. It was later changed to a no-contest, but it wasn’t going to last long though as Campbell was looking in serious trouble. I’d like Khan to fight Campbell; it would be a big fight if he thought in America and if he stopped Campbell who has only been stopped twice from his five defeats. It would send out an even bigger statement to the world and would maybe set out a bout with Timothy Bradley.
There are other possibilities in Paulie Malignaggi or Juan Diaz; he could fight the winner or the loser because they are both decent fighters who would also send out a statement if he beat them. Then theirs the Hatton fight, which is still a possibility, but a fight I wouldn’t be interested in as a big boxing fan, but it would sell big time. Also there is Marcos Maidana who stopped big hopeful Victor Ortiz and would be a huge risk for Khan, but it has to happen. There are also Kendall Holt or World Boxing Council champ Devon Alexander, and another good fight would be against Ricardo Torres who is no doubt past his best.
If there are any more fighters out there for Khan please add them, there are many more that could be worth a thought.

Spot on MIKE iv only been saying it for 2 years
Im not an overnight expert and neither am I a muslim extremist which by the way I find highly offensive, the fact of the matter is you guys will never give khan any credit what so ever hes 22 years old and a world champion in boxing its part of the education fighting what u mite call B level fighters everyone has done it, when he hits hes peak in abt 2 years he will fight them all. So what if hes making money good luck to him.
KAM- What do u know about boxing other than amir khan? Your just another muslim extremist overnight expert from what i can gather so until you have any valid points to make about the topic or boxing in general and not just blindly following khans every move without knowing what u are talking about i suggest you close your trap.
About being sad and bitter? not at all, i get my enjoyment from watching real deserving fighters step up and prove thier worth and remain realistic while doing so. Id rather watch tim bradley, or paul williams anyday over money made frauds like amir khan, and thats why i didnt watch the fight idiot.
If he fights paulie mallignaggi next in america il respect him for that…but i dont think so
I think khan will be fighting Diaz next after he beats Malignaggi because if you check the WBA rankings the winner will probably be his next mandatory, and it will suit him facing Diaz because he is similar size and style to Pac.
Hmm.. i think the victory of khan versus Salita is just lucky of khan. khan is not as good as Marquez. khan is younger and the tactic when he fight salita it just a lucky blow.
what is wrong with you i said for ages he ant got a chin and i carnt belive you lot saying amir would beat hatton how can you say that what hatton has acomplished i say let them fight and we will see hatton would smash him easy and then it would shut you all up hatton onley lost to the very best and thats it just wait and see
I think Murray, Malignaggi would be good also if he is fighting in America Zab Judah would be a good option.
I think a fight with Hatton has been ruled out.
Im not the bitter one when theres people on this website who nickname themselves as KHAN HATER there the sad ones. And there the ones who will never khan any credit, im not a chump cos i dont hate anyone.
@ KAM
People are allowed to like and dislike which fighters they want to. You are the one that sounds like a chump. When Khan fights some decent fighters he will get the credit he deserves, until then you should just shut the f*&K up!
OLI AND KHAN HATER YOUR THE REAL SAD BITTER ONES AROUND. I BET U BURN WHEN U SEE KHAN HOLD THAT WORLD TITLE UP, GOOD COS UR GONA BE BURNING FOR A LONG TIME COS KHAN IS HERE TO STAY
ITS A SHAME TO SEE THE BITTERNESS PEOPLE STILL HAVE ABT KHAN. ALL U KHAN HATERS ARE THE REAL CHUMPS IN LIFE. WE WATCH BOXING COS IT CAN GENERATE EXCITEMENT AND ELECTRICITY AND KHAN IS DOING THAT, IF U DONT LIKE HIM CHANGE THE CHANNEL IDIOTS.
to joe , maidana was robbed by a home decsision to kotelnik,
To khanhater get a life just keep watching The Khan he will rule the world!
Hatton should stay retired because he will lose bad against Khan. I say Marquez or bradley. Khan’s speed, and power will be to much for both i think. The speed of Khan is awsome, and the left hook at the end to finish salita off was similar to the one Floyd put Marquez down with. Amir is faster then Floyd and pac and is a one hell of a sparring partner for Manny against Floyd.
Maidana is next in line for Khan he must fight him Khan will win Maidana, he is a hard punsher but no real boxing skill. After Maidana Khan must take on Marquez and i believe Khan will wi also.Marquez is too slow and weak above 135 pounds.I think Khan will Tko Marquez with in 8 rounds his past his prime and peolpe will also see this if he takes on Hatton
I TAKE BACK EVERYTHING I HAVE SAID ABOUT AMIR. HE WAS GOOD FAST AND WILL BE A GREAT. STILL NEEDS TO FIGHT PRESCOTT SO THAT HE CAN ALWAYS SAY HE AVENGED THE ONLY DEFETE ON HIS RECORD.
Khan had to fight salita as mandatory contender.
we will see
To win any world championship by 22 is very rare although admittedly kotelnic wasn’t the best of champions. Very few fighters get that far so young and that does say something other than simply clever management.
Khan may not be the most powerful puncher but his accuracy makes up for it to some extent, plus he’s only 22 – he’ll punch way harder by 25 and harder still by 30. Look at how much pacquiao’s power has improved since Roach got hold of him. Khan’s living the life now – he’ll only get better.
Mr rich- Thats a very good point about khans power, he doesnt have any, gomez said it and barera said it.
Everyone needs to calm down…he beat another absolute chump who didnt have a prayer and thats all it was. Yeah he looked good but he was SUPPOSE to when the opposition was this pathetic.
As far as the next opponant goes, whoever is the slowest, weakest at the moment, oldest and most past it big ish name…thats who will be next. So it actually could be nate campbell but even that is asking too much
A good performance by Khan but what has it really proved? He did what he had to do and thats all that can be asked. But keep in mind that anyone can get caught with a punch, Khan has proved that. Salita took a big shot too early in the round and just never recovered, so we still are not sure what Khan is capable of and if his chin is any better at light welterweight. He looks sharp, faster, but he was fighting a guy that nobody expected to win anyway.
The writer is wrong when he says that Khan shouldnt mix it with the elite fighters at the moment, he is a champion now and should prove himself against the best.
Also people should consider that Khan hit Salita with some huge bombs but Salita kept getting up…. That shouldnt happen if you are a huge puncher, so maybe he aint as powerfull as everyone thinks he is.
Maidana is rubbish stylistically – predictable and poor footwork. Punches hard admittedly but he’s only rated as he beat Ortiz who was arguably overrated anyway and who certainly doesn’t seem to have the heart necessary to make it at world level. Ortiz had Maidana under pressure in that fight then submitted later and his ring comments afterwards were revealing. Khan would beat Maidana easily on last night’s form. If Ortiz could get through Khan will, only more often and harder. I reckon Roach will go after Maidana as everyone will want to fight Khan when he wins. A pacman in the making – Roach must be thinking himself very lucky right now.
Maidana lost to kotelnik lol
I know it was close but Khan won every round against Kotelnik
maidana will be the king at 140 remember it!, maidana is a mandatory fight for khan and i think they should sign the contract before 90 days starting now, if khan don’t fight maidana, el chino will be the champ!
If it was anybody else other than Khan who had done that in such style last night we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. His accuracy is so very sharp now – even in the small 76 seconds he gave us, it was clear he’s improving incredibly. Just like pacquiao did under Roach. Roach will put him into big fights now guaranteed. He could stop anybody quickly if he fought like he did last night unless they hit him hard early on. Quicker than both Floyd and Pacman and that was what was so impressive about the victory – his speed and accuracy make him really tough for anyone to face now and Roach knows it.
khans defence is a lot better than when h got beat by prescott, this is a new khan with a tight defence, he can execute a game plan, his legs are stroonger and roach has done a quality job with him, khan would give bradley, maidana and campbell a very good fight. prescott, what would bethe point of wastin time fighting him.
Look guys… Khan is 22 years of age.
He is world champion and a hell of a puncher with amazing speed. Surely this is why we like boxing right? Because of exciting young guys like this.
khan should fight pacman for real
the comment above me is the most un organised piece of text i have ever read. it has given me a headache
you all se campbells last fight put him in with berto on about multi weights speed kills bradley would batter khan malagnaggi would school khan as well
Campbell would be a bit of a lose-lose for Khan, given Campbell’s age. Malignaggi would be a decent fight, as would Juan Diaz. I think Khan could beat either of those, as Malignaggi isn’t known for KO power, & we’ve seen Diaz can struggle against fast opposition, from the Paulie fight. Thing is, if Khan picks his opponents too carefully he’ll always be the recipient of criticism about choosing opponents who don’t risk exposing his weakness; ie his chin. Note that I say weakness, not weaknesses.
Personally, I think Hatton would achieve little for Khan, especially if he lost, as many would consider Hatton ’shot’.
Options then? I think any of the rest of the above could be decent challenges, given the right preparation. What’s important to remember is that Khan is still young, still learning, and for the stage he’s at he’s showing great promise.
A possible list of khans next opponents, n trust me hatton gunna stay in retirement after watching this! lol
1)Hatton
2)Marquez
3)Bradley
4)Maidana
5)Ortiz
6)Alexander devon
7)prescott/mitchell
8)Murray
9)Malignaggi
10)zab judah?
who would you like to see khan fight?
Good Article
Nate Campbell win would do nothing for Khan people would just say he was shot
Want Khan to fight Maidana to shut few people up to show he can deal with big punchers and maybe take a few shots
Holt, T Bradley, Maidena will all stop Khan by KO.
Khan is a good fighter going forward but what was that garbage last night? Salita 30 – 0??? Wtf who has that guy beat guy beat? Anyway Khan was good & I suppose he had to fight Salita! Will he re-match Prescott even though he lost to Mitchell or will he fight Maidena next? I still think Khan would get Ko’d by Prescott if he fights him again, Mitchell’s chin was impressive when Prescott rarely landed on him! But I think Khan is always going to be waiting to get Ko’d against big punchers. I think Khan could stop Hatton if he decided to meet him soon.
