Khan beats another soft opponent – when will he fight someone good?

khan33By Liam Santiago: Let me get one thing very straight. Dmitriy Salita is one of the weakest light welterweight fighter’s I have ever seen in my entire life. That includes all journeymen, not just champions and challengers. I was in hysterics listening to the sky pundits Glen McCory and Jonny Nelson hyping Salita like he was the next Marciano. Now we will have to listen to World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s rants about becoming the best pound for pound fighter in the world and so on.

That first right hand that knocked Salita down was a soft ‘pitter patter’ shot. I, personally, would have laughed at that punch and so would the 59 other light welterweights who are ranked above Salita by Boxrec. It was a poor, poor punch. But, now every single sports journalist who thinks they know something about boxing will claim Khan is the next Ali etc. Wrong again. By my theory, if you beat bums (such as Salita and Fagan), you are a bum yourself. Would John Murray have fell over like Salita did? Absolutely never. Ricky Hatton would have laughed at those punches from Khan. Remember not all fighters fall over as soon as they take a punch. I am still mythed at how Salita managed to become the no.1 contender for Khan’s title as he is ranked 60th by boxrec.

Many of the customers who pay to see Khan are not actual boxing fans. Many of them are just Khan fans so when he knocks out a guy like Salita in 3 seconds or whatever it was, they all think he is the second coming. It is only when he steps up to fight a real tough guy like John Murray that we will really know how good he is. Murray won’t fall over when he is hit and he won’t just stand on the ropes and let Khan hit him.

Marcos Maidana is the next no.1 challenger for Khan’s title so I expect Khan to vacate that now and fight a super featherweight or another semi retired old legend like Erik Morales. Don’t expect him to take the real lions on like Maidana, Murray or Bradley.

In my opinion, Sky Sports need to really think about changing their pundits. Glen McCory and Johnny Nelson hyped Salita like he was the second coming. They said he was the biggest test of his career blah blah blah. If they had a guy like Steve Bunce in their, he would tell it like it is.

Good point that! Salita was a bum but whats Khan to do, he fought the mandatory challenger! You also make a valid point abou tthe sky pundits they did over hype Salita like he was half decent.

Talking about valid point i can see ‘Stevo’ made one, what on earth are you still doing here Mr Santiago?? You have the nerve to criticise the sky pundits after your ‘brave’ prediction on the Cotto-Paqman fight?

  • carl says:

khan wont get any respect till he earns respect by beating someone who can box end of story

  • Floyd Dominates says:

Absolutely 100% correct Liam Santiago! They have to be careful when they match Khan because if they put him in with even the most marginal puncher he might get ice’d! Put him in with Maidana or Ortiz. I hope the Brit’s don’t pin their hopes on this China chinned flash in the pan becuase there’s a lot of guys in that division who would end his career right now. Try Kendall Holt on for size! I didn’t think so, Roach!

  • carl says:

imagine khan against cotto berto mosely ha ha ha he wouldnt last!

  • carl says:

bang on artical real boxing fans know boxing khan hasnt fought anyone just nobodys and boxers past there best the sky pundits make me sick how they big up khan so what hif he at to fight salita they still bragged about salita saying hes dangerous which was a joke soon as he fights a boxer who can box khan will be gone joke champion¬

  • Anonymous says:

59 other welterweights? It was light-welter you so called expert!

  • don@london says:

I think people should lay off Khan a bit as he is just getting started at world level and has plenty of time left before taking on the big boys but in fairness it does wind me up when he is spoken of as the next Ali, mayweather e.t.c as he hasn’t proven anything yet and as for his rant to the papers the other day saying if he was white then he would be a superstar by now, that’s it for me as it’s not his colour that is holding me back it’s his lack of fighting hard opponents and constant referring to himself in the third person!

  • Scotty says:

It was in the contract with the fight with Koletnik, that the winner must defend against Salita.

I can imagine you watching the fight. Screaming at the TV “God, please get up Salita!”, “Ref Khan is hitting him, that’s illegal!”, “Khan should be disqualified as he is the wrong color” etc. etc. etc.

I bet you were sobbling like a rape victim after it was all said and done!

  • Andrew Evans says:

I think that Salita was better than he looked and was just unlucky to have got KO’d. What happened to Khan when he fought Precott? I think Khan is an excellent boxer destined for great things and yet a lot of idiots were writing him off. Just because he was knocked sensless from an excellent combination, that he admits he never even saw, doesn’t make him a crap fighter. I noticed he was American before the fight and now from Ukrainean. How fickle some people are.

  • Oli says:

Hes won a world belt and got a mandatory (if u accept that) out of the way. There can be no more excuses now, so what hes 22? Is he or is he not old enough to fight at world level make up your minds. The next fight will defininatly tell us if hes a fraud or not. It HAS to be Holt, Bradley, Alexander, Peterson, Mallignaggi, diaz, maidana, next. Anything else is clearly cherry picking.

And Forget marquez coz hes past his best, coming off a bad loss and is NOT a light welterweight

  • 1 boxer says:

you made alittle sense but you,re still pathetic, u and you two buddies perez and gilfoid

  • Jimi says:

In Pacquiaos 22nd fight he fought a Guy called Magramo (23-12). Barrera fought Rosario (14-8). Morrales fought Cargle (3-59). So you’re telling us Khan has no business going in with a Guy who’s 30-0?

    Laughable article.

  • mp productions says:

PEOPLES let this RETARD keep writing even tho he PROMISED he wouldn’t anymore. PAC’S victories wouldn’t be the same w/o him and his BFF perez.

  • chef says:

LIAR LIAR LIAR… BE A MAN OF YOUR WORDS… PALABRA DE HONOUR…GIVE UP WRITTING COTTO LOSSE AND HE IS MAN ENOUGH TO SAY PACMAN WON FAIR AND SQUARE…LIAR LIAR LIAR..YOU GOT NO INTRIGTY LIAR LIAR LIAR

  • Sugar Ray Robinson says:

Liam Santiago and Manuel Perez have a crush on Freddie Roach. Too bad Freddie like only real girls.

  • Rodel says:

I noticed u hate boxers from other counties except the us. ur a racist writer not bcoz pacman and khan r foreigners u have the right to lynch them in ur articles.

  • tanvir says:

LIAM it is mandatory that u give up writing from now on.

  • tanvir says:

LIAm it is mandator that u give up writing frm now on.

  • MANUELA PEREZA says:

Liam Santiago – you don’t have a word of honor, you said before that you will not write anymore if Cotto will lose to Pacquiao, but what are you doing now? you are writing a garbage again

  • Slapfest says:

    Santiago, your funny breh!

  • mini bunce says:

liam you need to stop writing cos you aint got a clue.
    MANDATORY,

  • No1JimmyWilde says:

michael and liam, murrays a lightweight who has only just got a european title fight ahead of him, khans is so fast, speed is power, speed kills, KHAN IS GOING TO BE ONE OF THE BEST P4P FIGHTERS AROUND BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR, accept it the guy has bags of talent

  • KAM says:

KHAN WOULD SERIOUSLY DAMAGE RICKY HATTON

  • American Boxing Fan says:

Seems like Khan was in a no win situation. He gets trashed talked for beating his mandatory by the dimwit writer of this article. And the r-e-t-a-r-d has the balls to call his fans ignorant. Dude get the queens boot out of your a-s-s.

  • Martin says:

Salita was the mandatory challenger so if post fight you feel the previously unbeaten Salita was not up to the task you should ask the WBA why he was the no 1 contender.

  • John,e says:

There loads praising Khan on here but who’s he’s fought of any merit so far!!!!! don’t get me wrong he,s got good skills but is still unproven he hasn’t been in with any body bar prescott who can bang and until he fights better quality fighters and prove he can mixes with the top rank men he will keep getting criticise,he is his own worst enemy with some of the delusional rubbish he come out with every time he’s interviewed, and i,m sick of hearing he’s only 22 give it a rest.

  • Khabuto Khu says:

you can’t accept that Roach is the best trainer.

  • Scotty says:

The fight was what it would be like if Hatton fought Khan.
Salita managed to get up from the floor but I wouldn’t be shocked in Hatton was counted out in 20 secs flat.

  • nadeem says:

how can u say he is crap ur a crap bollucks writer move to another sport maybe hockey. did u see the speed he was hitting they say 5 punch a sec .and for ricky hatton he would get battered he is not a true fighter more like a boozer and pie man.

  • HAHAHA says:

You loser. Why are you always against coloured boxers? you white d1ck head. go suck coc and stop writing articles

  • quasi says:

come on now! he’s only 22.

  • luke says:

there is no way khan would beat hatton

  • Baldo Baldado says:

beside liam mentioned that he will never write an article again….. what’s up man… stick to your promise!

  • Baldo Baldado says:

    i agree with Steven Wain!

  • scotsman says:

lets just get one thing straight……….i am no khan fan. he has speed granted but to me, thats it.

but lets sort this out. this was a mandatory challenger. Khan had no choice but to fight him or be stripped pf the title. this was no cherry picked fight. Although i do agree with oli that sometimes the challenges can be side stepped this was the WBA tellin Amir who to fight……….lets see if he steps up and takes on better fighters in next few fights.

This will be the makin of Khan or the breakin of him.

  • Anonymous says:

If liam thinks he knows about boxing more than those who gave credit to Khan for knocking Salita out, can you explain to me why every Pacquiao’s fight he predicted on , LIAM WAS WRONG?

  • Andrew Evans says:

Mr Santiago, you don’t seem to be the sharpest pencil in the box. A KO like Khan gave Salita is through jolting the brain probably caused by the combination of jolting one way and then the other. When you hit a 6 at cricket it is the timing and not the exertion put into the stroke. Maybe if you played golf you might also understand this.

  • Oli says:

End of the day mandatories can be sidestepped, it happens all the time. You fight your mandatory when u want an easy fight and thats what they did.

Amir khan has STILL done nothing so calm down khan bummers. Lets see who he fights next il bet money its not what we want to see.

  • Oli says:

The old mandatory excuse…someone tell me then the last time ricky hatton fought a mandatory? Carl frochs first mandatory was jermain taylor and that fight wasnt going thru until froch had to force it thru, so dont give me alkl this crap about it being a mandatory, coz khans people were gald it a mandatory so they can keep fighting nobodys AGAIN.

He beat salita as expected…so what? Fight someobody who means something and isnt slow weak or old and lets see how good u really are. You have fought nobody still

  • Anonymous says:

very harsh but some truth in this article khan needs to step up now and fight a real contender and should be taking on the top guys in the division after another 2 or 3 fights if he keeps winning

  • Kris says:

Give Khan some time. He fought Kotelnik FOR the belt. His first defense was against Salita. Now he can go for the other champs like Bradley, Urango, etc.

  • sinky says:

salita is garbage. never fought any1 good cant beleive he was the mandatory challenger. khan needs a serious apponent now will he get it doubt it. he’s 2 chinny. lol

  • del boy says:

im not a kahn fan but i have to give the lad credit he did a fantastic job.

  • stephen a says:

khan has to fight miadana next or give up the belt, he wont give up the belt, he likes being world champ too much

  • Simon says:

Ok lets get one thing striaght, Salita shuld not have been mandorty wew know this but he was still an unbeaten fighter and cant take that away from him. Khan had to beat what was infront of him and he did. Also jonny nelson and glen mccroy have to big salita up because they are selling thje fight for sky

  • john says:

Liam hate pacquaio and khan as the two been trained by roach.. he hate pacquiao in the first place.

  • Anonymous says:

    DIRRELL bang on well said

  • JD says:

There is no such word as “mythed”. The word you were trying for is “miffed”. So now we know you nothing about two subjects, English and boxing. Not only do you not know anything about the subject you are writing about, you barely know how to write at all.

  • milosands says:

Khan is 22 – why all the hate for a blistering puncher with astounding speed?

He did what he had to do. Simple as that

  • KAM says:

LIAM S MUMS FA NNY STUNK

  • riaz says:

fo god sake, it was a madatory defence. don’t blame Khan and his camp, blame the WBA for having poor fighter ranked as the number one challanger

  • Graham says:

    lol such a bad writer

  • Rocky says:

I am very very sure i saw on this very website somebody writing an article saying khan will dodge salita and all that nonsence!now he beats him people call salita soft lol yeah he was soft khan made him soft! i have lost so much respect for this website it is unbelieveable.

All these idiots who talk about people dodging people dont no anything about boxing! Boxing isnt a school playground where kids just fight each other to find out who is the hardest, boxing is a business. So either grow up or go watch MMA

  • paul says:

Yeah we are the traumatised morons who see an England flag and start wanking… get a grip people will give credit even if Khan over reaches and fails they won’t give credit for fight dodging albeit that this was mandatory. To claim someone has had a “traunatic” childhood because they don’t share your opinion is a bit of a get out because you obviously can’t bring to bare facts to back up the idea that Khan is some sort of super boxer, he is well trained, fit and fast but not proven

  • QwertyKeyboard says:

santiago , i doubt you even paid for the fights so stop complaining , you seem to love backing one dimensional fighters like hatton and murray and disregard obviously more talented fighters like khan

  • Gerry says:

Liam Santiago and Manuel Perez hate Pacquiao and Khan and Freddie Roach. These writers do not give credit where it is due because of their “crab” mentality – if somebody succeeds, boxer or trainer, one tries to pull them down for no reason but envy. ‘If I do not succeed why should others’. These guys probably had a traunatic childhood experience and sometimes its tragic and its not really their fault. If this is the case with these 2 writers, we have to cut them some slack. This may seem the logical solution for these pitiful people. Let’s give them our unconditional understanding and support. Its tragic.

  • Mike says:

Well i paid for it and i watch most fights. Ever thought fight fans were interested in the mitchell fight???? So that makes me a fool that doesn’t know anything about boxing? Khan did an excellent job and hopefully will move on to bigger and better things.

  • Anonymous says:

wasnt khan at the olmypics with berto i mean turned pro sametime and berto has not had half the money behind him how long as berto had his belt oh yeah who is berto defending his title against stop making excuses for khans age and learning abilities

  • Rob says:

If you want respect it then earn it. Fight one of the following…

Juan Manuel Marquez, Joan Guzman, Edwin Valero, Michael Katsidis, John Murray, Kevin Mitchell, Timothy Bradley, Nate Campbell or Juan Diaz

  • josh says:

onece again another idiot with limited boxing knowledge shouts his mouth about khan. MANDATORY end of

  • Rob says:

THANK YOU, does my head in all these people who see a quick Khan KO and think he is the next Manny Pacquaio. His career is littered with soft opponents and more notably blown up Super Featherweights.

  • Onin says:

you’re a sad man… all i needed to read is the title of the article and i knew it’s all crap… i feel sorry for you… get a life! oh… i thought you’d retire?

  • Anonymous says:

LOL Liam your in soooo much pain arent u buddy

  • AnthonyW says:

Salita was the mandatory, so Khan had no choice but to face him. If Khan chose not to fight Salita, he would no doubt have been stripped of the title. You obviously know very little about boxing.

  • the REAL deal says:

does freddie roach remind anyones else of the professer in the hulk

  • lance says:

hey everyone dont blame liam for this bull, his gf left him coz he couldnt get it up… kinda feel sorry for him.

the only thing i feel u say is right is the fact tht salita was a soft opponent kotelnik wudnt have had a problem with him. As for murray hahaha u mean the guy who was gifted a decision against a part time boxer who sells ice cream for a living? liam u really are a comedian… but sadly the only reason u get to write articles is that alot of people get to reply to ur nonsense… well i for one am going to avoid reading ur articles in the future and the rest should follow suit
    peace

  • Joe Neale says:

He had to fight him!!! (Salita)

And why is everyone moaning he is 22 and there taking there time I think gradually they will get good fights

  • paul says:

“Let Khan hit you with a right hand”

I’m not a proffessional…so probably the ideal opponent for his next fight. Joking aside i do think he is technically a good boxer, defensively better than say a Ricky Hatton but you need more than that, when ever an opponents intro is started by “he’s a fighter many of you won’t know much about” theres usually a reason…

  • Blueajax says:

Just full of craft. Khan is much more better boxer now under freddie roach, just like pacquiao, he will the next p4p king after the pacman.

Give the guy a break and let see what he can achieve for the sake of boxing.

    go!go!go! Khan.

  • Dennis Broadhurst says:

Let Khan hit you with a right hand

  • paul says:

Completely agree. Obviously there is incentive for SKY to hype Amir Khan he is a draw, any British anything is. But history judges fighters by their opponents it’s why Ali and both Sugar Rays cast such wonderful shadows over the sport. Watch Manny for a good boxer watch Khan for a delluded protected boxer. In any sport if you face poor opposition it is not preperation for good opposition and in boxing. All flash and no substance. I don’t like Hatton, 3rd person speaker, but he had bottle and got beat by better boxers and admitted as much, fair play.

  • Tim says:

I agree but want to add that to be fair to Khan you can only beat who is put in front of you and he did that pretty well last night!

    In Bunce we trust.

  • R.L says:

MANDATORY…. Just accept amir khan is really good you loser.

  • 5565 says:

this website is a trash website, racist losers

  • Lewis dalton says:

Wow, do you actually realise that it was MANDATORY (meaning he HAS to fight him) I would like to see him fight somebody better, Amir would destroy hatton. Personally i think Bradley would be a great fight for Amir, but yeah. Don’t chat when you dont know.

  • andre dirrell says:

slightly harsh but i agree with you to some extent, i’d love to see him fight john murray or hatton but i think maidana would also be a great fight. it does seem bizarre that salita was his mandatory when he was ranked 60th. khan needs stiffer challenges, and when he does have them his talent will shine through. steam rollering nobodies doesnt showcase his talent at all

  • john says:

haha your just pathetic like gilfoid.. and you both have no boxing knowledge at all… salita was a mandatory defence… and look at the age of khan.. i personally never used to like khan.. but since the loss to prescott he as matured into a great fighter under the guidence of freddie roach.. and khan will become 1 of the best p4p in the future thats is a fact..

  • Glen says:

Why do you always waste your time saying crap about khan? Get a life man.

  • mickeymarley says:

    yeah lol whatever, comedy

Great night of boxing for boxing fans

  • tae says:

    trash writter!!!
