Joe Gallagher: Khan should stop playing the race card

By Liam Santiago: Well known and respected boxing trainer, Joe Gallagher, believes that King Amir Khan should stop playing the race card. King Khan recently made a comment to the press stating that if he was white, he would be a superstar in Britain. Speaking to Channel M, Gallagher said, ”I don’t know who advised him but the comment about if he was white he’d be a superstar. I don’t think there is a place for racism in sport, it’s about talent”.

”You had the likes of Naz and Eubank years ago, they were characters, they never played the race card. It’s only Amir’s first world title, you have to look along side who he trains with, Manny Pacquiao, he won a title years ago and wasn’t claiming silly things like Amir is. So, maybe in a few more years Amir will have a superstar status”.

Gallagher went on to state that he had a slight feeling that Frank Warren was maybe planning on letting Kevin Mitchell beat Amir Khan on behalf of John Murray.

Chakyun, you may not like Mayweather or his mouth but he has built a brand that has made him one of the richest boxers of all time.

I think Khan might have a point, granted there have been instances such as Naz who had an “ethnic” name, find fame and popularity, that was more the exception than the rule. Pacquiao is not white but his popularity was primarily built in the the Philippines to which he is native. There will always be examples one can find that go against the grain but for the most part Khan’s comments are pretty accurate.

I think Khan needs to hire an adviser and teach him how talk to his crowd. He will gain enemy if he continues to follow Mayweather footsteps. Mayweather arrogance and his big mouth usually put him in trouble. If Khan truly said this racist comments, I guess he is a stupid ignorant. Pacquiao is not white, but look the popularity he is gaining everyday, not only because he is a good fighter but because of his humility.

No, Oli is the perfect example of why so many aint giving Khan that recognition, i give him alot mroe than Oli does but its all about opinion and alot of people share that opinion about him.

Theres nothing racist in what hes said he just not impressed with who Khan has fought and how hes got his belt, and he aint impressed with Khan talking his achievement up like hes already beaten all the top Lightweights and Lightwelterweights out there.

Astonishing stuff yet again from the huge mouth of Amir Khan. I think hes actually very lucky he has the money, fame and recognition he already got quite frankly considering hes done nothing in boxing terms to justify of deserve any of it. Hes already bigger a star than he deserves to be so once again if he kept his arrogant trap shut and proved his worth in the ring against real opposition then people mite start liking him
