Huck defeats Afolabi

By Erik Schmidt: Making his first defense of his World Boxing Organization cruiserweight title, champion Marco Huck (27-1, 20 KO’s) defeated WBO interim champion Ola Afolabi (14-2, 6 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Arena, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112. Huck, only 25, outworked Afolabi from start to finish, throwing far more punches than him and controlling most of the fight. Afolabi did, however, have his moments in the fight, hurting Huck with a big right hand in the 5th. Afolabi wasn’t able to finish Huck off though as Huck stayed upright and made it out of the round. In the end, Afolabi’s lazy economical style of fighting was his downfall in this fight.
