Ricky Hatton starts training: Marquez could be next – News

By William Mackay: According to Fight News, former International Boxing Federation light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton has started training. Hatton is reportedly in talks with Juan Manuel Marquez for a fight in Machester next year. Both Hatton and Marquez are coming off of losses. Hatton was blasted out in two brutal rounds by Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd. Since that fight, Hatton had been trying to decide whether to continue fighting or not. Recently, Hatton said that he had regained the itch to continue on with his career. However, it may be for just one more fight depending on how well Hatton does in his next bout.
Hatton made a calculated mistake in his last fight with Pacquiao by rushing him early in the 1st round and trying to slug. In hindsight, this was the worst possible thing that Hatton could do against a fighter with the quickness and the power of Manny. Hatton just made it that much easier for Pacquiao to take him out by rushing him like that. Pacquiao quickly hurt Hatton and ended up putting him down two times in the 1st round.
In the 2nd, Hatton still didn’t seem to have learned his lesson about trying to attack Pacquiao, because he walked into a big left hand from Pacquiao and was knocked cold by the punch. Hatton’s trainer, Floyd Mayweather Jr, had told him before the bout to use his jab and move. Instead of doing that, Hatton went straight at Pacquiao trying to take his head off with hooks.
In the time that Hatton has been off since his last fight, he’s put on a great deal of weight and it’s going to take him a lot of time to melt the tonnage off. It’s a good sign that Ricky has started training this early, because he’s going to need at least five to six months to take off all that weight the right way. Hatton can’t continue to take off weight quickly because he’s looked weight drained in his fights with Mayweather and Pacquiao.
If Hatton can come in great condition for a fight with Marquez, he’ll have an excellent chance at beating the Mexican star. Hatton is the bigger fighter and has more power than Marquez. Ricky will have to find a way to avoid getting countered by Marquez.

ricky class,,,but the way he faught that night he would have been dumped on his back by many B league fighters,,,,on top of that he struggles with southpaws,,,,,he didnt give pacman any repect,,,,and he paid the price,,,,aimonn magee nearly dropped ricky years ago ,,,also a southpaw but on this night ricky showed alot more respect for magee and stayed out of range of his big shots,,,,,,,,,,also i think its very clear that moving up doesnt make one bit of difference to manny ,he doesnt struggle with the weight ,,,and he carried his speed and strengh,(mayweayther wont have any weight advantage,or speed),,,i think theres doubt in floyds mind ,,,mayweathers scared of losing that 0,,thats why he,s braught up this steroid rubbish

Sure Hatton has only been whipped (easily) by 2 great fighters, but what good and in their prime fighters has he ever beaten?? A past sell by date and ballooned JMM will still have enough to KO him out cold.
why do people keep going on about ricky will not be able to make light welter he has balloned in weight after fights his whole career. believe me he will be at the weigh in bang on 140. I like most fans dont agree with ricky puttin on all the weight on but come on hes only lost 2 the best p4p boxers and he gets to eat drink just like the rest of us and still have a healthy bank account which alot of boxers and us could only dream about.Im lookin forward to this fight 2 no nonsence fighters going at it toe 2toe like it should be may the best man win.

Now fair enough, if Manny had said he wasn’t going to do any blood tests what-so-ever then you may have a point.
This is just typical Floyd trying to get a psychological advantage because he can’t get one over weight (a la Hatton, Marquez), or personal issues (a la corrales).

Come on guys, let’s not be ignorant about who is ducking who. Mayweather has come up with all sorts of rules and decision making during this fight, he has ducked from real competition cause he is scared, if Pacquiao is tested positive after the fight from his blood system the fight would be nullified and his WIN would not count. Mayweather wants excuses after excuses to not fight Pacquiao, let’s be real he Pacquiao is aggressive and fast and strong and any lost of blood during training is detrimental to a guy with fast twitched muscles. I would know this cause I have been playing sports and boxing for 15 years and I understand athletes in training and the psychological emphasis of Pacquiao.
English speaker, some PEDs can be out of the system in a few days after use, but their effects can last for weeks. A blood test after the fight will unlikely show anything unless the drug user is stupid enough to not cover his drug use up properly. Urine tests do not detect some PEDs. Therefore random blood tests are the only way to give an indication of whether or not Pacquiao is clean. We should be happy about Mayweather’s demands. At least we’ll know then that the winner of the fight is clean. I remember Shane Mosley kept on testing negative for drugs when he was tested after fights, and he used PEDs. Current testing methods are not effective, and the demands Mayweather is making, which he will also submit himself to, should be brought into effect throughout boxing

when a guy walks away from $40 million plus on the table just because he doesn’t want to give a small blood sample it’s no longer a question of whether he’s taking drugs or not. it’s a question of how long has he been taking drugs?
This shows real commitment of hatton to start training just before christmas and new year… the biggest time of the year in england when it comes to food at least.

Just because Mayweather Sr. has been convicted of drug-dealing, doesn’t mean he’s an expert on PEDs.

Looking at the “Hitman” on his trip to Australia and going by how he previously appeared inbetween fights, is he going to be able to get down to Lt Welter limit without following in Oscars footsteps & reducing his body to a bag of flesh & bones?
A fight with Marquez will no doubt be entertaining with it more than likey turning into a bloody, punishing, punch for punch encounter.
I’m just worried when the bell rings it will be a gun shy, weight drained, big welterweight with one eye on retirement VS. a small lightweight, battle worn & already counting the retirement cash.
Manny has already agreed to a blood test right after the fight is over. Why is that not sufficient enough for Mayweather? It seems that Manny doesn’t want to use WADA Testing because he doesn’t want to be subject to their random testing close to the fight. People are taking this a step further saying since WADA tests for HGH Manny is resisting the tests. Why don’t they just take the blood sample from the post fight and submit it to WADA? Then they can write into the contract that if Manny tests positive he will forfeit his purse. If Mayweather can’t agree to that, then he really is blowing up this whole issue to harass Manny.
