By Giancarlo Malinconico: I have been critical of all parties involved in the negotiations: Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Top Rank and Golden Boy. But it seems to me that the proposal by team Mayweather is reasonable and fair. There is no proof that Pacquiao or Mayweather has ever taken performance-enhancing drugs. Mayweather, moreover, has especially proven his innocence with his adamant stance on random-blood testing.
But as these negotiations have taken a turn for the worst, one man’s voice in this discussion has been missing—Freddie Roach. Roach was the one who publicly suggested a 50/50 purse split, which was agreed upon by both parties. Furthermore, Roach suggested a 5-day cutoff period for the random testing. But it seems that ever since making the suggestion, Roach has been told to remain silent. Did Bob Arum or someone from team Pacquiao silence Coach Roach?
And for Pacquiao fans who believe that random-blood testing is an insult, they should think again. We, pay-per-view purchasing costumers and boxing fans, deserve to know that our hard-earned money is going to competitors who are respecting the sport. If we can pull $54.99 out of our pockets, then there is no reason that Manny and Floyd cannot subject themselves to a few random-blood tests to ensure the integrity of the sport for the biggest matchup in boxing history.
Freddie Roach, wherever you are, why don’t reintroduce your proposal about the reasonable cutoff point for the random testing. Bob Arum continues to antagonize the situation by making ridiculous statements including an alleged conspiracy between the United States Anti-Doping Agency and Golden Boy Promotions, leaving testing up to the Nevada State Athletic Commission and plenty more. Therefore, Freddie, you’re the only voice of reason remaining to salvage this fight. Otherwise, let me be the first to state publically, I will boycott a Pacquiao/Malignaggi pay-per-view bout.
Breaking News: There is video footage of Manny Pacquiao receiving a blood test 14 days before his bout with Ricky Hatton on HBO’s 24/7. In the video, Pacquiao appears to be smiling while receiving the test. Hopefully, after the superstitious Pacquiao views this video, he will be more flexible on Mayweather’s request. According to ESPN, Bob Arum has stated the deadline (today) for closing the deal on the Mayweather versus Pacquiao bout will be extended, and Arum will notify Pacquiao of the newly discovered information in hopes of reaching an agreement on the blood testing clause of the contract.

Facts of the case:
1. It isn’t the boxing organization who wanted MP to take the USADA test (doping), but the camp of mayweather et. al.
2. MP had gone through in every test set by the boxing organizations and found nothing.
And I can see Roy Jones agreeing with Pacman. After all Roy also made a career out of finding excuses not to fight the best fighters. Anytime anyone halfway good wanted a fight with Roy it was always something different. I mean they are asking someone who’s legacy is finding excuses not to fight the best. Thats what he’s known for!! If Mayweather threatened to walk out because of the $10 million penalty he would probaly agree with Mayweather too. Anything to keep the fans from seeing a fight they want too see Roy is for.

Pacquiao doesn’t want to undergo this blood testing because he knows that once he agree to Mayweather’s term there are more tests coming in which will be required by the Mayweather Boxing Commission.

PBF is playing tricks on us. Its a mind game and its a dirty one. If MP gives in to a blood test and found innocent of which proven from the past, the result is that MP adhered to the request of PBF. and it is damaging psychologically to MP that he adhered to the tantrum of PBF. If MP does not give in to the wishes of PBF, then MP will be accused of doping.
Why is it that PBF is trying to change the doping/test in boxing? Is he not satisfied to the old and proven test? and therefore all previous boxing matches are doubtful and dubious. Does he not trust the other Agencies and insist USADA only will be good for him.

Once and for all, is he accusing MP of doping? If not why bother to go to this extent. If yes, then he should categorically state it or put a complain (have the balls to do it)–in writing to its proper organization to settle the matter. And if he’s right, then so be it. MP will suffer. But if proven wrong, then he should suffer in all aspect (money and RESPECT).
So there you are three (3) law suits for PBF.
1. Putting the Boxing organizations in a bad light.
2. Putting the other Drug Agencies in doubtful situation. and
3. Accusing somebody of doping.

Why hasn’t anyone looked into the possibility of using the hair sample test. From what I have read and have been told this is a very accurate test for detecting substance abuse. This test would not put mental or physical stress on either fighter. IMO if they really want to make this fight happen they need to seek the advise of an expert on this type of testing and find out if it will solve the problem they are having putting this fight together. I am beginning to think that the promoters are simply putting us”the fans of boxing” through a circle jerk. This is the kind of s**t that makes the sport continue to lose its fan base.

Take a little time to see what is going on. PBF demands are only logic when you think of the size f this event.This is going to be a Superbawl type event. i just want to react on the argument most often put forward on blood testing: that pacquiao should take the blood tests to clear everything or erase doubts. this kind of thinking is unfair in the first place, and to insist on pacquiao to take the blood test in accordance with the mayweathers’ demands is even more unjust.
first of all, the presumption of innocence must first be put in mind. if somebody thinks or accuses someone of doing something illegal, it is the accuser’s burden to prove it. making pacquiao to take the blood test just to erase doubts on mayweathers’ minds (if that’s what they really think, which everybody knows is just either a strategy to make manny angry or to make a way out for mayweather), does not do justice to everybody, most especially to pacquiao. it should be floyd who should prove it, and not manny.
secondly, pacquiao is not an unwilling person when it comes to blood testing. he simply do not want it done 30 days before the fight. he is a superstitious person and we should respect that. what is the difference between doing the test immediately after the fight and with doing the test before the bout? nothing. whatever will be in his system during the fight can be revealed by a blood test right after the fight.
it is clear to everybody that mayweather’s demand for random blood testing is ridiculous and made even more ridiculous by him not accepting a compromise, a proposal that the nevada state commission will decide whether a blood test is still necessary within 30 days preceding the fight. such a compromise proposal by team pacquiao is i think should be enough to make the mayweathers agree to go on with the fight. but their uncompromising stand shows and strengthens everybody’s suspicion that the mayweathers are really scared of pacquiao and that they are simply looking for an escape.
but i believe, the bout will still continue. if not on march 13, it will be on a later date, but not on may because pacquiao would be busy for his campaign at that time, since the elections in the philippines will be held on may. but let’s hope the bout will proceed so that we can all see who’s better between these two fighters.

Pacquiao is not even interested negotiating the cutoff date.
He has kicked the ball out.
He doesn’t want the fight.
I worry that even if the 30 day window shrinks that the new debate will be whether or not the tests are to be random or scheduled.
Has pac said he was willing to do random up to the cutoff date? Or would each test have to be scheduled regardless of the cutoff date?
If the 30 days is the only sticking point then i think there is a chance its made if both camps are willing to give a little. Floyd wants testing up to the day of the fight, pac wants it cut at 30 days so why not cut it at 14 days? This seems to be the most obvious solution if this is truly the only sticking point. If either camp denies this then i would blame that camp, if both would deny it then shame on all involved. If the mayweather camp is willing to do the 14 day cutoff arum said he will go to manny with the proposal, the ball will be in his court.
If the Nevada State Athletic Commission mandates blood testing, Pacman will have to agree to it.

Nice Article! I may have heard Roach mention during the earlier stages of the contract negotiations that they’ll agree to random tests except for blood to be drawn out 72 hours before the fight. If that’s the case then I believe that’s a good enough compromise for both camps to accept. If Pacquiao would only counter propose that Pacman would agree to 4-5 random tests during training including blood tests anytime during training but only until 72 hours before the fight. Then agree for blood to be drawn out same day after the fight. I would suppose Schaeffer, Floyd, et al. would find that acceptable.

The Iraq regime is a brutal one and suspicion is reasonable. Pacquiao has passed all the tests before and there is no reasonable proof that he is on steroids. Perception is reality. Floyd Mayweather is clearly one of the boxers around who’s highly respecting the sport of boxing. Floyd not making weight in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez is a very good example on how he highly respect the sport.

Your argument does not hold water, nor does your reasoning. No [boxing] sanctioning body in the US, Europe, or, Asia mandates random testing. If GBP now suddenly advocates it, after refusing to have Mosley undergo random testing, let them start campaigning to have the sanctioning bodies adopt it. You will notice that they have not asked for random testing in the Mosley vs. Berto bout, even though Mosley has already been caught doping once.

Exactly that test wasn’t for steroids or HGH and it wasn’t random, He new that and that’s why he took it because he feared nothing. That test was 14 days before the fight and KO Hatton so there is no way he can claim he can be weaken by a blood test. Just take the test (randomly) with a cutoff date of 3 day before fight night and show your mano a mano that you promised.
