Forget Mayweather, Pacquiao should just fight Malignaggi

By Scott Gilfoid: Man, I wouldn’t even waste my time anymore trying to negotiate a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. if I was Manny Pacquiao. He and his promoter Bob Arum already drew a line in the sand and said they don’t want to take any blood tests within 30 days of their March 13th fight, but Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather are still trying to get blood testing done within that time parameter. I say forget the Mayweather bout. Pacquiao needs to move ahead and fight former IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.
The Mayweather fight is already tainted as far as I’m concerned because of the blood issues and the stuff tied into it with the impending lawsuit. I don’t see how Pacquiao could want to still fight Mayweather after all this. It’s better for Pacquiao to just cut his losses and move on to a fight with Malignaggi. That fight will at least be free from all the baggage that surrounds the Mayweather bout. Plus, it will probably be much more easy to put together contract wise, because Malignaggi isn’t about to haggle long and hard about it. He needs this fight, since it would bring him a huge payday.
If I was Pacquiao, I’d tell Arum to forget the fight with Mayweather, and tell him even if they gave him exactly what he wants, that I still wouldn’t to fight Mayweather. It’s the principle of the matter that counts. There’s been too much that’s occurred for this fight to be good for Pacquiao. He doesn’t need it to build his legacy. Pacquiao should go ahead and fight Malignaggi instead and after that look at other alternatives in the light welterweight or welterweight divisions. Pacquiao has a lot of good opponents that he can fight like Edwin Valero, Shane Mosley, and Andre Berto in the future.
That’s where Pacquiao should be looking to instead of taking a fight that is causing him headaches. He doesn’t need the money and can easily make up for what he doesn’t get in losing the Mayweather fight by taking on other stars in the sport. But if it was me, I’d tell Mayweather to go fly a kite. I wouldn’t fight him now at this point no matter what they say.
Pacquiao has his dignity and doesn’t need the Mayweather fight. He should go for Malignaggi and then let his promoter Bob Arum look for the next big fight for him after that. The Mayweather fight isn’t a good option for him now, not with them asking for blood tests within 30 days of the fight. The fight is too tainted for my tastes. Pacquiao needs to look after himself and not waste his time with this fight anymore.

Look at all the Pacquiao fans wanting badly for Pac to fight anyone other than Mayweather. Arum is scared to death of Mayweather, that’s why he keeps moving the bar and thowing up obstacles. But Pacquiao is not afraid and I think the fight will still happen. Mayweather will back off on testing (he already is) and Arum will be trapped.
Prediction: 1. the fight still happens without the tests 2 Mayweather will continue on 24/7 to imply PED use further infuriating Pac. 3. Mayweather beats Pac in a great and close fight.
Some of you sports writers especially in Boxing need to just give it up. You have no since of integrity to the sport like MMA writers or commentators. I question your love if any to a sport that a fighter just ask for the same type of playing field that is good enough for the worlds best to compete at every 4 years, that it be applied to the sports biggest fight potentially of all time when it comes to grossing. Your lame view point is not worth reading and is a turn off from taking anything serious from this site or any that has your view point in print, because its obviously a blind view point with no sense historical logic.
iif paulii had given hatton a decent fight then this may have been a good idea,,,but cmon pacman gonna ruin him,he just hasnt got the fire power to match pac,or even keep him at bay,,,,expect this fight to be over very very quickly,,mismatch

Jimmie Pac and May are fighting in the same weight class now…you get that right. Floyd fights guys when they are at the peak of their careers…not Pacquiao. DElahoya fought Pac at 145lbs but he fought Floyd at 154 and was 160 on fight night. Floyd came in at 152. under the 154 cause he could not get up that high body not big enough. Pac was 148 on fight night and was heavier than Oscar…145lbs. So who is taking the risk? Hatto fight was 147 for Floyd. For Pac…140. What do you think about these comments …honestly. I think Pac is a great fighter..but not the best. Feel me?

I agree with the writer entirely. Tell Arum that he does not want the fight, sue GBP and the Maweathers and move on to fight Malinaggi and then maybe Shane Mosley or another bigger name. Ignore Floyd, he is nothing but trouble.

Delahoya was drained down to 145 on fight night when he was 160 against Floyd. Now Arum is talking Paulie Boy who lost to Cotto and got stopped by Hatton. Lose the “I wanna fight the loser syndrome” ok Manny. Top fighters don’t get cred for fighting the loser, the idea is to fight the winner. Thats what champions,warriors do. Cowards fight the loser. for the fight to happen this is PAQ demands
1. it should be 95-5 split. PAQ 95
2. use 15oz glove. (so it can last upto maybe 2 rounds)
3. PAQ will tie his left hand to prevent murder and a 1st round knock out
4. Bloodtest after the gloves are on or 10mins before the fight to weaken me (again to prevent murder)
5. PPV share should also be 95-5.

All this leaves me to wonder why not take the test? Potentially $40 million per purse and Mayweather agreed to all of Manny’s request and Pacquiao can’t take the test…??? What am I to think here? Seems to me that it’s Pacman’s camp not Mayweathers’ that wants to dictate the terms of the fight…Answer by Monday OR we go to Pauli?? Since when does Pauli pose a threat to Manny in the ring? Bring on Timothy Bradley instead.

It would be ideal if the fight happens. But you see now why boxing stinks? Mayweather is bad news and you can look back the history. Better for Pacquiao to move on… it is healthier for boxing. How can anyone who considers themselves a boxing fan even suggest a different fight on March 13. Regardless of the circus that the ongoing negotiations have become there is absolutely no better fight that can be made in the entire boxing spectrum; to suggest differently is completely ludicrous.
