David Haye: Britain’s Best Sportsman
By Peter Wells: People like David Haye make me very proud to be British, and I have to give my respect to other sports stars including Jenson Button. The reason I am writing this article is to encourage British viewers on this website to vote for David Haye for BBC British Sports Personality of the year. David Haye became the 3rd British world champion this November, by shocking a lot of the world by beating 7ft 2in Russian Nikolay Valuev. It was a tremendous victory for Haye, and was probably the biggest sporting event in Britain this year. Next year will be the pinnacle of his career, fights lurking against both Klitschko’s after his mandatory defence against American John Ruiz.
Also Manny Pacquiao will be contesting for the Overseas BBC Sports Personality of the year award, and who else can win it, Manny has had an even better year, and next year can only get better with his contest against Pretty Boy Floyd. So please vote for Pacquiao and Haye, they deserve to win, and let British boxing live on.

I’d like to see haye finish in the top 3 but the lack of boxing coverage on terrestrial tv will mean it is unlikely that he will beat the likes of Henson button.
I think that a lot of people also forget that haye was a dominant cruiserweight world champion before stepping up to heavyweight. He has more chance of winning it next year if he can make a couple of successful defences.
I think Haye realized that the more you fight, the higher your chances of losing speach. Since he likes to talk so much, the tradeoff he made is obvoius. Thing is, he shouldn’t talk about fighting unless he is willing to do it. He’s in his physical prime and he backs out of fighting Klitchko… then afterwards, he wants to talk about knocking the Klitchkos out. The kid is fighting demonds in his head.
Do me a favour one fight in a year against a man who had lost it to a smaller man than Haye and almost to a middle aged man who to honest really won it, no defiantly not.
Personality! I’m afraid it should mean a little more than trash talk and mockery.
would love to see david win it! come on the hayemaker!
Boxing is only going to be on Sky Sports from now on, ITV are not renewing their contract and ESPN dont seem to be bidding for rights to any English boxers fights.
We need it to become more popular and then maybe the BBC or ITV will once again be prepared to spend money on showing the sport.
But seeing as its called sports PERSONALITY of the year i cant think of anybody better than Haye, he is some personality
I’m all for supporting our boxers. Haye won the Heavyweight title which is a massive achievement, especially against Valuev. But, he fought once in 2009.
Usually I would support the boxer to win the Sports Personality, but I feel Jenson Button deserves it more. However, I would be just as satisfied if Haye won it.
i agree with ya man, we need to raise the awareness of boxing in uk. im down with that, ud be gud 2 c haye win it, he makes me proud 2be english, nt british, english…..
