Cayo ready to take WBA title home to D.R

HOLLYWOOD, FL, December 23 – Top rated contender VICTOR “MERMELADA” CAYO, fresh off his 3rd round demolition of undefeated countrymen JULIO REYES is now ready to challenge for the World Boxing Association title. Cayo 25-0 (16 KO’s) easily destroyed Reyes (14-1, 8 KO’s) in the 3rd round at the Coliseo Carlos Teo Cruz in Santo Domingo Monday night, enhancing his status as the highest rated Junior Welterweight contender in the WBA. His target, Marcos Maidana from Argentina, who won the WBA Interim Title by beating Victor Ortiz on June 27, 2009 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Said Cayo, “Maidana can run but he can’t hide. Hopefully the WBA will force him to fight me so I can bring the Title home to the Dominican Republic where it belongs and where it will stay.”

Co-Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing said “Amir Khan will not fight Maidana, and will give up his title making this fight between Maidana and Cayo mandatory. Every time he fights I am more and more amazed at how good he is. I really believe he is something special and when he is Champion, he will remain Champion for a very long time.”

At 23 years of age, Victor Cayo has already beaten a list of talented fighters during his quick assertion to the pinnacle of the WBA World rankings. In his previous bout as the main event of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, Cayo demonstrated to an International Television audience, just how far he has come, by dismantling the former World Champion Julio Diaz, and wining a 10 round unanimous decision on May 31 at the Hardrock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida.
