Arreola stops Minto in four

By Sam Gregory: In the co-main event on HBO boxing from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Chris Arreola scored his twenty-fifth knockout against the very game Brian Minto in the heavyweight division. From the opening bell it was clear to see that Arreola was the bigger stronger man. In the first round Arreola mixed up his punches landing his powerful jab that when it landed solid came close to knocking Minto off his feet.

In the second round both men were in the center of the ring going toe to toe with Minto managing to stay on his feet while being hit by the powerful shots by Arreola.

By the third round both men seemed settled in enough to take their time and time their punches which really only benefited Arreola who kept landed big hard well time punches mixed in with those devastating over head shots that wore Minto down.

Going into round four Arreola looked to be well ahead in the fight; that said Minto was a very game fighter and fought his heart out in every one of these rounds. Arreola finally landed the punch that dropped Minto in this round. From that point on referee Eddie Cotton kept a close eye on Minto who didn’t last more than a couple more seconds of taking big strong punches from Arreola until Cotton stepped in and called a halt to the fight at 2:40 of round four.

Chris Arreola won by way of TKO improving his record to 28-1 with 25 KO’s; Brian Minto fell to 34-3 with 21 KO’s

its hard to believe the heavyweight division ,it is so watered down and in need of some serious talent so that we feel we are getting our monies worth, the top 10 guys today coundt beat the bottom 50 od the 70s even 80 s, i know times change but lets get serious with this line up, at least we have the welterweight s and middleweights to watch

Arreola doesn’t run his mouth too much. He has heart and he can punch and takes a pretty good punch. He is also fighting more often than some champions I know. I wish him luck. David Tua is also planning on fighting more frequently. These guys are serious about their game.

Brian Minto was not a good opponent. If Minto was bigger. He would have been slower. If Arreola was lighter. He would have been faster. Arreola was coming off a one sided loss. Brian Minto sucks.

If Arreola wants to be a serious contender, he must get in better shape…lose the “spare tire” around his middle, and get a more established trainer instead of one of his buddies. Arreola has the tools to become a champion, he just needs better trainers.

  • Action says:

Arreola won, but only because of his much bigger size and height advantage, against a very game and tough Minto. If Minto was bigger, it could have very well been a nightmare for Arreola. Arreola’s language on HBO is funny to say the least….does he know where he is??

    ok …he can beat a tomato can ……so what…

I think if Chris wants a part of the heavyweight title he has to go for the much easier Haye or Ruiz after their bout. And maybe then for a big money bout against the younger K brother. I haven’t seen the fight because I live in europe, but what I read about it, it was a typical Arreola fight, landing and taking powershots and turning out having the better punches and better chin.

Good fight for Arreola, he needs to get rid of some of that fat if he wants to get another shot at a title, maybe take on Wladimir next time.
