Why is Dmitriy Salita ranked number one by the WBA?

salita343By Liam Santiago: I have tried time and time again to try and figure out why Dmitriy Salita is the number one contender for Amir Khan’s World Boxing Association title but I can not, for the life of me come up with any reason. Boxrec have him ranked 60th in the light welterweight class. Yes, 60th! This guy does not stand a chance against Amir Khan. Not because Khan is great, because Salita is way below average. He has been dropped more times than Khan and that is saying something!

This kind of situation is what is very bad for boxing. I am all for an easyish first defence but this is just pathetic. Maybe Khan should take a look at fellow British champion, Carl Froch, who took on middleweight legend, Jermaine Taylor in his first defence. That was a very risky fight to take but it was one the fans wanted to see and it paid off for the Cobra.

I am simply confused as to how a guy who is generally ranked around the 60 area of his division can become the number one contender for one of the four main titles. Salita can not even knock Khan down. To put Salita’s quality into simple text, he is ranked 40 places below British champion, Lenny Daws, by Boxrec. And Amir Khan wonders why the boxing fans are not taking a great like to him. Take on a decent challenge Amir! Do what Ricky Hatton and Carl Froch have done. Don’t shy away from the big tests.

I do not want to hear any of this crap about how Khan is only 20 or whatever age he is. If he is capable of becoming champion, he must take on the best.

Ignore dem h8rz, Khan is rubbish, he has beaten nobody, and claims he wants Marquez, Pacqauio. Khan had the cheek 2 say his fites were more entertaining than Carl Froch’s!! If Amir Khan actually beats top names in his division, not calling out a washed up Hatton, Marquez (jus lost), or Pacqauio (lookin 4 a big pay day) i will give him my respect

Khan is not british boxing, fite the best, beat the best.

Khan is way to over-rated i agree y should fighers spend there time working up the rankings to be overlooked for someone who they would beat easily i dont think kahn is 1 of the top 10 light welterwieghts in the world.

  • Nickp says:

Look at Salitas record and you will find that the combined record of his first 30 opponents ranks higher than most of the greatest fighters in history. Khan has beaten Barrera who was 5″ shorter than him and washed up.I think he looked horrible against Kotelnic. Salita has better boxing skills than people are giving him credit for and more will as you will see on Dec 5.

  • Joe says:

I agree with the article completely.I have very little respect for Khan as he is not a real warrior like Froch and Hatton. Froch isnt an amazing fighter for sure, but he has heart and wants the best, as doe Hatton.

Salita is limited and will feel the Wrath of Khan!

  • Michael says:

    Your basis is boxrec?
Boxrec lists Hatton as no.1 in light welter, shows you how dumb their ratings are…

  • stephen a says:

look liam, if khan does not fight miadana after he beats salita ill stop making comments.

  • stephen a says:

  • Rashid says:

be a man, and do what u said.

  • RichM28 says:

Your mad. Salita is undefeated in 31 fights. Who would you rather see him fight. I understand Maidana’s claim to a shot and that will come but you cannot put Khan down for taking on an undefeated hungry fighter.

  • Hitman89 says:
