Roach wants Pacquiao to face Marquez at a 145 pound catch-weight

By Manuel Perez: I thought the catch weight bouts for Manny Pacquiao were done and finished with his fight with World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto last weekend, but I guess I’m wrong. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, in an article with Philstar, said “ Maybe we can do Marquez one more time and give him a rematch…It will definitely be a big fight.” Roach is speaking of Juan Manuel Marquez as a backup plan to use in case a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t materialize for one reason or another.
The one problem for a rematch is that Roach is talking about the fight taking place at 145 pounds. Frankly, I think that sucks. Marquez already showed against Mayweather that he doesn’t have the frame to carry 144 pounds without being drastically slowed down because of it.
But by Roach wanting the fight to take place at 145, it’s as good as saying that wants Pacquiao to have a huge advantage in the fight. I’m tired of these catch weight fights. He did it with Cotto, and although the fight against Oscar De La Hoya wasn’t at a catch weight, it might as well have been because De La Hoya had to come down to 147 for the fight, a weight he hadn’t fought in years.
Marquez won’t have any say in the matter, because he’s not the more popular fighter and doesn’t have the title. He’ll take the fight anyway he can get it if they offer it to him. But that doesn’t mean it will be fair to Marquez. We already saw that Marquez is too small to fight in the mid 140s, so why fight him at that weight? If Pacquiao wants to fight Marquez, why not fight him at super featherweight (130)? I’ll tell you why, because Marquez would be quick and dangerous at that weight and it would be curtains for Pacquiao.
Roach also is looking at Pacquiao fighting the winner of the January fight between WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley and WBC welterweight title holder Andre Berto. “Maybe the winner of that Mosley-Berto fight can be a great fighter for Manny.” Well, you can figure the winner of that fight will be Mosley, who Pacquiao should have fought last Saturday night instead of Cotto. I’m not holding my breath on Pacquiao fighting Mosley anytime soon.

Hey Moron! Marquez is a lightweight. The catchweight this time is really for Marquez’s benefit, not Pacquiao’s. Pacquiao would be more than happy to fight Marquez at 147 but Marquez can’t make that weight. He’s just too small.
So it just mean that Pacman and Marquez is in different level. Pac can move up to wt and still be great. Marquez, lame.

1. someone who is so biased against Pacquiao and Filipinos that he fails to see the genius of Pacquiao’s performance
2. someone who does not know boxing at all.
3. is not a real person but instead a “link bait” to attract Pacquiao fans worldwide to this website.
I believe he is #3 since his articles are so devoid of any facts and so biased.
Whoever/whatever he is, he significantly reduces the credibility of this site. The website owners must consider whether hits are better than lack of credibility, which ultimately leads to boycott.
This guy writes like this to spark interest in Pacquiao. He very well could be on Pacquiao’s pay roll. Read his writing. It cannot be reasonably analyzed to make any objective sense whatsoever. Parez’s articles are written with such bias for the sole purpose of our entertainment. He writes these things not because he believes them, but because he hopes to get a rise out of his readers. So why did Cotto, the champ, have to come down in weight AND put his belt on the line at a non-official catch weight that favored the smaller Pacquiao? PAC fans were saying before it was a disadvatage for him to go up in weight, now you’re saying it would be a disadvantage to go down if it was Marquez. Face it, all Pac fans, you want the advantage to ALWAYS be with Manny, so does Roach, which is why if it’s a bigger opponent they have to lose weight and dehydrate to come down to meet Pac at a weight they’ll be less effective at, and if it’s a smaller opponent, like Marquez, who gave Pac a nightmare at 130lbs, he has to come up to 145 where he is less effective.
I Think fighting the winner of Berto and Mosley would be the better option than the Marquez fight but for the love of Boxing Mayweather v Pac needs to happen…..

Both of them have experienced fighting at above 140lb. So, I don’t it is a problem.
Marquez only complaint about weight because he lost to Mayweather. Before the fight, he boastfully said, he will knockout Mayweather with his increasing power.
Pacquiao won’t fight below 140lb because, his body sizes up as he ages. It’s natural for human. I guess you yourself weight around 200lb.

He’s got a point- if you want to fight Marquez, fight him at 130lbs. If you don’t want to fight him, don’t. If you want to fight Mosely, fight him at 147. These catch weights are nothing but an advantage for pacquiao, that’s why Roach wants them.
