Ricky Hatton: ”I want Cotto next”! – Boxing

hat2432541By Liam Santiago: Former undisputed light welterweight champion, Ricky Hatton has stunned boxing fans by stating that he wants to fight Miguel Cotto next, but only if Cotto can defeat Pacquiao. Speaking to the sun Hatton said, ”If Cotto wins, I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t fancy a fight with him. I’ve faced the best pound-for-pound fighters in Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao, so I’ve never shied away from a challenge. If Cotto becomes the pound-for-pound king, I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t fight.”

Hatton, like myself, believes that Cotto will beat Pacquiao, mainly because of power. Hatton stated that in his bout with the Pac Man, he shook Pacquiao up on more than one occasion and he believes Cotto will stop him, which will open the door for a major showdown with Hatton. He said, ”I’d like to think Pacquiao will win as I’ve got a lot of time for him both as a fighter and as a person. But Cotto’s strong and powerful and you can’t discount him at all. I know Pacquiao knocked me down twice in the first round but I came back and he commented that I hurt him before he caught me.”.

If you ask me, this fight is three or four years too late. Hatton should have fought Cotto when they were both campaigning at light welterweight, maybe instead of the likes of Ray Olivera, but that is probably the fault of promoters. If it was to take place it would be an amazing clash of styles. Both fighters come forward. Both fighters have immense power. Who do I think would win? I am not going to say yet, I need time to weigh things up.

Hatton also ruled out a fight with young novice Amir Khan. He said, ”I can’t see a fight with Amir ever happening. He’s a friend of mine and he’s also promoted by Warren. There’s history between myself and Warren so I can’t see us working together. The only way that fight might ever happen is if I promoted it — and that’s because I’d like the money to go in mine and Amir’s pockets!”

jc-that dusnt make any sence the collazo fight was at welter?i said when they where both at lww hatton would have easily win.and as i said before i believe they where both supremly overrated, and as we see again last nyt cotto is an overrated fighter with no heart, pac would have stoped him well earlier hadnt it being for his running al around the ring,no im not sure who win if the both fot now as cotto just seems as shot as hatton.

Wat s’up ya’ll, Sausages here coming at you from the city that never sleeps!! I suppose you’re all wondering what my take on it is?….. Well, Sausages has just heard from a reliable source that Hatton will have a fight with either Diaz or Bradley in April and will have a rematch with Mayweather towards the end of 2010. Sausages is looking forward to this and believes there’s something still left for Hatton, particularly after seeing Pac dismantle Cotto (Sausages second favourite fighter)!! Ya’ll heard it here first, Sausages thinks it’s time he started writing full time!! Peace, signing out from the big city…

  • BobbyBoo says:

    Hatton must be mad

  • Eric says:

and why would cotto fight hatton if he wins. no one wants to see this fight, hatton go retire and spend your money cotto would demolish you within 3 rounds.

  • dcmac says:

Hatton should have a few comeback fight first, perhaps against the likes of Junior Witter, Devon Alexander or Bradley to get his confidence back then go for the mega fights again.

  • JC says:

Everybody believe Hatton lost that one.

  • JC says:

    james mc

Because Luis Collazo, an excellent fighter but not as Cotto, was the worst nightmare of Hatton (before Manny of course) whe he was the light welterweight champ.

  • james mc says:

how can peopel say that hatton would never have beaten cotto, when the where both at lww hatton would have win easily, while hatton was beating the 1 or 2 p4p fighter in tyzu, cotto was getting knockdown by torres, mad to strugle against masua who hatton destroyed, and had a major strugle against malignagie and baren the knockdown i would have scored the fight a draw, another fighter hatton destroyed.i m not a gr8 fan of hatton or cotto and think they are both supremly overrated, and if they both faught now id favour cotto but a few years back i recon hatton would have win with ease.

  • JC says:

Imagine (no defense) Hatton in front of Cotto.

  • FlipCanadian says:

Ricky wants Miguel? LoL. For what, beer drinking competition?

  • Manny says:

Ricky. if you want money that bad, think of something else to do. At this moment and time, boxing is not for you

  • Roger Lopez says:

Liam, please stop writing about Ricky Hatton. You are starting to be like a stalker withi him. Scary!!!

  • LOLOL says:

Liam Santiago, stop writing bull.s articles. you’re a crap writer and write a load of s. Go do something else with your sheeet life.

  • Anonymous says:

…………….shocking!!!! “I hurt him before he caught me”, and knocked you out cold. Jesus for the sake of your son retire.

  • JC says:

I think Ricky has a suicide instinct, since his last fight with Manny. Please don’t let him do that!

  • andy says:

    no ricky just no

  • Tom C says:

Hatton is still knocked out. Cotto would have beaten him at light-welter and win or lose to pacman would annihilate him easily at welter.
If Cotto beats pac which will be an incredibly difficult fight he could use a nice handy defence next time out so this human punchback would be ideal for him financially too.

  • A B says:

I SEE HATTON ON WWE. MY GOD HE WAS HUGE,HE LOOKED LIKE HE CAN DO CRUISER.

  • hmm says:

ricky hatton dont know what he wants first he wanted to fight marquez then mayweater and know cotto lol hatton is on drugs or some thing hatton just fight amatures

  • UKanSodOff says:

Well atleast we know what Hatton wants to do now. He doesnt want to go try dominate the LW division. Hes still lookin for big fights against big names.

I am dissapointed when i see people say Hatton lost toPacman, Pacman lost to Cotto so clearly that = Hatton loses to Cotto.

He prob would but it doesnt quite work like that. a fight with Cotto is more suited to Hatton than a speedy guy with great movement like Pacquiao.

But then hes always found it hard at Welterweight and a beast like Cotto would be too strong to let Hatton use the tactics he likes to use.

  • GABOY25 says:

Hatton wants Cotto if Cotto gets past Pac? WTF is Ricky thinkin?

  • mombo says:

ricky’s head is obviously still ringing from that punch. he needs more time.

  • Nepster says:

So if Cotto beats PAC,you want to fight the guy that beat the guy who almost knocked your head off? Wow.

  • luisojeda says:

ja,ja,ja. cotto will send you home on a weelchair.

  • liboraci says:

    overrated and delusional…

  • dauid m says:

U know hatton better days r behind him. he beat guy name kozsta szu nobody gaue him a chance. anything is posible when it comes to boxing. dont get me wrong i like cotto. i dont mind seeing that fight

  • oscar says:

whats happen to hatton, ringside at his bruvas fight he said he was taking pacman to school in the second round. get a grip

  • Dom says:

    Only if he beats Pacman????
Who the fcuk does fatman think he is, his only just woke up from the beating Pacquiao gave him & his calling the future shots. Cotto would murder Hatton inside 5. Retire you overrated Brit.

  • James says:

What are you talking about? Have ou seen Ricky lately? He balloned over 200lbs and looks like a beached whale. He should never fight again, yet alone compete with elite fighters, because he may have a heart attack.
Let’s get fighters like the old days, whebn they had respect for their fans and more importantly, for themselves. What a joke this sport has become.

  • QwertyKeyboard says:

ricky is a legend but if cotto beats pacquiao hatton doesnt deserve to fight cotto. He has to prove himself worthy agin and that is a huge task in itself.

  • J says:

Ricky Hatton is my favourite fighter but he has to be punch drunk to even consider fighting Cotto.

  • Steve says:

Why would Cotto even consider fighting Hatton, who can’t fight for crap at 147 and got easily ko’d by Pac?

How about him fighting Mayweather, or Williams, or one of the other actual challengers.

Hatton is crazy if he thinks he deserves this fight.

  • Tre' says:

YEAH RIGHT!!! I Know Hatton is a big draw but he is not in Cotto’s league. I don’t know why people think Hatton is or was a great fighter! He is definately note or ever has been. Cotto gains nothing from fighting Hatton but millions. I do have a respect for Hatton but I feel he is way overrated. Clearly its all about the money but thats nothing new in the boxing game.

  • wayner says:

hatton will get murdered in the ring he should stay retired….. can not hang with the big boys a b- fighter no impressive wins….

  • dmp says:

HATTON MUST BE ON SMIN HE WOULD NEVER EVER BEAT COTTO AT ANY POINT IN THEIR CAREERS

  • cotto=pain says:

haha hatton is lucky they even allow him within 200 ft of a boxing ring. cotto would destroy hatton within 4 rounds. one liver shot and hatton will run out of the ring to the nearest pub.

  • Toney says:

Ricky need to retire before he get kill he geting knock to dam much you can thump him on the head and he fall out.

  • rIK says:

    One last pay day!!!!!!

  • Phoocquiao says:

Cotto would win if they fought. Although he won’t have an easy a time a Pacquiao did because he doesn’t move with the same footspeed. He’d still win the fight. Late stoppage or decision. Cotto’s gotta beat Pacquiao first though.
