Pavlik disappoints

pavlik6452315By Peter Wells: I’m not going to turn obsessed with criticizing Kelly, I just want to make this one point, this is one of those fighters who is ruining boxing. After all the hand problems that Kelly Pavlik has had, he is suddenly ok to fight, in my view, a worthless fight against Miguel Angel Espino, instead of calling off his December 5th bout with the feared Paul Williams. Well he’s only fighting 2 weeks later, he needs to fight someone good, he beats Taylor twice, and he’s one of the best fighters in the world. If he’d versed Winky Wright last year he would have lost, because even Winky nearly beat Jermaine.

I wouldn’t be bothered if he’d arranged this fight next year but he’s fighting the same month he would have fought Williams. He could easily have got the fight back on with Paul, and I’m sure Sergio Martinez, Williams’ next opponent would have stepped aside. I don’t hate any boxer no matter where their from, but I can’t stand fighters that do this and expect to be respected. Bernard Hopkins could have knocked him out, and he looked poor against Marco Antonio Rubio. It could be like when David Haye pulled out of fighting Wladimir Klitschko, and then fought someone else a few weeks later. Now if David Haye did that he would have loads of complaints, (especially from Mr.Gilfoid).

Pavlik needs to fight Paul Williams next year, for sheer respect, he has to fight him no excuses, and then we would see how much of a waster Kelly Pavlik is.

All of the momentum is now gone for Pavlik. He is ripe for a busting…and a solid boxer will do it.

  • sekll says:

Pavlik is no Ricky Hatton. Hatton put all the marbles on the table and took on the best in the world. A champion is supposed to do that. Thats what we expect from a champion.

  • jw says:

hes a bum he ducked calzaghe and now hes ducking the top contenders after the humiliation of his fight with hopkins

  • dan says:

KELLY THE JOKE PAVLIK ONLY FIGHTING BECAUSE THEY WILL TAKE HIS BELTS

  • UKanSodOff says:

He seems to be one of those boxers who get defeated and it takes more out of them than most others.

He was built up and then shown up. Hopkins did him like Calzaghe did Lacy and im sure theres many more examples.

They train just as hard, they talk the same talk but something goes stale, the train comes of the tracks as such.

    And its definatly happening here.

  • neil the taff says:

i think they are all bums anyways!its time for these so called “stars” and “idols”to get some big money together and get joe calzaghe out of retirement and then we will see who is the real boss!

  • shawn says:

I doubt this fight is going to happen it will probobly get pushed back. I don’t blame him for pulling out of williams fight but he shoudn’t have made it in the first place. he should have scheduled a tune up instead of getting everyone all exited. I’m holding judgement on pavlik till I see what fight he schedules after his first fight back.

  • twhite says:

He is a joke to boxing, he should have at least fought next year to make it seem like he was coming back from his hand problems, and even if he did come back the same month, he could have chosen somebody better, this guy he fighting needs to whoop his a**.

  • js says:

I enjoy Pavlik’s fighting, but I totally agree… This is the same strategy Haye played. He realized he was in over his head, and (unlike Haye) had a legitimate issue for not fighting that morphed into an excuse to fight someone else.

  • Mr Rich says:

I wouldnt right off Espino, ive seen him fight, he’s pretty slick and we all know Pavlik is a tad one dimensional…. im aware that people are expecting him to blow Espino away with his power but at the end of the day he is only flesh and blood and ripe for the picking. Not sure if he has fully recovered after what Hopkins did to him. His last fight against Marco Rubio was too impressive.

  • CAP says:

I am a huge Kelly Pavlik fan and i’m a bit upset how the recent events turned out but i’m sick and tired of all the bashing of Pavlik. I don’t think Espino deserves a shot but i see the fight as a tune up and that’s all Espino will be. I do believe he still wants to fight P.W seeing as he was the one pushing for the fight. Yeah he canceled but he needs to fight P.W at 100 percent. I still believe they will fight next year seeing that P.W wants to stay in the middleweight division and once they do fight, P.W better pray Kelly has a night like he did against Hopkins. If Kelly’s throwing punches, P.W won’t last the 12 rounds. To call him a baby or a poor sportsman is just ignorant. Maybe he should to act like mayweather, then we can say he’s ruining the sport of boxing. Long live MMA.

  • j says:

totally agree with the article i think the ring magazine should strip him of that crown

  • Dan says:

Great article. I agree that Pavlik is not doing boxing any favours, but feel that since the Hopkins defeat he is not a big enough star to ‘ruin’ the sport. I used to like him, but his moaning about the super 6 (jealousy, if you ask me) and his obvious ducking of Williams has made a mockery of a comment he made only a few years ago: ‘I’d fight Godzilla if the money was right’, and has shown him to be a bit of a baby, and a poor sportsman. He’ll be beaten soundly again soon, probably stopped, then we as fans can move on with decent fighters such as the Pacman!
