Pacquiao takes out Cotto: Is Mayweather Next?

By Dennis Broadhurst: After disposing of Miguel Cotto last night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquaio has proved he is the pound for pound number one fighter in boxing, he has taken out a prime welterweight champion by a 12th round TKO and now there can be no excuses that his opponent was over the hill or overrated because Miguel wasn’t and he showed the heart of a lion and a solid chin all night long.
Pacquiao will want to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. to prove that he is the fighter of the generation but it will be an Everest to climb for Manny if he fights Mayweather and also for Mayweather if he signs the contract. Manny would find it hard to fight Mayweather as Floyd would use his skill very well and would be able to outbox Pacquiao if he could establish himself but Mayweather would also find it incredibly hard to fight Pacquiao because the Pacman is so relentless, Mayweather would not be able to use his defence so well for 12 rounds against the super fast, iron fisted Pacman.
I beleive that Pacquiao can beat Mayweather but I also beleive Mayweather can beat Pacquiao, it is 50-50 because Mayweather will be brought into vvery deep waters if he is dragged into a brawl but Manny will also be in deep waters if he cannot catch Mayweather who would try to move and punch. I would favour Pacquiao in the fight as I prefer his style and I am a huge fan of his, in fact I was praying that he would beat Cotto so that we would be sure to see more of him but he would struggle against Mayweather. Despite the struggles that both men would face, this would be the fight of the decade.
So if we imagine that Pacquiao beats Mayweather where does he go in history? Many have stated that he would become the greatest of all time but the smart ones will disagree. I think Manny would/will be a top 20 p4p fighter of all time, he is not better than prime Ali, Pep, Whitaker, Armstrong, Duran, Leonard, Robinson etc.
I think that if Pacquiao faced Willie Pep as a featherweight then he would be out-boxed over twelve rounds, Duran would make it hard for Manny but that would be a war, Leonard would outbox Manny and Robinson would knock Manny out early. There we have it Sugar Ray Robinson at welterweight would KO Manny , that is what I think, Sugar’s super speed and power would obliterate Pacquiao.
Manny has some slight flaws for example lunging forward when he punches can be times and sometimes he leaved his face open and comes on square just asking for a jab in the face. Despite this Pacquaio still deserves a top 20 place if he beats Mayweather, he is clearly the fighter of the age and will go down as one of the best ever. He has one of the most exciting styles ever and I hope he wins every fighter he faces from now. Long live Pacquiao!

Does anyone think Pac can beat Paul Williams? Shane Mosley? I think he should fight them to be the best, but would lose both.
if he beats mayweather then he is top 10 of all time worthy, he may never beat the sugar rays etc but ther also natural welters and great fighters.although manny is still fighting great at this weight guys like sugar ray(both) could outbox him and wouldnt be troubled by his power. pac vs duran would be good though,pep is one the greatest but i wouldnt count manny out on that either.

I am a Cotto fan. Before the fight, Cotto looked superb body showing 8-pack abs better that Pacquiao’s 6-pack abs. Nonetheless, whenever they stood toe-to-toe or side by side, Cotto was clearly the bigger man. I was certain that Cotto’s superiority was the factor. But I was wrong.
Come to the fight. In round one, Cotto his superb skill outboxing Pacquiao. He continued it but all of the sudden, Pacquiao delivered a surprising shots that stunned Cotto. There was a round that Pac even tested Cotto’s strength by allowing him to hit Pac as best as he could. But again, Pacquiao came out excellent and that’s put an exclamation mark on Pacquiao’s greatness. What can I say…
Next. If Pac cannot make a deal with Mayweather, Arum will probably pair Pacquiao with WBA World light middleweight champ Yuri Foreman.
Mayweather already indicated he will fight January or February 2010 probably with a undefeated weltwerweight Saul Alvarez, a 19-year old Mexican.
Cotto can come back to clean up and unify the division. First, Margarito rematch (without plaster gloves) and then Berto or Mosley.
Don’t fool me, and the people here. I know you are not Pacquiao’s fans. You are belittling Pacquiao. I’m older and I have seen all those guys you have mentioned, that you think is better than Pacquiao. Pacquiao is top 20. Are you serious? I can’t imagine if Pacquiao right now is not from the Phillipines and he is from the USA. It sounds like jealousy to me, that a man from the Phillipines is that good. Stop critizicing Pacquiao. Look, what Manny accomplished, no one had done it yet. Yeah, you will give me the name of Armstrong. Dude, boxing evolves, and just like any sports. The trainings and the approached of the game is way different than before. Better yet, don’t compare Manny to those guys because Manny did not fight them. Paquiao is not the same fighter he was when he fought Marquez. He has improved his skills every fight. He would beat Marquez in a rematch, probably even knock him out. Mayweather is good, but so is Paquiao. Only difference is Mayweather doesnt test himself with great and bigger opponents who can hurt him. He said it himself, Marquez is a good little man, Im a great big man. Meaning he cant even pick a (great little man. No matter how much cotto trains he will never be the same fighter. Its a mental problem more than anything and like I said only he knows how he feels. His face now gets swollen and cut like never before of course his not gonna be able to see where the punches are going.I believe its best that cotto just retireds. Manny is a good fighter but I still not believe his the greatest He just chooses his fights correctly and thats my opinion. One thing manny proved that haters believe is not true even possibly by you Mairo is that he has no Chin. I dont care if you think cotto is the same fighter or not even looking at post margarito fights he still packs a punch. Manny absorbed them all and not even fazed. If cotto ven in pre margarito cant hurt pacquiao in welterweight then few can for sure. Worst is he seem to even enjoy it. He has power and very good chin and proved it for the division. Cotto hasn’t been the same fighter since the margarito fight. Its sad to see someone do that to someone. If manny would of fought the older cotto manny would of not had a chance i don’t care what anyone says. First a burnt out oscar then a c average hatton and now a mental and physical hurt cotto due to a cheater margarito.
