Pacquiao Stops Cotto: the Mayweather Duck Clock Begins – News

cotto9By Giancarlo Malinconico: I have stated in many previous boxing articles that Manny Pacquiao would stop Miguel Cotto, and I described the blueprint of how it would happen. Many pundits have made excuses about Pacquiao’s last few opponents, but I have written on many occasions that the Pacman was a different fighter since moving up to 135 pounds. Cotto is a great fighter, and gave Manny trouble early in the fight; But I knew a relentless Manny would eventually stop him.

As far as Floyd “Money” Mayweather is concerned, it is up to him to ensure the fight with the Pacman happens. The Pacman has proven he ducks no one, but Floyd has not been as willing to challenge the best, particularly at welterweight. Instead of fighting Antonio Margarito, Floyd ducked him and opted to fight the obscure journeyman Carlo Baldomir. “Sugar” Shane Mosley called out Mayweather, and surprise, surprise Floyd ducked him as well.

The bottom line, I believe the Pacman would beat Mayweather handily if they were to clash. The Pacman will be able to walkthrough Mayweather’s single shots, and pressure him with combination punching from many angles. I believe Mayweather would end up fighting the way Cotto did in the late rounds against the Pacman, and Pacquiao would cruise to a clear decision victory because Floyd will not want to slug it out with the fast-handed Filipino.

Let us see if Floyd uses the money split or something else as an excuse to avoid fighting Pacquiao. I say 50-50, and let’s get ready to rumble!

YOU HIT THIS RIGHT ON THE BUTTON! MAYWEATHER WILL MAKE BELIEVE HE WANTS TO NEGOTIATE, BUT HE IS NOT INTERESTED IN FIGHTING MANNY. ARUM WILL JUST WASTE HIS TIME WITH THE FLOYD NEGOTIATION. FLOYD WILL SAY THINGS IN PUBLIC TO HYPE HIMSELF AND WILL BACK OFF EVENTUALLY. SIMPLE, HE IS SCARED, LIKE A LITTLE BOY TRYING TO BE IN A MAN’S WORLD.

  • TIKYO says:

Giancarlo : I believe Mayweather would end up fighting the way Cotto did in the late rounds against the Pacman,… YOU ARE WRONG BECAUSE MAYWEATHER WILL RUN AND RUN AND DUCK AND RUN AND DUCK AND RUN AND RUN WHEN BELL RINGS…IF I AM ROACH AND BOB ARUM, I WILL NOT FIGHT MAYWEATHER, I’D RATHER WAIT FOR COTTO’S RETURN MATCH, THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL FIGHT…BECAUSE, MAYWEATHER IS TOUCH AND GO…HE IS NOT A FIGHTER, HE IS A BUSINESSMAN, HE PRACTICE HOW TO MASTER THE TOUCH AND GO TO BECOME A WORLD TITLE….

  • Figthguy says:

Every one that watch the OSCAR DE LA HOYA and Mayweather fight knows Mayweather lost.Ever one that saw the fight with De la Hoya and Pacquiao seen what happen to Oscar. So if pacquiao beat oscar that bad,He beat down mayweather twice is bad.

  • loose b says:

I don’t know how many of you truly no boxing but Floyd Mayweather has not ducked anyone, He has the best defense in the sport and is a better boxer that Manny> Freddie Roach can only teach him what he knows and if you ever saw Freddie box before its not much he was one of the worst fighters in his era he was a human punching bag, that’s why he has Parkensons disease

  • hasbeen says:

Ali fought the very best fighters of his time, he took on all comers. I can’t think of a single fighter that Ali wasn’t willing to fight. Ali did fight a couple of fighters that couldn’t have won except for an act of God. Imo he gave these fighters the biggest paydays of their lives an I see this as a kindness on his part. I don’t hate FM he’s a damn good boxer it’s a shame that he has bad hands. But as far as mentioning him with Ali, he couldn’t lace Ali’s boots.

  • Lebo Bucibo says:

Certainly, someone out there has Floyds number and can beat him. He is the Ali of today because just like his precursor, his career is historically interesting because everyone wants to see him beaten up. He makes PPV blockbusters not because people like him but because they hope for something that is possible but unlikely given his talent. He is making a fortune out of the anti-Mayweather fanaticism. Were there not Ali before him, I would say his life comes straight out of the movies.
I think he is smarter version of Ali who thinks not only inside the ring but outside as well. By the time the seeds of Parkinson Desease have planted in him if ever, he will have left far more legacy for his kids than Ali did. Let us not discredit him for being an astute businessman because he better subject that body to a beating for a good reason.

  • Antonio says:

While Mayweather maybe gifted in the ring, he certainly is NOT Muhammad Ali and WILL have to lose to someone, sometime!

  • Lebo Bucibo says:

Manny’s victories over his last 3 opponents were impressive but people should not get carried away. Floyd is a different proposition, he not a stationary target like Hatton, DLH and Cotto. Not only does he bring matching speed, he also brings the best defence and the best movement in the business. And now that Manny has proven that he a brilliant welterweight, he should stop draining his opponents by demanding that they come to catch weights. He should face floyd at 147 and let the rest be history.

  • Big easy says:

Floyd Mayweather’s days are numbered, come 2010 he will know the meaning of defeat in the hands of Pacquiao!!!

  • wanderer says:

First off, I’m a pacman fan.

With regards to a Mayweather fight. I guess pacman would need to train harder to increase his speed to beat Mayweather.

That is, the speed to chase down Mayweather. We all know that pacman has speed in his fist and punching power. Problem is if he can land those fist in a running Mayweather. So he needs to increase his feet speed to catch RUNNINGMAN Mayweather.

Alex Ariza might want to train pacquaio alongside sprinters for this.

And yeah, regardless of the weight they will decide to fight on, expect Mayweather to be 2 pounds heavier to gain an advantage. That guy is simply not professional. I have to give my hat-off to COTTO for being professional in that matter.

  • kinkoy says:

you are all dreaming….. let both fighters ink d contract first b4 giving ur predictions….hanggaw!!

  • HSS says:

Some say that pacquiao doesnt even know how to box well he is not a boxer he is a fighter and mayweather is a boxer but nowadays people want action like ufc so i say pacquiao should get more than mayweather. Marquez and mayweather fight was not as exciting as pacquiao and cotto anyone agrees???

  • ong says:

whenever pacman’s fight, there’s always against these humble warrior from the philippines… why dont you idiot’s like iam and perez as dumb as mayweather… he (mayweather) will duck against these truly p4p KING in the world… wanna BET???

  • Cotito_combate says:

That old man next to Pacquiao is unknown to boxing. Why he is there, no one knows. But I see his face whenever Pacquiao is lifted for victory.

I’m guessing he is another political figure who likes to be aligned with victors – just for photo ups.

  • Daveyboy says:

    What a ridiculous article.
Prize fighting is made based on a combination of risk/reward, business, legacy and in-that-time demand.
Baldomir was not some “obscure” journey man but was the linear and WBC welterweight champion, who had defeated Zab Judah. Had Mayweather not faced him he would have been accused of ducking him.
Margarito had nothing to offer, beating him would not have given Floyd credit at the time and holding his then at the time 4th WBC belt gave better negotiating leverage for the up coming fight with ODLH.
As for the Ducking Shane Mosley scenario you described, you should really do a little bit more research before committing pen to paper.
Why can’t you enjoy what is emerging and will emerge – the biggest fight in history in 2010 without the arm chair warrior hatred?

  • golddusk says:

I hope the fight will happens, but only time will tell. Floyd is a very skilled “BOXER” who who has thus far been unbeatable. No matter what you think of him as a person, his record speaks for itself. Every fighter he fights is going to be the one that beats him, but the results have been the same. Cotto showed that a fighter with a good jab can keep Pacman at a distance, Cotto had his mind set on brawling and that’s when it when downhill. You also gott remember Floyd is very discipline and will jab move jab, not get in a hurry, “run” if he needs to. You guys gotta remember it’s boxing not fighting. Score the most points and you win. I’m not pulling for any particular fighter, I just want a fight that is enjoyable and goes the distance. ie: i wanna get my damn moneys worth. I see all the floyd bashing that’s why I speaking on his behalf.

  • Big easy says:

I think the best option for Money mayweather is to retire, because only Lord knows what pacman has planned for him. “A vicious beating” while retaining the name as the “Baddest man on the Planet”

  • Belden says:

I’m sorry to say but manuel perez is actualy accurate in his prediction of the fight…. with one minor detail. Replace the word cotto with pacquiao and vice versa then read all his articles again.

  • Belden says:

Cotto trained to beat a speedster for 2 months roach knew this. So Roach made a boulder instead through kick-boxing body hardening technique popular in asia and cotto has no more game plan because he found out his body punches dont work anymore.

When you have no more game plan i dont care if the margarito fight never happened you will lose.

  • OwenKORowe says:

    where is manuel perez now?????

no doubt he will join the long list of writters back tracking on their promise to shut up and

    f.u.c.k off!!!!

  • bilabong says:

Manny is a bad mamajama, one of the best ever, but Mayweather technique and counter skills is unmatched, could go either way, but me thinks Mayweather wins on points and is going the distance. Put money on it.

  • benzo says:

    somebody please fight mosley

  • Anonymous says:

To anyone who knows anything about boxing would clearly understand that Floyd is hands down the best. Floyd has not ducked anyone. Everyone has ducked Paul Williams and Pac refused to fight Shane instead wanted to fight Cotto who does not do well against top ranked opponents. Floyd will be too fast, too smart and too strong for Pac!

  • Hugh says:

Mr. “No Balls” Mayweather in no way shape or form could ever beat the Pacman…no power to handle him…finally Mayweather has no place to duck…the world demands it…it’s Pacman or retire!!!

I won’t be suprised he out-bids himslef in the negotiations to avoid this clash…hope not but wonlt be suprised if he does!

  • Ronin says:

Mayweather will fight a wait and see approach, using his counterpunching and speed. He has NO POWER he cannot hurt Manny. Mayweather will not even fight Cotto, Mayweather has a tendency to fight people who are not on top, if he did he would have fought moseley years ago. He does not care about public opinion He lives in his own head and carefully picked opponents, he will not fight dangerous opponents. Manny is dangerous to him, that fight will be boring anyway because floyd will run, not fight. He will try to win on points. Manny have proven to be the ultimate warrior. Hopefully Mayweather will try to challenge himself this time.

  • rich says:

a think ppl are using the word coward to describe mayweather a bit freely, first of all any boxer who steps in the ring on a professional level is far from a coward… also mayweather is undoubtablly talented and has faced top opposition at lower weights… lets not forget he started out at 125, maywetaher corrales was one of the best fights i have ever watched and i have never seen anythin like the defensive skills he showed off when fighting N’dou… small guys have major problems getting to maywetaher never was this more evident than in his last fight… also welterweight judah can hardly be considered as a push over

  • Guest says:

Aloy – that joke was really bad, ‘Hell FMW is so chicken he should just endorse Kentucky Fried Chicken!’ for that I am going to lower myself to your unfunny level and rewrite one of your previous sentences.
Sadly in 500 years, this terrible joke will be condemned to being another joke in the Worlds Worst Jokes book.

  • Aloy says:

By the way how many rounds did it take FMW to beat Hatton? How many did it take the Pacman? How may times did Floyd drop Marquez? How many times did the Pacman drop Marquez? We are looking at this wrong, FMW needs to fight the Pacman but the Pacman doesn’t really need to fight FMW – the PAcman doesn’t need to prove anything but FMW certainly does… unless FMW really is CHIKEN dipped in YELLOW gravy..

  • Roy says:

I think Floyd’s huge ego is up now. IMO he bristles at all the fuss being made over Manny. My hunch is Floyd is actually eager to get it on. As to the outcome, I see Floyd as being at a whole different level from any of the fighters Manny has ever fought so far. And while Manny continues to improve and impress, Floyd was blessed with more natural ability than any fighter I’ve seen in years AND he works HARD to keep his A game going at all times. I pick Floyd over Manny on points.

  • Aloy says:

Hell FMW is so chicken he should just endorse Kentucky Fried Chicken!

  • Aloy says:

In the end it won’t matter as the PAcman is still the greates fighter of this era – the reason is that the Pacman has HEART while Mayweather is a coward… So who cares if Mayweather may be faster, stronger, and bigger than the Pacman? Great warriors are known for thier courage and not for thier lack of it – think of the names that have been remembered in history… Alexander the Great, Achilles, Beouwulf… sadly in a 500 years Mayweather will just be a name written in the boxing hall of fame book…

  • Clay says:

I doubt if the Pacman can beat the skillfull Mayweather. You must remember boxing is a skill. And think Mayweather has all the tools the Pacman has plus a little extra dazzle and skill. It would be an ineresting fight but I still think Mayweather is a more craftier fighter.

  • aidwan says:

i hate mayweather, but i do respect him as an athlete, but i think his time is up and he cant duck out of this fight, boxing needs this fight and i am backing pacquiao all the way!

  • Anonymous says:

What i don’t understand is why people think FMW can knock the hell out of Pacman when he can’t even finish Marquez. come on guy be realistic! Pacman can knock FMW, but i just cant see Floyd knocking out Pacman. FMW can win by point decision and thats about it, but Pacman has more chances of winning this fight in KO. And beside F Roach call out Mayweather coz he knows they can beat him.

  • Anonymous says:

I don’t know about you guys but i rather see Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley. We know Pac vs FMW is going to be a boring fight. If Cotto is fast,FMW is faster running around the ring. It’s like watching the last 5round of last night fight. Atlist with Shane we know we’re going to see some action. I believe Pacquiao can win against FMW thats why Roach asking for it. But i think its going to be a boring mega fight. Anyway i also wanted to see Pac beating the hell out of FMW even in decision

  • Jake318 says:

FORGET ABOUT DUCK… WHERE IS PEREZ TO EAT CROW!!!LOL

MAYWEATHER IS A HEADCASE HE IS SO AFRAID OF LOSING HIS -0- HE WONT FIGHT PAC .

WHO HAS MAYWEATHER FOUGHT ? HIS OPPONENTS HAVE ALL BEEN LIGHTWEIGHT/SMALL JR WELTERS OR OVER THE HILL HAS BEENS

  • Shelton says:

I had this wrong but the pattern was right. I said that there was a reason that pac and froch took after seeing cotto’s horrible performance against clottey live. No one talks about how manny was called out countless time by mosley even agreeing to his ridicilous demand such as fighting for the 147 Lb title at 140. Mosley was fresh off beating Marigato and would have been a bigger fight and for the 147 Lbs linear title. So why fight cotto instead of mosley is it because I watched an interview on you where froch says that shane would be an exciting but tough fight. The truth is pacquiao is the people’s champion and mayweather is a d*ckhead so when manny doesn’t a fight that ok but when PBF doesn’t he a ducker. Floyd is the jack*ss, the bad guy, we want see him get beat, we want that smile whipped off his face so we make up excuse to why he is not great but he is we know but will never say it and will convince ourself that he a chicken or bully or any other excuse. He cause mischief in the media, talk trash, draw us in, take the fight after that, make us hate him, win, collect a big check, and secertly laugh at us because we were just played. Remember this words it will happen. Peace

  • Dave says:

    Hella

Come back and call Ian an idiot after the Mayweather Manny fight, which by the way WILL happen. Mayweather will make manny look like an idiot all night long FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just hope you will be on here after Mayweather knocks manny out and hear what your excuses are gunna be. You truely know nothing at all about the sport of boxing do you?

  • Dewi Powell says:

Shane Mosley ducked Mayweather actually. After his second fight with Vargas he said he didn’t want to fight Mayweather because of a loose tooth and he wanted a holiday. 100% true go to youtube and watch it.

  • the REAL deal says:

if pacquiao beats mayweather ill cry

  • El_Rey says:

I like Mayweather because of his talent. However, Mayweather doesn’t really care what his fans want or boxing fans period because it’s all about business to him. IMO, he is wasting his talent not fighting the best. Granted he made so much money already, but if you look at his record he has not challenge the best welter or super welter today. Okay, you’re going to come back with De la Hoya, Juda, and Baldomer (please!!!). He should fight Pacquiao for the glory not just about the money, and if he thinks he can easily beat Pacquiao, why not get paid for it and at the same time shut all his critics. After that fight, he should fight the winner of Berto vs. Moseley. Oh well, let’s see what happens in the next few months perhaps they come in to terms and make the Pacquiao fight happen. I miss the old school boxing where the best fights the best out there. .. so much respect for Cotto and Pacquiao for fighting the best out there.

  • AnthonyW says:

I couldnt choose the winner of this fight before hand. I had either Cotto winning early, or Pacquiao winning late.
Great fight. Although Cotto lost last night, he gained a lot of new fans and proved his critics wrong. Everyone said he was a quitter and he had no heart, but he took a lot of punishment and still kept coming back. I thought the least the ref could have done was let him complete the 12, although it only takes one punch to cause permanent damage.
Pacquiao was great last night, he fought well in bursts and made Cotto come out of his comfort zone and make big mistakes.
I honestly believe that if Cotto had kept his head and boxed smartly like he did in the first round, the fight would have been a lot closer. Before the fight, I thought Pacquiao would be the one looking to jump straight back in after he was hit by Cotto. However, when Pacquiao hit Cotto cleanly, Cotto lost it and tried trading with wild shots and no defense, if you look back this is what caused the most damage to Cotto. But he was doing a lot better when he boxed from the centre of the ring.

As for Pacquiao v Mayweather. Everyone has there opinion, but as has been mentioned in these comments before, styles make fights. Pacquiao does well against boxers who come to trade, he picks them off with counters and then goes on the offense with his fast combinations. But, boxers who adopt that same strategy against him, cause him a lot of problems. For example, both Marquez bouts (I believe Marquez won the second bout), and the first Morales bout.
Pacquiao has improved a great deal since these fights, but I don’t believe he can pull it off against Mayweather. People are mentioning Pacquiao’s speed in being a key factor in the fight, but Mayweather isnt slow either. He probably has the quickest reactions in avoiding punches and the best defense in the game.
The problem for Pacquiao and Roach will be trying to hit and corner Mayweather to land fast combinations (along the same lines as Castillo – first fight). Mayweather’s stats are incredible after every fight, no one can touch him with great regularity. I believe Mayweather will just popshot him all night long, everyone would say this would be boring, but against an offensive machine in Pacquiao, any victory against him you would have to give him credit.

  • Frank Baloney says:

Pacman v mayweather won’t happen. Mayweather won’t take less than 50/50 split and pacman won’t agree to that. Shame, as it’s THE fight out there right now. Well done to PAC, he looks immense. Cotto did look on the smallish side but that’s no excuse, he looked very ordinary in there and that was all down to the pacman. He truly does look amazing at that weight and has more power than ever before!!!

  • ashishwarrior says:

so excuses start here was cotto to old shot fighter maybe he was weight drained dehydrated unprepared hatton wanted cotto to win so he could maybe get an easyier shot at pound 4 pound title he is sh1t pdf should get in line and earn his shot and when he gets it and is made to look scared and loses quite badly you can all say yeah but pbf didnt have his walking stick ffs

  • speed kills says:

Wow an excellent performance from pacman makes cotto seem like a step over!
With all due respect to cotto who is a great fighter, Pacman was too good for him on the night.
Pacman is the p4p king at the minute and as good as mayweather is he will have a handful to deal with the pacman. I genuinely believe that it would be a 50 – 50 fight as both boxers bring exceptional talents to the ring. pacman with the fastest attack and mayweather with the best defence! this fight needs to happen in next 6 months.

  • Mr T says:

surely money mayweather needs to earn the right to fight the best fighter in the world!
we all know he is great but its hardly fair on the other guys that after 2 years out he has 1 hand picked fight then gets his shot!
well done to pac man and respect to cotto for being a true fighter and wanting to fight the best and not ducking unlike some one eles..

  • ger says:

the pacmans 4th 5th and 6th rounds just took the power out of cotto, anything cotto hit pac wit after that had no effect. His phenominal speed took the fight away from cotto, and in my opinion as a huge cotto fan, miguel done well to last as long as he did. In the case of mayweathers defence, manny is just 2 fast. He is a freak of nature.

  • Anonymous says:

    speak manuel and perez! speak!!!

yo ian!!! are brain damage????????????manny second best in the world?1st ever boxer with 7 titles in 7 weight division, second in the world?get yourself in rehab!!!!!!you officially join the idiots club not only a regular idiot club.best idiot club in the world.

  • JD says:

Floyd will probably set conditions that makes the fight impossible, i.e a 60/40 or 70/30 split and a catch weight of 150 or 152.

  • Dave says:

maywethter will fight him and beat manny UD

hatton will now come back knowing he isnt crap just manny is one of the best

  • trevez17 says:

Mayweather is in his own league. Pacquiao is a star and I mean that, what he did 2 Miguel Cotto was out of this world I mean that, but the blueprint of beating Mayweather is yet to be discovered…he’s 40-0 and can not be hit at all, his defence and boxing skills and reflexes are genius. It’s gotta be a split in favour of Mayweather if the fight is to be made.

    Mayweather v Pacquiao 2010.

  • Aries says:

Still Waiting for Manuela Perez and Liama Santiaga Articles…

Can’t wait to hear their excuses…

  • Andy says:

Which writer on this site said they would quit if Cotto loses?

  • Dom says:

Mayweather would box the ears off Pacquiao, he would punish Manny all night long!! Pts win for Floyd

  • ISKA says:

if you know Manuel Perez & others like him, pls sing this to them (to the tune of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”:

    “For he’s a stup*d d&mb fellow
    For he’s a stup*d d&mb fellow
    For he’s a stup*d d&mb fellow

    That no one can’t deny
    That no one can’t deny…”

  • RMC says:

I take my Hat off to Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto what a fantastic fight, it was well worth the sleepless night! Both men were true warriors. I will admit I got my pick wrong! I honestly thought Cotto at WW would be too much for Manny that step too far! But the Manny train rolls on and in devastating fashion, based on a performance like that I would have to say a fight against Floyd is mouth watering, but one I feel Floyd will now try to avoid. Again hat off to the man fro Manilla.

  • Saad says:

cotto’s not bigger than pacman. he’s merely an inch taller, has the same reach as pacquiao and weighed about as much in this fight.

he’s not bigger than Pacman at all. Hatton and Hoya WERE bigger. not cotto.

  • mark f says:

Message for anomynous, Pacman fought Marquez at his best and both at a similar weight, Mayweather cherry picked him @ the age of 35, and Floyd still came in a lot heavier though having to give up 700k of a 10million, for Money Mayweather that really is goin in the trenches

  • ALAN BOSWORTH says:

all we can hope 4 BOBBYBOO is the fight happens

  • BobbyBoo says:

AlAN BOSWORTH……All our opinions are indeed unique…Lol….BUT COME ON Son….you said Pac-man brings his amazing fitness to the table, yes he does bring that as well, yr right…..BUT PBF is truly amazingly fit too.

  • ross says:

The fight has got to happen

If mayweather wants his p4p spot back

  • ALAN BOSWORTH says:

the buzz saw pacman was awsume, southpaw lightning speed was 2 much 4 cotto.mayweather wont want any part of that, mayweather is truely gifted but i think he wont handle the southpaw speed and amazeing fitness pac brings with him.i personaly cant see pac v mayweather happening.pac dont care who they put in front of him,but pbf wants silly deals so the fight wont happen.thers one thing 4 sure, wot ever weght pbf wanted pac can do it.135 140 147 ect.in boxing theres always another who as your number and pacquiao would have mayweathers

  • Saad says:

great fight. Props for Manny and wish him all the best against Mayweather.
as Cotto, well, time will tell whats instore for this warrior. win lose or draw, Cotto always carries himself with dignity. that’s why i’ll always be a fan of his. above all though, I respect his courage. Miguel Cotto proved that he’s no quitter. The moment he walked out of the 11th round standing, he not only proved Roach wrong about his KO predictions but also proved people wrong who said he has no heart. from the 2nd round till the 12th, Cotto was all heart and courage. he never gave up at any moment.

  • UkanSodOff says:

I dont know what to say about last nights fight, Pacman was just fantastic, i wasnt sure how it was guna pan out but of all the scenarios i went through 12 rounds of near dominance was not one of them.

BUT, Roach seems to be pickin opponants with great reputations but are all a little slow, slow enough for Pacmans speed to be a real key factor in the fight. DLH was slow, Hatton never even moved and Cotto looked slow. I know Pacman makes them look slow but thats cuz they wernt fast to begin with.

Mayweather is anytihng but slow. I know how good he is and i know hes a ducking chicken too. But this one may be too tempting for him in the end.

  • Anonymous says:

“pac man has fought the same guys as pbf and beat them in better fashion. so no he is not near mayweather cause he is way better then mayweather.”

What the f*ck?? You are a complete idiot, did you not see how Mayweather dealt with Marquez compared 2 Pacquiao?? Styles make fights, anyone who knows anything about boxing could tell u that u complete idiot haha :)

  • bigred1 says:

This fight restored my faith in big time boxing after watching UFC 105. Pacquiao is, or is near, to being the greatest boxer of all time. To move up in weight 5 times and beat (or in most cases thrash) the geniune best in each division hasn’t happened in boxing before. If he goes on to beat Mayweather (who no doubt will hold on for dear life once Pac gets close, as he did with Hatton), we must consider this great athlete probably the greatest all round champion of the modern boxing era. We’re privileged to be witnesses to such a fighter.

  • BobbyBoo says:

“Some of youz know s**t about boxing”……Pac-man v PBF…Floyd wins by jabbing, slipping and hugging all night long…itll be a very boring fight to watch but PBF pips in on the scorecards, his accuracy is truly amazing as youve seen, (he rarely misses target). LIKE US THE FANS, “PBF knows he cant get macho and trade with Pac-man” (should he do this, PBF will get sparked) Floyd adapts very well to any style, knows how to win and most importantly catches the judges eyes with his supreme accuracy and defence…..IF FLOYD IS FLOYD he will take his brain, as he does, and box Pac-man beautifully into defeat!!! Points win for PBF. REMEMBER IVE TOLD YOUZ

  • Dom says:

I hate Floyd but he willk defeat Pacquiao.
Mayweather love him or hate him is the best fighter ou there, he will make Manny look foolish.

  • ah ah ah says:

YOU ARE THE ONLY WRITER HERE WITH SENSE!!! WHERE IS LIAM SANTIAGO AND MANUEL PEREZ NOW? THOSE TWO ARE PROVEN DUMB AGAIN BY MANNY!!!

  • guest says:

    AND the ducking begins….

Manny Pacquiao, fresh off his 11 round tko victory of Miguel Cotto is the talk of the town, and buzz and demand for a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao super fight are everywhere.

In a recent article by Dave Mayo of the The Grand Rapids Press, Floyd Mayweather Sr. still believes Manny Pacquiao is on performance enhancing drugs and had this to say about a future Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.:

“If Floyd wants a really big payday he’s going to have to fight him next,” Mayweather Sr. said. “But if it was me, I wouldn’t fight him. Whether I could whip him or not, I wouldn’t fight him, because things ain’t right. I’m pretty sure that’s what it is.”

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is open to making the match up happen as long as Floyd Mayweather Jr. handles negotiation in a professional manner and not in the media or papers.

    Ian and KillaMan,

You don’t need to be a cheerleader because Manny proves it in the ring with his hands not his mouth like Mayweather.

To be the best you have to beat the best.

Manny just beat Cotto, who beat Mosely.

Now that doesn’t necessarily mean Manny would beat Mosely cause I don’t believe in that transitive a>b>c crap.

But Mosely called out PBF? And what does PBF have to say? Excuses. Steroids. Over the hill. Needs a paycheck. (Not that a 36 year old, fat Marquez wasn’t over the hill in that weight division) By the way I think Marquez is a great fighter at his usual fighting weight.

But Manny and Cotto don’t duck fights. They fight the best guys that are put in front of them.

When was the last time PBF done that?

Can’t wait for more excuses from Mayweather fans.

BRING THEM ON. Let’s hear your lame excuses. Let’s hear your lame proclamations of PBF’s greatness.

But until his hands do the talking, it’s just noise at this stage in his career. Hot air from a guy who no longer wants to be tested.

where are all those pacman doubters?PEREZ and SANTIAGO

  • no balls says:

where are this liar prophet (Liam & Perez) i hope they start packing thier belonging now and start looking for a new job?

  • qtip says:

love the title, “mayweather duck clock begins!” never even thought of that after tonight’s match. all i think about is to see pac-floyd fight but not the thought of floyd ducking. haha i hope they can make this happen.

  • belowthebelt says:

Well, I can admit that this time around, I got it wrong !

I expected Cotto to take over in the second half of the fight and stop Pacman, but it went the other way …

All respect to Pacman, he pulled off a good win. However, Mayweather – that is a different league altogether !! All this talk about Mayweather ducking Pacman is laughable to me … Mayweather is on another planet compared to other fighters out there – he proved this against Marquez after a two year layoff ….Pacman wouldn’t manage anyting better against Mayweather than others have done ( and that’s not much, is it ?! ).

Pacman would loose to Mayweather … but possibly on a points loss. However, if Mayweather wants to really make a statement in what would be mega fight, I think he would go all out to flatten Pacman to leave no doubts in anyone’s mind about his legacy !

  • Floyd Jr. says:

Cmon’ Pacquiao man has to fall in line behind Darchinyan and Calderon. Pacquiao man has also to go up to 147 and I get at least the 60/40 split.

  • Alexander says:

Its so funny reading these articles and comments which are all written by armchair warriors, to me its obvious that Floyd does not fight anyone who he believes has a chance to beat him…..he only ever picks fighters who are blemished or never were….the Pacman is the real deal…..he fights to win no matter who he fights……..

  • An Honest Pacman Fan says:

All due respect to Cotto for giving all his got. But everything goes to the #1 pound for pound king for yet again proving why he is deserving of the title. For Mayweather, there is now way he should get 50 on the split when Pacman obviously can draw a crowd and he should get to call the shots. And lastly, to all the haters, what’s the reason this time????

  • Anonymous says:

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will be boring, Mayweather will just jog away to avoid Manny…kind of like what Cotto did the last 3 rounds with Manny

  • Eric Son says:

Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao! Good fight between with Miguel Cotto.
Manuel Perez & Liam Santiago…keep on dreaming!

  • Anonymous says:

pac man has fought the same guys as pbf and beat them in better fashion. so no he is not near mayweather cause he is way better then mayweather.

  • BranMan says:

Unlike Cotto, where the speed differential was just too large, Mayweather will not get overly aggressive and will continue to box utilizing his fast hands and he will punish Manny for his mistakes (whereas Cotto was just too slow to take advantage of some wild misses). I can see this fight not being nearly as entertaining as Pac vs Cotto, but with a clear winner in Floyd.

  • Next In Line says:

The money is going to be right. Should have no problem with that. Mayweather Jr. should’ve taken the fight the first time, right after coming out of retirement. Manny back then didn’t have defense like he does now. He is now more powerful than ever before. The intelligence factor is now higher than before, he’s no longer just a brawler. He can box too with multiple combinations and from mulitple angles. We’ve seen him take the hardest shots from welterweight divison and he smiled. His foot speed has greatly improved. If I was Mayweather I would’ve taken the fight back then, now the beast is faster, SMARTER, and more powerful than before. It was even back then…I guess greed gets the best of us.

  • KillaMan says:

    No Hella,

It means you’re just a cheerleader…. do you want to cite a source about this so called article of Mayweather not wanting to fight Pac? Mayweather calls the shots not you. If the money is right they’ll be a fight!!!!

  • hella says:

oh wait i mean ian has proven that he is the number one pound for pound idiot in the world.

  • hella says:

ian has now proven that he is an idiot.

  • hella says:

nowboxing has an article indicating that the floyd camp wouldn’t want to get into a fight with the pacman. floyd sr. is already setting the tone that mayweather doesn’t want to fight, they are ducking already.

  • Ian says:

Manny has now proven he is the second best in the World, but he is still no where near Mayweather.

  • KillaMan says:

Check Mayweather’s Stats…. Yeah he’s undefeated… Furthermore, if you think an undisciplined brawler can beat a Boxer with supreme discipline you all are just pom pom wavers. you guys need to put your money where your mouths are.

    BTW good fight Pac-Man.

  • bakuts says:

mayweather……… he will retire again bcoz…..he is a true yellow

  • Da Contender says:

Mayweather will only fight him if the money is right, but agreed, will try to avoid him as long as he can, but really if PBF wants to go down as the great of all time he needs to face pacman, who is now the best p4p in the world officially. One word of caution, do not expect manny to just walk through PBF, he has proved that he can adapt to any style and can make you miss, and look bad doing so. This would be a very intriguing fight. Hopefully we get to see it…

  • perko says:

great win by manny pac , no a all time legendary victory, took cotto out to the deep end and drown him but against pretty boy hes meeting a fighter with faster defensive speed than pac , cant just try to over-whelm floyd with in and out speed combos because he will get timed with counters over and over again . roach and manny have to come up with a different game plan / style to beat the money man – let floyd be the aggressor and manny the counterpuncher.

  • Gani says:

Mayweather is a coward, I don’t think he will fight Pacquiao.

  • Peter(Hitman Fan) says:

Agree that Floyd will try to duck him, but they’d never go the distance, Manny would get him out of their in 10 rounds, Felt pretty sorry for Cotto, looked a bit of a mess, so where’s he go now?
