Pacquiao-Cotto: I Just Can’t Decide

pac5434333By Peter Wells: Despite my article earlier in the week, saying I predicted Manny Pacquiao to take a close points decision. Well suddenly reading all these articles, from boxing websites and magazines, and watching the HBO Pacquiao-Cotto 24/7 series, I’ve suddenly had a blank. It’s a fight I can see going either way, but it could be one of those fights were anyone can win.

One round Cotto’s pounding Pacquiao with left hooks, and next thing you know Pacman’s slamming in hard combinations on Miguel’s chin. It could end up being a flash knockout, were one of the fighters is going to get the perfectly timed shot and get the KO, and I honestly don’t know who that’ll be.

When this fight was first announced, I went for Manny straight away, mainly because of his superior speed advantage, and seeing Cotto, slightly struggle to be Joshua Clottey. Suddenly I don’t know if my own prediction will be right, and I just couldn’t pick between the two. Cotto looks in the greatest shape of his life, and has been training for over a month more than Pacquiao, but Manny looks stronger and quicker than ever. I doubt now that it’ll come down to who is the better fighter, more of who can get the best punch in at the right time. I can only predict that this will be a cracker, and won’t disappoint at all. I also don’t really have a favourite here, so I can’t go with my heart, and my brain can’t decide who will have their name read out at the end of the bout.

It could well be a very bloody battle in which both fighters will leave with their battle scars, but both will walk out with their heads held high.

jc, it’s always not wise to look past your opponent, but cotto’s fast fight with margarito was not an ordinary fight! that was a devasting figth that leaves a fighter damages. and by its showing its effect so far. the old undamages cotto would have taken clottey out by the 10th. this is just my openion after watching how he now figth mentally.

but he is skill and physically dangerous, but not as a threat for manny like floyd will be.

i will be officailly saying here now hours before the fight, that cotto should have retired after the margarito…..

miguel is a shot boxer, looking forward to the war with floyd, now that is i am xcited about.

all hell will be let loose!

still good luck to your fighter!

… and carl froch, please, saying that Manny is just a superior athlet just tell how poor is your knowledge in boxing.

    flash elorde:

That’s my point, you all are expecting see Cotto as the last few fights, including Manny and Fredy Roach, and that’s the first and biggest mistake in this case.

Manny’s team overconfidence. Watch closely tonight and learn.

  • carl froch says:

Manny will win inside 6 rounds. Cotto has hear but his corner will throw in the towel with the amount of punishment he takes. Overall Manny is faster, better footwork and just a superior athlete.

  • flash elorde says:

jc, do you think six months will make cotto any different than the way he fought clottey? do you think that’s how cotto use to fight? no excuses just observations.

  • JC says:

The fight is closer and Manny’s fans are starting to look for other excuses about Cotto’s performance, now is that he have to fight himself.

Every fighter have to. Do you think Manny is not worry about tonight? I think he better be.

  • flash elorde says:

does a fighter-warrior really fully mentally recover from a devastating beating with a stone-gloves. i think cotto will be figthing manny and himself in the ring. worst for cotto is if margarito will be ringside to watch this fight. i just do not see the old cotto anymore.
so the edge to pac, cause this will be all about the mental fight. that is just my take.

  • JC says:

If you need help, Cotto by KO in 10

  • Dave says:

to be fair who cares who wins this is possibly the besy match up in the last 5 years

  • UkanSodOff says:

yeah ive just given up tryin to predict this one, ive changed my mind that many times im just guna sit back and enjoy it.

  • belowthebelt says:

Well, allow me to do it for you … Cotto by KO !!

  • HGD says:

Pacquiao couldn’t knock down a defenceless DLH, so I don’t think he’ll be able to defeat a guy who has good defence and is close to his prime(Cotto), and who’ll wait for any openings (something Pacman will give him plenty of). After watching 24/7, it seems like Pacquiao has started to read into his own hype. Expect Pacman to come after Cotto early like he did to Hatton, only for Cotto to take the early onslaught with little damage and slowly wear him down. Depending on Pacquiao’s heart, he could be finished anywhere from the 8th onwards.

  • DEL-BOY says:

pac mans speed will be the key but if cotto can find manny hes more than capable of the ko ive alot of respect for both of them good luck guys.

    manny rnd 6
