I think that everyone is missing the bigger picture here because the media along with the fighters involved aren’t telling the true unofficial weights the day of if not hours before, the actual fight. The only fight we can look in which the unofficial weights were revealed was the Pacquiao De La Hoya fight where De La Hoya weighed in at 148 unofficially. Word is that Pacquiao is putting stipulations in the fight contracts, deterring opponents from rehydrating, making them forfeit hefty amounts of their purse for each pound. The opponent can’t weigh a certain amount the day of if not hours before the fight, basically keeping the opponent dehydrated, and having a huge advantage over them. No one is talking this! Pacquiao can beat any fighter dehydrated.

i think the manny being GOAT is ridiculous to be honest.
Ali and Sugarray fought the best of their era without catchweights and fought WARS in the ring. the last war manny was in was against marquez years aago and he barely made it out of that one. no comparison.

Rocky marciano was undefeated and had a higher KO rate. no comparison again.

manny hasn’t even fought the “best” (a term i use with a lot of cynicism) of his own era yet: Floyd Lameweather.

so please, leave the GOAT theories for now. he conquered 7 weight divisions and that DEFINITELY puts him amongst the best. but not the best. sorry.

Response to 33: I really wanna know why you arent a fan of Manny’s. u say that you arent, but then admit that you like to watch him fight. i think it will be years after Manny retires where people (not filipino) really appreciate and understand what kinda fighter Manny is. I’m a Manny fan of course but my opinion of him just goes beyond of being biased. i have see many sports legends in my young time and Manny’s talent ranks with all of them in his respective sport. You want to bring up his competition (or lack there of according to you) not being good enough. Well he DOMINATES them. and he makes it fun to watch. Dont even bring up Whitaker and Chavez like he isnt better than them. dont act like their resumes and opponents were ALL hall of fame material. your acting like fighters in the past were superhuman compared to the ones doing it now. you think that probably because Boxing will never be where it once was in this country in terms of popularity. but these are the fighters doing it RIGHT NOW, TODAY. The best in the world while we are all still breathing.

Yes Im serious obviously your not to familiar with boxing. I fought in the gloves @ 122. I’d weigh that after working out in the gym the next day I’d weigh nearly lightweight and I did’nt do nothing but eat normal just a fyi. Let me explain because you did’nt understand. The 2 pounds was nothing because Cotto weighed in @ 146.5 for all his fights since he moved up to welter but not being able to put on the usual weight that he usually puts on by the night of the fight was not there that night so that was not Cotto at full strenght at 100% which affected his power and resistance. If people and boxing dont notice that then I dont know! There was no unofficial weight when they showed the tale of the tape the night of the fight except what they weighed in @ 144 vs. 145. I went to the fight in Vegas and went to the weigh-in and on the night of the fight Cotto looked exactly the same. Please common!
Im going to say this that if any fighter in the welterweight division agrees to these catchweight stipulations and are not allowed to put on the usual weight they normally do by the night of the fight they wiil all lose Mosely,Berto and Floyd etc.. to Pac. Why because it wiil affect there strength and speed for Floyd his legs and defense and Pac will get him in the later rounds due to him being drained like he did Cotto.

i think the only thing blown out of proportion is how everyone’s saying Manny beat a “bigger fighter”. miguel is NOT bigger than manny. he’s 5″7 while manny’s 5″6 and he’s got a bigger waistline. period.

Big Gatten – When did you become a fan of Pacquiao, when he beat De la Hoya? or maybe Hatton?

It seems a lot of people are jumping onto his success and rating him the Greatest of All Time, being caught up in the hype. He can be considered the greatest of this era and that is it. When he or any other top modern boxer start fighting more than 2-3 times a year, and achieve what Robinson, Duran, Hagler, Hearns and Leonard achieved, then they can be considered one of the Greatest of All Time.

Are you still not convinced that the Pacman is the best boxer of all time? Inspite of the Pacman beating all the rated boxers and winning 7 different weight divisions in boxing, he is still no good on your eyes. I guess, even if he beat Mayweather this people will have their excuses. This people will never really accept the fact that Pacman is the best pound for pound boxer of all time because they are all JEALOUS, JEALOUS, JEALOUS.

wow are serious ur trying to tell me that gaining 2 pounds come fight night is being weight drained lol, thats what ur suppose to be gaining around 2 to 3 pounds. being weight drained is what happened to oscar when he gained over 5 pounds come fight night. cotto has been fighting at 147 for a while now, 2 pounds doesnt do anything, trust me. oscar in the other hand was a natural 160 who had to go down to 147. everyone is trying to say how the 2 pounds makes a lot of difference, yes to guys like oscar who have to go down a lot to make weight, but cotto is not like oscar, he can even go down to 140 and do well in that division.

Cotto weighed in at 145 we all agree on this and was’nt a problem but what did he weigh the night of the fight? I hear he was weighing no more than 147! When has Cotto weighed in at 147 the night of the fight since he moved up to welterweight?,NEVER! Always in the mid 150′s at minimum. So if anyone knows the fight game everyone knows the night of the fight no matter the weight division a fighter puts significant weight. Examples:
126 division by fight night weighing 135
135 division by fight night weighing 140
140 division by fight night weighing 147
147 division by fight night weighing 154
Cotto was drained period the night of the fight.Manny put a couple of pounds on over his junior welter division then by fight night was weighing in the mid high 140′s where he’s at full strenght while Cotto was starched not allowed to put on the usual weight that puts on. Pretty sure that it was a stipulation in the conttracts us the fan dont know about but Cotto agreed to those terms and Mann did what he had to do was the genuinely 100% competitiveness between both fighters, I think not! More like 110% Manny vs 85% Cotto………………….

and that 7th title makes him The Greatest Asian Fighter Ever! but it doesnt make him great. im not taking away anything from him but let’s be honest, his wins against DLH, Hatton, and Cotto are good but you know he didi’nt fight DLH in his prime, Hatton has always been over rated and Cotto is and has never been an elite fighter. Pac is exciting and fun to watch but u just cant compare him to Robinson or Chavez these two guys alone have fought more talent than Pac will ever fight and like i said the good thing is that he can still prove he is great. but if ur a Pac fan then you know that counter punchers/boxers are Pacs weakness, like JMM and until he can prove otherwise he is still just good. i do hope he fights JMM again instead of PBF cuz it would be a much better fight. Hands Down!

I get everyone now a days is a Pac fan, and its everyone’s choice to be a fan of who they like, i am not a fan of Pac, but i do like watching him fight, he is exciting and entertaining, would rather watch a Pac fight than a PBF fight thats for sure. but to call him a great? not yet at least. you have Robinson, Pepp, Duran, Hagler, Lenord, Chavez, Whitaker, i mean those are really big shoes to fill. he is tthe greatest asian fighter ever and maybe the greatest fighter this decade, but certainly not all-time. but there is still time for him to prove it, maybe fighting and beating, PBF, SSM, JMM (convincingly) and then maybe. but till then he is good, real good, but not yet great.

It was expected that Manny would beat Cotto but not in that manner…not so one sided as it was…the defeated boxer had recognized his defeat why can’t the others do the same..do you want to be in the ring with Manny to know why?

Im a Pacquiao fan – I seem to have to state this whenever I comment on an article where Pacquiao is the subject, if I state a negative comment about him, there seems to be a lot of biased replys from “die-hard” Pacman fans.
Pacquiao’s wins and performances are getting people watching boxing – so in that sense the hype is deserving.

However, what is being blown out of proportion is Pacquiao place in boxing history. He once again fully deserves his future place in boxings Hall of Fame, and maybe recognized as one of the greats, if not the greatest of this era. But, these fans and even writers claiming he is the Greatest of All Time, how do you work this out?

He has a great boxing resume, has moved up the divisions very comfortably, claiming 5 legitimate Worlds Titles in different divisions along the way (not 7 as the record states), has beat some top top boxers. This is a boxer who is performing to the best of his ability, and in some peoples eyes still improving. It can be argued he has achieved the most out of any boxer in this era, but the important word is era.

Pacquiao, as well as many of the top boxers nowadays only box 2 maybe 3 times a year, have the best facilities, have months to prepare for one fight, hopefully peaking on fight night.

Compare this to in my opinion, the Greatest Boxer of All Time in Sugar Ray Robinson. Robinson was 43-44 years old in his final year of boxing. In the final year, he fought a total of 14 times in 9 months. I think ive made my point.
