Pacman will be gobbled up by the Ghost [Mayweather]

pac673423By Daniel Cross: For the past year or so, the question of who would be the victor in a battle between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao has been gaining pace among boxing fans and now suddenly for the first time the answer is realistically on the horizon. In 2010 we will no doubt see a superfight to define the careers of two of boxing greatest fighters.

So the question is, who wins? The answer, unequivocally, Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Now I’ll explain why.

Anyone that’s ever played the arcade game PACMAN knows that sooner or later as you move up the levels, Pacman runs out of power pills and he succumbs to the quicker Ghost. And this by way of an analogy is what will happen to the incredible Manny Pacquiao.

I start my explanation by saying that I am a huge Manny Pacquiao fan. He has achieved greatness already by becoming a 7 weight world champion.

Pacman was already a fantastic champion before he started to move up to light welterweight and welterweight respectively but the last 3 fights he has proven he can take on anyone and beat them…almost. Looking over his past 3 fights with De La Hoya, Hatton and Cotto we have seen him able to come into the ring the smaller man and within 2 rounds of each of those fights show himself to be the stronger man regardless of size.

What he has done is nothing short of brilliant. However, when you break these 3 fights down it’s only really the Cotto fight that has any bearing on just how impressive he is. De La Hoya was drained to dangerous proportions & Hatton unfortunately was not in the same class. Cotto however represented a true welterweight fighter in his prime with good boxing skills to boot. Pacman simply destroyed him. Impressive a victory as it was, Cotto is not in the same class as Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is a different prospect altogether. With Mayweather you do not have a boxer that can be duped in to trading with Pacman. As skilful as Mayweather is physically, so is his brain. He knows already how to beat Pacman, the same cannot be said for Manny Pacquiao over Floyd. I quote Mayweather when I say, “40 people had a game plan, 40 people failed”.

On Saturday night Pacquiao managed to draw Cotto into a trade off and the second Cotto nibbled at that bait he was on Pacquiao’s hook….the left hook! Mayweather will not take that bait, he will not be drawn in to going toe to toe with Pacquiao. His nerve and calmness under pressure, no matter how intelligent that pressure is, is always super chilled.

So, we already know that Pacquiao will have to come forward against Mayweather and that is where the fight is lost in my opinion. Floyd is a lot quicker and more accurate than Cotto, Marquez, De La Hoya, Hatton and anyone that Pacman has ever fought and beaten or lost to.

I can see after 6 rounds Pacquiao being so frustrated at being picked off on the way in, that he opens up too much and Floyd K.O’s him in the later rounds.

Mayweather’s skills are unmatched in boxing today both defensively and in attack. He made Juan Manuel Marquez look like a complete amateur. Inside the ring Floyd is a ghost, plain and simple. He is boxing in its purest form, hitting but not getting hit. Freddie Roach already had a crack at Floyd via De la Hoya and failed, I don’t see it being any different this time. Too many people look at the Mayweather v Castillo fight as a blueprint on how to beat him and that is where they are going wrong….Floyd won that fight as the record states and every boxer has an off night at least once in their career. That was Floyds off night and he still won. For Pacman to win, Floyd has to have another off night and Pacman needs to have the night of his life. The only way for Pacman to beat Floyd is to try and get in and out quickly to get up on points and make Floyd chase him. Easier said than done, he has to move in and out without getting spanked which is unlikely. As previously stated I see a Mayweather K.O in the later rounds.

One final point, lets remember where Mayweather came from, down in the featherweights….he has done the same as Pacman but doesn’t get half the respect. That’s only because of his public persona. If he was more humble and more like Pacman in the way he conducts himself he would not have any critics on how he fights in the ring.

Saying all this, a fight between to amazing fighters like this can still go either way, that’s what makes boxing so incredible to watch and that’s why we all love to talk about it so much. No doubt my article will provoke some opinion and that’s great. Happy talking.

  • John says:

Yeap. Bring it on! Bet your house and I will bet mine. Pacquiao will win. With Freddie Roach’s wisdom and Pacquiao’s tireless workout, Mayweather will be exposed.

  • billy says:

manny is a top fighter i think we all no that but the problem 4 him will be him coming straght forward look at the tape he does it alot and it works 4 him the problem n that is if u look at mayweather video u’ll c he sends shots like his left hook while backing up n i think that will b the punch that makes the fight he hit hatton with it marquez and every 1 else that came forward and and mayweather will b the fastest fighter manny have ever faced so we’ll c how he handles speed also oh yea dont 4get the straght right thats there n every 1 of manny fight but nobody sends it dont the pipe the only 1 who did was marquez and manny didnt want 2 fight him again but we’ll c what happens on the date of the fight

  • paktard says:

Floyd makes boring fight. In almost all his fights, you can hear boos from the crowd. In post match interview, Larry Merchant always tagged him with comments and it’s joy to watch Mayweather got irked.

  • BobbyBoo says:

all we’ll here at the end is……118-116 ……..to FLOYD MaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYwwwwwwwwwEEEEEEAAAAAAATHER!!!!!!! like i said ..the Kids Too Too Sharp

  • BobbyBoo says:

If Floyd is Floyd and dose’nt have a dip in form….Floyd WINS, simple…the kids too SHARP……knows how to win and catch the Judges eyes with clean clean ACCURATE shots…….Uncle Roger and Floyd himself knows he cant go “macho camacho” with The Pacman…..Good Article by the way.

  • Leroy says:

This is a good article. The analysis seems to be well thought out, reasonable, and unbiased.

There are some things that many boxing fans tend to overlook about Mayweather, such as his chin, determination, toughness, power, and ring intelligence. He has a reliable chin, which is enhanced by his fitness and determination. He is very tough mentally, and this helps in his physical toughness. When he decides to engage a fighter physically, he can hurt that fighter with his sharp and crisp combinations. Just go back to the Gatti fight. He is also very capable both defensively as well as offensively. On the other hand, Pacquiao’s defense comes basically, from his offense. Manny is a great fighter, but he is not a complete fighter; Floyd is a great fighter, who is a complete fighter. I strongly believe that Floyd will beat Manny psychologically early in a fight, and knock him out later. Finally, Cotto has not been the same since he fought Margarito.

  • BB says:

Don’t know why there are a lot of Pacman bashers … these people have no idea how to box, all talk … they think they are better than those who actually DO! They think they are experts but guess what? THEY ARE ALL LOSERS .. Pacman has remained the WINNER … so go ahead and keep bashing him … Pacman will continue to do his thing (WIN) and your boys will continue to do their thing (LOSE with excuses). Kudos to Cotto (he is the only one who did not whine or give any excuse). You should all be ashamed … it is not you who are in the ring losing .. and you have all these excuses … Just keep your thoughts to yourself or prove it in the ring .. oops I guess you can’t do it .. LOSERS!!!

  • EricT says:

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah. Those of you who think Fraud Floyd can give money a hard time. Remember what all these Pacquiao victims said in the end: “I didn’t see the punches coming.” No matter how well Fraud Floyd play Manny, he will get rattled and lose his fight plan once he’s tasted his 4-combination shots. Cotto thought he could handle Manny’s speed.

  • dean says:

i googled paul williams and it said who in the h. is paul williams !!

  • Sev says:

Are you gonna be staking your job on this too?

  • JeerKO says:

IM A HUGE PACQUIAO FAN, but me too thinks FLOYD MAYWEATHER WILL BEAT MANNY PACQUIAO on points, and it’s going to be a sad day for all boxing fans in the world as Mayweather will just dance away from the great Pacman, contented to throw lightning-flash jabs while leaning back and head-shouldering on the whole boring 12 rounds. Mayweather is NOT a warrior like Pacquiao; he is at most a DEFENSIVE boxer, a great defensive boxer who has unfortunately CONVINCED many people that his “style” of boxing makes him a great boxer. Should the two fight, there wouldn’t be KOs, unless Floyd commits the BLUNDER of his life: that is, to engage PACMAN toe to toe. But we all know very well that it wouldn’t be the most likely case. Mayweather does NOT have the balls; he has all but balls! Unfortunately for Pacman’s fans like me, he has brain! How can one beat somebody who is RUNNING and just throwing jabs to get points?

  • paktard says:

Admittedly, Mayweather is different breed. He has the agility, quickness, elusiveness and athleticism. In his 40 fights, no one really has bruised his face during the fight while Pac has tasted the agony of defeat and pain from heavy blows. So, it’s clear – Mayweather is untouchable when he is inside the ring.

  • furious says:

i heard this comments many times, although dela hoya will knock pacquiao out, hatton will do the same thing & cotto will stop pacquiao but in the end pacquiao is the victorious, the same fate will happen to mayweather, MARK MY WORD MR. DANIEL CROSS.

  • paktard says:

YOU KNOW WHAT? I like that Mayweather will keep bragging about his accomplishments and discredit Pacquiao.

Pacquiao by nature loves being underdog. This will keep him motivated on how to beat his opponent. For sure, master Roach will study and come up a strategy to deal with Mayweather hit & run style.

    Keep up the Pac bashing.

  • droby says:

The writer makes a good point. Manny will be the aggressor against a defensive specialist who is taller and likely has a longer reach? Even against Cotto, Pacquiao, I felt was not as accurate with his punches as if he was reaching too much and losing some balance. He’ll likely get caught when he comes in.

On the otherhand, Pacquiao consistently throws more punches and lands a good percentage. Even if that percentage drops and he takes more hits, Pacman would be in every round just by doing that alone.

In terms of speed, I think the HBO announcer described Pacman’s speed and quickness as superior in terms of the combination of hand, foot and movement and that he throws punches from the least unexpected places. This, like in all his fights, will be the determining factor.

Floyd will watch out for that and if he can escape it he’ll win. But if he gets caught, Manny will win rounds and Floyd will just open up in the later rounds and have to be more aggressive which will open him up for a knockdown from one of those punches that Pacman’s previous opponents said ‘they never saw’.

It will be a compelling fight, whoever wins the early rounds will force the other fighter’s hand. That’s the way I see it. No prediction, because I tend to favor Manny just because I prefer his style as a boxing fan.

  • Jas says:

I disagree Floyd will never be able to KO pacquiao

  • Henry says:

It doesn’t really take that much to knock Floyd. Manny will get him for sure, if Floyd has the balls to fight.

  • Pinoy says:

Try to base your thoughts on facts, not on your opinions…
See what we know and discuss to agree of disagree on what we base are facts… Not all we hear and see is always the truth… May the better man win…

  • Onin says:

Mayweather’s very very afraid right now… That 0 of his will go away this 2010.

  • neukid says:

In my humble opinion, I think Floyd is the man who beat the man who was beaten by other man while phacquiao is the man who beat the man who beat the man who beat the man and if you are a gambling man you know where to put your money on,man.

  • Malis says:

Great article! Mayweather to KO Pacman in round 10

  • peplz says:

I read a totally incorrect comment about Mayweahter going up to 154lbs. De la Hoya weighed in at 154lbs and Mayweather weighed in at 150lbs. Mayweather was wieghed on fight night and weighed 148lbs on fight night. And, Pacquiao started boxing professionally at the age of 16 when he weighed 106lbs. Mayweather fought at 106lbs when he was 16 years old also. But Mayweather is American and not allowed to fight professionally until the age of 18. So during the years that Pacquioa was fighting in those smaller divisions Mayweather was also. He was just fighting as an amateur. And saying people don’t like him because he came in over the agreed “catch weight” is a pretty thin argument being that he’s only been in one catch weight fight. Catch weights are the problem themselves not Mayweather failing to make them. If Mayweather would’ve tried to fight De la Hoya at a catch weight people would’ve cried foul. That won’t be an issue this time around because Pacquiao is the welterweight champion now. So the idea of the fight taking place at a catch weight pretty counter intuitive at this point. I agree with the writer but anything could happen.

  • Guest says:

Also, Pacquiao has to hit Mayweather with regularity, which the majority of his opponents have failed to do. Floyd has taken a handful of very good shots in his career, and taken them well. This maybe proving Floyd has a very good chin.

  • Guest says:

Mayweather will win, for exactly the reasons the writer pointed out. Pacquiao will try turn the fight into a brawl and tempt Mayweather out of ‘the pocket.’ Even if Manny succeeds in this, I feel Mayweather will be even more dangerous. My reasoning for this, Mayweather is equally as fast as Pacquiao. (agree with this statement or not) He can IF he wants throw very fast, very accurate combinations, all while showing an incredible ability to dodge and block oncoming punches. He has shown his offensive ability in numerous bouts in his career, just the past 3-4 years he has neglected it.
If Manny can’t persuade Mayweather out of his shell, Mayweather will once again show the best defense in the sport whilst he potshots his way to a unaminous decision.
I’m a big fan of Manny Pacquiao, but his style is made for Mayweather.

  • juan says:

Christmas is so early in November I am having so much fun with the 2 of you.

    Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ahahahahahahahaha.

  • Matt T says:

I don’t know at this point who’s going to win that fight, but there are a few things that must be mentioned:

    1. Yes, Mayweather is a great boxer, but he has not faced anyone with the hand speed and power in both hands like Pacquiao.

    2. I’ve seen most if not all of Pacquiao’s fights since Barrera I, and I have yet to see a fighter who can keep Pac from landing punches. Yes, he gets hit, and would get hit by Mayweather a lot. But he will land punches, and Mayweather will finally get his chin tested. Can he withstand Manny’s power? That remains to be seen.

    3. Mayweather does not have close to the punching power of Cotto, or even Hatton for that matter. If he is able to walk through Cotto’s bombs, do we really think Mayweather is going to be able to do ANY damage?

Again, I don’t know who would win, but I don’t think it would be a cake walk for Mayweather. Best case scenario (for boxing fans) is Pac connects a couple of times early, and something goes off in Mayweather’s head that says MAKE THIS A WAR. That would be electric. Worst Case (and most likely case) is Mayweather does what Sugar Ray did vs Hagler, and runs the entire time, engages for short bursts while Manny is resigned to chase for 12 rounds, and Mayweather wins a controversial decision with most rounds being serenaded with boos.

  • Phooquiao says:

    @mark..Margarito wasn’t a challenge, so he fight’s Baldomir?

  • haha says:

pacquiao ducked mosley cause he couldnt bet him, yet, he took a fight with cotto, a man who beat mosley, and destroyed him… is there something im missing?

  • mark says:

Actually yes. If manny beats floyd it will cement his position as the best pound for pound fighter. Same goes for floyd if he beats manny. Until that fight happens you can argue either way.

Floyd beat de la hoya and hatton, so did manny. Floyd is a five weight champion. You can’t overlook that. Love him or loathe him he’s as talented as they come.

He ducked margarito? Fair enough, but perhaps he didn’t see margarito as a challenge. The guy was one dimensional and Moseley proved he wasn’t all that good. Moseley ducked floyd, then wanted a fight when he could make some serious cash from it. Why give the guy a big payday when he went out of his way to not take that fight a couple of years back?

Cotto? Blame bob arum. Floyd and arum aren’t exactly drinking buddies. Floyd needs this fight though, he didn’t need cotto at that time. That’s the only reason I can see him fighting on a bill under arum. And why he didn’t fight cotto.

There are a ton of explanations for everything. It just depends on who you choose to listen to.

  • lebron says:

mayweather is lame to watch. all he does is defend and it does not make for entertaining fights. i think people are mistaking a technical fighter for a dude with a weak chin. manny would have to make the whole fight and would get tagged coming in because floyd has some quicks. 12 rounds of boring boxing would render mayweather the winner. it would be interesting to see if he would even bother making weight. he needs to man up and fight paul williams at 147

  • Jseaport says:

Manny Pacquiao ducked Mosley n Paul Williams too. Why? Because he can’t beat them.

  • santiago sux says:

thank you for clarification phooquiao. either way fraudweather is really a weak and fragile boxer!!
    he wouldn’t last with packman!

  • camansi says:

the fight between pacman and floyd is either way…for me, it depends on how floyd will fight…its floyd will be thinking about pacman and not pacman on floyd…what i mean is that pacman will give everything in the ring whoever the opponents is…it is already given…i wonder about floyd…he’ll just run around the ring and do his pot shots…like what he did in dela hoya fight…by the way…your floyd is good at beating a bloated smaller man anyway…if you think he’s that good…why ask him to challenge bigger guys?or at least his own size?how’s that?

  • phooquiao says:

^santiago…mayweather’s glove hit the ground, it was a knockdown. Though it wasn’t scored like that…

  • santiago sux says:

after watching the mayweather vs judah fight. mayweather was hit alot of times and almost got knockdown! I’m 1000% sure mayweather will be KO’d by packman. packman hits harder than judah and faster and punch more volume than judah!!! and has more stamina than judah!!

  • bacon says:

    pacman is superhuman

  • pakyaw says:

Floyd can start training with Usain Bolt to avoid being hit by Manny.

  • glen says:

Liam Santiago said that he will never write again in this website if Pacman wins. So he changed his name, but the way he writes you’ll know him. Hasta la vista amigo.

  • pakyaw says:

    all of Manny’s doubters….
…will a Mayweather loss against Manny make you a believer that he’s the best fighter we’ve ever seen in our era?

  • glen says:

Liam Santiago is that you? Master Roach will design a perfect gameplan for the ghost for sure. Can’t wait to see that. But before that let give Pacman the best vacation he deserve.

  • Vendetta says:

Mayweather loses in points…period. People keep saying Manny loses to a counterpuncher and then bring up the fights with Marquez. If you compare the Manny from those fights with the Manny of the last three fights, you’re comparing night and day.

I can see the fight happening the following. Floyd hits Manny once and backs off. Manny throws four punches on Floyd and lands two. Manny won’t be able to knock Floyd out because that man is a chicken pure and simple (he did dodge Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, and Williams -which is why he’ll never be rated in the top forty of all time).

Manny outworks everyone. He wins by decision over Mayweather.
After he gets that one loss, his rating will fall below the top 100 of all time.

  • Jay says:

Mayweather will be busted, his shoulder roll defense wont work against pacman, and roach knows how to deal with pbf.The thing is,they always say that pacs opponent will be too much before the fight but, they always end up short.

  • Mr T says:

i think freddie is too cleaver to let manny get frustrated coz that would hand the fight to pbf!
pbf has the best defence ive ever seen and he loves to make people over stretch and catch them when there open. wouldn’t it be great if they agreed to a two fight deal. bring back the old days when the greats use to have rematches

  • fearfulweather says:

defense means run !run !run! run fraud run!! oh yeah that shoulder roll pacman will hit that sucker hard that it will be dislocated!! you fraud fan are really funny and big joke!!

  • jimmy arbuckle says:

All these talk of ghosts, Liam Santiago talked about the ghost of Cotto, now we have the Ghost of Mayweather, Halloween is over.

  • Jorge Lugo says:

Good article but I have to disagree! I think Manny Pacquiao moves forward cause he knows how to avoid major punishment while attacking his opponents. If anything, Floyd Mayweather Jr should have a harder time being his lack of fights with true champions… Also, i think fighting Cotto will be proven to be tougher than fighting Mayweather for Pacquiao… If i had to predict.. I would say Pacquiao beats Mayweather in 10 rounds!

  • kam says:

Roach has the plan to defeat mayweather, when Da la hoya fought mayweather that plan was working perfectly for the first half the fight its only when dala hoya aborted roach’s plan he lost the fight. Roach is itching for the mayweather fight because he is so confident Manny will see that plan through and take the victory.

  • ramsey says:

we should always remember that floyd is hittable. look at his fight against jab judah, ricky hatton and dela hoya. they won some rounds that proves mayweather can be beaten and those fighters did not threw volume of power punches as pacquiao do. mayweather’s corner was panic when they saw judah winning in early rounds but sad to say judah was out of gas in the second half of the fight. anyway, i see manny winning on points and mayweather humilliated.

  • phooquiao says:

With that being said, you can’t call this fight based on either of their past opponents because, let’s face it, both fighters are way better than the whole of either man’s resume. Great fight, hope it happens.

  • Jorge A Glz says:

Pacman is the best pound for pound just forget Floyd…..

  • james says:

good article, mayweather is a defensive genius cotto , hatton and de la hoya were all better offensivley than defensivley but mannys offence was better so he won but with floyd manny wont land and will get caught with fast counters manny strugggled again the counters of marquez whos defence is not in floyds league

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

i totally agree with the writer

  • Mayweather wins on points. No knock downs.

Why? Manny relies on people fighting his fight. Dela Hoya was drained, combinations and speed were not present. Hatton may have well walked in with a sign on his chin saying ‘Hit here, hard’.

Manny is brilliant but when Marquez refused to fight the toe to toe trade off after the terrible first round Manny was in trouble.

Mayweather is brilliant defensively, his face is unmarked after facing some tough guys, no one hits him. Dela Hoya was in much better physical shape against Mayweather, as was Hatton.
Hatton thought like many others ‘Manny is small, no power and I’ll bomb him out’ but Hatton against Mayweather was more cagey, wouldn’t dare leave his chin out.

Manny did brilliantly against Cotto but watch the first round when Cotto fought with his head and not his heart. He won that round relatively easy, but then the red mist took over and he foolishly fought toe to toe. Manny can punch like an Ox can kick.

I genuinely enjoy both of these modern day greats and whoever wins I hope it is a good fight. I just see Mayweather outfoxing Manny..

  • haterade says:

Roach is gonna disect Floyd thoroughly…why’d you think Freddie wants Mayweather badly?

That guy knows something we don’t…whatever it is PBF would look like a pair rhino ballbags at the end of it.

  • Boo Rhat says:

Mr. Cross, are you a Mayweather apologist?

In the words of Master Trainer Freddie Roach, “I would love to see Manny knock this guy (Mayweather) out and then retire,” he said. “There’s no place to go after that. We will break Mayweather down. He’s a fragile guy. I know he is hard to get to but we will get to him. Manny can match Mayweather’s speed and he has better footwork and more balls.” (via ESPN).

Floyd doesn’t stand a chance against the Pacman. Manny will turn Floyd into the ghost of yesteryear.

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

floyd is boring if he fights pac it will be boring cause of floyd!

  • kam says:

Mayweather doesnt get the same respect cos hes ducked certain fighters along the way and took easier options eg. ducked margarito and fought boldomoir, ducked cotto when cottos was formidable and fought da lahoya, ducked paul williams and instead fought the smaller ricky hatton and now is ducking sugar shane and still making excuses not to fight the best.

  • wanderer says:

Remember, we came to like Mayweather because he’s one of the exciting boxer before who doesn’t run from his opponents.

If Mayweather fought the same style he is now during he’s early days, we wouldn’t rate him as one of the best fighter.

Let’s face it, Mayweather just doesn’t excite us anymore in the ring but on his antics.

Great fighters are remembered for their great fights and their losses are forgiven.

Problem with Mayweather right now is, he’s clean record is overwhelming him not to take risk and fight explosive fighters in his weight division.

  • Dez says:

My prediction: Floyd will be knocked-down on the 3rd and knocked-out in the 4th. Why? He’s got no power. And when Roach has studied Floyd. Floyd is doomed.

Floyd was only able to knock down Marquez once only and Cotto is definetely much tougher than Marquez. Go figure.

Floyd is a ghost which Pacman’s ghost punches will surely knock-out. Floyd is a scared ghost now. But he has no choice but to face the truth and get knocked out rather than chicken-out and get humiliated.

  • bukoy says:

The problem with PBF is that he is not strong enough compared to Cotto. In the MP/Cotto fight it showed how tough is Pacman’s chin. Secondly, PBF he hasnt taken a lot of good blows in the past which is as strong as Manny’s. I think, he should’ve taken Cotto in the past so anyone can at least gauge how can he perform defensively.

  • Anonymous says:

this guy is the going to be the next manuela perez.

I DARE you MR. Daniel Cross to QUIT WRITTING if your prediction is wrong.

  • Evan says:

Manny beats Mayyweather easily. And Floyd is afraid of him

  • wanderer says:

Daniel Cross, cross your finger on this one until the day is set. Otherwise, you’ll end up like Manuel Perez and Liam Santiago, that is, if you can’t accept the reality if in case the outcome turns otherwise with your prediction.

At some point, Mayweather has a chance of winning by running. If he can score a jab, he’d better run and keep that edge until the 12th round. Otherwise, he’ll end up PRETTY MESSED-UP FLOYD.

And pacqiauo must really need to step up into the plate as what Mayweather said. That’s true indeed.

PACMAN needs to step up to keep his patience from chasing down Mayweather from the first round to the last. With the Cotto fight he showed little patience. That may ruin his game plan.

  • JohnP says:

I quote Pacquiao when I say, “50 people had a game plan, 50 people failed”.

All predictions right now can go to trash, we will have to wait until it actually happens.

  • Jseaport says:

Three men that Manny must beat to be the best. Paul Williams, Shane Mosley, & Floyd Mayweather Jr., which I believe he would lose to ALL THREE. Please don’t talk about weight, because Shane was willing to
come down in weight and Pacman’s camp ducked. Paul Williams states tht he will fight ANY welterweight. But anyway, that’s just my take on boxing and the legacy.

  • Fehr says:

OMG!!! I think Mr Daniel Cross went to the same “sports writers” school as Mr.Pérez and Mr. Santiago. As one commentator wrote the “running” style of Floyd Mayweather only works on “slower” fighters and I would think it would be very shameful if he wanting to be recognized as the “best ever”, would try to “steal” a win via a “Usain Bolt” type of fight. Listen Mayweather this is an “Honor sport” and if you want to be remembered as the “best” you’ve got to go and face Pacquiao like a “MAN” not running around like some scared little punk.
So if this is to “Hot” for you,…….Get out of the damm Kitchen!!! My money is on the “Pacman” that will screw the “Ghost” inside-out!!!

  • wanderer says:

    That’s really true.

He doesn’t get respect from us because he talks before he can deliver. Well, he may have proven what he said for now in a boring way lately.

Still, he needs to deliver on what he’s saying against Pacquaio. For now, he’s greatness remains overshadowed by Pacquaio.

If he wins over Pacquaio in a hit-and-run style, I wouldn’t be surprise and impressed. The same way that I’m not impressed with Pacquaio’s win on decisions. I still wanna see a knockout for the clear winner. If Mayweather does that, I see no problem putting him above Pacquaio even if I’m a huge Pacman fan.

I give the edge to Mayweather but it’s by no means a gimme. Boxing skills and Defense go to Mayweather. Power goes to Pacman. Speed about even. The case for Mayweather is he’s hard to hit… but against a busy fighter with stamina, decent speed and an iron chin who keeps coming at you, he’s bound to get hit… at the very least the body. Can he take the physical abuse for 12 rounds? He’s had a rib injury and shoulder surgeries already so he’s not exactly ironman. It’s an intriguing fight for sure.

Floyd’s skill are unmatched only on smaller boxers who don’t have the punching power of weltwerweights. Remember you said Manny’s and Floyd’s wins over Oscar and Hatton don’t count because both boxers are over the hill. Manny just beat up a young legitimate WW in Cotto. Who’s the last WW champion Floyd beat up?

sounds good but it doesn’t mean anything unless (until) they are in the ring together……

i dunno…if there’s one phrase that’s always been said by the last three or four opponents of Pac-man its “Pacquiao has not faced anybody my size/caliber before”…well i guess well just have to see when or if that happens.

You guys haven’t learn your lesson in going against Manny. If Floyd decides to man-up and want to earn respect, he’ll probably end up just like the 4 previous guys who were man enough to stand in front of the greatest boxer. Floyd’s chance of winning is dance around just like Cotto did in trying to survive the fight and score jabs and hopefully he doesn’t tire for 12 rounds, otherwise if he gets tagged by a left, it’s history for Floyd. Floyd’s defensive style only works for slow fighters, not on Manny’s.
