Other than Dirrell, who can beat Ward in the Super Six?

ward345By Scott Gilfoid: Andre Ward’s impeccable 11th round technical decision over the Super Six number #1 seed Mikkel Kessler appears to have taken a lot of the air out of the sails of boxing fans of Arthur Abraham, Kessler and Carl Froch. Ward’s win over Kessler was so one-sided that you barely hear a peep out of some of the excitable European fans. You’re also not hearing to much from Jermain Taylor fans either, although it’s not surprising given viciousness of his 12th round stoppage loss to Abraham in their Super Six tournament fight on October 17th.

Could the Super Six tournament be all but decided now that Ward has wiped out Kessler? Gosh, I really hope not. I was hoping for some suspense and for someone to give the talented Dirrell and Ward some competition. But after the first fights of the tourney, it’s looking like either Ward or Dirrell will be the eventual winner of the Super Six tourney. Abraham, incidentally, is in the lead at this present time by virtue of his knockout win over Taylor.

However, not too many people are thinking that Abraham will be able to hold that lead for long, because his next fight is against Dirrell in January. That’s really bad luck for Abraham, because of all the fighters he could have been pitted against in his second fight, he had to be put in with Dirrell.

The American fighter might be the best fighter in the entire tournament, as he has boxing skills similar to blend of Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Unfortunately, Dirrell has no points in the Super Six tournament right now after traveling to Froch’s home city of Nottingham and losing a questionable 12 round split decision to Froch. Instead of being bitter about it.

Dirrell has remained positive and has vowed to make up for the controversial loss by beating Abraham in his next bout. I fully expect Dirrell to make an example of Abraham and beat him like no tomorrow.

But Ward is the man of the hour after his win over Kessler. Ward went out and dominated Kessler like he was beating a school boy. It was sickening how badly Ward beat Kessler. Yeah, some of Kessler’s defenders are complaining that Ward clashed heads with Kessler a small number of times and that he hit him with an elbow or two. But lets be clear about this: The head butts weren’t the reason why Kessler was beaten up. They may have caused the cuts on Kessler’s face, but they weren’t what reddened and swelled up Kessler’s face. It was Ward’s constant flow of lightning fast punches that had Kessler looking like a defeated man by the 8th round.

Who is there in the Super Six that can give Ward any real problems? Abraham doesn’t throw enough punches to beat Ward. If Abraham fights in his typical manner of only fighting hard for the last 30 seconds of every round, then he’ll take a major beating from Ward, much worse than the beating that Abraham took at the hands of Edison Miranda in their first fight. Carl Froch doesn’t have the hand speed, foot movement or the defense to give Ward any problems.

I think Froch will be harder to beat compared to Abraham because Froch believes in fighting hard for the full three minutes of every round, but Froch will still be over his head against the lightning fast Ward. Kessler has already been beaten by Ward, and I see Kessler getting stopped even sooner next time around. He won’t want to take a another beating and will likely fold fast against Ward the second time around.

Jermain Taylor has taken too much punishment in the last three fights and I can’t see him staying together for long with Ward pounding him with big shots. When it comes down to it, I can only see Dirrell giving Ward any problems. The only reason I see Dirrell doing so well is because of his excellent boxing skills. Dirrell moves better than Ward, has faster hand speed and better power. Everything that Ward does, Dirrell does better except for jab.

Give Dirrell some competition you weirdo, Froch beat him “How much competition does he want?” You’re useless Scott, completely blinded by nationalism to the point that your writing is a bit creepy and deluded and one tends to worry for your mental well being!

Joe Calzaghe can beat Ward, even though he is retired, different league, Ricky hatton in his current heavyweight state could beat Ward while drunk and half a buger hanging out of his mouth and a kebab in his pocket (With Salad)

Infact I could beat Ward, Jesus loves me more than him, I dont headbutt people

  • mickeymarley says:

  • John,e says:

The dark horse in there is Abraham and mean that in the best possible way he’d knock Dirrel out if he can catch up with him and say if because Dirrel is faster than Carl Lewis for running.

  • steve says:

I think Taylor could beat him too Scot. He might be old, chinny and past his best compared to Kessler, Froch and Abrahams, but he is American so he might be able to win.

  • Andrew Evans says:

    Easy a none bias judge.

  • adam w says:

a questionable 12 round decision. kessler at first had 2 judges and a ref from wards home town and ur talking about bias then the judge got swapt to a swede but if there had have been a nutral ref then ward wud have been told off for his constent fouling. so stop hyping about these over rated americans who shouldnt have been in the tourney. abraham 2 win

  • vrodz says:

  • Dodswm says:

I thought u’d agreed to stop writing Gilfraud?! Just because 1 American wins 1 fight, you immediately jump on your star spangled banner draped high horse…

You have no respect for the sport of boxing, you just like spouting ur patriotic, ill-informed, bias crap everytime you write. Ever thought of a different career path? Think you’ve proven sports writing is not for you – may as well quit whilst ur behind!

  • Peter(Hitman Fan) says:

    I’ll answer that, Carl Froch

  • BlakeyBoyBoxing says:

Your not hearing a peep because there sick and tired of the same bull s h i t you write in every article. It’s the same crap every time and it’s getting boring.

  • Joe says:

I think when Direll and Ward fight there will be more hugs than fight. both fight like cowards, they punch and hug. Between the two Direll hugs the most. I think AA will beat both of those guys as long as the ref. does’t let them hold AA to much. AA comes at you like a break wall, just ask Marquiez or Taylor. 12 rounds are long time and AA will catch them somehow and it will be Good Night.

  • Terminator says:

Same old sh*t from Gilfoid, stick the star spangled banner up your @rse Scott.

  • mombo says:

ward was impressive, yes. but abraham has the power to stop anybody in this tournament. i hope taylor is replaced by allan green.

  • Daniel Ciminera says:

in answer to your title, Froch and Abraham. I agree with these guys^^^ neither are anything like Kessler in their styles and both have the tools to dispatch Ward.

That said, as we’ve seen, Ward can beat anyone in the tournament.

Time will tell if he has the composure to do so.

  • Lets just end the tournament and declare two champs — Ward and Dirrell. Yes they are talented, but let’s not see how this will beplayed out — just declare them the paper champions, since the others have no skill.

  • arroyo grande bob says:

miranda looked better against ward than kessler. cant understand the reason for the headbutting and holding. ward or direll may prevail but at least abraham provides some drama. the americans are boring

  • scottyy says:

lol just read it proper are u forgetting about abraham the guy wat looked the most dangerous in the first round of super six he could beat bothj im nt dissing ward n dirrel but abrham is up der and a big danger 2 all

  • scottyy says:

  • scottyy says:

you love this guy gilfoif hes good but my gog ur supposed 2 be a writer of news dat means nt biased

  • Anonymous says:

    Carl Froch….Watch.

  • Erik says:

I do love the way there are tones of posts on here raving how fighters like Calzaghe & Mayweather (both undefeated) are overrated.
Yet after one good performance Ward is now some kind of world beater, let’s not go over hyping the guy just yet.
As for Dirrell, he can beat Abraham just as long as he fights the same fight he did against Frotch. Because unlike Frotch, Abraham will take his head of if he catches him.

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

dirrel is to sloppy, and fights with nervous energy, ward will beat him!
