Mayweather vs. Pacquiao – Article 1

mayweather4332464By Ibrar Arshaid: I recently read a post by a fellow writer Jorge Lugo headlined ‘Floyd Mayweather is overrated’. I read the article and read all the responses and I honestly was in shock that so many people actually think that Mayweather is overrated. The responses were just ridiculous, ‘Floyd has never fought anyone in his career’, ‘Mayweather has ducked the best fighters his entire career’, ‘Manny would kill Mayweather and Floyd is just running scared from Pacquiao’ etc. Reading all these stupid responses honestly made me think why people hate this guy so much.

And the answer hit me pretty simply, Floyd Mayweather has a huge ego, Floyd Mayweather’s love for money on the surface seems greater than his love for pleasing everyone. Floyd Mayweather’s style of fighting is completely different to that of Pacquiao. Floyd has adapted the sweet science style of boxing whereas Manny has adapted a style where he can box well and when needed he can trade and brawl with the best.

When we see Floyd’s fights we see him box smart, take his time, avoid any punishment, and stick to a game plan. When we see Manny fight we see Manny fighting with carnivorous aggression, with heart, and by any means necessary.

People don’t like Floyd because he has a ego, they hate him because he a brash person, they hate him because he believes in himself, because he doesn’t get in to battles with his opponents, because he makes boxing look easy, because he fights with his brain and not his heart. These are just a few of many reasons that boxing fans don’t like him.

But let me tell you one thing, these reasons are why he is so good and has achieved what he has. Yes he boxes with his brain, yes he believes in himself, yes he is over confident and these are the reasons he is so good. You can hate on the man as much as you can but no matter what, you will never take away the fact that he has won six world titles in 5 weight classes, he has won 16 world title fights and on top of all that he has never been defeated. Then there’s the excuse ‘oh Floyd has never fought any credible opponents’.

Ok so fighting De La Hoya at 157 pounds is not credible, defeating Diego Corrales for the Lightweight Title when Corralles’ record was 33-0-30KO’s was not credible, beating Zab Judah was not credible no?? Believe me when I say this or ask any boxer out there you do not become a five weight champion by beating a bunch of nobodies or cherry pick your opponents. Here’s an interesting fact, overall in terms of the pound for pound list, Floyd Mayweather has fought higher ranked fighters in his career than Manny Pacquiao has and if you don’t believe me research this area yourself.

I am honestly a big Pacquiao fan and I said in my pre Cotto fight article that Manny will beat Cotto. But I honestly have to say that Floyd Mayweather is out of this world. His defence is impeccable. His skills are unmatched. What is the art of boxing, the art of boxing is to hit and not to get hit back and Mayweather has mastered this. That art is the toughest skill for any boxer to achieve believe me. Muhammad Ali was great because as a heavyweight he moved unbelievably fast, he would hit and move, hit and move and his opponents were made to look ordinary. In his famous fight with Foreman he fought a genius game plan he leaned against the ropes and what did he do, he defended, he defended until foreman out-punched himself and then Ali knocked him out. Did Ali get criticism for his game plan? Did fans criticism him for not going toe to toe with foreman? No because true boxing fans recognized that what Ali did in that fight was genius.

Let me remind all of you of a famous brawl in Montreal, it was Sugar Ray Leonard against Roberto Duran. Leonard was the boxer who was quick, moved fast and had a great defense and Duran was driven by heart and he was an out and out brawler. What happened in that fight was that Leonard made the mistake of trading with this brawler and was defeated. Then in the second fight Leonard boxed smart he did not fight a war, he boxed Duran to the point that Duran quit because he felt that he could not respond to that style that Leonard was using. What happened next is that Leonard went on to beat Hagler and as a five weight champion is recognized as one of the greatest fighter of all time. Did boxing fans back then say ‘Leonard is overrated because he boxes smart, because he does not go toe to toe with his fighters?’ No they didn’t because true boxing fans recognize true talent.

Floyd Mayweather is a naturally gifted fighter, I believe that world titles don’t make champions, champions make world titles and I also believe that champions are not made they are born. Floyd Mayweather love him or hate him is a born champion with a tower load of talent. Just look back in history as I have explained and you will see that the best fighters of all time boxed and didn’t brawl. Manny Pacquiao is dangerous when you trade with him because his left arm is lethal, but if you don’t trade with him and you box him you neutralize him (Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez). Manny Pacquiao’s style of fighting is made for Floyd Mayweather. When you say that Floyd Mayweather runs then Leonard ran from his opponents, Ali ran from his opponents.

When u say Floyd did not beat Credible opponents the Leonard’s five weight accomplishment was not credible because they both beat five world champions in five different weights to do that. Yes Manny Pacquiao is undeniably a great fighter but that does not mean that Floyd therefore is not. Ali was great and so was Frazier and when these two fought we found out who the greater was. In the same context we will find out who the greater fighter is between Floyd and Manny.

I am going on record just like Bob Arum did and say that Manny Pacquiao is the greatest pound for pound fighter ever….Until he fights Floyd Mayweather.

Jorge Lugo you asked for facts from commentators who defended Floyd Mayweather well I got some for you

1) Floyd Mayweather is a Olympic Bronze Medalist (pacquiao’s medal??)

2) 6 World Titles in 5 diffrent devisions

3) Five time U.S National Amateur Champion

4) 16 World Title defences

5) He is undefeated

Now argue with them facts and try telling fans that he is overrated.

Amazing fact number six- NO FIGHTER IN THE HISTORY OF BOXING HAS CONQUERED 5 DIVISIONS UNDEFEATED SURPASSING OSCAR DE LA HOYA, ROY JONES JNR, SUGAR RAY LEONARD AND NOW MANNY PACQUIAO.

IS Floyd Mayweather really overrated? Well if your retarded yes.

Jorge Lugo if more people agree with your opinion that does not mean anything , all that proves is that more people are stupid and ignorant to the facts. Now plz people come and show me that your stupid and say that Floyd is Overrated….

Everyone. Say what you like about mayweather but when manny and floyd fight i will guarentee anyone here that mayweather will win. and then all the doubters will have to eat their words. This is FACT!!

  • sup says:

ok everyone in any kind of sport which is the most important thing offence or defence….this fight is jus goin to be a speed vs speed match with offence vs defence. but if u guys no ur sports defence is always the key to victory and mayweathers defence is flawless the best there is today and maybe even boxin history.

  • Dens says:

Now that’s where you are wrong with Pacquiao! You should not base pacquiao on history coz he is making history!!! The fact that he has fought bigger fighters makes him history! Yes yes, defense can win but so can offense! When pacquiao will try to penetrate floyd’s defense there will always be an opening… The thing is pacquiao has speed too. Strength and speed. Floyd has one advantage defense.. But he can’t over power pacquiao…

And you have to admit, pacquiao brought boxing back! So, give pacquiao credit! And everybody wants to see the floyd down.. What the hell is wrong with that?? So i give floyd credit for being the best villain out there!

And to tell you the truth, his zero just means he has not found the best fighter! Pacquiao may have lost but it is in those loss that brings him 10x better!

  • joey says:

your wrong, mayweather fought only when he is ahead in everything than his opponent, unlike pacquiao who fight boxer who is ahead in all argument.

  • RUG says:

They are both great fighters… the purse should be 50%-50% or something like 40%-40% w/ the remaing 20% given to the winner… the one who says no to this is the one that does belong to the greats… let them fight on equal footing and lets get this over with.

I have no comment about the over ratings or whatever; I just want to see them fight and be done with this discussions.

  • peplz says:

Why do people bring up Mayweather or Pacquiao fighting Paul Williams still? That makes no sense at all. Paul Williams has no draw. Paul Williams started his career as a Welter Weight but is no longer in this division. Its easy for a fighter who is 6′2″ with longer arms than any fighter in the Super Six Super Middle Weight tournament to claim he is so good at beating guys half his size. People should be calling Paul Williams to fight someone more like Bernard Hopkins or Chad Dawson. I’m sure Williams would lose as much weight as he needed to get the payday that he would recieve from fighting these two. If Paul Williams were to fight and defeat both fighters he would not go down in history as a great fighter. He would go down in history as the bigger guy who only helped to diminish the legacies of either of the two. Mayweather is not over rated.

  • chrisL says:

    Floyd is overrated.

I say, fight mosley and knock him out. Who gives a sh*t about mosley duckin’ mayweather years ago???

nows your chance floyd. knock him out. then knock pacman out (if you can); maybe you should do a margarito…. LOL

  • chrisL says:

    anonymous,

if pacman knocks mayweathers mouth off his face will you all just dissapear??? LOL

  • Padre says:

People will be stunned when Pacquaio knocks out Mayeather, First of all what Mayweather has achieved as a amateur boxer has to do with DETERMINING WHO IS THE BETTER FIGHTER NOW!,Some fighters get even better with time(for example larry holmes was knocked out as a amateur by Duane Bobick)and as far as the pro’s I dont care how many championship fights Mayweather has won most of these champions of today are tomato cans compared to the champions Ali fought in the 70’s and Ray Lenard fought in the 80’s. Mayweather is an exceptional fighter, not a great one. the champions who posed a threat in the welterweight division to Mayweather he has ducked. Pacqiaio is ranked as an all time great not Mayweather. THE MARK OF A GREAT FIGHTER IS NOT HOW MANY FIGHTS YOU WIN TO GO UNDEFEATED, ITS THE GREAT OPPONENTS THAT YOU DEFEAT AND HOW YOU HANDLE ADVERSITY IN DOING SO!

  • nimfa says:

Hurray for the real fighter like pacman and hell with a boxer like floyd!!!!!!!!

  • nimfa says:

Floyd Mayweather is a smart boxer but a very boring boxer all he knows is to dance and dance on the ring and because of that he defeated all his chosen opponents. Well if that is a great boxer then I hope no more boxers will be like him because all the fights will be all a draw. Hurray for the real fighters and hell to those fighters that like Floyd !!!!!!!!

  • Ondoy14 says:

That’s a disgrace, comparing PBF to the greats with likes of ali, foreman, frazier, leonard, duran etc etc. The opposition they faced is not even half of what floyd has faced. Those fighters beat hall of famers, at leas all of them made the top 25 GOAT list. If PBF battled mosley, margarito, cotto, paul williams and beat them all convincingly then he would be up there with them. But unfortunately he didnt, how many lineal titles did he win? and believe me, being undefeated is overrated. The greatest fighters knows how to come back from a defeat. If being undefeated is everything about being great, then why isnt Marciano the GOAT?

  • Floyd says:

Actually, Floyd is not overrated because no one gave him such a high rating than himself. Lets finish this talk!

  • fan of both pacqiao & mayweather says:

These both great fighters need to fight right now to create history for boxing and to determine once and for all who is the best, so the fans don’t have to wonder who is the best. It is pointless to debate who is the best. They both have decent chances of winning. They will use different strategies. Boxing is never that simple, sometimes, a better boxer can still lose if he makes a careless mistake. At such a highly competitive level of boxing, anything can happen. They both have a good chance of winning. it is too hard to call. Please promoters, get these two fighters in the ring and sort it out.

  • fan of both pacqiao & mayweather says:

This is ridiculous. A Champion will fight any contenders for the title. A champion will not be afraid to fight any dangerous opponents. A champion wants to beat worthy opponents to prove that he was the best when he got the belt and he is still the best because no one can beat him. Excuses like “the money split is not right”, or “i have a bigger name, why should i fight him” are just not good enough.

Just because a boxer was the best 5 years ago, does not mean he is the best now. To claim you are the best, you must be willing to fight “ALL” the top challengers.

  • Anonymous says:

Listen guys, being undefeated does not automatically translate to greatness. If you consider FMW a greater fighter vs MP just because he is undefeated, your argument is childish!

  • Anonymous says:

To answer the question who is the best pound for pound fighter in this era, let numbers speak for themselves. Manny= 7 titles, Floyd= 5 titles.. who is the best?

  • sunny says:

I use to purchase PPV when Mayweather fight, but when he fought Oscar Delahoya it totally changed my view, I never felt so rob and regret paying to watch someone. Thats 12 rounds of dancing, and still sticks in my head why. I only watch his fight the nextday on utube that way I can fast forward to the last round and its free..

  • Anonymous says:

In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. Manny will fight the fight the fans want to see. We can’t say the same about Floyd. Both fighters are accomplished fighters. Floyd just hasn’t accomplished much as a welterweight. He won’t fight the welterweights the fans want to see him fight. Manny has already fought 2 welterweights. One former and one current top tier welterweight. And is in negotiations to fight the SUPPOSED welterweight at the top of the tier. (I personally believe Moseley is at the top of the tier.) Right now Manny is the people’s champion. Floyd just hasn’t showcased his talents against the best welterweights. I think Mosely deserves the winner of this fight and Williams deserves the winner of that fight so we can really say who the best of the best is. I would love to see a welterweight tournament because it is the most disputed division in the sport right now.

  • Kerochan says:

    “UNDEFEATED DONT MEAN S.HIT?!”

    RA the Rugged Man

  • Xellos says:

No doubt, Floyd has a very good defense.. I completely agree.. but Pacquiao has what it takes to crush that defense.. and that is SPEED.. Marquez was too slow and WTF.. Floyd came to fight Marquez OVERWEIGHT and STILL can’t KNOCKOUT MARQUEZ. He didn’t even let them weigh him again that night coz he’s prolly really OVER THE WEIGHT..

Now that Floyd has seen the ending of Pacquiao-Cotto fight.. he is SCARED SH*TLESS to fight PACMAN.. heck, even his dad Mayweather Sr. doesn’t want him to fight Pacquiao now after seeing the fight… LMFAO!!!! Just watch the postfight interview of Floyd Jr. & Sr. in Youtube..

Sadly.. a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight might not happen coz Mayweather is too effin scared to loose.. and he hides on the excuse that he wants a 65-35 share in favor of him.. WTF is that?! Also now he’s saying that when Pacquiao is asked if he wants to fight Mayweather Jr. he says “That’s my promoter’s job, I’m just a fighter..”… DUDE… Pacquaio says that all the time coz he is too humble to call out his opponents.. he didn’t just started doing that you know.. if you watch the other videos.. he said the same thing to his previous matches..

And to end this.. I just wanna say.. I agree that Floyd is good on what he does.. he really is good on defense… but he is B-O-R-I-N-G also to watch.. can’t argue about that… Ask anyone that is a fan of boxing.. who is a more exciting fighter, Pacquaio or Mayweather.. LOL

  • Money Mayweather Fan says:

im sure most of the Pac-Man fans were also DeLa Hoya, hatton, and Marquez fans when they fought Floyd understand most of the world is with Pac because he’s the guy they think can shut floyd’s mouth..not taking anything away from Pac..Pac is a true warrior and i believe he is the only that COULD beat mayweather today (though he wont) your crazy if u think he’s gonna get in the ring with floyd and just knock him out “get real” and to think that floyd is gonna get in the ring with that little fisty s.o.b and get a 1st round knock out “ur crazy” its gonna be a fight to see and i cant wait!!!

  • Jrm says:

I agree that the sport is open to creativity. I agree that we need all these styles. However, what if a well known boring style added with greed influences future fighters. This can lead to a greater number of boring styles and possibly end with all fighters become boring. These are just possibilities but like you said, money can have a dictation.

  • jonnyv says:

listen jrm we need all these styles and more to keep boxing alive.yes there will be boring fights and wars also and amidst them all there will b boxing(a sport that is open to anyone to create any style they choose)money will dictate if this fight happens!iwonder if floyd has the respect to go 50/50 i think not

  • Jrm says:

    Floyd Mayweather:
    1. Prefers to move backward and lure with a one or two punch counter. Most or all of his opponents are aggressors.
    2. Prime division is 145-154. Fought hatton, Marquez, Baldomir, Judah, De la Hoya. Who were and are current welterweight contenders during his time?
    3. Height is 5′8″
    4. Predictable when it comes to winning because only score matters to him. A win is a win.
    5. Undefeated. Talented. Great defense.
    6. Does not care about boxing fans. What is boxing without fans?
    7. Does not care about legacy, only money. Mayweather quote,”Ali sold his legacy for 50 million.” Does legacy only involve money?
    8. claimed entertainer outside of boxing, not inside boxing. Why box?
    9. considered a fighter or a boxer or both?
    10. Does not care if the sport of boxing disappears in the future.

    Manny Pacquiao:
    1. Prefers to launch relentless punches and offensive. Most of his opponents are offensive until they are forced in opposite direction.
    2. Prime division 140-145. Fought hatton, De la Hoya, Cotto. Who are the current contenders?
    3. Height is 5′6.5″
    4. Unpredictable because a KO can happen anytime. A win can become a great win.
    5. Not undefeated. Talented. Great offense.
    6. Cares about what fans want. Good for you.
    7. Cares about future history. Agreed, history is greater than money.
    8. claimed entertainer outside and inside boxing. DANG keep boxing then.
    9. considered a fighter or boxer or both?
    10. Cares about the future of boxing. Right, give those who struggle a chance to shine.

Now, lets say we only have competitors with similarties of Mayweather fight against each other. Special note to #1, 4, 6, 7, 10.
    What will happen to boxing?

On the contrary, we have competitors with similarities of Pacquiao fight against each other. Special note to #1, 4, 6, 7, 10.
    What will happen to boxing?

  • Gary Samson says:

i’d LOVE to have mayweather fight pacman… i’d HATE mayweather duck pacman (which he has been known to do)…LET’S GO PACMAN !

  • trevez17 says:

This is the best article ive read on this website! You know your stuff, Floyd Mayweather is on another level and every REAL boxing fan knows this, the only people who don’t are up Pacquiao’s arse.

Floyd will have a field day with Pacquiao if he fights like he did against Cotto because he was hit several times by Cotto it’s just that Cotto doesn’t have the reflexes of Mayweather & also isn’t as accurate as Floyd, also he made the mistake and decided to trade with Pacquiao which Mayweather won’t do.

  • jumebug183 says:

YO,YO,,BOXING FANS…LET ME SAY, THAT THE MAYWEATHER VS PACMAN FIGHT WILL BE A VERY GREAT FIGHT TO SEE,,MAYWEATHER IS A GRAET FIGHTER NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT FROM HIM BUT COME ON I THINK IT’S TIME FOR HIM TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT YES HE IS A TRUE BORN CHAMP,,AND THAT TIME IS NOW..MAYWEATHER VS PACMAN

  • Muzza says:

When Sugar Ray was fighting there were 3 Belts so its not the same at all to say their 5 world title efforts were the same.

  • joeseabee says:

    let me add to jonnyv.

pacman is the modern “cinderella man”. most of his fans came from or had experienced poverty and has become successful in life! that’s why mostly can relate to his battle everytime he fights. he used to be the underdog, used to be a nobody, but because of his persistence, hard work, humbleness and God fearing person, he is where is now!

  • joeseabee says:

mayweather won’t end up victorious in this fight between him and pacman. with pacman (if you’re a keen observer), the more you talk trash the more beatings you’ll get! regardless on how small he is or how short his reach is, still he’s gonna beat floyd big time.
to floyd fans, try to slowly accept that he’s gonna loose to pacman, otherwise you’ll be surprised when that moment comes!
pacman will hit him, his defense, everything on pacman’s way! his punches will go thru floyd’s defenses!
    hoo-rahh!

  • jonnyv says:

many of these arguments are pointless!to compare eras is a waste of time.i would love to see manny beat fmw simply because he has come from nothing .unlike fmw who has been engineered into his present position through obsessive family members.dont get me wrong he is incredibly good at what he does but he will never truly connect with the people(almost like the bosses son syndrome) i think that fmw will be too defensively brilliant on the night and too fast with counters however i will shout for manny all night cause u never know, guts may just lead to glory.sweet science is merely one aspect of a sport that without all the many other styles could not exist!

  • Anonymous says:

If mayweather fights pacman and wins n makes pac look average are u all still goin to say mayweather hasnt fought anyone?

  • Anonymous says:

u all say the gr8 fights ali/hagler/leanord have had but all gr8 fights because they were in wars mayweather makes very gd boxers look average

  • joeseabee says:

    let me explain jrm’s side.

boxing won’t be so exciting if only mayweather will fight. unlike when the pacman fights, he’s phenomenal, that’s why he’s gaining more fans! and the boxing sport is getting revive from its collapsed!
mayweather’s fan base is local while pacman’s global! did i hit it right jrm?

  • teeeee says:

Good article…Agree 100% Mayweather is a master in the ring, Manny is a beast, but Floyd gets a little boring sometimes because he does not press for the ko.and Manny go for broke. But Floyd is not overrated. I would like to C Floyd vs Manny and the winner vs Paul Williams then we will know who is the real pound 4 pound fighter.

  • joeseabee says:

honestly, i didn’t pay to watch even a single fight of fmj, unless it’s a freebie or in youtube.

  • Anonymous says:

JRM i don’t mean to disrespect you, but i didn’t understand a single thing in you’re comment.

  • scotsman says:

i look forward to watchin mayweather, he has skill, he used his head and to be honest is the most naturally gifted fighter of this generation. no matter what u say he will be REMEMBERED for generations just like jack johnson ali and robinson WHO ALL USED BRAINS AS MUCH AS ANYTHIN ELSE.

I AM NOT SAYIN HE IS AS GOOD AS THESE FIGHTERS

before u all go mental at me but ppl will miss seein him. his PPV records back this up.

Will he beat pacman? i think he would. if apcman gets close…..could be intestin. honestly no idea what will happen….here is an idea…..lets watch and find out.

  • joeseabee says:

He likes the comments of Clark Kent, Padre and Jrm!
Pacquiao is a big risk taker, that’s why he’s one amongst the greatest!

  • Jrm says:

I wonder what will happen to the sport of boxing if only Mayweather’s fight against each other compare to Manny Pacquiao and other all time greats fight against each other. I know “real” fans will want Mayweather while the “world” fans will want Manny Pacquiao and the other all time greats. Im sure the number of “real” fans is greater than the number of “world” fans.

  • Clark Kent says:

Floyd does have an exceptional defense, no doubt about it. But being a sportsman, and a boxer at that, should mean you are challenging yourself, correct? Yes, he is great but he IS NOT challenging himself. He does not make risks, he just wants to win and he goes after sure-win opponents.  A champion does not necessarily need to have a perfect resume, in fact, it may be the other way around because a loss should make him better.  Leonard became better, Ali became better … these guys are champions because they take risks. Floyd did take some risks before but, seriously, fans do not see him taking those risks, unlike Manny.  You know a fight is really a fight when, at the first ring of the bell, no one can actually predict what is going to happen because both fighters take risks.  It’s very hard to say that to Floyd’s fights, to be honest.  Now, tell us please … take away the records, take away the money, take away everything that muddle the art of boxing, just a person’s character which defines a boxer… do you really think Floyd IS a boxing champion?

  • emlyfe says:

Hello could you tell me the reason for Mosley not fighting Floyd earlier in his career?

  • Anonymous says:

I don’t know what is the problem here. The only question is, is FMW overrated? In my opinion his not overrated, but if people ask me if his one of the G.O.A.T NO! He will be if he fight and win against the best fighter in our era (Sugar Shane,Pacquiao,Paul W) Like I said earlier if FMW don’t step up and fight the best, his going to end up back on Pacquiao’s shadow. I really want to see this fight happen so we can all rest with this who’s the best argument. right now Pacquaio prove alot to the world that his one of the best in sports. Heck! to me his in my G.O.A.T list……

  • emlyfe says:

a list of mayweather notables for those who say he hasn’t fought anyone. Toney Pep, Angel Manfredy, Gregorio Vargas, Diego Corrales (undefeated), Carlos Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, Castillo (twice), DeMarcus Corley, Arturo Gatti, Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah, Carlos Manuel Baldomir, Oscar, Ricky Hatton (undefeated), and most recently Juan Manuel Marquez.
    Overrated…. I don’t think so! Boring…LOL
He is a smart boxer. he is not a brawler… Watch HBO Boxing after dark for that.

  • Hello says:

Floyd is overrated. His reason for picking Marquez is so lame. His reason for not fighting Mosley is also lame. If he had accepted Mosley, I could have believed that Floyd is not overrated.

  • joeseabee says:

    He likes qtip’s comment!

  • Daveyboy says:

qtip – this is about whether describing FMJ as overrated is accurate – not about why you or anyone else don’t like the fact he is brash – do you not follow that..???

  • SValenzon says:

I agree with the author in saying Mayweather is not overrated. Statistics don’t lie. He is a smart fighter who employs tatics that take away an opponents strengths and patiently waits for an opening to strike. Smart. There in is the problem that plagues Mayweather. Smart does not equate to excitement. Fans come to see a battle not a chess match. That’s the way Mayweather fights, but you you can’t take away the man’s achievements because of his fighting style. I look forward to a Pacquiao/Mayweather fight just to settle the arguement. I still think Pacquiao would be the victor though.

  • qtip says:

WTF? if you have a problem with JORGE LUGO, why don’t you go face him and tell him off in person?! we dont wanna hear your drama.

and people hate floyd because he has a BIG mouth. he’s full of BS, always talking about money.

  • Robert D says:

For the record, Leonard did not beat down Hagler, He had a 12 round fight with the Marvelous one where he stayed away from his power and did little pitty pat flurries and ran from any real exchanges from Hagler and knew if he fought a 15 round fight he would have slowed down to a stand still, and Hagler would have spread him out on the canvas. Ali did not run from Foreman and took the punishment, before unleashing his own offense later in the bout.

  • Don says:

I still dont understand why everyone thinks that Mayweather is boring to watch. I’ll concede that the Marquez fight wasnt the “most” exciting fight in the world, but it was far from boring. Also, look at Floyd’s past fights. The De Lahoya fight was very exciting as was the Hatton fight, as were most of his other fights. I think that this “Mayweather is boring” stuff has been ran into the ground so much, that it has become the general concensus, while most who are saying it hasnt even watched any of his fights.

  • emlyfe says:

Gizmo i was with you until the Mosley comment as Mosley dodged Floyd twice when he had the belt. if i was floyd i wouldn’t fight Mosley while i’m on top of my game just as a reminder of him not granting Mayweather a chance at the title.

  • Scourge says:

    Why am I getting blocked?

  • Paul says:

how do we know that Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t on steroids or enhancement drugs?

  • Fettern85 says:

Psh, you can’t avoid the fact that Floyd ducked the most dangerous fighters. Yes of course he has fought some good fighters, but not any great ones. De La Hoya is the best one, but he was old, and he was never that great either. Can you compare Hatton, Castillo, Corrales and De La Hoya to Duran, Hagler, Hearns and Benitez? No way. And by the way, Castillo won the first fight against Mayweather. And you’re also saying that Morales beat Pacquiao because he boxed him and didn’t trade?? Lol, the fight was a complete war. Morales won, because he was such a great fighter, who didn’t duck anyone. Just like Paquiao, but unlike Mayweather. Long live Duran btw :)

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

my point in the aricle is that mayweather is not overrated as the writer JORGE KUGO said he is. can we talk about this people becaus ethe reason i wrote this article was to prove him wrong

  • Gizmo says:

I am a big mayweather fan but he needs the big fight against pac or a paul williams to cement his legacy. Sugar Ray Leonard beat Benitez,Hearns, Duran, and Hagler. All are greater than any fighter than PBF beat. In addition, he beat Lalonde who had power for the light heavyweight title. He also beat a slick southpaw kalule who was undefeated at the time.

FLoyd thinks he is the greatest but he never fought Tstyu at 140 instead Arturo punching bag gatti. He beat Baldomir at 147 who is no tommy hearns. Floyd is undefeated since he hasent fought the likes of Paul Williams, Pacman, and not even mosley.

  • fuego says:

i agrre with ibrar he knows his stuff and i take his points on board and have to salute him. hes right mayweather would beat pacman if you think not youre retarded. why does pacquiao fight oppenents for their titles at catch weights and not the championship weight? because he wont handle it, next we will see pacquiao vs pavlik for middleweight belt at catch weight 148lbs

  • joeseabee says:

you can do both, greatness and entertaining! that’s i’m paying for, entertainment! for me, boring fights are not great at all! ward and gatti, that was a entertaining and was a great fight!

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

daveyboy u r spot on there. very good source, straight from the man himself.
erik- we need more fans like you who know boxing
joeseabee- maybe to you evrything is black and white thats why your arguments dont make sense. i am a pacman fan n i said he wud beat cotto. this article is for Jorge Lugo who said floyd is overrated and based a whole article on it. i wana c floyd vs pacman but im not gna let any1 take away anything from either fighter because that is just killing the fight

  • MAYWEATHER I HOPE YOU WIN VS PACQUIAO SO YOU COULD BE THE BEST O0F THE BEST IN THE WORLD LIKE THE GREATTES IN THE WORLD I HOPE YOU DONT LET ME DOWN LIKE COTTO DID I HOPE YOU WIN

  • emlyfe says:

it also puts you at a greater risk of being knocked out

  • Eric says:

say you don’t like his style but please don’t call him overrated, was roy jones overrated, pernell whitaker? same type of fighter, being a brawler like Gatti was doesn’t make you great it makes you exciting, there’s a difference.

  • emlyfe says:

Ok, I have a question for everyone. If and when this fight occurs and Mayweather is victorious will he be recognized as the best pound for pound fighter or do you think the ridicule will continue? Will they continue to state he never fought anyone? Will they state Manny wasn’t big enough?

  • Daveyboy says:

The bottom line is this, when Sugar Ray Leonard was asked if he could beat Floyd, he said he would be one of very few all time fighters that would be capable of doing it, but acknowledged it would be an extremely tough test, if not one of his toughest tests, this is from a man who shared a ring with Hearns, Duran, Benitez and Hagler and acknowledged the greatness of Mayweather – even stating he would have held his own in any era.

Whose opinion do you value and give credit too more? Sugar Ray Leonard or Jorge Lugo ?

  • joeseabee says:

    LOL
    to scourge,LOL
you sound like my 3 year old child is better than you!
so what if he’s just writing countercomments on his fellow writer like jugo! so why is he defending floyd, if he’s a pacfan?
    LOL
hey scourge, LOL, i’ll tell you this! in this world there’s no in-between, whether you’re left or right, black or white, night or day, right or wrong, floyd or manny!
if the pacfans feel that way, that floyd is overrated, that floyd is arrogant, etc…etc…leave it that way! as i’ve said earlier, don’t force-feed the fans.

  • Scourge says:

dBomb, if you’re talking about the boxingnews24 homepage, I don’t think this is his own website, he just writes for it so it’s not his banner with all the all time greats on it.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

d bomb its not my homepage i didnt create boxingnews24, i just write for them so what the hell are you talking about??

  • dBomb says:

    I rest my case…you’re not a credible writer….

  • joeseabee says:

    arshaid,

i’ll tell you this! it’s better for you to pick which side are you this early, so that the fans know where they stand, behind you or against you! floyd or manny? that simple!

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

what homepage are you talking about?? i dont get you dbomb

  • Scourge says:

LOL, joeseabee, I am Filipino, maybe you’re the pretender, you sound too ignorant to be one and you joined the Pacman bandwagon. Not to say I’m not a fan of Pac, I’m a big fan actually but that doesn’t mean I will simply deny that Floyd has talent.

Ibrar, I apologize, I interpreted what you said incorrectly. Though these guys will probably wont make the best of all time list, there will be those who remember them as having guts and heart like no other. I think fighters have that one fight that definitely defines their career, so far Floyd hasn’t had that.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

D bomb- i told you before its not just about who you fight its what u achieve that makes a great. if you wana play dumb games like name me one fighter who is better than hagler hearns or duran that mayweather fought, then how about this.. name me one fighter that sugar ray leonard fought that was a five weight champion like de la hoya? go on…
name me a fight that generated more popularity from the entire world than mayweather v dela hoya go on… how many times did leonard lose in his 5 weight voyage compared to floys? my point is this is all irelevant and your being unreasonable so stop with the dumb questions

  • dBomb says:

So, Ibrar, your homepage just made my case clear…lol…i guess you need to change it to something else, like i dont know, whoever Mayweather fought…

  • dBomb says:

Cmon Ibrar…i’m still waiting for your answer to my question…..

And btw, you’re home page happens to show all those all time great fighters i mentioned….even after those long years, these fighters are still immortalized…

another case in point, do you think 10 to 20 years from now writers will show in their home page or screensavers the face of the fighters Mayweather fought en route to his championship belts?

    Answer

  • Mark says:

Ok Floyd is a great ducker on and off the ring. But man that guy is so boring to watch. The reason he had 2.3 million pay per view buys with delahoya is because delahoya. Not because of floyd. Pacquaio on the other hand knows how to box knows how to move and can trade punches with the best of them. Thats why people consider him as the best. And you say your a pacquiao Fan. thats BS. It sounds like your on mayweathers BK Nts.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

joeseabee- i am a pacman fan so stop saying ‘my boy’ mayweather. we r not arguing over who is the better fighter because they have not met yet. pound for pound ryt now manny is the better fighter. JOSE LUGO stated that floyd is overrated and im proving him wrong. Jorge Lugo and ppl like u are killing the sport. we have 2 amazingly gifted fighters who are going to face off how tha hell can you degrade any one of these fighters or the fight itself??

  • joeseabee says:

i got hit, so, what do you expect? just stand here and watch? duh!!!

  • Jseaport says:

Once again Pacfans, BOXING is to hit and don’t get hit. That’s why it’s not called BRAWLING.

  • joeseabee says:

i don’t care about you scourge. and don’t pretend to be a filipino, coz you’re not, nuts!

  • dBomb says:

Oh yes. Let’s include Roberto Duran amongst those 2 boxers i mentioned. So you got 3 opponents you can compare to. Hagler, Hearns and Duran.

Now what you got in Mayweathers? Lets hear it.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

ok scourge where did i write that fights dont mean anything??? please quote me??
i wrote if u read my post that what makes a fighter great is primarily what he has achived in his career. if your a 3 weight cham or a 5 weight champ or a 3 time heavyweight champ thats what makes you great. yes great fights help but not PRIMARILY. Gatti vs Ward are the best fights ever yes? but would any of these fighters even come in the top 30 great fighters of all time ?? NO. respect to them for the fight but they are no floyd mayweather or manny pacquiao or de la hoya

  • joeseabee says:

your boy decided to keep his extra 2 lbs. it’s better to pay penalty rather than loosing it to marquez…that’s the fact. poor marquez (but i’m with you even if you lose from his boy), because you’re a true warrior! unlike this writer’s boy, he doesn’t want to take the risk, to entertain the fans! he’s just thinking only of himself. that’s called smart to the writer arshaid. loosing fans and supporters is the smarthest thing to do. viva filipinas! viva pacquiao!

  • Joriz says:

Remember when sugar ray came back after a “long retirement due to some condition”, Hagler!.. How crazy was that? If floyd did the same thing, we wont be having this article at all…

  • Luis says:

Mr. Arshaid, answer me one question,
So y did Mayweather not meet catch weight againsts the warrior JMM, even thouhg JMM went up 2 divisions, thats a lot & to still fight ur opponent at another 10lbs, come on…I think Mayweather did not loose a lbs becuase he KNEW what JMM was capable of if he had met the weight, & I will tell u another true statement….If JMM had the same weight that Mayweather has now, do u thing Mayweather would give him the rematch? I thing NOT…he is scared….let me know what u think..

  • Scourge says:

joeseabee, you sound like a 6th grader trying to make his point. Before you talk smack, first realize that Ibrar did say that he is a fan of Pacman, all he’s trying to do is prove Jorge Lugo wrong and that Floyd is not overrated. Response like those is what’s going to give us Filipinoes a bad name.

  • emlyfe says:

Floyd will win against Pac Man and he is certainly not overated. This guy is the Master of his craft, Boxing. How can anyone say that Floyd didn’t fight anyone? Wow.. If hatton and Dela hoya were washed up when they fought Floyd What the hell were they when they fought Manny? And for Cotto he was a good fighter until he got into the ring with Mr Cast hands. I will not say his name as cheater need not be reconized. After that fight he was hospitalized and was consenplating not returning to the sport. To me he hasn’t been the same since that fight.

  • dBomb says:

    Hey Ibrar,

So let me ask you this? How many of those opponents Mayweather fought is such a good quality opponent so much so you could compare them to Marvin Hagler and Tommy Hearns?

    Let us hear it..

  • Scourge says:

dBomb as much as I agree with what you said, Ibrar does make a good point that there is nobody else out there that is undefeated which is also a 5 division. Floyd did beat some credible fighters for those belts so can’t take that away from him.

I disagree with you though, Ibrar that fights doesn’t mean anything. Boxers are remembered for their fights, not their records. Don’t we remember Gatti because of those three memorable and entertaining fights? Aren’t we going to remember Pac’s second round KO of Hatton or him beating Cotto that the referee had to step in? The only highlight I remember which is that of Mayweather is when he KO’d Corrales and when Judah gave him a low blow.

  • joeseabee says:

so, what are you waiting for? let’s get ready to rumble!!!
don’t be a cry baby if only a few likes mayweather, you can’t force-feed the fans of your so-called facts. who’s on top now? who has 7 world titles in 7 weight divisions? there’s only one boxer who achieved this, and everyone knows who am i talkin’ about.
the fans liked to watch a war between your boy and our man!
in your article, you’re insinuating that our man is not smart, and only your man is smart! you only insulted the philippines and the filipinos as a whole!
i know why you’re doin’ this? because of the fact that pacman has more fans than that of your idol! that’s the fact! and it’s hard to swallow the fact, it’s like swallowing a rock!

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

d bomb- ok il just crush ur argument ryt now. if leonard was not a five weight champ he would not be recognised as the great fighter he is today simply because he beat duran. ali would not be the great fighter he is today if he hadnt been 3 times world heavyweight champion. so dont say that its not what u achieve but its who you fight because thats dumb. achievements make greats. oscar, leonard, pacquiao, ali, roy jones jnr r all greats because they won world titles against world champions in atleast 5 diffrent divisions. not because they fought good fighters cmon have a bit of decency

  • Daveyboy says:

    Hey author

How long it take from submitting your article until it was published – thinking of one myself?
    Well composed article BTW.

  • PavelPipovoich says:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the greatest fighter of this era – given fact. If people say his fights are boring, they should go on and watch MMA. It is clearly the sweet science of Floyd, the craftmanship he possesses and above all his brain during the fight which makes him the pound-4-pound king. He uses his head – that’s why he protects it so damn well. What’s wrong with that?

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

erm obviously the cotto fight was more entertaining scourge. that doesnt mean anything. i’l tell u a fight that was more entertaing than cotto pacman how about ward vs gatti, but that doesnt mean anything all it means that the 2 styles of the fighters make it a brawl. mayweather boxes and that is guaranteed no matter who he fights he boxes.
if floyd fights mosley now that would be dumb because the bigger fight for him is pacman. and secondly when mosley was champ he ducked floyd so y shud floyd give him a chance now?? i think margarito, cotto and mosley have 2 sort their diffrences out in second fights then they can step to the big boys in mayweather ans pacquiao

  • dBomb says:

Floyd is sooo overrated. Period. That’s the truth!

Look, even to a casual fan, if you ask him about Sugar Ray Leonard or Hagler or Hearns. Do you think they would know the number of wins they have? or whether they’re undefeated in 40 wins or so? Who cares? What people remember is the fight between Sugar Ray vs Duran. Hagler vs Hearns for 3 rounds. Those were awesome!! Ali vs Frazier in the Thrilla in Manila! That’s a fight!!! That’s what boxing is all about!

I saw Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and what is it? 42-0 record undefeated and he fights like a schoolboy…

Undefeated record don’t mean any Sh#t! Who you fought in your generation is what matters the most!

Btw, its not that Pacquiao won all those BIG fights against future Hall of Famers, its how he DID it!! Like what Larry Merchant said, “Pacquiao did not dance around on his way to victory, Pacquiao ate them all alive!!”

    Period.

  • Dewi Powell says:

Mosley blamed a loose tooth for the reason he didn’t want to fight Mayweather in 2006! Absolute fact, it was after his second fight with Vargas. Now who’s ducking who …

  • jbetz1738 says:

Floyd has not ducked anyone, and does not run around in the ring. keep drinking the Pac-man Kool-Aid. All I want to know is what people will say once manny gets beat by Floyd?

  • Scourge says:

Ibrar, I was asking you if you found the Marquez-Mayweather bout more entertaining than that of Pacquiao-Cotto.

About Mosley, I remember hearing or reading somewhere that Mosley did just have like a couple fights and he needed a break? I don’t know, something like that. Besides, if Floyd takes that fight now, doesn’t that work to his advantage? He has a better chance of beating Mosley now than he did back then.

  • Anonymous says:

    Ibrar Arshaid,
why do you called peoples stupid because they are disagree with you?
sound like you been giving Fly a BJ!!! lolz

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

ok i dont understand y ppl say say mosley.
mosley ducked floyd mayweather TWICE in 2002. TWICE when Mosley was champion, he dint wana fight floyd then but now the tables have turned he wants a shot. for that reason i think he shouldnt get his shot floyd now. maybe after the pacman mayweather fight but not anytime before that.
    check it out ppl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPJhvYXKZK8

  • Scourge says:

Honestly, I don’t know why Floyd just wont take a better fight, I’m pretty sure he will fair well against other welterweights. I’m a big Pac fan but I would actually rather see Mosley-Mayweather.

  • simon says:

Im a huge fan of boxing and its strange to me how people can slag off any of these 2 greats, they are both 2 of the greatest boxers of all time.
I think it would be one hell of a fight but for me i think mayweather would beat manny.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

powell- i will defo check your article out
ok someone said did any find the marquez fight pleasing? erm yes i did because it was boxing mastery, one sided but it was just art the same way May beat Gatti it wasnt the fact that the fight was one sided but it was amazing to see this guy at work. Marquez ppl is not a bad boxer. he is a mexican great its just that the way he was outboxed ppl use excuses to take cred away from floyd. yes marquez put on weight but so did floyd when he beat oscar

  • Fistic Artist says:

Jorge, grow up… It’s not about “blowing his article out of the water.” Make valid points and don’t just rant your opinions… Even if you don’t like Floyd, overrated is a supreme exaggeration… Manny has great fights, Floyd is a great fighter!!!

And BOXING EXPERT… Judah really only won the first and second round… Floyd won that fight easily….

  • Scourge says:

Weren’t these so called “people who knows boxing” also said that Cotto was too big and too strong for Pacquiao?

  • dean says:

floyd will school manny period …anyone who knows boxing can tell you that..

  • Dewi Powell says:

Ibrar i like this article, i’m in the middle of doing an article about why Mayweather & Pacquiao deserve more credit from their critics so let me know what you think of it when it’s done :)

As for this article i completely agree, Mayweather has enough people on his record to show he’s not overrated. Just one thing though, he was 150lbs for the DLH fight.

  • Joriz says:

Ali, sugar ray and others have become all time great because they never dodged anybody. They fight even if the challenge and odds were totally against them. The best thing was they came out victor on those fights. You heard about what floyd said when asked about those things by Ruggedman. You cannot categorically say that for floyd. Like Floyd himself said it’s all about money for him first and foremost. YES Floyd started brilliantly in his career defeating everybody out but that doesn’t mean anything. It’s how you finish and end your career with BANG. He’s not doing that. Still Rugged was still right on the money. Those records don’t mean nothing until you fight the best. He’ll end up in oblivion if he keeps dodging the best fighters around. Ali had a big mouth too but he fought everybody. Until floyd faces the best, he’s OVERRATED….

  • Anonymous says:

But i think FMW is not overrated, His a great boxer period.

  • Scourge says:

I think the reason why Floyd is not getting the credit he deserves is because he keeps demanding that he gets it and second he always makes up some excuse. I like Floyd, he is probably the most talented fighter in boxing today but at the same time, you and the other “real boxing fans” can’t honestly say that you enjoyed his bout with Marquez than that of Pacquiao-Cotto that happened last week?

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

being outboxed and made to look ordinary is worse than being knocked out. ask roberto duran about that after the second fight with leonard.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

erik- yes floyd does not want to get knocked out. who the hell does. name me one fighter who gets into the ring and wants to get knocked out. manny doesnt wana get knocked out so he knocks others out. floyd doesnt wana get knocked out so he doesnt get hit. pretty simple really. and yes it is boxing, find the meaning of what boxing is 2

  • Daveyboy says:

Jorge Lugo exposed his lack of boxing knowledge by making the comment about Mayweather being overrated. I already dealt with his biased opinions on his comment page to his article.

  • Anonymous says:

I don’t know about you guys but comparing FMW to Sugar Ray, Ali Etc is that a joke. I will understand if he use that running game against Mosley or other big hard hitting opponent but with Marquez, wow! I like the old school Floyd, the one who beat Gatti and Diego C. but i think we will never see that same FMW again. His a great boxer but if he keep fighting same level of opponent, his going to end up behind the shadow of Pacquaio.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

truth is i am pretty sick of people being so ignorant. i apologis if ive offended you its just that what u said abot undefeated doesnt mean anything was incorrect cos like i said undefeated is one thing but undefeated in 5 divisions is another. my aim of this article is for people to recognise how wrong Jorge Lugo sayin floyd is overrated. so once again apologies to the fans if im comming on aggressive

  • Erik says:

YOU THINK THE FANS WOULD PAY $50 BUCKS TO WATCH A SPARRING SESSION,WITH FLOYD RUNNING AROUND AND NOT ENGAGING? THIS IS BOXING AND NOT A TRACK MEET, AND FANS WANT TO SEE A FIGHT IF THEY ARE GOING TO PAY, BUT FLOYD IS SCARED OP GETTING KNOCKED OUT, PERIOD!

  • matt w says:

i cudnt agree more with the writer…. i read and commentened on that article thinkin “what the hell”.

Mayweather is the king, im english and can c that for god sake” Also manny suffers vs counter punchers and mayweather is prob the best counter puncher ever the grace the sport.

  • THE HITMAN says:

Impressive article, Find it strange to see mayweather gettin the comments he does on this site…

  • Scourge says:

He is not overrated and no I don’t think there are any other fighter out there that is undefeated and a 5 time champ, hence why I think he’s not overrated.

Furthermore, you’re not gonna get a lot of support or respect for your article. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean you can just call them stupid or an idiot.

  • Randy says:

The article brings good arguments and I believe it adds heat to mayweather-pacquiao fight if ever that happen. But based on what I know about these two fighters, I can see mayweather running around the ring with blooded face on fightnight with manny. With due respect to Floyd.

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

manny pac man, floyd beat oscar at 157 pounds
Manny beat Oscar at 147 a weight oscar hadnt made since 10 years prior
and these ‘if’s and but’s’ dont mean nuthin. if oscar did this or that…etc.floyd beat him.
the same way manny beat marquez in the second fight. i can say if marquez did this or that or if this happened or that BUT im not gna go into all that so stop being stupid

  • manny pac fan says:

Roach will come up with the perfect game plan for manny to beat floyd. If De le hoya could of seen the fight through properly he would of beat floyd hands down if time was called in the first 6 DLH would of won losing a round maybe at the most…

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

yes manny beat cotto full respect for manny thats y he is pound for pound best and will stay there until floyd beats him.
BUT PEOPLE PLEASE UNDERSTAND JORGE LUGO STATED WITH SUCH CONFIDENCE THAT FLOYD IS OVERRATED. PLEASE COMMENT ON THAT AS WELL BECAUSE I THINK HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT BOXING IF HE THINKS A FIVE WEIGHT CHAMP FLOYD IS OVERRATED

  • Cyrenn says:

Your a douche bag:( One the the last fading Mayweather fans: ) I hope you enjoy his boxing match with Hatton Jr LOL!

  • Jorge Lugo says:

Your article was “ehhh” as you tried to argue for Mayweather’s benefit. However! I saw alot of loop hols and openings for real debate! I will give you the time for people to comment in but in the agreed 42hrs I will respond! N when I do, I WILL blow your article out the water!!!

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

and who’s the other guy scrouge, what did u say undefeated records dont mean squat, yh i agree with you, but il tell u what son when your undefeated and a five weight champion that is one heck of a big deal. u named valuev, ok i can name calzaghe aswell so good point but i got one for you or any1 for that..name me one fighter hu is undefeated n is a five weight champ?? any can be undefeated but not a five weight champ as well

  • Anonymous says:

Floyd is going to beat manny just like he made light work of Marquez. Although Manny is a different fighter now, Marquez took him to the brink both times they fought and many still think Marquez should have won at least of the fights. Floyd is the best defensive fighter we have possibly every witnessed, and in boxing good defense beats good offense every time. Hence the name ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd, he never gets in the face and the same will be true when he leaves the ring undefeated after fighting Manny.

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

he is not overatted but who has he fought that was tougher than cotto? He should have one loss to castillo in there first fight, castillo was robbed bigtime, he couldnt even ko judah and was losing the first half of the fight – judah sux! And he is all talk he said he was gonna ko marquez and he couldnt even hurt him even with the big weight advantage!

  • Anonymous says:

santiago and perez suck each others ba11s

  • Ibrar Arshaid says:

you cant compare him to leonard?
r u stupid? i can compare them because they both pretty much accomplished the same thing in boxing…5 weight champions.
Leonard is recognised as one of the greatest fighters of all time and so are all 5 weight champs
others including roy jones, Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, so yes i can compare him to ali but not saying he is better than any
bob- Floyd mayweather?Castillo 2x, Corrales, Zab Judah, Arturo Gatti, Baldomir, De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marquez

  • munch says:

wether he hand picks opponents or not, the question remains………….will he beat pacquiao?? it will be a boxing lesson, it will we boring to the people who dont know much about the sport but to the real fans it will be floyd issuing another “how you box” manual

  • ReviveBoxing says:

Seriosuly though its guys like Mayweather that are killing the sport so much, if he loves money so much why not become a dancer instead of a boxer or a ballerina, seeming as he just dances around the ring with out every actually trading punches.

  • Kar says:

    Great article man.

  • Scourge says:

Undefeated records doesn’t mean squat. Nikolai Valuev was undefeated until he lost to Chagaev but before that lost was he recognized as the best heavyweight? Heck no, I didn’t even know who he was until 2 years ago and that’s because all he fought was a bunch of nobodies. I don’t think Floyd is overrated but you shouldn’t compare him to Leonard or Ali because they fought the best of their time. Floyd is fighting mediocre or past their prime opponents. He did have some credible opponents such as Corrales but when was the last time we saw Floyd fight someone who would actually make people go and wonder how the fight will go down? The reason why Manny gets more respect than Floyd is because Manny has fought opponents who are supposedly stronger and bigger than him and a lot of people thought he would not win but then he did. I do agree that Floyd has some mad skills but as a boxing fan, I was really bored when I saw his fight with Marquez and thanked God that I didn’t order it on ppv. I know that there’s going to be the “true boxing fans” or those admirers of the “sweet science” but most people that watch are there to see action, not a waiting game.

  • MayweatherIsNotOverRatedButVeryBoring says:

I think Mayweather with out a doubt has the best defense and accuracy in boxing today, but seriosuly he has like the worse choice of oppenents that he picks and he is just so god dam boring, its like when u watch him u know its going to be a long night.

  • Shelton says:

Aggressive but true. I been sending basically the same message in all my coments. We hate him so we take away his credit that is undeniable and that somewhere deep in our minds we hate him because we know he is right. He is that good but of course manny is the people’s champ so we make excuse for him when he dodges fights and comes up with catch weights that Roach knows he can win at. That’s what sells, the ignorants of the fans is what mayweather get paid off of. He knows it that’s why he does it and without this ego he would be chad dawson, a beautiful defensive fighter that has struggled to get the fights and credit he deserves. Peace

nice article and i agree with you. As a purist, to me, Mayweather is poetry in motion. your going to get the obligatory “your a hater and you dont know what your talking about” comments but i enjoy reading your stuff mr arshaid.

pacquiao? morales 3x, barrera 2x, delahoya, cotto, hatton, and a dozen more division champs

  • David 'The Stallion' Driscoll says:

Brilliant article!!!! Just because Floyd doesnt go out all guns blazing ppl think hes boring. Floyd is a master of the art of boxing and I do not believe theres anyone alive who could beat him. Bring on Pacquaio!

I don’t think mayweather is over rated. But I definitely think he ducks people. His history shows it.

  • bob says:

you cant compare him to ali either. ali fought foreman, frazier, liston, patterson, norton etc. name at least three legendary fighters mayweather fought?

  • bob says:

you cant compare mayweather to sugar ray leonard, lenard fought duran, hearns, hagler, benitez, etc.

  • dash says:

I agree, people who say Floyd is overrated are complete and utter idiots.

And why do people say Shane mosley should fight manny next. What has done? Struggled against Mayorga and he should’ve lost that fight, then beat Margarito? THE MAN’S LOST 6 TIMES IN HIS CAREER. that isn’t a win to hype about. Especially since we saw what manny did to Cotto(Sugar shane’s conqueror).
