Lennox Lewis feels Vitali Klitschko would be a problem for Haye
By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis thinks that World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko would be problems for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, according to the BBC. Lewis, who struggled to beat Vitali on cuts in a 6th round stoppage in 2003, had this to say about Haye fighting Vitali: “If he [Haye] fights Vitali it will be very difficult for him.”
Haye wouldn’t be able to pot shot and win rounds against Vitali, because he would be returning fire with combinations, not single shots, and I doubt that Haye’s brittle chin would hold for more than round or two with big Vitali pounding him. Lewis does, however, think that Haye could possibly beat IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, saying “I would say Wladimir is the easier…I see him beating one” [Klitschko brother].
What Lewis doesn’t say is how much of a chance he feels that Haye would have against Wladimir. It would be interesting if Lewis would give Haye a big shot at beating Wladimir or if he feels that it would be only a puncher’s chance. Personally, I give Haye only a very small chance of stopping Wladimir. I think it’s possible if Haye fights with a lot of aggression. However, if Haye fights the way he did against Valuev, he’ll be easily beaten by Wladimir.
Haye will have big problems as it is just trying to get past Wladimir’s jab. Haye looked kind of short and fat against Valuev, and threw a lot of wild haymaker shots. Most of the time, Haye’s punches missed badly. All it would take is one hard left hook from Wladimir when Haye is throwing one of his wild shots and it will all over for him. Haye will have to take huge risks just to land his shots because Wladimir won’t be standing straight up like Valuev.
Instead, Wladimir will lean back and using his jab and left hook. Haye won’t get any chances to land a pot shot from close range because Wladimir won’t let Haye get near him without clinching him. Wladimir won’t throw any rights hand unless he’s sure that Haye is out of position or blinded by a jab.
Once Wladimir connects with his first right hand, it’s doubtful that Haye will still remain standing. Based on the many fights I’ve seen of Haye, I’d give him a 3% chance of beating Wladimir. Haye has no chance of beating Vitali. This is why I am certain that Wladimir won’t be who Haye goes after.
Haye’s going to try and call Wladimir out and if Wladimir isn’t willing to take the fight, perhaps because of the way Haye pulled out on him last time he tried to fight Haye, then Haye will have no other choice but to fight Vitali if he’s so badly wants to fight one of the Klitschko. But I don’t think he will. Not now, not ever.

P.S. If you watch the victories of Solis (especially against Monte Barrett, needed only 2 rounds), you´ll see that some fighters have just the wrong promoter and coach. Haye got his fight after only one victory against Barrett, so it´s not about sport, i guess.
Boxing is about business. For a big payday, Wladimir can be KOd by Haye and his big brother will take “revenge”. All the discussions around just feed this business. Don´t take it so serious, guys, there´ll not be an “undisputed” champion in the near future when promoters don´t agree about sharing the benefits of one golden cow. One is clear: Haye is just better for the business than the boring Klitschkos.
The only problem is know problem for the klitschko brothers.
What i want to know is what makes you think you’re fit to judge these elite fighters and make your little dishonourable predictions? Fair enough if you were up there as one of the best fight writers around but you’re not you’re actually at the very lowest level possible. Put plainly you’re USELESS!!!
Chicken sh!t Lewis should know as he retired before he would fight Vitali again because he new he had met some one in the ring who he couldn’t bully with his size and would have ended up getting knock out!!!!!!and not for the first time.
Vitali is old now, who knows what he has left. He hasnt exactly fought or been tested. There is every chance he could crumble under the first decent punch that hits him at the age he is
haye round one EASY EASY!!!!!!!!
Bang on the money there Scott.
scott you are an a** h***
Haye will loose to both Klitchkos brothers 100%, he does not have any chance against both of them!!!!!!
Another steaming pile of BS from Scott Gilturd…
i dont diss writers 2 often but he wasnt going to stand toe 2 toe with valuez thats not his normal boxing to run but right tatics for that fight watch his other fights short and fat 6 3 16 stone hes one of the most if not most in shape heavyweight around you spoon
Scott you’ve once again proved your bias and lack of knowledge. Any boxer with Haye’s KO ratio (21 of 23 wins, 1 loss) surely can’t do a great deal of running. Running doesn’t win early round KOs; just ask Dirrell. As for looking short and fat… at 6′3″ and 15 stone 8 lb, Haye looked like he was carved from stone. You know, like the Heavyweights used to be before they started to rely on simply being heavy, like Arreola, Chambers, Toney and no doubt several other American ‘contenders’
Scott are you on crack??? Haye short and fat???????
Whatever Haye is, and he’s no second coming of Ali, short and fat he is not!!!!!
Haye was very disciplined against Valuev, i was expecting it to slip any moment. Who can say what will happen in his future fights but it will be all action, as that is his natural style and i don’t think Haye will care who he fights it will be where he can make the most money.
he obviously wouldnt use the same tactics as he did against valuev you spoon. They were the tactics for that particular fight because valuev is so big and strong. your so one dimensional its unreal writer
Short and fat? Are you confusing Haye with Americas great heavyweight hope – Chris “who ate all the pies” Arreola?
You really do have an issue with Haye dont you.
Maybe you are secretly in love with him and want some botty love.
You obviously have not seen any of Haye previous fights cus if you did, you wouldnt say he was a runner!
What a Clown!!!!!!
haye looked short and fat? Yeah scott sure he did…. You complete idiot
Why do you keep constantly saying that Haye is a “runner”. Can’t you see that that was just tactics for ONE FIGHT! If you’d actually seen any of Haye’s other fights, you’d know it’s not his usual style.
Before the Valuev fight we knew two things about Haye; he’s got power and he’s got speed. After the Valuev fight, we found out he’s also tactically sound. With these three attributes, Haye’s got the potential to beat ANYONE in the Heavyweight division.
It’s incredible how you can speak about contenders like Ward and Dirrell as if you were in love with them, but yet you can’t give a champion any credit for his achievements and highlight weaknesses (which, for the large part, don’t exist).
BTW, before the fight you said Valuev was going to knock Haye out, but now he’s “soft punching [and] slow moving”. Make you mind up. Disgraceful writing.
Yeah, he carefully picks his opponants like when he’s challenged both cruiserweight and heavyweight ring magazine champions. Idiot
The Klitschko’s and fighters such as Solis would beat Haye. Haye will not be the h/w savior that De La Hoya thinks he will be. I read an article where James Toney had started calling Haye out. Haye is going to start being called out and he will have to face those challenges. I doubt that he will though. Haye carefully chooses his opponents.
Oh dear … Scott again ?
It is clear, against Wlad Haye wins ( by Ko ), but against Vitali, Haye may possibly loose.
Wlad has a very dodgey chin ( far worse than haye’s ) and Haye will catch Wlad and quite early into the fight, make no mistake ! I entirely disagree with your prediction about haye’s possible fighting tactics against Wlad. Haye would stand there and beat Wlad with his speed of punch alone. Haye would not need to run and move like he did against the freakish mammoth that was Valuev. Wlad and Valuev are two entirely different beasts which require very different approaches.
As regards Vitali, he his hard and very strong. However, Haye is a devastating puncher and this coupled with his very, very good speed will still give him a major chance against Vitali for the first four to five rounds. I feel that if Haye lands against Vitali inside the the first half of the fight, then Vitali may suffer his first KO defeat, truly !! However, if Haye fails to make this early part count decisively, then he may himself be ko’d by Vitali later on.
He can beat either Klitschko. Yes, Vitali would appear to be the tougher of the two, but with Hayes power he COULD knock them out. If he can stun Valuev and nearly send him crashing, a man who had never been hurt up until that point, then he can send Wlad down. I think it would be a close fight. Too close to call. Sadly you’re blinded by you hatred of british fighters and could never admit that to be the case.
Btw… can anyone actually believe that Gilfoid got a prediction right in Pacqiao V Cotto??? Law of averages.
Haye can’t beat either Klit right now. Plain and simple truth.
