The thing with witter was the amount he talked, and kicking off in a post fight interview to boot. At that point hatton just didn't want to give him a big money fight.

Had witter been an international superstar he could probably have looked past it, but sadly he wasn't.

I think witter talked himself into and out of that fight. Shame really, because I like junior witter as a fighter. On his day he's excellent. Just you never knew which junior witter would show up on the night.

I also think hatton as lucky not to get pulled out against thaxton. Shows the difference a good cut man makes to a boxers career.

Hatton at one point was the most exciting fighter to watch around the world. Won multiple world titles. Probably the most popular English boxer ever in terms of likability and how genuine he comes across.
Sadly, I think a lot of people are going to remember him for the devastating loss to Pacquiao, especially in America.

good article charlie, hatton was relentness and very fit,and a great body puncher and his timeing was right to beat kostya tszyu.he boxed anybody wen defending that WBU.and hatton should of been stopped wen fighting for the british title against thaxton [BAD CUT],hatton also got floored against magee.and the same ref who he had most of his career, gave hatton a bit more time 2 recover.hatton gave every excuse not to fight witter.[GET A TITLE,NAME CALLING,YOU CANT SELL TICKETS]it went on and on with excuses and this was wen hatton was at british level,so he did avoid WITTER no dout about that.but if i was in hatton shoes and some huge, then mega money fights was comeing my way so would have i.hatton could sell tickets great fighter 2 weght world champ, was in the rite place the rite time and had a good management team around him.

Hes guna be remembered as a great brawler style boxer who accomplised plenty, and a real likable character to go with it.

His style tho flawed and not the least bit silky was enough to bully the better boxers in the LightWelter division. His list of opponants reads very nicely too, he mixed it a very level which the belts will show.

Anybody who thinks he was ever in for P4P contention is deluded, anybody who says he was scared of anybody and he actually 2nd rate are also deluded.

I simply don't see Hatton being afraid of Witter, hell he fought KT, FM, and MP. Any body that would fight these three men damn sure wasn't afraid of Witter. He must have had his reasons for not fighting him , but I don't think that fear was one of them. I will remember Hatton as an over-achiever. He was kinda short and had short arms, but he wasn't short when it came to heart and determination. He did the best with what he had and that was enough to become light welterweight champion of the world.

Ricky was a very good but not a great fighter who was found wanting against the very best. Duck Witter ? Like he is more formidable than Manny or PBF !!!!!!. Witter couldnt sell a ticket and has stunk in many of his fights. There should be no stigma for Ricky ref Witter. Ricky should call it quits now , he was on tv last night at his brothers fight and looks the same weight as David Haye. Lets just remember the good nights because a fight with Marquez, Cotto , or rematches with his 2 conquerors will all end the same way
