That is exactly what Haye did and to be fair if you was giving away 7 stone t oyour opponent, your game plan will be to not get hit. Outstanding performance on that count for Haye. Valuev simply was not allowed to use his size as a threat due to Haye’s speed and punching accuracy. If he hadnt damaged his hand we would have probably seen a K.O from Haye.
Haye is the future of Heavyweight boxing.

Hey macmori, there’s one country who’s inhabitants are renowned (that means well known) for having big “gobs” and guess what, its ain’t the u.k. I’ll give you a clue; their best two heavyweights of the last 20 years both got beaten by Lennox Lewis. Oh yeah, by the way, Ricky Hatton beat 11 americans and got beat by one.

well your opinion is your opinion, who said anything about selecting contenders via their style, i just pointed out that Ray Leoanards style frustrated Haglar, yes boxing is about Skill but the word skill covers many talents including footwork, body movement an agility and defense which has many ways to it, i guess those talents dont matter in boxing right??? Haye used his skills in that fight thats why Valuev couldnt get him and yet got hit himself. Haglar and Ray Leonard were about the same in size this fight is completely a different case,Haye BOXED his way to a win with some nice punches that landed flush and to hurt Valuev, that should say something about Hayes raw talent, nobodys done that before. Haye used controlled aggression, and would have attacked more if not for the hand injury, but ofcourse you aint gonna believe that cos if you do your argument falls apart.

I don’t think you have quite grasped the fact that boxing isn’t soley about going toe to toe. If that’s all you’re looking for from a fight, then I suggest you buy the Rocky box set and watch it over and over again. Different boxers have different attributes and use them accordingly. If Haye had traded blows then he wouldn’t have had a chance of beating Valuev. Instead he boxed smart and used his speed and skill to defeat a much bigger man. You’re basically critisising Haye for having great footwork and defence, and not being 7 foot tall and 22 stones, and why you have to bring nationality into I don’t know, but we certainly don’t think all our boxers are champions, just the ones that are or have been, like Hatton and now Haye…

Dont apologise Davey.You dont select contenders on their boxing styles you do it on their ability to box.If they cant box they wont win the title!!!The CROWD wanted Leonard to win.One judge later made the excuse that he didnt have a clear view of the fight alot of the time!!
Boxing is about skill,aggression and raw talent.Boxers should be penalized for avoiding engagement of their opponents on the scale that Haye was doing.Points given to the advancing fighter.Its boxing not dancing!!!
like with hatton and his big gob the Brits think that every Brit boxer is a champ.Mayweather put that to bed.

I didnt see the fight close at all.
Haye won a landslide if you actually use the 4 criteria to score as we all should.

On defence, Haye won every round.

On ring generalship, Haye won every round.

On clean punching, Haye scored on 10 rounds, 1 round tied, 1 for Valuev.

On effective aggressiveness, Haye not aggressive enough to score on many rounds and Valuev’s aggression was ineffective in many rounds. 10 rounds with neither winning, 1 round for Haye, 1 round for Valuev.

If Willie Pep can win a round without scoring a punch while making his man miss, then David Haye can win by landslide landing a few each round while doing the same.

Your in a dream world where your twisting boxing politics macmori. Sorry but there are different styles in boxing and Haglars style wasnt exactly right for fighting Ray Leonard, him moaning about it is pure frustration on his part. Yeah i like a good fight the punches flying but that dont always happen but i certainly appreciate why some fights dont go that way. Hayes plan was to frustrate Valuev and then deck him but unfortunately he got a hand injury,and what you saw in Round 12 is what you would have seen earlier if not for the injury, so Haye had to go to plan B and not be so aggressive as planned, plus your purely ignorant to Hayes record 23 wins 21 KOs that should tell you what Hayes all about. You`ll see a different Haye when he fights Ruiz and you`ll be thanking him for bringing life into the Heavyweight Division, Valuev was bad and boring for boxing all it was that kept him champ was his size not skill……….

another good sensible article.

to the guy who wants a rematch…wow…good god no. as the writer points out; there is actually the potential for some, y’know, good fights at heavyweight. there was nothing to suggest that anything different would happen in a rematch…tight though the fight was…it was still only going one way.

let valuev chase the klitschkos so germany can stage the ultimate bore-a-thon…they’d love that over there.

Sure, right a broken hand it was, much like the fake back injury to avoid having to face Klitschko the last time Hayewire needed to BS his way out of a tight spot. Haye seems to have an excuse ready for any and all situations.

I totally disagree..This is the very reason why Hagler retired after his fight with Ray leonard who like Haye danced around the ring and hit a few flurries.Not enough to take a champions belt.The challenger MUST TAKE the crown through a KO or at the very least a decisive knockdown.Fighters should be deducted points for retreating on a continual basis.Toe to toe boxing is all but lost.Sure Valuev is also unimpressive.He is lumbering and slow.He spent too much energy trying to hit his faster opponent.His jabs were ineffective.he did not crowd his opponent.Once Tyson got you on the ropes it was good night with no escape.Bruno got caught with a barrage of combinations before he was sent out to pasture.This fight is crying out for a rematch.Valuev will have learned dearly his silly mistakes.he did not make the connections.Politics of boxing decided this match.Clear the decks of Valuev and bring in a bit of pazazz to the heavyweight category.This should not be the case.Valuev deserves a second shot before Ruiz gets a chance.

yeah true! we need two contenders at least slightly evenly built so theres a fair match up. then the fight depends on fire power skill and chin. rather than the boring fights the klitshkos are in.
dont think many champs from the past could of coped with them.
