Haye: “I’m ready to explode right now”
By Chris Williams: David Haye is raring to go for his match this Saturday night against World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev. Haye believes that he’s going to handle Valuev without too many problems and knock him out in an impressive fashion to capture the seven foot Russian’s WBA title. “I’m ready to explode right now, but I can see why people think I will lose against the giant [Valuev],” Haye said in an article in the Mirror.
Haye has little experience at the heavyweight level and hasn’t broken his back trying to get the better experience. Haye had a chance to fight both Klitschko brothers, talking his way into the fights, but then backed away just as quickly. Other than those two fights, Haye chose to take the easy route by facing Monte Barrett and Tomasz Bonin rather than more dangerous heavyweight threats that would have had a better chance of beating him.
So Haye is effectively going from competing against the likes of Enzo Maccarinelli, Jean Marc Mormeck, Barrett and Bonin into a fight against Valuev, who would probably easily beat that entire bunch on the same night if he had to. That’s not to say that those aren’t good fighters but with Valuev’s mammoth size and reach, he would handle each of them without breaking a sweat because of their limited size.
Haye’s whole game is built around knocking out his opponents. Haye has never really developed his boxing skills to the extent that he would win fights by decision. He hasn’t had to, luckily for him. But by not having to develop his boxing skills, Haye finds himself in a situation where he might have problems if he can’t dent the chin of the seven foot Valuev. The big Russian has a great chin and has never been off his feet, so Haye is going to have to figure out another strategy to use if the knockout doesn’t come.
Haye loses a lot of his power as the rounds go by and becomes much more hittable. At 215, Haye’s punches might not have any effect on the steel chinned Valuev. If Haye is forced to fight a long 12 round bout with Valuev, Haye might find himself getting hit more than he expected to in the latter part of the fight when he tends to tire.
Against the smallish 5’9” Giacobbe Fragomeni, Haye was hit a lot in rounds seven through nine and it looked for a time there that Fragomeni might stop the badly bleeding Haye. If Haye tires as badly as he did against Fragomeni and Carl Thompson, who stopped Haye in the 5th round in 2004, then Valuev is going to take Haye out without too many problems. Haye doesn’t have the resume required to fight a champion like Valuev in the first place and that lack of experience may end up being Haye’s downfall when he finds that he’s not ready for this fight.

haye 10th round ko, come on david bring the title home
if haye dont get 2 macho he can win it i dont no if he can ko the big fella but i think he could bust him up 4 a late stopage!! but haye dose like a scrap and that could be his undoing ‘but the mans not stupid so im going wth the latter haye 2 win late
I cant wait for this, Im a big Haye fan, he makes me wait way too long between fights.
I really dont know which way this is guna go, when Haye 1st started gettin linked to the heavyweight world champions i tried to picture it all in my head and all i could see was the Vitali, Herbie Hide fight.
The closer it gets the more belief i have in Haye but i think that may by my heart overrulling my head. I dont know.
One things is for sure Haye can train all he wants for this fight but having never been in the ring with anything even remotly close to Valuev i think hes guna find it alot harder than he expects.
Im sure he knows he has to get in and out quick but so has every one of Valuevs opponants, its obviously easier said than done.
Either way i cant wait.
I never been a big fan of haye but I think he will ko mr giant in round 5 or 6. Its going to be a stupid show like tom&jerry..
show starts at 8pm
well I don’t think it’s fair to say he backed out of a fight with wlad. He was injured. Vitali, fair enough, he says the contract was terrible. Funny how contracts are only terrible when one fighter isn’t confident, but from what I saw, it wasn’t a good deal financially, and it had a rematch clause, followed by a fight against wlad. That’s a bit hardcore for a contract.
I don’t think haye has the power to take valuev out early, though if he doesn’t tire he should be able to outbox him and get a decision, like Holyfield deserved to.
sorry guys can you give me the time in the u.k if possible?
I also believe that Haye will win the fight on saturday but does anyone know what time the fight starts???
David will replicate his title winning fight in France, hes aware of what he is up against & talks in a sincere manner about the task ahead
David Haye has never fought a top ten heavyweight. FACT! Haye has ring rust as he has been out of action for a year. FACT! Valuev has never been knocked down, let alone knocked out. FACT! Haye is prone to tiring in the later rounds. FACT! Haye does not have the chin to be able to resist a hard right from Valuev. FACT! Haye will get knocked out late on and abandon the heavyweight decision. FACT! FACT! FACT! FACT! FACT!
I expect David to bamboozle the likeable giant – especially in the early rounds. And I think he’ll survive the latter of the fight to take a points victory.
loooool
the comment made by david is really funny
david haye, make or break
Ah Chris you’ve surfaced again – and still slating Haye, how funny – what will you report if he wins??? It was a fluke or dubious decision??? You’re another sad little man like your girlfriend Gilfoid, perhaps you’re just bored of life – get a hobby mate!
Hate to say cos I would like david to win but haye is gonna punch himself out trying, like he did against carl thompson, and then sucombe to the giants weighty arms.
Haye better win after all of the trash talking he has been doing. If Haye loses, he will look like a clown.
I watched Valuev vs Owen Beck the other day. Valuev knocked Beck flying with one uppercut. I wonder what would happen to Haye if he got hit by that sort of punch. I think that Haye would also be knocked down and possibly counted out from that sort of punch. Haye has terrible defensive skills. I cannot see Haye being able to avoid being caught by Valuev.
Guys he will knock valuev out watch and mark my words, i will come back here and wanna see what chris williams will say about the win of haye
i agree with you david he will defo win on saturday by ko and he will unifiy the heaveyweight devison for years not even tyson , lewis or ali would beat haye he is david the haymaker haye he is unstopable.
david haye is the best boxer since ali FACT!!! he will win by ko in the 2nd round FACT!!! he would ko mike tyson even when mike was in his prime haye would destroy him FACT!!!! hayes is the best in the world at the miniute easily and u will see on saturday FACT FACT FACT!!!!!
