Hatton vs Khan: The fight I want to see

By Dennis Broadhurst: Okay boxing fans of America this one is probably not for you so I would suggest not reading on. This article is for the Brits, I want to explain why Hatton vs Khan would be a good fight and also good for the career the winner. Starting with Ricky, with two losses in his last four fights, both by knockout, it would seem that Hatton may have ended his career by going after the best. Hatton has taken time over deciding whether to return to the ring but it seems like he is going to, going on what he has been saying in recent interviews.
Hatton does not have good defense but he can move his head a little when he is on the right game plan, it is clear that everyone in America thinks that Hatton has a glass chin but lets face it, if Mayweather was caught with the punch that put Ricky out then he would have at least gone down. So we have that in terms of skill, Hatton was perhaps overrated but in terms of courage and even chin to some part he has recently been underrated.
Hatton’s weakness is his defence, he just tends to try to walk through punches before landing his own which does not work against juggernauts such as Pacquiao or slickers such as Myweather. Hatton as all boxers do has his strengths, he has a decent chin, he has bags of courage, quite good power and he is a very good body puncher. At this stage in his career Haton could rebuild it with a win over Khan but it may not happen because of Frank Warren.
Now lets look at Khan, he is simply a fast puncher with a good trainer and has bags of determination. Roach has given Khan decent defence but Khan still has that wobbly chin. Khan could beat Hatton over twelve rounds with his fast hands but only if he could keep his hands up. I think that with his killer training camps that if Khan built a little more power then he would be able to do an okay job of keeping Hatton off him.
Khan could also be the man to be destroyed by Hatton, his weak chin and untested body may along with ihs lack of big fight experience could lead him into a late round stoppage from The Hitman. The reason that Khan could do with a win on his record of Hatton is that it would be the old British war-horse on his record, of course some would say Hatton was finished or the Mancunians would hate Khan but at the end of the day if Khan beat Hatton then he could be on the road to success.
I think that in the early rounds it would be Khan constantly moving and hitting Hatton but with Hatton getting in close a couple of times per round with vicious body shots (a little Rocky Balboa style). I do not think that Khan would keep a determined Hatton off him for twelve rounds and I would predict an 11th round stoppage in favour of Hatton as he got his hard shots in more frequently. Of course there is the chance of the opposite with Khan out-boxing Hatton and taking his shots but lets face it, Khan will not KO Hatton as he is not Pacquiao with crazy power and we have seen that he does not have great punch resistance.
Despite picking Hatton to win I still think it would be a great fight as Hatton would be trying to walk through Khan’s soft but fast punches and then land his bombs. The two fighters would have more respect for each other afterwards and the British fans would be rewarded with a great fight.

Great article – i doubt the fight will ever happen though
Hatton is like the Joe Pesci character in Casino, you beat him and he’ll keep coming back again and again, the only way to beat him as we all know is to kill him, I’m afraid Ricky Amir might just do that to you lad. Speed Kills. Go and order another full englsh down your local n stay there mate.
khan would put hatton to sleep u knobs
Am i the only one that thinks Hatton would smash Khan’s face clean in?
Rediculous fight never going to happen
Khan vs Hatton would be the best british fight for a long time. I agree with oli that both boxers have respect/fear for each other. Khan has alot more options than hatton so maybe he would be less eager for the fight wheras hatton would risk losing his legendary british fighter status if he loses to khan. I would personally edge khan as i believe he would be too fast for hatton. This prescoot undercard fight seems to hint that a rematch isnt too far in the horizon!
Hatton ny knock out
Ricky found ur old trainer Billy Gram and return to action. Ricky and Gram is a good comb, because Gram had Ricky back little that he know. When Ricky was on top it was because of the team they had, call a bond. Ricky u need Gram back to become Champion again. Mayweather is a good trainer but it’s not like havin a guy in ur corner that knows has fighter. Gram and Ricky won Championship togather, and it’s not the fighter or the trainer it’s the bond between one another.
Geez fellas, that brave brit hatton walks all over amir in this one.
I think Ricky Hatton would beat Amir Khan, it would only a minimal amount of punishing body shots and Khan would be on his back. His best chance would be to run!
This is the wrong fight for Khan anyway, beacuse if he wins the British public will hate him even more so than they do now.
I would like Khan to have a rematch with Prescott, just to see if it was, as Khan said, a one off…….
Hey ya’ll, just Sausages here with his take on this!! Worry for Hatton would be that Khan would dance round all night throwing fast one twos and moving and Hatton night look foolish. Sausages does think that eventually Hatton would force him onto ropes/corner and would hurt him with body shots followed by a leaping left hook that landed. Therefore upon reflection sausages has to agree with your thoughts Dennis!
I would pay good money to see Hatton smash Amir Khan up, his ego is getting far to big and he is fast turning into Naseem Hamed.
ricky should run head first into his refrigerator. with the door shut.
amir khan vs kendall holt. why not? il tell u why..coz kendall holt is quick and can bang and isnt old thats why
Hatton looks like a heavywight
As an American boxing fan. I would like to see Hayes and Klitshco (either one). That would be an exceptional fight showcasing Hayes skill and bringing much needed vigor into a lackluster division.
Okay M. ALI you tell me why the fight wont happen then? You little gimp i pay enough in PPV money watching them both il say whatever i think, if gimps like you dont like it them your on the wrong website you nob head
average article dennis. u just cant say anything positive about khan. he will sickin you when he takes on a big hitter in the new year and is victorious. someone like miadana wud fit the bill, wouldnt it dennis.
good critisism oli!!! im sure your a tough guy who takes a punch like jake lamotta. i just love boxing critics who sit infront their computer and state that boxers are cowards. when the bravest thing theyll do is type infametry things on forums! ooooowwww!
i dont see the value in this fight. khan has many good apponants at light welter. these two are good friends so i couldnt see them battling it out trying to knock each others head off. khan could fight cambell, madaina, bradley, ortiz or even prescott rematch. all good fights!
khan has more power than u think Dennis, he just lost a lot of it because he doesnt plant his feet much and he doesnt train for power punching anymore, besides he fought kotelnik who has a great chin and khan kept him off, so khan could KO ricky if hatton takes collective punihsment over 10 to 12 rounds
il explain…khan is scared of anyone who can hit harder than an old lady, and hatton is scared of what it will look if just IF he were to get beat by of all people a muppet like amir khan
No point considering it. A million quid says it definatly wont happen. Both are too scared of each other haha
