Foreman picks Cotto to beat Pacquiao – Boxing News

roach56334By Manuel Perez: Former two time heavyweight champion George Foreman is picking World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto to beat Manny Pacquiao this Saturday night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Sportinglife. Foreman says “I think there would have been a good opportunity for Pacquiao to win if he faced Cotto before he fought Clottey, but now Cotto is thinking defense,” Foreman said.

I agree with Foreman. Cotto is much more defensively minded now since the fight with Clottey and won’t be easily hit by Pacquiao on Saturday night. Foreman has a good eye for boxing talent and obviously can see how Cotto has adapted since the loss to Mexican warrior Antonio Margarito last year. Foreman says “I think Cotto is going to pull out a decision, and now because of the terrible beating he took against Margarito, he knows he can’t get into a knockout drag-out brawl. He’s going to be smarter and I think Cotto in a 12 round decision.”

I think Cotto can get involved in a brawl with Pacquiao and still win without too many problems. He has the bigger power, then tougher chin and is used to being hit by much harder punchers than little Pacquiao. Cotto stood up to Margarito’s punches for nine rounds before getting hurt in the 10th and stopped in the 11th.

Cotto also took Shane Mosley’s fast and powerful shots for 12 rounds and ended up beating him by a 12 round decision. I think Mosley hits harder than Pacquiao and is about as fast as him. Cotto has also stood up to the blazing shots from Zab Judah, and beaten him as well. Judah, when he fought Cotto, was as fast as Pacquiao. So you see, Foreman has it right, Cotto will win. I see it as a knockout, but I’m okay with Cotto beating Pacquiao by a one-sided 12 round decision. If it turns out that way, it will give Cotto more time to give Pacquiao a terrible beating and show to the boxing world who the superior fighter is.

I kind of hope it does last that long, but I can’t see it happening unless Cotto holds back with his power shots and purposely carries Pacquiao in this fight. I know Cotto won’t do that, because he’ll want to take Pacquiao out as fast as he can to prove Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, wrong. Roach has made the bold prediction that Pacquiao will knock Cotto out in the 1st round. It’s a silly prediction, and I don’t believe a word of it.

I just think that Roach needed to say something that he felt would shock Cotto and what’s more shocking than saying that he’ll be knocked out in the 1st round? Roach should have at least made himself seem more credible by picking the 5th or 6th rounds, because it’s hard to believe him when he’s making a prediction as crazy that.

It’s like saying that the diminutive Ricky Hatton has a better chin than Cotto. Does anyone believe that? If so, tell me in what fight did Cotto get knocked out in the 1st round or even hurt in the first five rounds?

WOW if you had one article then that would have been a big fail, but the fact that you have wrote so many leaves you no option but to stop writing, its very sad indeed, we will miss your jokes

  • joeisland says:

Fist let me start by saying.. Since I was a kid boxing has been my favorite sport to watch. With that said, it is in my opinion most it can also be one the most corrupt sports in the business.

I was reading boxing articles about the fight.. Something that caught my attention was the number of articles talking about the “Next” fight, the fight with Pacman and “Cherry Picker” Mayweather. I have watched and followed many fights in my life and it doesn’t take much brain to know that money makes boxing go round. There is not another fight in the world of boxing that would make more money that putting Both Pac and Mayweather in the same ring. There are already discussions about a March fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. at Cowboys Stadium. Yes, Cowboy Stadium?!! So, why would HBO, the Boxing Commission and promoter Bob Arum want anyone but Pac to win??.I’m have concerns about a decision in this fight.. If it goes to the scorecards, and it is a close fight, there is no doubt in my mind that the decision will go to Arum’s favorite ($$$Pacquiao$$$). Mayweather-Pacquiao fight might not happen if he loses to Cotto.

    Enough of my Conspiracy theory!!

My thoughts on the fighting on Saturday…

85% or more of the predictions a I have seen end up with PacMan winning by KO or TKO.. Definitely don’t see Pacquiao win by KO. Cotto is strong, has a great chin, conditioning and discipline. He has been tested by real welterweight fighters. I believe if Pac stand in front of Cotto and try to trade he is the one that’s going to be kissing the canvas. But Pacquiao has to be smarter than that, he know he has the speed to his advantage. I see him do the “hit and run” keeping his distance. For every 1 hit of Cotto he should land 3. He just better be careful that 1 hit from Cotto is not enough to put him on his a$$.

I am a Fan of both boxers and have a great deal of respect for them. I admire there quest to be the best by fighting the best. But on Saturday I will be definitely backing my homeboy Cotto.

If my theory above is correct and taking in to account the speed Pac possess. He will win by decision.

But if he trades punch for punch and lets Cotto adjust to his speed.. I take Cotto to upset the odds.

All I hope for is a good fight and for one of them to win very decisively.

i pity you so much, perez…wow!what a joke and a loser you are.all that hate in your heart…like rust gnawing away at your soul..and does this man you hate so much, this pacquiao, does he even know you exist?…oh my,don’t you have a life?…i really pity you…you poor, poor man…but at least you make people laugh with your stupid views…and making me smile too, coz’,i may not know you,but like most people here, have a fair idea of your intelligence level..or lack of it…be my guest, delete this message….peace from italia.

  • skell says:

    George Foreman is correct.
Cotto fought Clottey and Mosley to points decision wins. Pacquiao could not beat either Clottey or Mosley. Pacquiao is clearly out of his league this time.

please STOP COMMENTING on MANUEL PEREZ ARTICLES.. this is only the way FOR HIM to BECAME A FAMOUS OPINIONIST, so rather than giving a comment of his ONEWAY NON-SENSE ARTICLES, just leave him alone, ’cause for sure he’s happy having many COMMENTS ON him.

  • danny says:

wrong pick. like when he picked himself against ali.

  • nepster says:

Good one Manuela – but you forgot to cite from the ESPN article you listed this off that Mike Tyson, B-Hop, Calzaghe, Bad Chad Dawson, and Hector Camacho all picked Pac to win.

  • Franco says:

Manuel Perez and Liam Santiago says they will stop writing if Pacquiao wins. Sure! There are a lot of pseudonyms they can use once these two are wrong again for the nth time. Try ElManu Zeepr or Mali O. Against. Mali is a Tagalog word.

    YOU ARE ONE BORING WRITER

  • KO2 says:

    perez,your an idiot

  • kinjo73 says:

it is not surprising why foreman pick cotto to win, because they are both baldy man hehehe!!!

  • kinjo73 says:

i think cotto is a “bakla”.have you watch how brian perez (your sister) and cotto look at each other on episode 3 of 24/7?that is why it is obvious that cotto go for his opponents ball when she i mean he is in trouble.he likes balls…

  • OrigBatangueño says:

Pacnuthuggers are still drunk with Pac’s victories over Dela Hoya, Hatton and Diaz. They chose to bury the JMM fights in the back of their minds. If JMM rocked and out-boxed Pac, imagine what Cotto will do to Manny.
Here’s what the Paccrotchlickers will say after the fight, “Well, we still love Manny despite his devastating loss. Maybe the flood affected his training.” LOL.
To Team J&J: Cotto will send Manny to hospital? Yeah, if Manny is lucky. I am thinking Cotto will send Manny to his grave. LMAO.
Nov 14 is a dark, dark, depressing day, Pacmaniancs. Pray the day will never come.

  • Team J&J says:

REGARDLESS OF WHAT BOTH FIGHTERS HAVE DONE IN THE PAST I DONT SEE HOW CAN YOU EVEN CAN COMPARE THIS GUYS. COTTO IS BY FAR THE BETTER FIGHTER, SKILLWISE JUST MUCH BETTER. PAC FANS AND SOME EXPERTS WILL BE IN SHOCK WHEN THEY SEE HOW EASY COTTO WILL DOMINATED HIM ALL NITE. TO ME THIS IS NOT A FAIR FIGHT, COTTO MAY EVEN SENT HIM TO THE HOSPITAL.

  • Team J&J says:

    To Manny and Kingalex:

Read and Learn, Let me inform you guys that there is a big different between getting hit and getting hurt. Judah hit cotto good but never hurt him, when you saw that he was hurt? never. Mosley hit him good but when you saw him hurt? never. Torres was the only one to hurt him a little bit and still was not enough. About the margarito fight, well we all know what happend there. Cotto was giving him a lesson and when margo hit him in the nose when loaded gloves stop his breath, But never hurt him either, he never shake him. Listen Cotto is superior than pac in every category and you will see that nov14.

  • clive Gordon says:

    another useless article

  • kingalex says:

MANNY, I like your comment that Cotto gets hurt early because is absolutely true. How is Cotto more elusive when his defense allowed 222 by Clottey(35 more than Margarito) who is a slow paced fighter because of his foot movement. So please, whoever picks Cotto better tell is because of his power because if you tell that it’s going to be for his defense they are going to be dead wrong. A lot of people went against Pacquiao because of the power of his previous opponents but when they lost they were dead men(DLH 4 sure, Hatton wasn’t the same but he lost in his weight give Pacman credit please). What if Cotto losses by KO, is he a dead man like the other two??

  • Al says:

How does anyone know how defensively-minded Cotto is since Clotty? He hasn’t fought anyone since then! What is Foreman basing this on?

If Cotto is indeed more defensive, how good will he be against such a powerful, offensive opponent? If his defensive plans go awry early on, he will probably revert back to his old style of fighting … or dirty tactics …

  • trevez17 says:

Your NOT Pacquiao fans at all…where were you before the De La Hoya and Hatton fights?? GLORY FANS I SAY.

It’ll be close on Saturday it can go either way..but even if Pacquiao does win this fight, he will not beat Mayweather I can guarantee it, Mayweather is a natural talent and has immense boxing skills, he’s by far the best boxer in the world. Whoever says he isn’t then you don’t know what a skilled boxer is. Fact

  • wayner says:

was i the only one seeing manny get schooled in the sparring session?? on hbo/cotto/pacquiao24/7??? and by a much older slower castillo?// roach doesn’t look 2 happy? with manny/?

  • Manuel Perez says:

I will stop writing (just like Liam Santiago) if Pacquiao beats Cotto.

  • Manny Pacaquio says:

After I beat cotto, perez im coming for your mamma.

  • Dez says:

Manuel, You’re really good at your style. Everytime you write something, you invite a lot of comments mostly from Pacquiao fans. I understand now why you write against Pacquiao. Otherwise, no one will comment and you’ll just be one of the many uninteresting writers no one will comment to.
I’m sure that, actually, you’re a Pacquiao fan too, enjoying Pacquiao fans’ comments. Got you bulls-eye, didn’t I?
