I would have to agree. You have provided the numbers and they don’t lie. Lets face it. Most people don’t like Mayweather because of his mouth and arrogance. If he would shut-up and stop being so flashy people might accept and respect him more. PBF is a young dude trying to play the hip hop gansta roll. Its not him. He is not what he is trying to make us believe he is. He talks trash before and after a fight. I have never seen him taunting or disrespecting another fighter in the ring. He has never reverted to dirty tactics. He is a clean fighter. He actually needs to start working on his images first and then his legacy.

Jorge Lugo: You say Floyd is over rated because he hasn’t “really” hurt his opponents? The sport is called boxing…the art of hitting without being hit. It’s not MMA, you want blood and knockouts 24/7, watch MMA…Maybe you could write about the most over rated MMA fighter. Floyd is the truth. When he beats Pacquaio I wonder what you would say then…Pacquiao wasn’t really hurt?!! That’s like watching a baseball no hitter and saying the winning pitcher is over rated because he didn’t strike everyone out….A win is a win.

And if Mosley doesn’t stop the fight in the 10th round because of a wet corner when he hit Cotto with a huge right hand, the story would have been other. And Mosley landed 248 punches(also Cotto but that shows his defensive woes are from way long ago), then Margarito landed 187 punches and gave him the beating of his life(prior to Pacman) in which he may have cheated but Cotto also bring the wrong gameplan for that fight(how can you run away when you don’t have the stamina to do it for a whole night??? and also Margarito have been defeated without running from him, just ask Paul Williams and Daniel Santos to mention a pair. Then he won ANOTHER VACANT TITLE from MICHAEL JENNINGS, he fought Clottey and lost 114-113 in my card(Clottey landed 222 punches(+43) and also he did it without outthrowing(almost 100 less thrown punches so he was very accurate). And you know the rest, so Jorge Lugo you can write now why Cotto is overrated.

To keep proving Cotto was overrated all along, two fights after Corley he faced Ricardo Torres(an unbeaten without any title fights experience) and that man exposed Cotto’s defense again, sending him down in that night, even though he lost, he showed the world Cotto wasn’t invincible. Two fights after that one, Paulie Malignaggi(another unknown) fell down in the 2nd and made it thru the 12th(something unexpected) losing on one card 155-112. Then he went up to 147 to face Carlos Quintana(another unknown at that time who came of beating the HBO prospect Joel Julio) for another vacant title, and obviusly he won. Then he faced Judah(6-3, 1 NC in his last 10 fights at that time) becoming his first real test by the experts(JUNE 2007 HELLO, THAT WAS ALMOST YESTERDAY) and he gave Judah a beating, an overrated beating because the stats shown that Judah also wasn’t the same, and he never was a 147 bs. fighter. His first real win of his pro career came 2 years ago against Mosley so please, DON’T TELL ME THAT COTTO IS NOT OVERRATED.

Well Jose, Miguel Cotto’s first important fight came against who??? Carlos Maussa and then Victoriano Sosa(a guy who was known because he fought PBF so well). In his 20th fight he got tested by a 38-6 Lovemore N’ Dou at that time, an unknown who tired Cotto down the strecht and make him look bad in the final rounds. He won his first title against Kelson Pinto(a real title) and the title was vacant. Two fight after he faced De Marcus Corley(losing 2 of his 3 previous fights to Judah and PBF) who obviously wasn’t on top of his game an Corley had Cotto in the 3rd round but he simply doesn’t knew how to finish the fight, Cotto got saved of his first career loss in Feb. 2005.

Mayweather is strictly business. Unfortunately thats what boxing is about these days. Fighting who you want him to fight doesn’t always make money sense for the fighter. Mayweather takes heat because he brings it on himself by contantly talking about money and that he is a businessman. Frankly I’m tired of hearing it as well. Boxing fans want to see fights, boxers want to see dollars. There’s lots of cherry picking going on. I have no doubt that Mayweather can beat Mosely, Cotto, Pacman, Burto, Clotley and Margarito. He better think twice before entering the ring with Paul Williams but it would be a fight that he could win if he did what Leonard did with Hearns. Lots of what ifs. I’m ready to see what’s going to happen in the coming months. Now Paul Williams wants a piece of Pacman. Pacman and Mayweather are the cash cows now.

That’s stupid. How can you win and not fight? Give me a break. You have to score points to win. If you are running and covering up you are not scoring points. You do know that don’t you? Scores are not based on whos bleeding the most or who looks the freshest. You have to either knock someone out or make them quit or win on points. You can’t do either by running and covering up. If you want blood and gore go watch a pitbull fight or something.

Jorge, Most articles are a matter of opinion. Not everyone will see things your way. I for one mostly agree with you. Results don’t lie. Until the fight actually happens we will all analyze the “how come’s” and “what if’s”. in my eyes, Pacquiao’s style is the most entertaining. He is a boxer brawler with a heavy punch. Maybe not a “1 hit quiter” but surely a “combo knocker outer” Watching Mayweather is like having a lot of “fore play” with out a major “O”. again, I wont take away his talent. He is a master of his style, the best! what he is not is a spectacular, breathtaking, sensational fighter. Manny is all that and more. I don’t care if he has losses on his record. He is unbelievable. Even if he loses to Mayweather(most likely on points) he will still be a more breathtaking, sensational and spectacular phenom in the boxing world than Mayweather could ever be. I will hand it to Floyd. He has mastered a “cover up” counter punching style that is the BEST at Not getting hit. It is tailor made for anyone who comes at him. boxers open up to try and land a head shot on floyd and he just exploits the openings. That’s the way he fights. Nothing dramatic, just precision. From what I see. Floyd’s only openning where he gets hit is from straight lefts
from a southpaw (good for Manny) We saw that from the Zab fight. And if Zab didn’t try to take his head off everytime early in the fight, he could have peppered Mayweathers face all night. But that would have made for a boring fight. Zab tired out and Floyd got a second wind. Zab exerted him self at too high of a pace in the beginning, things might have been different if there was no drama stopping the fight late allowing for Floyd to recover. Just before all the drama, they were both on the same level as far as energy. but because Zab had exerted so much early, when time allowed for recovery Floyd was the one to benefit. as an athlete it was easy for me to see who was going to have more energy after all the ruckus. a rematch would have been easy for Zab… by the way I hate zab just as much as I do Floyd. I just saw it the way it was.
Hate is a strong word I am sorry, but at the same time I will give credit where credit is due.
Floyd surely is great at what HE does.
But he is overrated if you think he is THE BEST.
top 10 easily, of all time? not so sure, very arguable and debateable.
NEVER a P4P Champ, not with that style.
I know, create a “duck’ncover-run’nhide scardy cat” championship belt… FLOYD WOULD OWN THAT ONE! no one would come close! THE BEST OF ALL TIME FOR SURE!
taking nothing away from him at all.
hope the fight happens. the only way floyd will win is to not fight. He knows that.

Jorge, i just read this again (for a laugh)and as an amateur writer like yourself this makes me feel so much better about my articles. You have poor writing skills and even poorer boxing knowlege.

You are the typical contemporary boxing fan with no appreciated for the history of the sport and the essence of its existence.

If you want to watch constant action go watch MMMA, you’re a fan of the wrong sport if you don’t appreciate Mayweather’s style.

Great point! They have put Manny on a pedistal that’s not so sturdy. Manny beat some great Mexican fighters that had already beat the heck out of each other as Floyd said. Then he beat ODLH, Hatton and Cotto. All of them coming off loses (excluding ODLH) that actually brought them down to earth. I don’t think they recovered from that mentally. The same thing most likely will happen to Mayweather after his first lost but it depends on the fighter. When you lose you have to immediately avenge your lost in a spectacular fashion like Paul Williams did against Quintana. That’s the only way to erase the ghost of defeat. Cotto didn’t get that opportunity nor did Ricky Hatton. I am one that thought Cotto could handle handle Pacman even though the ghost of Margarito still was in the back of his mind. Pacman suprised me being able to take Cotto’s punches. Boxing is an art. You have punchers and boxers. Regardless it is the art of hitting your opponent without being hit. It’s about scoring points using skill. This is what Mayweather does. Boxing is not a game of checkers-its a game of chess. I for one like to see boxers use skill as oppose to brute force. There is one exception and that was Mike Tyson. Tyson had skills as well as brute power. I do like Pacman because he reminds me a little of one of my all time favorites–Roberto Duran. I think if you want to know how the fight between Mayweather and Pacman will turn-out watch Sugar Ray Leonard vs Duran and you have it right there.

So why is manny pacquiao the p4p after his last 3 fights then ?… if mayweather isn’t 2p4p… Lets take a look at pacquiao’s last 3 fights, Delahoya,Hatton,Cotto.. Im sure someone else beat two of them when they where in much better prime… Mayweather his name is. I’m not sayin pacquiao aint the pound for pound.. but mayweather is not overrated, you cant be after them fights and still not be beaten.

One last thing. Most of you are saying Mayweather is ducking fighters like Paul Williams etc. I don’t see ODLH, Cotto, Margarito, Berto, Clottley, Mosely or Pacman calling him out either. Overrated? Please. He just makes it look so easy. Everybody makes these statements about his size which is BS. Floyd Mayweather is not very big. When he and Marquez was side by side he may have had an inch on him. When Cotto and Pacman stood side by side Pacman actually looked bigger (Maybe it was just his head). So give me a break with all this size BS. When Mayweather beats Pacman there will be will be tons of excuses. That’s normal for haters. I will be the first to come on here and admit I was wrong if Pacman beats PBF. There will be no excuses from me. Haters do the same!!!
