David Haye – Needs to improve to mix with the Klitschkos!
By Stuart Cross: Ok so there has been a lot of rubbish written since David Haye dispatched Nikolay Valuev, a lot of people in the forums writing all sorts. So here is how I see it.
I think Haye deserved to win the fight. I mean what did Valuev do, pumped out his jab and missed all night, same as he always does, is that really a heavyweight champion? No, it’s not, and for me he’s a spoiler and just whats bad about the heavy weights right now.
Secondly He needs to control his wild “Hayemakers”. Haye clearly has a lot of power, I mean no one has rocked Valuev before. However the result could have been better had Haye finished him off with some clean punches. If you watched the fight, when Haye followed up on Valuev after he wobbled him in the 12th, his wild overhand rights were blocked by Valuev. Had haye gone in for the kill with a snappy straight left right combo, I feel he could have achieved the impossible and put Valuev on the deck. If Haye can improve both these, he could be a formidable fighter.
So now we hope to get some real excitement in the Heavy weight division. Haye V the Klitschko’s! Can he beat them. Well, Vitali, im not so sure, he can box well, punch well and take a hit, so maybe he will best be avoided for now, but we know Haye wants drama so we could see this fight first. From a boxing fan point of view I feel the best bet for Haye, if he does decide to fight one fo them immediately after Ruiz, is Wladimir. Wlad is by far the weaker I feel of the two brothers. He’s been KO’d 3 times already in his career and so has in my eyes a suspect chin, he hates to stand and fight. What happens next, im sure we’ll all find out in the next 6 months.
Lets just be happy that we finally have someone that will come out and make the Ukrainians fight for there title, not an overweight poor excuse of a heavyweight, Someone who is in tip top physical shape, and can throw that knockout punch. We may finally be in for some decent heavyweight battles!

Come on now Maccarnelli is no Klitschko brother despite how much you may dislike them.
Valuev wont be his hardest fight at all. Yes he is awkward, but as a skilled fighter he is terrible!!! Wlad, and more to the point Vitali are by far better boxers, far more powerful, and they will find there target a lot more often.
Haye has a chance to beat both, but needs to be at his absolute best to take them on.
I think people are looking at how he fought Valuev and expect thats how hes guna go around fighting every heavyweight he meets.
What he showed us, His power is a real weapon at this weight. he can be real discaplined when he wants to be and hes still fast even with the extra stone hes put on.
What he didnt show us, that his chin is up to the job, thats hes got the stamina to go 12 gruelling rounds.
you cant go sayin he needs this and that cuz of what he did against Valuev, he will NEVER fight like that again.
If you wana make judgements on that performance id say hes guna make short work of Ruiz, and has a better chance against the Klitchkos than i previously thought. Its still a hell of a task though cuz they are by a long way the best 2 boxers in the division aswell as being akwardly tall with huge reach.
i don’t think your right about his defense, go back and watch the macerinelli fight, he couldn’t get close to haye with his jab and his is double the speed of the wlads or vitalis
i also really don’t think either of them are gonna trouble haye in the slightest valuev is gonna be his closest fight he ever has at heavyweight and thats cos of size
haye needs to get better ?? yea ok…but chris o. was the man…its your story…stick to it !!
HAYE IS GOOD ENUFF 2 HOLD HIS OWN WITH ANY HW IN THE WORLD TODAY HE HAS VERY UNDERATED SKILLS PEOPLE THINK HES A BRALER WITCH IS WHAT HE CHOSES 2 DO 9 TIME OUT OF 10 I THINK IT WONT BE EASY 4 VITALI OR WALD 2 OUT BOX HIM HE’S ALOT FASTER THAN BOTH OF THEM BUT THEY GOT GOOD BOXING BRAINS ‘SO DOSE HAYE SO I DONT THINK YOU RIGHT OFF
IM NOT I THINK HE’S HERE 2 STAY!!!
i dont think he needs to really improve. he is naturaly talented will a killer right and only faught like that because valuev was the size of a cathedrall
agreed there has been a hell of a lot of rubbish in the forums. just wish haye KO’d him so the yanks didnt have an argument.lol im not sure if he could out box the either brother. i think his best bet against both would be to keep on the move and try and throw pot shot. he might shake them then go in for the kill. for me haye has flashes of brilliance then mostly looks beatable.
I think Wlad will be an easy fight for haye. Wlad panicks and flaps when fighters get inside his jab.
I agree with you that Haye has to improve his defense when he comes up against the Klitscho’s, especially Wladimir with his great jab. As for the swinging shots, Haye has always done this hasnt he. You only ever see him do it when he has his opponent in big trouble, yes he gets kinda wreckless, but nine times out of ten he is successful with it.
Finally, I disagree when you or anyone else says Wladimir has a suspect chin. Don’t get me wrong, im not saying he has the best in chin in the world, and being ko’d three times is never good on any boxers resume. But, this is the Heavyweight division, they are all big guys with big punching power. Any Heavyweight in the world can knock another heavy down in my opinion, if they catch them with the right punch. It’s just some avoid the big punches better, as has Wladimir over the past couple of years.
I believe Haye can beat Wladimir, but not to sure about Vitali.
Fair and balanced argument. Good article. Gilfoid could really learn from this, though to be fair I think it’s took late for him.
