Cotto the Brave, Pacquiao the Brilliant

By Charles Barrett: With bravery above and beyond the call of duty Miguel Cotto some how made it to the 12th rd, only to be stopped 55 sec’s later. In truth it had stopped being competitive from the 6th rd, but even though the battle was lost the warrior refused to concede defeat.

Boxing can be the cruelest of sports and many had questioned the heart of Cotto after the Margarito surrender.

The Peurto Rican had something to prove, not to the fans, not to his trainers but to himself.

cotto-pac444On this night the fighter would go out on his shield.

The supreme fighting machine that is Manny Pacquiao seems to get better and better.

Not just physically gifted but technically and mentally brilliant. He said to his opponent you cannot out speed me but more crucially he said you cannot hurt me but I can hurt you, psychologically for Cotto that realization would have been crushing.

As the rounds flew by, the face of Cotto began to change shape the chiseled features were being lost behind a mask of welts, swellings and blood.

By the 10th rd it was as only a mater of time, but the pocket dynamo took his foot off the gas, Cotto was in full retreat but was still defiant.

As the bell rang for the 12th we were just hopping Cotto could see things through to the end, but ref Kenny Bayless had seen enough after Cotto had shipped another big left hand he jumped between the fighters and waved it off,

In truth Cotto could have probably carried on but that was not the point, the third man is there to protect the fighter whether it’s the 1st or the last round.

So as one star fades and another grows even brighter, and somewhere across the wide expanses of America, another fighter who’s yet to taste defeat looks on, his name Floyd Mayweather.

Does anyone think Pac can beat Paul Williams? Shane Mosley? I think he should fight them to be the best, but would lose both. Please don’t talk about the weight either, because Shane woulda came down to 140 even, but Pacquiao camp ducked. Paul Williams stayed that he would fight any welter.

    Simple and Perfect

To Mario and Manny, if you really got balls, how much did you it cost you at the betting? If you really believe that Manny’s no good, you should have bet the house, the wife and the dog included. Not the dog, may have some use if you lost the wife.

  • ong says:

these two idiots (LIAM and MANUEL)are similar to these MARIO and MANNY… are they shadowing their BAD MANNER in this site… LET SATAN DOOMS YOUR SOULS… A$$HOLE!!!

  • wanderer says:

Hey don’t ask for Manuel Perez or Liam Santiago to get axed.

We won’t have anyone to laugh at after every pacman fight.

and it’s not nice to booh against any Cotto fan since just like us, we are just a pacman fan. Besides, Cotto held his ground.

  • iceman says:

Hey Manny is that your name. You should be ashamed carrying that name because you’re the only manny that is a loser. You should change your name to something else maybe ButtHole or Manuella Perez because he sounded like you. We know a Manny PACMAN that is on top of his game – 7 World Titlist in 7 weight division, Nike Star and humble down to earth guy. Sure not a loser there.

  • Manny says:

Mario you are Soooo correct.. Pacquiao is worst than mayweather because he and the cacaroach pick fighters who have faced traumatic loses in the ring or are at the end of their careers because of these brutal loses.. I personally think he is not that great and mayweather whom i dont care for will stomp him like a cacaroach

  • Bigbasher says:

Stop calling Mayweather a chicken . He’s a Duck! Ha ha ha

  • Freddie says:

he said he´ll never write again if Manny defeats Miguel, we´ll see…

  • kingalex says:

Mario forget about excuses, if you picked Cotto is not my problem because a lot of people including myself told you what it was going to happen. stephen a, Manny is absolutely in other league for Cotto, but Cotto’s supporters never understood that.

  • j says:

My respects to manny he surely is the p4p king he surprised me big time now bring on mayweather.

  • Manny says:

Mario is Manuel Perez….the peckerhead’s at it again. Damn you if you start writing again!

  • preleste says:

No, Cotto’s star has not faded. It just got eclipsed by pacquiao’s star just the same to those manny had beaten. It just so happened they ran into the wrong opponent in the person of pacquiao!

  • Kheltix says:

Mario stop throwing your craps in every article on this site.. its over man, who do you want pac to fight anyway? he’s fighting all the best in the business, all the champs! i just cant stand guys like you who suddenly degrading those fighters.. stop making excuses for them, they know what happened and they know how great pac man is.

  • Belden says:

One thing manny proved that haters believe is not true even possibly by you Mairo is that he has no Chin. I dont care if you think cotto is the same fighter or not even looking at post margarito fights he still packs a punch. Manny absorbed them all and not even fazed. If cotto ven in pre margarito cant hurt pacquiao in welterweight then few can for sure. Worst is he seem to even enjoy it. He has power and very good chin and proved it for the division. What more do we need to make him a true welterweight?

  • Mario says:

No matter how much cotto trains he will never be the same fighter. Its a mental problem more than anything and like I said only he knows how he feels. His face now gets swollen and cut like never before of course his not gonna be able to see where the punches are going.I believe its best that cotto just retireds. Manny is a good fighter but I still not believe his the greatest He just chooses his fights correctly and thats my opinion. Cottos face its so fragil now look how he bleeds before margarito when would you ever see cottos face like that its unexplainable.

  • Timberland says:

Excuses excuses. When will it end?

Tired of reading people justify how Pacquiao’s win is never worth it.

  • Mario says:

Cotto hasn’t been the same fighter since the margarito fight. Its sad to see someone do that to someone. If manny would of fought the older cotto manny would of not had a chance i don’t care what anyone says. Manny Is not a great fighter his just anothe mayweather that knows how to pick his fights. fighting a beat down miguel cotto is not very copetitive. First a burnt out oscar then a c average hatton and now a mental and physical hurt cotto due to a cheater margarito. Its sad to see a great fighter go through so much pain only he knows how he truly feels.

  • Charlie Barrett says:

    Thanks Anthony,
Lets hope we dont have to wait to long for
    Pacquiao v Matweather

  • Marvin Hagler says:

Can’t wait for Manuel Perez’s article. . am sure its gonna be so funny. . it’ll make my day. . The moron is going to come up with such funny excuses that it will make him a brilliant comedian . . can’t wait. Hope he gets the axe though. . not worthy to be writing in this website.

  • AnthonyW says:

Top article. Easily the best ive read in the aftermath of last nights bout.

  • stephen a says:

cotto has heart for sure, but manny is in a league of his own, and at the end of the day he lasted longer than de la hoya and hatton put together. if he beats margarito in a must have rematch, he could prob go for another world title
