I wasn't surprise at all from what happened because a)Obviously I picked Haye to win. b)John Ruiz got robbed against Valuev and Chagaev also beat Valuev. c)Haye was going to be blazing fast to that slow man, how in the world I would have gone with Valuev when all favored Haye??. Common guys, it's not a thing of being giant and/or powerful, it's a thing of being the better and smarter out there. If you picked Cotto because of his power and size you will lose your money. I didnt think Haye could cope with the size of Valuev, get caught in the corners and on the ropes and generally be his usual wild self. Yet he was discaplined to the letter, showed good movement and footwork and DID show that he has the power at this level. Haye wont face somebody that slow again, but then he wont face anybody that big again. Im sure hed of attacked more had he not had the injury too, Haye will be a much harder worker against any other opponant. Hes still got stuff to prove but i think hes certainly made the statement that hes a force at this weight and would be a challenge for a Klitchko or other top contender after all. Both of us have previously boxed amateur and watch a lot of boxing. So when it came to the final bell, we were both unconvinced he did enough, even though the whole pub was going crazy. That was until some random pubgoer came up to us and screamed "David slayed the Beast." It was comical at first, but two seconds later the last judges score was read out. Giving up seven stone, almost a foot, damaging his hand AND rocking Valuev badly in the twelth. This against a guy who has never been visibly hurt and had only lost once in 50 previous fights. That to me is actually pretty awesome. I'd be worried about Haye fighting Vitali though, whom I think would have easily stopped Valuev. On a slightly unhappier note, I backed a Valuev win and lost £50 quid last night. Oh well. I think I must be about the only person who was actually very impressed by Haye last night.
