Abraham vs. Dirrell: Andre should beat Arthur

dirrell3423By Dennis Broadhurst: When the talented yet inexperienced Andre Dirrell faces Arthur Abraham I believe that he should beat him. In his first fight of the Super Six tournament. Dirrell lost a decision to solid Englishman Carl Froch on October 17th. In that fight it looked like Dirrell was scared of the powerful Froch and was certainly fighting on nervous energy. The fight proved to him that you cannot take a champion’s title by dancing around the ring all night, especially in their home town.

I know I once wrote an article saying that Dirrell schooled Froch but that was stupid and was not well thought. Although Dirrell exposed Froch in a way by showing us that he cannot move, but Froch also exposed Dirrell in a way by showing that he has ants in his pants when facing power. In Abraham’s first fight of the tournament, he destroyed Jermain Taylor with one punch in the twelfth round which was an impressive knockout having him leading in the tournament.

This win must be credited but if we think about it, Taylor was damaged goods after losing three of his previous four fights, two by knockout and has never had a solid chin or great stamina. Abraham fights behind a very high guard and often stands there just letting punches hit his guard and this lets him save enough energy to put loads of power behind every punch which will knockout most fighters if he catches them clean.

So I think that Dirrell should not try running too much from Abraham. I think he should move well, not expand to much energy hitting Abraham’s guard and use his good skill to avoid the wild shots of Abraham. We have seen that Dirrell has good power as he hurt the iron-jawed Carl Froch in his last fight and he certainly has good speed but in this fight he must fight like a man from the start instead of simply running for 10 rounds and then fighting two at the end.

If Dirrell moves too much then he will expand too much energy and Abraham who will just slowly plod forward with a tight guard will eventually catch him with a great shot and knock him out. Dirrell must come out and start strong and hit Abraham with hard shots from the start. If he does this then I see him winning a decision or if he fights extremely hard maybe a stoppage in the late rounds.

There is always the chance that “King” Arthur with his tight guard will just plod forward and Dirrell will try too hard to get to his head and won’t know what to do. This I think would result in Dirrell getting frustrated and knocked out by Abraham. Despite knowing that the fight could go either way. I am making a prediction that Dirrell will beat Abraham simply because of superior skill.

Saying this I shall not say it will be too easy as Abraham is a solid fighter and one must always be cautious when fighting someone of such power but I just think that Dirrell will be too skillful and will be wanting to prove his critics wrong after the Froch fight.

Arthur is just too clever and strong for Dirrell. I feel Dirrell will get knocked out in the mid to late rounds. Dirrells only chance of winning this fight is if he can some how manage to stay on his feet for 12 rounds and it goes to the cards. Then he will probably get the decision. I think this fight will be similar to the Edison Miranda fight. Dirrell will get “counter banged” badly by Arthur. I have been to nearly all of AA’s fights as I live in Germany and the Taylor fight was fantastic. Not just because Arthur won but because of there different styles. I have great respect for Jermain Taylor. Taylor boxed very very well and was still down on the cards at the time of the KO. Arthur picks his shots extremely well and is very patient. Jermain Taylor is a very talented boxer and it is sad that he is no longer in the tournament. Arthur Abraham is a very hard, strong and clever boxer with a tremendous will to win and he has the best chance to win this tournament.

King Arthur will KO the s*** out of Andre “the squirrel” Dirrell.
    who’s next for the king?

  • Rob says:

I like both Dirrel and Arthur Abraham..
but I think Arthur Abraham will win late rounds..
does anyone know when exactly the fight will happen?
    thanks in advance

It’s seems that going toe-to-toe with Abraham would be a bad move on Dirrell’s part but if he can get in and back out quickly he might be able to have aa pretty battered by the final three or four rounds. I think in the final rounds of the Froch fight we saw what Dirrell is capable of when he puts some aggression behind his natural talent and speed/quickness, hopefully he learns and matures throughout the tourney and we can see some more of that.

May I suggest that just as you have acknowledged your error in originally stating that Dirrell took Froch to school, you have failed to acknowledge Abraham’s experience advantage, ferocious will and surprising hand speed both from the outside and inside. His quick hand speed against Taylor and Miranda illustrate why his knockouts come so abruptly. If Dirrell goes toe-to-toe and/or fights too much of an inside fight, he will be knocked out!

Arthur Abraham denied the rummor spread by boxingnews24 about not fighting Dirrell. boxingnews24 really needs to be called GOSSIPNEWS24

King Arthur Abraham’s camp have dismissed rumors suggesting that the boxing champ’s upcoming bout was in jeopardy due to his having flu.

SHAME ON THOSE WHO EXERCISE CENSORSHIP. boxingnews24 must be called gossipnews24, and Dennis B shuld bew awarded the gossip columnist of the year.

  • Muzza says:

Dirrells got Talent he just needs to put some balls behind it if he wants to be successful in this tournament. He can win this fight probably on points if he mans up. AA will bring balls a plenty to this one on the other hand.

good article, well written…but dirrell felt froch’s power for sure and didnt like it, but boy can he box,i just hope dirrell does more in this fight and uses all the talent he has and he will make aa look silly

  • Hayemaker says:

Excellent article – good work, Sir! However, I think that the power of King Arthur will still shine through.

  • perry says:

Abraham will knock the head off his shoulders.
Dirrell is a coward who will run like a chicken.
He will be caught in round five ,the way abraham rocked taylor.
The americans are in the winning mood after the ward fight, but the happy day’s won’t last long.

  • simon19287 says:

Although i had Carl Froch winning by 1 round agaisnt Dirrel i was very impressed by the american he showed great hand speed and foot speed and if the fight was in america it may have gone Andre’s way, i can really see Dirrel winning a wide desion agaisnt the King and possible even a shut out ?

  • Thomas-yorkboxer says:

brilliant read mate agree with you totaly

  • tony says:

first of all, arthur abraham has an iron chin. he is never going to get hurt seriously in this fight. plus dirrell doesn’t have power. so to think AA could lose to dirrell seems funny to me. Anre dirrell doesnt even have a chance. watch and u will see.

  • Andrew Evans says:

I don’t think you can say if, because maybe if Dirrel had been braver he might have got knocked out. Froch said he felt very fragile on the inside. Sounds like he gave him a medical.

  • JD says:

AA will [probably] respond to increased aggression from Dirrell by increasing his output. When he fought Taylor he was ahead on all the cards at the time of the stoppage, and was fighting like he knew it. To me it seems like just a matter of time before AA closes the gap and starts to do damage, at which time Dirrell will either start to run, again, or stand his ground and get KO’ed.

  • Ukansodoff says:

Dirrell was schooling Froch big time, until Frochs power spooked him. He never got back to his game plan for the rest of the fight.

If he didnt like Frochs power he aint guna like Abrahams much either. Froch couldnt cope with the slickness and speed of Taylor and Dirrell, weve already seen that Abraham can cope with it no problem. And i know Taylor grinds to a halt but not in the earlier rounds.

Dirrell is guna have to accept hes guna get hit and its guna hurt and hes gotta keep going.

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

abraham has to much experience and dirrel has to little, abraham should win this one.

  • Peter(Hitman Fan) says:

Raw, i agree with you their Jermain wore himself out, it’s just what Arthur wants, and a clever boxer who can take a punch will beat him easy.

  • raw says:

If you can’t box and move, why did Haye win? Haye sprinted around that ring!!! He did far less to Valuev than Dirrell did to Froch. I thought Dirrell won the fight but could’ve lived with a draw. If anyone fights Abraham with intelligence, he can be defeated. Punching at the back of his gloves for 6+ rounds (Taylor) will definitely tire you out and set you up for defeat!

  • Peter(Hitman Fan) says:

Good article, it will be a hard fight for both of them, and i’m looking forward to it, Abraham leaves himself very open when he opens up, but no one has the guts to fire back.

  • rick says:

really good article, makes a nice change after that rubbish scott puts out..

totally agree dirrel would have won the froch fight if he wasnt running/holding.. i was there & his tactics spoilt the night. but man hes talented..

i think abraham os there 4the taking in the supersix… good chin, powerfull but no boxer..

  • Anonymous says:

nice article no shame in addmitting when your wrong although i think abraham will win maybe i might b wrong

  • Oli says:

dirrell stunk the place out against froch. Stupid thing is that if he had stood toe to toe more then he would have won
