Pacquiao Frozen In Time?

By Derrick Villanueva: Despite continuous evidence of the contrary, Manuel Perez still believes that Manny Pacquiao’s skills are stuck where they were during his first fight with Erik Morales. This is in reference to his recent article entitled Pacquiao-Cotto: Manny Needs to Focus on Miguel, not Mayweather where he states:
“Pacquiao will need to be at 110% if he wants to be competitive against Cotto. I don’t think he will. I see this as a repeat of the Erik Morales vs. Pacquiao I fight.”
Really? How? In what parallel universe is it that Pacquiao is still reckless? In what parallel universe is it that Pacquiao still doesn’t know how to utilize his lead (right) hand? I don’t get his logic. In Mr. Perez’s fantasy world, Pacquiao is still the rash brawler that doesn’t know how to use his right hook. That Pacquiao, in reality, is gone.
Pacquiao nowadays is decisively 1.) Faster 2.) Stronger 3.) Has Better Balance 4.) More Tactical 5.) More Experienced that he was a few years ago. He is not invincible, by no means, as can be seen in his fight with Oscar Larios; but he’s improved leaps and bounds over the following years that to say that his performance with Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 will be the same as his performance with Morales of yesteryears will be the same is simply absurd.
Cotto is decisively stronger than Erik Morales but “El Terrible” was definitely faster, and more cunning. Cotto’s defense is not as good as Morales’. The only reason Erik Morales was dropped in their second fight was because he was too game to exchange and brawl with the Pacman. A stupid albeit fearless move that I still applaud today. If Morales had kept his composure then, he wouldn’t have been beaten to a pulp and Pacquiao would’ve won with a decision. But it would’ve made for a much less entertaining fight.
Cotto’s left hook is dangerous for sure and the Pacman has been known to still walk into punches from time to time but in the end I strongly believe that Pacquiao’s incredible hand speed will baffle and stun Cotto and win the day. Besides Freddie Roach would’ve drilled Pacquiao to the breaking point on avoiding and countering those left hooks. He too, like Pacquiao, has Not been frozen in time.
I see Pacquiao winning by early KO or Decision depending on Cotto’s condition.

Packy you can’t win 34 fights , 27 by ko only with low blows. this is crap. And remember 34 fights with the best fighters in the world. Only one thing regard on your comments: try to be obiective. That’s all. I am and i said that Pacquiao is a great fighter. But for this fight i think he has a good chance to lose. This fight will be very close you’ll see.

I agree with Reflex. If you have seen how much cement Margacheato landed on Cotto before the latter folded, and you still think Pac can hurt him you are deluded. Watch how much leather Pac landed on Hoya.
Villanueva if you realy believe a ealy knock out then you don’t know much at all about boxing Cotto has one of the strongest chins in the business

tommy in talking about Pacman’s speed, I don’t know what you were drinking while watching Pacman’s last few fights because it seems like you saw the fight in slomo. You must have missed what ODLH said about Pacman’s speed. Also when you’re 10 feet from your TV set you can see the punches coming specially if it’s a replay. It’s a different story when you’re in the ring a couple of feet from Pacman.
Teo how come you are a Cotto fan if you don’t watch his fights? Are you blinded by your love for Cotto and did’nt see the countless low blows he exectutes in different fights?
He’s not the same like say… 6-7 years ago, but Manny is the same fighter as when he fought in the Marquez rematch. Nothing has changed since then.
Cmon now. Now I know that manuel perez can’t write a good article and that he’s very bias in them. But not even roach believes manny will win by early ko. Cottos defense is way better then morales’ cotto has never been dropped like morales has. And he has fought a lot stronger and more challenging fights to prove it. Do you honestly believe that morales would have lasted to the 11th round with maragarito? Or won a split decision against clottey with a nasty cut in the beginning of the fight? Perez is constantly criticized for his one sided point of views. Don’t go down the same road. I predict cotto in 8. But it can go either way.
I understand the critic about Mr Manuel Perez and I agree but in this article the writer is doing the same in an oposite way.

And though I cannot in the slightest bit stand Manny Perez, mentioning or quoting “other writers on this site” does tend to lower the writer a bit to that level.

Nobody beats Manuel Perez’ idiocy. His brain is not Pound for pound it is ounce for ounce.
It’s true that Pacquiao has not fought anyone like Cotto but Cotto has never fought someone like Pacquiao!
Cotto has 7 fights where he was in trouble in Round 1 and all the boxers who gave him that trouble where in no way comparable to Manny’s speed and punching power and volume. Manny will never tire like those others who were winning in the beginning and then emptied their gas tanks.
In those worst beatings Cotto managed to break the momentum of the attack using his famous left hook on the balls of his opponents.

The thing is , Pac is overconfident and taking Cotto lightly. He doesn’t say it by it’s obvious in his actions.
1. Getting ready/rehearsed for a victory party in las vegas?
2. Training later than cotto and mixing up with politicians, making annoying antics with her trainer.
3. thinking mayweather while he is supposed to focus on cotto.
4. his camp is noisy talking about knockouts when in fact pac is just a bloated featherweight invading a natural welterweight.
