Cotto-Pacquiao with perspective
By Sam Singh: There’s no doubt Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter, but he is being seriously overrated from his wins over Oscar De La Hoya & Ricky Hatton. Somehow, I don’t think Stevie Forbes would’ve been as hyped up as Pacquiao if he had beaten De La Hoya in their fight.
The same goes for the win over Hatton. I give Pacquiao credit for the win but I always saw Hatton there for the taking. Apart from beating a faded Tszyu who never fought again, Hatton had a major scare at 147lbs & was on the verge of being taken out by a feather-fisted fighter in Collazo. Likewise, Mayweather who isn’t a noted puncher, also knocked Hatton out – badly. Not to mention the fact that Juan Lazcano had Ricky Hatton hurt.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Pacquiao is a great boxer and I rate him highly. But he’s there to be out-boxed and I feel Juan Manuel out-boxed him in both of their fights.
Cotto, on the other hand, is a guy who has been in with the top 147 pounders in Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, Quintana & Judah. And none of those guys were able to really hurt Cotto. With the exception of confirmed-cheater Margarito, Cotto was able to beat much bigger, stronger guys.
Look at the Mosley fight. Shane Mosley is a bigger and stronger version of Manny Pacquiao. The only difference is that Pacquiao is a southpaw who can box more on his feet. But Mosley was still unable to hurt Cotto. So I can’t see why so many feel Pacquiao will stop or KO Cotto.
Sure, Cotto looked vulnerable in his last fight but he had a very serious cut for 9 rounds. And it was against Clottey, a guy who would do very well against the likes of Mosley, Berto and Williams. In fact, Bob Arum recently said that people don’t actually realize how good Joshua Clottey is.
But at the end of the day I guess people like to talk. They say Cotto is damaged goods. They say the tattoos are a sign of mental weakness. They say the Margarito fight destroyed him. I say this: Cotto is not damaged goods. The tattoos are a sign of weakness? Cotto had his body covered in tattoos well before his recent ones. And as for Margarito, I think it’s Hands of Plaster who will never be the same again! Margarito looked shot against Mosley and took another series of hard shots. I think all of those shots from Cotto have actually caught up Margarito.
So if Cotto does beat Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto seals his greatness by beating the pound-for-pound number one who is in his prime. And for me, Cotto has a great chance. Cotto is too big, too strong, and most importantly, very smart.
So the question is this: will Manny Pacquiao be able to absorb Miguel Cotto’s lethal left-hooks to the body and head? Hall-of-fame trainer Emanuel Steward reckons Cotto has one of the best left-hooks in the history of boxing. And Arum recently said that this will be the story of the fight as to whether or not Pacquiao can take Cotto’s signature left-hook to body and head.

Let’s see what will happen…
Great article. Cotto’s been rocked at 140 but not really at 147. Manny isn’t that faster nor nearly as strong as Mosley or Judah. Cotto is surprisingly fast & throws great counter punches but we shall both fighters have their work cut out for them. I’m also proud to say these guys are calss acts & there will be no excuses on their behalfs just from obsessed fan’s who tend to lean one way & not have little to no reasoning.
I’ts pretty clear that you’re a Pac-hater..You talk a lot and act as if you’ve been in a ring before..You’re nothing but a copycat…You just overheard that Dela Hoya was weight-drained,Hatton was ill,,and now you act as if it actually came from your mouth…Have you seen Cotto fight??How ’bout Pacquiao??Let’s talk about the speed of Pacquiao??Maybe blinding coz it seems you’ve missed that part…
Nov 14th 2009 ESPN Sports Update!
Cotto remains WBO Welter Weight Chapion of the World and is the new Diamond Belt Champion!
Man i dont care how pacman ko’d Hatton! it was a lucky f*&%in punch. Kknock outs are by luck. pac just hit the “spot” and hatton just got “Caught”
Manny Pacquiao; THE NEW WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD & STILL THE BEST POUND 4 POUND KING OF ALL TIME……Manny by 9th round KO of Miguel Cotto……Aloha
jude, what do you know about boxing anyway??
you know that i domintate pinays the way that pinoys like you can’t..
for all you pinoys, enjoy it while it last because the chinese and koreans will be representing filipino boxing..
Hey, Sam Singh, you stated that Manny Pacquiao “is being seriously overrated from his wins over Oscar De La Hoya & Ricky Hatton” and that “if Cotto does beat Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto seals his greatness by beating the pound-for-pound number one who is in his prime.” So now, if the Pacman beats Cotto, are you still going to say that he is “overrated”?
It’s so convenient to say after the fights that Oscar dela Hoya was weight-drained or that Ricky Hatton was “there for the taking”. Most, including yourself, thought that ODH vs. Pacman was a mismatch in favor of ODH simply because ODH was a taller and far superior/greater fighter/boxer technician. ODH should have won at least a round. Hatton was unbeaten at 140 lbs. and stronger than Pacman. The fact is that Pacman beat them “convincingly”.
I’m no Pacman fanatic. I just give credit to whomever it is due. Some people just seem to “over-analyze” things.
if manny pcquiao wins the fight, what will be the excuses we are going to hear? cotto was dehaydrated,,cotto was overrated..silly people anti pacman..accept the fact that pacman is still the pound4pound king..
we all know the outcome of another Cotto vs. Marg rematch. itd just be a waste of Cotto’s time. after he beats Pac hes just gonna solidify everyones thoughts on him and everyone is gonna say hes THE GREATEST Welter Weight.
cotto is pushing it, he has better chances in a margo rematch. losing to pacman leads to retirement.
i’m not taking anything away from Pac he is a warrior and fighter at heart and has fought 2 awesome battles against JMM,but i think he might be pushing his luck come Nov 14.i just think that beating De La Hoya and Hatton the way he did was something Cotto, Mayweather, and Mosley couldve done. hell Quintana could have done it! i truly think that Cotto will beat Pacman convincingly. this will be the biggest test of both of their careers.
to jude, so are you saying Cotto doesnt have God on his side, people dont love Cotto in and outside of boxing? im pretty sure that Cotto’s fan base is the same or maybe even bigger than Pac’s! and all those others extra-curricular activities that pac does has nothing to do with his boxing skills
what people cant accept is the fact that a little Asian, specifically a Filipino, is dominating whites, blacks, and hispanics. Filipino! Filipino! Bebot Bebot bot bebot bebot!
Cotto is good as well as mayweather, no doubt about it. But the reason why Pacman will win? Simple. God is with him. He fights for pacman. And this is the thing that will baffle all the Pac doubters.
There are lot of best fighters. But they are only best in boxing, and nothing else. Pacman is the only one that is not only considered BEST but best in everything compared to other boxers. He’s best with his personality, attitude, etc. He is humble, kind, always cheerful, always give thanks to God, people love him inside and outside of boxing. He is a singer, actor, politician. He inspires. He gives hope. He is best in everything not only boxing. but what bout the other so called best boxers?
When Manny emerges as victorious in his fight against Cotto, you will know that God is with Manny and that God is the real secret to Manny’s victory. “For it is not by might nor by power, but by God’s Spirit”.
to PistolPete,
When pacman was knocked out in the 3rd round, he was a skinny teenager at that time! And that was ages ago. Come fight time, you will eat your words, youll see!
JMM can outboxed Manny so many times, but he can’t floor Manny. Manny floored him 4 times! So that makes it up for Manny. What people want, especially the judges and people in VEGAS, is the thrill of someone being floored. They want, action, blood, guts, humiliation, etc. This is Manny’s advantage and X factor against JMM. This is what u dont understand.
The question that I have is if Cotto will again use his patented LOW BLOW to neutralize the speed, power and capability of Pacquiao who’s for me one of the best FIGHTER of ALL TIME.
Cottos been hurt but only at 140! and when he was hurt he would come back with HEART and knock his opponent out! Cotto’s left hand will break Pac’s RIBS! all you pac fans go do some homework and get educated! Pacman got KO’d in the 3rd round of one of his fights by getting hit with a left hook to the body! hope you pac fans got your tissues handy!

pacquiao is monster
http://www.liveboxingnews.com/archives/roach:-a-knockout-victory-by-pacquiao-.html
damn this article is not good,
DAMN!!! MOST OF THE WRITERS ARE IDIOTS!!! THESE EXPERTS DDNT GIVE PACQUIAO A CHANCE AGAINST ODLH AND HATTON AND COMES UP WITH DUMB EXCUSES. DAMN!!HAHAHAHA
hit_list
The point was simple. Mosley is not a bigger and stronger version of Pacquiao. They are nothing alike. They both have speed and power but fight totally differently. That’s why I was laughing at the article. It’s obvious that the writer feels that Pacquiao is overrated and is not in the same league as Cotto. But the fact that he’s comparing Mosley to Pacquiao just proves that he already feels that Cotto is going to beat Pacquiao. The moment he compared the two as being very similar shows his prediction of the fight. That’s why I was laughing. They are not the same and the outcome of the fight won’t be the same. That was my point.
To bull:
Too much lines, bro. Where is your point about the writer (singh) judging Pac as overrated?
Before the fight, ODLH&Hatton were favored to win for their size and strength. After the fight, Singh said Pac won because ODLH and Hatton were said to be over the hill and not the same as years before.
This time a prime Cotto is expected to win with the same reason – size, power and counter punch skills.
If Pac wins, this writer will say Cotto is not the same fighter after Margarito’s loss and alreadly past him prime.
Pac is in lose-lose situation.
sorry, got cut off.
By moving on his feet, Manny will have many more angles to choose from. He will also be able to plant his feet in different positions needed to land power shots. By not moving on your feet, you are limited to the shots you can take. This is the reason why he was able to knock out Hatton so quickly. Since he’s constantly moving, he had the opportunity to land his feet the way he wanted to, twist his hips, and carry the left hand over to eventually end the fight. That’s why it makes him different from those like Marquez, PBF, and other counter punchers. They often don’t move around too much and often wait and pick their shots. Manny has never been known as a pick shot artist or a great counter puncher. But when he does pick his shots, you’ll notice that he doesn’t move his feet around has much as he does his head. Watch his fight against De la Hoya. Each time he landed a left hand, he often was moving his upper body around and his feet weren’t moving as much. He decided to pick his shots. But as soon as he landed, he boxed on his feet and was able to throw from all angles.
So basically, if one boxer moves on his feet more than another, they are not really the same. Although they may look similar, the strength, speed, and precision aren’t because they differ the more a boxer moves around the ring. Just remember. Not only one boxer is moving around the ring. The one who moves around more, often has the better angles. As far as speed and power go, the one who moves around more, usually has more speed. And with speed and the ability to shift weight, power can increase. To be honest with you, Manny is probably just as strong in the ring as Mosley is in the fact that his speed and movement create so much momentum that there’s great force behind his punches. Just remember how he killed Hatton. I bet that punch was just as strong and Mosley’s strongest punch.
Mr.Sam Singit,
So your question is this:
will Manny Pacquiao be able to absorb Miguel Cotto’s lethal left-hooks to the body and head? the answer is YES……..
But regarding Manny’s balls i don’t know? I think Cotto’s Ball exploding punch will hurt Manny and knock him down…
It’s funny to hear that Mosley is a bigger version of Manny. To also hear that the difference between them is that Manny is a southpaw and boxes more on his feet makes me laugh. The biggest difference between boxers is whether they box on their feet or if they don’t. That alone determines speed, strength, and precision. Each way has its advantages and disadvantages but makes boxers different from each other. Mosley decided to go toe to toe with Cotto, thus making Cotto look faster than him. I can guarantee that Manny will be moving a heck of alot more than Mosley did. By moving on his feet, Manny will have many more angles to
i just have this to say PAQUIAO WAS DROPED IN SPARRING SESSION!!! Freddy denies it and instead makes the amazing news that pacman dropped 2 times the middle-way sparring partner!!! what a joke… Freddy is getting so damn crazy with the media!
I would give Pacman the edge but, Cotto is a great opponent for Pacman. Ali and Sugar Ray have proven that great speed and great footwork is the key to success in boxing against bigger stronger opponent.
Remember, Ali and Foreman? Foreman, can take your head off with one good solid punch! But, Ali was too fast with great footwork that cannot be hit. Foreman, went down like a big tree…”timberrr.”
Pacman will not dance around Cotto but, Pacman is move around Cotto with super fast powerful combination. Cotto will be knocked down in 3-5 round of the fight. Pacman, will retire on top and super rich!!!
I say, F*&^ Manny…
Miguel Cotto is younger, bigger and stronger than Manny Paquiao. So, what will make Manny Pacquiao if he will win the fight? Will there be more excuses? Will he still be overrated as some of the wannabe bloggers have been proclaiming on their blogs? Or will they shot up and say, “More power to you MP?” Will they admit that MP is really an outstanding boxer and one of the best in his generation? I very much doubt that.
The thing is, the like of you (Sam Singh), Manuel Perez and some others; your minds are so fixated that a little filipino can’t be as good as any other boxer.
Before the fights all of you declare that Manny Pacquiao does not have any chance of winning bacause the other fighters either too big or too strong for Manny.
But after the fights when Manny P. destroys your guys you make excuses…
What a bunch of wannabe bloggers you are.
i agree that cotto is bigger and stronger and smart but the only problem is that he has a shaky chin, and unfortunately it was made worse by the cheater margarito. pacquiao will only win if he boxes in and out and catches cotto in the earlier to middle rounds but twelve rounds with a physical fighter like cotto will be hard for even pacquiao at his size
Ben said: i am tempted to actually put my money where my mouth is
i think cotto will win, and the bookies are all aboard the pacman hype train
perfect oppertunity to make some money
*************
Ben, it is a good bet for the amount of money you will win.. but the odds of winning is like 25 to 1. Are you willing to take that?
If Pac wins, will it change your overrated perception of Pac?
I certainly believe you won’t, because I’m sure you belong to a bunch of Pac’s doubters who will make another blatant excuse if Pac will win over Cotto. Check on Nov.14.
Hmmm… seems like some dont know how betting works, its not based on expert opinion, its based on how many people are betting on who and they adjust to that ratio so the house can always profit so I dont see it as an indicator.
I absolutely give Pacman what is his…P4P king, Hes a freak of nature, but I dont see this fight as a mismatch like too many people. I see a close fight with good exchanges. Its gona be a masterpiece.
Yes, It will be considered an upset if Cotto wins because Pacman looks unstopable, is the P4P king, and 2 to 1 favorite. I think theres a 50/50 chance for the upset, but to me one thing is sure..it wont go 12.
Who wins will be KO, and like I said theres gona be huge blows landing on both. Thats the intrigue here…can Cotto walk through Pacs punches, and everyone knows he will land…then…Can Pac take Cottos blows, and he will land.
Jag…..I’m Cool….It’s good to see things from both sides & that’s cool with me but go figure why has Las Vegas set a challenger as favored by 2 to 1????
There must be some truth to the facts mentioned….so this means that if the title holder Miguel wins, this would an up-set??? aloha……….
I’ve always said,PBF will be the one who expoes Manny.
if Manny beats Cotto, he will still be overrated, because Cotto is not the same , then go on to Mosley, and if he beats him. he’s still overrated, because Mosley is old. then if ever, with mayweather. if he beatsd mayweather. he will still be overrated because the judges chose the puncher vs. the boxer/runner. what ever manny does, he’s overrated. it doesn’t matter what he’s accomplished before De La Hoya or Hatton. there’s always excuse’s if he beats fighters that badly.
if you open your eye’s you see a fighter so special they only come along once every thirty years. stop hating.
Hawaiians are stupid.
So then Mr. Singh, MP by your opinion has no chance with Cotto. Cotto is too strong, too big, younger and in his prime. So then sir, what if MP does beat Cotto and does it in a very convincing fashion (as in a KO or TKO)? What then Mr. Singh? Would you write in your next article that you saw before the fight that Cotto was a “shot fighter,” was damaged goods, was never the same since Margarito? Or would you final give the Filipino his due? Give the Filipino his ATG status, because Mr. Singh – MP has accomplished what no other boxer has done in boxing history 7 weight division belts. But knowing you Mr. Singh, you’ll probably “hate” even more on the Filipino champion. Oh well, I guess you have no problem being known as a hater.
I’m glad there are so many Pac Man haters and you all feel that Cotto is too good and will win. When Pacquiap wins by KO you will not have anymore excuses based on all the biased articles you have written, and you will have no choice but to acknowledge that Pac Man is the BEST EVER!

a real boxing fan that knows just a little about the fact that styles make fights could see how even it is.
But nooooo, you people that only watch Pacman fights have to write all that crap about how Pacman is an invincible God and how nobody can defeat him because he’s the chosen one blah, blah.
You jokers are comedians to the true boxing fan community with all your silly blinded and unrealistic nuthugging funny like hell opinions.
alot of folks will be surprised when Cotto knocks out Pacquiao on Nov 14.. i have always said that Cotto is going to knock out manny and not only knock him out but give him an azz whipping in the process. Cotto is going to demolish manny. anyone who knows boxing knows that Cotto should win easily and Cotto will not only win easily but by KO within 7 rounds… remember JR said this. remember JR said this. remember JR said this.. Cotto by sensationsal KO over overrated Pac Boy!

Manh, THIS GUY IS AN IDIOT.
YOU ARE A BANDWAGON like everyone else who think Pacquiao lost two fights against Marquez. All you need to do was watched both of the fights and you shall see Pacquiao clearly won the second and very, very slim on the first.
STOP HOPING ON THE BANDWAGON AND WATCHED THE BOUTS BEFORE MAKING A CLAIM!!!!
IF YOU WATCHED SHANE MOSLEY’S FIGHTS, Mosley is very slow compared to PACQUIAO. Again, i cant stop to emphasize how much YOU SHOULD STOP HOPING ON THE BANDWAGON.
IF YOU WATCHED COTTO’S FIGHTS, Cotto is very slow, but powerful compared to PACQUIAO. The reason Pacquiao will win is because Pacquiao got power, speed, and combinations. How hard is it not to see that? I like Cotto, too, but i dont see Cotto winning the bout cause Pacquiao is doing 150 rounds before the Nov. fight, which is to amped up his body and head for the powerful hitter, cotto.
MANH, PEOPLE SHOULD STOP MAKING BOGUS CLAIMS WHEN THEY HAVENT SEEN ANY FIGHTS YET.
Your analysis is crap.
It has no tangible critic, it’s just opinion. Oscar lost to Manny simply because he was not prepared and Manny was. Oscar messed up his weight because he prepared for the fight using a scientific diet rather than through hard work. Thus he lost against a fighter who stepped into the ring totally prepared to fight. Pacquiao gets credit for beating a fighter held in high esteem. Nothing can change that.
Hatton also lost against Pacquiao for poor execution of the game plan. Pacquiao gets 100% credit for destroying the second toughest jr welterweight in boxing. Nothing can change that.
Making excuses for having a lousy boxing analysis just means you don’t accept being wrong. If Pacquiao and Cotto meet and prove to be a challenge for each other in the ring you might have a better understanding of the game. If Pacquiao beats Cotto because of his speed, you will just be making more excuses for having poor judgment.
Pacquiao is a great fighter with great accomplishments and is not overrated. Some people may hold him up in the bigger than life personality, but they are just being fans which is no different than being a Michael Jordan fan.
aloha:
Remember what Im saying today come fightnight, both guys will get powershots in, the one with better chin and power pushes the other back and wins the fight.
If its Pac he wins, if its Cotto he will win, speed is an element that may allow more punches to get in for Pac and might avoid some shots from Cotto, but many will land. From both guys.
lets be a little objective
pwillisgod is a joke!!
both awesome fighter with awesome styles….both is capable of KO shots and lucky shots.
….the only diff….Pacman’s exteremly FAST.
SPEED is an absolute advantage.
watch the post HBO interview, Shane Mosley adnits Ctto beat him!!!
he’s saying pac is good, just overrated from last couple of fights..i agree!
The difference in this fight is the foot speed of Manny,in the de la Hoya fight, they said Oscar was shot which was not,the real reason was he could’nt catch Manny with his punches, remember Nacho said he was too fast, the same thing happend with Hatton,he could’nt catch Manny and there were lots of garbage excuses,so if Cotto will catch Manny it will be adifferent story but i see the same results,Castillo in sparring said there is nobody in the welterweight division that can match Manny in speed and quickness even Floyd Jr.
jag.. Speed makes Pacquiao a better fighter than his previous opponents. What make you say power and chin will be decided for the fight? It’s his speed to land so many shots to his opponent that they can’t even see coming. His speed make a big difference from Cotto’s previous fights.
Johr… You just make excuses because Pacquiao beat bigger opponents. It’s was already proven by the boxing committee that he’s cleaned…
Wake up guys…
Be real don’t make any excuses. Let’s see on Nov. 14…
To all Pac-haters, just wait til the 14th of Nov. Cotto’s going down. He’s not Oscar and Hotton but I’m sure you all will have the same stupid excuse why he lost. Stop comparing the Pacquiao who fought Marquez 2 years ago, ‘coz if you watch the Pacman then you’ll see he’s a whole different animal now…Marquez won’t last 3 rounds with him when they fight for the third time. Of course there will be another stupid excuse for that too. Stupid excuses gicven by stupid people who hate Pacman. By the way, I’m not even a Pacman fan..,just sick and tired of people who won’t give respect where it’s due.
hmmm ithink this is santiago or perez hiding in a different name!!! most probably manuela perez.. the style of writing is very similar!!! hmm an indian guy hugging marquez nuts!!! you can’t fool me manuela perez!!!
**By Sam Sigh: So if Cotto does beat Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto seals his greatness by beating the pound-for-pound number one who is in his prime. And for me, Cotto has a great chance. Cotto is too big, too strong, and most importantly, very smart. ***********
I think you are cofused. You discredit Pacqiuao for beating De la Hoya, Hatton etc. then you think that Cotto will seal his greatness by beating a much smaller fighter?
How so? I think your statement should’ve been, “If Manny Paquiao beat Miguel Cotto, a much bigger and stronger fighter, it should prove again and seal Manny Pacquiao’s greatness and legacy in the boxing world.”
Cotto is a god!!
Speed Is Power…..esp in martial arts….what I’m saying is, what good is speed if you’re standing in front of a slugger with power….you gotta move out-of-the-way….You can run for a while but you can’t hide they say….well…Manny’s stamina is unprofound, uncanny, unbelievable, outrageous….his energy level is high from beginning to end….a runner will eventually slow down & get caught, not Manny….but we’ll see in the first half of the fight….Miguel needs to get an early jump because his stamina will decrease in latter rounds & Manny will move constantly & throw straights & jabs constantly looking for weaknesses & with perfect timing, unleash his power shots. It’s really hard to predict when Manny will do this esp when he has power in both hands…& Manny seems to get stronger every round & at the pace he fights it’s a hard act to follow & the thing is….PREDICTABILITY….Manny is unpredictable & therefore will win….aloha
Its real tough being a boxer. On they way up they treat you like the knight in shining armour. But reach the top of the mountain, and then loose one fight and these boxing writers talk about you like your a bum. This sort of disrespect is not the right thing to do.
Pacman has kept his speed while moving up in weight. But people are underestimating Pacman’s power. Even Cotto respects Pacman’s power and was quoted in saying Pacman’s knockout punch vs Hatton would’ve floored Tyson. Of course we all know Cotto was exaggerating but he let people know he respects Pacman’s power. As far as speed, Cotto faced opponents who throw fast 1-2 combinations. But he never faced a guy who throws fast 7-8 punch combinations at weird angles with power and can do it for 12 rounds. I think it was against Diaz or Morales- where Pacman threw a freakin 9 punch combo in about 2.5 seconds. I kept rewinding the video clip trying to count the damn punches. Imagine rather than trying to count the punches, you have to dodge them! Now with Pacman sparring with young hungry guys the same size or bigger than Cotto and knocking them down while being only 70% in shape. I love Cotto because he’s a real warrior. But don’t sleep on Pacman.
pac is over rated maybe cause he made his previous fights looked to easy. no it’s a not a boxers fault to win cause he’s opponents are “unprepared”. in a boxing match anything can happen inside the ring and before the ring
in the end..winning is everything..right now pac is on winning streak, unless he lose. overrated or not that crap aint matter
Reading your article gives me conflicting messages. First you praised him by saying “Pacquiao is a great fighter”, followed by negative words “but he is overrated”. You discredited his wins against Dela Hoya, Hatton and you believe that JM Marquez outboxed him. For you Cotto is too big, too strong, too smart & he able to beat much bigger, stronger guys “no way” Pacquiao can beat Cotto in your eyes. But again you said that if Cotto does beat Pacquiao, he seals his greatness by beating the p4p #1 who is in his prime. If Pacquiaos achievement has no mening to you, why on earth you just admitted that Cotto needs to win “to seal his greatness” by beating Pacquiao? Why is it important Cotto wins this fight? I don´t think because of the money, he´ll get $10 million win or loose. Is it really that hard for Cottos fans to swallow Pacquiaos recognition? He work hard for it, he never cheat, that´s why he is respected.
I still cant decide on a firm winner on this one, for a long time i thought cotto, but im going back and forth.
I predicted manny to ko hatton early but this one’s difficult.
Against Mosley its a different story.
james mc:
I agree with all your comments, i was merely retorting to the fact that someone said Cotto hadnt fought anyone with speed close to manny’s when he has.
Hawaiian man:
Manny is slightly faster than mosley and your right his footwork is much better, but you cant suggest mosley offers nothing but speed, thats ridiculous, Mosley hits a LOT harder than Pacquiao at 147, Roach himself even admits this.
Roach regards mosley as by far the hardest fight for pacquiao, harder than Mayweather and Cotto.
Cotto hasn’t been hurt at 147lbs with the exception of the Margacheato fight. Judah stunned Cotto, but at no point was Cotto hurt.
Don’t under rate Pacquiao…he’s a much much improved fighter now.
Pacman will KO Cotto in early round..no doubt about it.
Judah, a fast southpaw like Pacquiao, hurt Cotto 3-4 times in their fight, but unlike Pacquiao, Judah has no lasting stamina.
You say that Cotto’s shots had caught up with Margarito by the time he fought Mosley, maybe. But maybe Margarito’s shots caught up with Cotto also…remember he LOST that fight (and hall of fame trainer Teddy Atlas is adamant that when he saw Cotto/Mosley he was watching a mentally hurt fighter) regardless of plaster gloves, thats a whole different subject.
Pacquiao is a small guy beating bigger fighters…period, he deserves the upmost respect.
Steve Forbes hasnt climbed from Flyweight like Manny!
I agree however that Cotto is a smart fighter, but so were De la Hoya, Marquez, Barrera, Hatton (watch him against urango etc, smarter than ppl think), Morales, Diaz etc.
I love Cotto too, but Pacquiao can knock Cotto out…believe that!!!! Cotto can be hurt and he is a fairly open fighter, so…do u think he would have taken the shot that manny landed on Hatton??
But like Roach…i think Cotto is gonna foul early.
I suspect Pac is on steroids. Maybe nobody is going to catch him now, but later in his carrer as they did with Mosley.
after november 14, these boxing experts will call cotto damaged goods. cotto was there for the taking.
after pacman destroys li’l floyd, boxing experts will point to ring rust – not enough good fights for li’l floyd before taking on the overrated pacman.
Facts:
Cotto has been hurt before when dehydrated at 140 not at 147.
Pac has been hurt before but not recently.
Pac can hurt Cotto because he has welterweight power, but NO WAY middleweight power.
Cotto can hurt Pac because Pac has never felt weltrweight power.
Pac is the fastest opponent in Cottos career.
Cotto struggles against bigger, heavier opponents but can handle speedy lighter ones.
Pac has to push Cotto back to win because Cotto fights best coming forward.
Cotto has to push Pac back to win because Pac fights best coming forward.
Conclusion:
This fight will be decided on power and chin, not speed. They are both gonna land big shots. The guy that takes the others punches better will win because that will be the one coming forward.
Chances are 50/50 is that simple.
al francis-ano u say cotto has made a living out of fighting u say he faught judah, malignagie and mosley and in al 3 fights he strugled badly, against judah he was hurt badly a couple of times, against mosley i personaly scored the fight to mosley by 2 rounds, and agains malignagie excluden the knockdown i would have scored the fight a draw.
You can’t compare Shane Mosely to Manny Pacquiao because there are no other fighter like Manny…Shane has hand speed ONLY & that’s it. What good is hand speed with out good foot-work…Manny’s best defenses is Hit & Not Be Hit..this is accomplished with foot-work…watch his foot-work & head-movement to boot…Manny is a difficult target…MANNY PACQUIAO THE NEW WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD & STILL THE BEST POUND 4 POUND KING OF AAALLL TIME……….
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!ALOHA
It’s all about speed… Manny’s just to fast for Cotto. Plain and simple. So far Manny has been taking shots from Shawn Porter and has not been dropped. Don’t get me wrong I love Cotto and his style. Just that recent pics of Manny shows just how much he’s filled in. Dropping Porter 2 times who’s much bigger too just shows how bad it is coming for Cotto. He gonna get hurt.
SAM YOUR RIGHT ABOUT COTTO. HE WILL BEAT PACMAN.
But how can you knock Hatton and Collazo.
Hatton end the career of Tszyu and became a two divsion champion winning 45 out of 47 fights, and staying in a back and forth was with Mayweather, the number one fighter on earth for ten rounds. And Collazzo is no pushover eighter as he recently lost to a fight to Berto, when many feel he won.
sam, what makes you think pacquiao is overated? here’s a question then? do you think that any fighter could have dominated da lahoya at the time that pacquiao fought him? how come mayweather was not able to dominate hatton during their fight? remember mayweather had the advantage on that fight, he made hatton meet him at 147lbs. how come you are not asking if mayweather is overated or not, based on his dominance against a bloated lightweight, juan manuel marquez? when steve forbes fought de la hoya, why then wasn’t he able to dominate de la hoya like pacquiao did? makes me wonder what you really are trying to write about! answer all those questions and maybe your article will make sense!
Wow im surprise how many are so wrong. If you think pac will have any speed against cotto you wrong. Cotto is too smart, too good and much better boxer than pac. Pac is a great fighter but he have no chance against a real fighter a real boxer in cotto. Who do you guys think cotto is? Cotto may not be known as the best p4p who knows why cause to me that belong to mayweather but anyway cotto is one of the best fighter out there, better than pac by a ton, you will see.
Talk is cheap…pacman has always done his talking in the ring…cotto better have medical insurance….run mayweather run…
no he’s not!
He is faster than anyone Cotto has fought, but you cant say he’s WAY too fast compared to Cotto’s previous opponents as Cotto has made a living out of fighting fast fighters, this one will be the fastest, but not by a long way.
All the Pacman’s opponents since David Diaz said they think they could handle Pacman’s speed. They’re all proven wrong. Pacman way too fast compared all Cotto’s previous opponents.
I Agree with Romeo.
People just love making excuses. They don’t accept defeat. They can’t take that Pacman is way too good to be true. Go Pacman!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cotto wins by tko. I want to see pacman dethroned so we dont have to see anymore of these stupid catchweight fights
Brave :
silly boy!
Maligaggi, Judah, Mosley…
Yes you can argue Pacquiao is faster and you’d be right, but to say Cotto’s opponents are nowhere near as fast as manny is wildly out of context, Cotto has fought lots of speed style boxers.
cotto was hurt in the corley fight mate.
so many different ways 2 look at it,cus cotto wont like pacmans speed, and if cotto wud of fort dela hoya he wud of been out boxed.and we no wont pacman dun 2 dela hoya.i thort dela hoya and hatton would b 2 big for pac,but they cud,nt cope with is speed.cotto is a natural 147lb and beat sum big guys.but pac is a freak of nature in boxing and he as grown into the weight.wen the fight was made i 2 thort cotto, but the more i think wot pacman dun and got, gone thru weghts winning titles, speed southpaw, proved it at 140,147 the more i fancy him 2 b victorious.
cotto by KO round 1. or Pac by DQ round 1
^^^^ haha, agreed !
If you really think your Boy Cotto will win the fight, why not bet your house, like hatton fans did!! There homeless right now!
I Agree with Romeo.
either way, I am really looking forward to this fight. Hopefully it lives up to the hype. It would be incredible for Pac to win, but he is obviously the underdog in this matchup
I am an engineer and I know perspectives. Yours is skewed man and weighted in favor of Cotto right from the start! I reviewed the HBO series going to de la Hoya – Pacquiao fight and there was no dehydrated de la Hoya there. He was 145 long before the fight so there was no dehydration at fight night. As de la Hoya said, Pacquiao was simply too fast for him. He cannot hit what he cannot catch. That was the story of that fight. De la Hoya was simply flustered and frustrated that Manny was all over the place.
This article ignores and omits the fact that Manny Pacquia’s speed is nowhere near any of Cotto’s previous oppponents. To give you the closest Analogy, Cotto’s speed is driving a bicycle. Before he lands his punch, Manny already throws in 7 combinations from every unseen, undetectable angle. Compare a bicycle to that of a Ferrari. Thats how this fight is so different. Cotto can throw those punches all her wants. At the end of the night, he would have thrown 50 on each round, land 15, while Pacquiao throws 150 and land 50. The effect? Brutal KNOCKOUT. Manny is the fast and the furious. Too fast too powerful for a slow Cotto. If Cotto decides to trade, BOOM, the end!
i also think cotto has a gr8 chance of winning, but how can u say he wasnt hurt in any of his fights against top welter,he was badly wobbled a coupel of times against judah, and no to mention ricardo torres at lightwelter, cotto also strugled against a speed fighter in malignagie,so pac speed might troubel cotto.
We will all see at the fight, but I suspect many people will be making excuses for why their guy lost either way.
i am tempted to actually put my money where my mouth is
i think cotto will win, and the bookies are all aboard the pacman hype train
perfect oppertunity to make some money
Pacman is the man.
