Abraham predicting win for Valuev over Haye – News

valuev-abe3(Picture: SE / Photo Wende) By Eric Thomas: Super Six tourney contestant Arthur Abraham believes that WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev will beat British challenger David Haye next month on November 7th in their title match in Nuremburg, Germany. Abraham, who recently stopped Jermain Taylor in the 12th round in his first bout in the Super Six tournament on October 17th, had this to say about the Haye vs. Valuev bout:

“I think Nikolai is going to win. For Haye it will be difficult to come out of cruiserweight and fight a man that is as tall and heavy as Valuev. I think Haye will tire towards the end because he has a lot of size to push away. Haye is a good boxer, no doubt about that, but I believe that Niko will take care of business. He will control the fight with his long left jab.”

Haye, 29, will be facing his first real test as a heavyweight in facing the seven foot Valuev. In Haye’s two prior fights in the heavyweight division, he’s been matched softly against Tomasz Bonin and Monte Barrett. Haye’s handlers obviously wanted to ensure that he wasn’t put in against any one too good. However, by matching him against only weaker fighters in the heavyweight division and not putting him in with better opponents, Haye finds himself taking a huge step up in competition in facing the highly skilled Valuev. Haye says that he’s worked a lot in training camp to learn how to minimize Valuev’s height, reach and weight advantages but it will be interesting to see if the training will pay off.

Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis thinks Haye can beat Valuev as long as he uses his boxing skills and doesn’t let Valuev maul him. However, Lewis is less certain about Haye’s chances in doming the heavyweight division, saying to the BBC “Haye is fighting an uphill battle, because there are about four big guys he needs to get rid of first.”

Haye had his chance to fight both Klitschko brothers but backed out of fights with each of them. Haye would be at a huge disadvantage against both Klitschko brothers because of their size and power. Haye has said in the past that he wants to go after Wladimir Klitschko first. That’s a winnable fight if Haye can get in punching range and land one of his big shots. But against Vitali Klitschko, it probably doesn’t matter what Haye lands, his chances of knocking Vitali out are slim. Most likely, Haye would be knocked out in a fight with Vitali, although he would have a slight punchers’ chance to win.

Abraham thinks that Valuev will be able to control the fight with Haye by pounding Haye with his jab from the outside. Valuev will obviously have to throw a lot of jabs because Haye will be looking to make fast attacks so that he can land his big bombs and get away before Valuev has a chance to connect with anything. Many boxing experts feel that this will be a game of cat and mouse. Haye has the power to end the fight with one shot, but some experts feel that Haye will be afraid to take a chance and get hit with something big from Valuev. The big Russian isn’t a big puncher, but he hits hard enough to hurt Haye, who has a history of being knocked down in fights at the cruiserweight level.

Watch Chagaev and a 48 year old Holyfield whup Valuev and they are slightly shorter, around the same weight as Haye but without his power.Valuev does not have the speed or stamina to jab Haye into submission and he lacks the power to club him down.Arthur despite being a gentleman is bound to back Nikolay as their good mates!

  • aj says:

    1. if a 48 y/o hollyfield can nearly beat valuev (robbed by judges, sick decision) then haye can beat him. by ko rd 5/6
    2. froch didnt fight great but dirrell didnt do enough to win a title. if dirrell fought the whole fight like the last 3 rds then he prob wouldve won but he was far too negative for first 6 or 7 rds.

  • lkl says:

lol people who say dirrell got robbed no nothing about boxing

  • pimp p says:

roots get a grip froch won dirrel ran like a scared little boy

  • ROOTS says:

M YOU BEING BRITISH KNOWS ALL ABOUT GETTING ROBBED BY THE JUDGES WE ALL SAW THAT 2 WEEKS AGO.THE BRITISH ARE NO BETTER THAN THE GERMANS WHEN IT COMES TO HOME-TOWN DECISIONS

  • adam steed says:

Anyway Valuev is just a huge man but without boxing skills, if Haye will use his mind he will win, well I hope so

  • Doctor says:

    Gav
    Have to agree wih you.

  • gav says:

they should have to fight in a cave on an island somewhere in the aegean, surrounded by sheep.

  • heavy G says:

Will somebody explain to me again how THIS is a heavyweight chamionship fight?

  • gav says:

    sorry, cruiserweight.

  • gav says:

who cares who wins this fight? it’s a giant of dubious skill in the ring against a bulked-up light heavyweight who’s looking for the easiest way of getting a belt save buying one at the store. ruslan chagaev beat the lumbering valuev, and chagaev ain’t exactly tyson.
you guys ever hear of a straw man?

  • UKnowitmakesense says:

haye will get stopped no doubt about it, maybe a jab will do it. i thnk dave is quality but valuev will catch him and he will go down. put your money on valuev by stoppage inside 5 and you wont be disapointed

  • Mr Rhythm says:

uhhh, is this dude sitting on the other dude’s lap?

  • psilas says:

Haye WILL win, by KO about round 5-7.

  • c says:

the great lennox lewis is backing haye and if hes backing haye then we all should that man knows what hes talking about

  • Ukansodoff says:

Abrham would say what he said because of the German connection, even though neither of them are German themselves.

Just like some of the Brit boxers are backing Haye. They aint going into much detail to back themselves up its just what happens.

  • M says:

I doubt Haye’s going to Germany under the illusion that he’ll win a decision unless its beyond doubt i.e. knockdowns and 2 point rounds. You’d have to be a fool to expect any different.

  • gav says:

he’ll be dancing. and the only one who was rocked in that froch-dirrell fight was the supposed tough-guy froch.

  • Dennis Broadhurst says:

    Highly skilled Valuev? hahahaha

  • M says:

But Haye won’t be dancing about and holding all night and can actually punch his way out of a paper bag unlike Dirrell.

  • gav says:

funny there should be talk of bias after that dubious decison in nottingham.

  • hhh says:

if it goes to decision then i dont give haye much chance with them biased german judges however i think haye will KO valuev before it reaches that
